Worst chicken teriyaki I've had in my life save your money and time huge disappointment

I visited this place recently for dine-in and ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box. The chicken was SO rubbery that it ruined the entire experience. I couldn't even eat more than one piece of it. I can't believe it was actually so rubbery and chewy- definitely not edible. The salad was small and watered down. I don't recommend this place at all. read more

This is a place to go if you don't want to wait in line. We've dine in a handful of times at this location and the food never disappointed us. My daughters do not typically eat sushi, but they do at this location. The staffs are friendly and the facility is pretty clean and semi-upscale for its location. We requested to dine at the tatami room, and we had a great time. I would recommend this if you want some casual sushi/japanese dining. This is probably my 5/6th time eating here. I came for lunch after we saw that they had a "all you can eat buffet" for $16.99. My friend and I were craving rolls, so we thought it was a great deal! However, after looking at the buffet, we read that you'd be charged if you left food. We realized our appetites were bigger than how much we could really eat, and decided to get the lunch special. We got the 3 roll special for $10.95 and a lunch shrimp udon, to split. We got the spicy tuna, spicy salmon and spicy yellowtail rolls. But for some reason, they all look the same once we got our food. We weren't able to tell the difference between the rolls, but the taste was your average rolls. The shrimp udon was just normal, nothing special. Also, our waitress was friendly, but kept forgetting our requests. We asked for lemon... But she forgot, so we had to remind her. Then my friend ordered a beer, but didn't get it until 20 min later, and we had to remind her again! We asked for more ginger, and of course she forgot, so I had to remind her .... I don't understand because we were the only people there at the time... I think the food is pretty good if you are in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come eat here. read more

Hmm. It's fast and conveniently located but nothing to really write home about. We've had food here a handful of times and it's just consistently underwhelming. My udon this time was so tasteless, I had to re-season and simmer the broth at home to get anything in the way of flavors; it was seriously like someone used a carton of Swanson with low sodium. When we ordered, we waited a while before the soup and salads arrived. Soup was okay. Ginger dressing was delicious. Then came the entrées: teriyaki chicken and teriyaki filet mignon. The dinners had a funny flavor. Something tasted "off." Perhaps it was the sizzling skillet that they were served in (like fajitas)? The fried rice was good. The yum yum sauce was delicious. The waitress was friendly enough, but as I said, we waited a while before the soup and salads arrived, our waters weren't filled, and we had to wait for the check and then wait for it to be returned to us to sign. Don't get me wrong, the fish is fresh and good! But it's nowhere near amazing. And several times I've asked for "no mayo" on rolls, and more often than not it's still slathered with mayo. As I was seated, I immediately noticed that this place had a great ambiance and was looking very clean after using the restroom. I was immediately attended by Jimmy and browsed at the entire menu. He recommended the Nebiyaki Udon Soup with chicken. It came with a Side salad and a Tempura Shrimp. The soup was served in a brown clay hot pot with Shitake mushrooms, boiled egg, fish cake, sliced onions, spinach, sliced cabbage & chicken breast with the udon noodles which made my taste buds savor the hot soup and then all its ingredients. I find the other review confusing, because I've never had anything but great food at Sake House. That said, I haven't had anything but their sushi, but I still think its somewhere in the pretty-darn-good to great range. Miso soup and a salad with ginger dressing come with every sushi meal (I think, at least. We've been there 1/2 a dozen times and have always been served soup and salad with our meal of 3-4 sushi items and never been charged or ordered it, but I don't think it says that on the menu anywhere). Both of these are also good, they have an excellent ginger dressing for a place that's this far out in N. Raleigh. They have a good selection of the old favorites (California & Philly rolls, etc) as well as a great assortment of their own creations. I'm in love with their Sweetheart Roll (tuna outside, scallions and something else I cant remember inside). My boyfriend is in love with their Green Dragon Roll too (eel and avocado). I don't know if that one's available elsewhere, but I haven't seen it. They have a selection of specials that seems to rotate every few months, which are also very good and always different. Their green tea cheesecake is spectacular. It doesn't sound that good, but it really is. Just a hint of green tea, a fantastic crust topped off with a little whipped cream and a vanilla cookie. YUM! The service is ok, not fantastic, but I've never had a real reason to complain. The manager (owner?) is always around and very friendly. Overall, I'd say its probably on par with most other sushi places in the area. If you get tired of Waraji and Sushi Thai and want something different you should definitely check it. out. read more

I live in New York, but have visited North Carolina a few times and this restaurant is absolutely great. The decor, the staff and the sushi. ASSMAZING!@?!! Their deals are great. They do a buy one roll get the other half on Sunday through Thursday. My favorite roll that I get all the time is the SAKE HOUSE Roll, named after the restaurant. It is soo good, shrimp tempura with avocado on top with lobster, it is orgasmic! All the special house rolls are delicious, but I always always get that roll. Forget the mediocre, blah sushi that seems to be served everywhere, Sake House brings it with freshness and creativity and tops it all with excellent customer service. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, and the prices are good (sushi rolls are BOGO). We ordered sushi, pot stickers, and chicken katsu. Here's an update to my previous glowing review: We've been back 3 other times. The food the very first time was by far the best, these last times it has been more mainstream, but still acceptable. Well the other night, biting down into one of my fried appetizer selections, I got a hard hit, on what I thought was crab shell. You know how you don't see something that's right under your nose? That is the Sake House for me. It's stuck in the middle of the Food LIon parking lot outside the Bedford 'hood. I drive right by on my way to the Ace and Dollar General. Yet in 7 years I never ate there. Until Christmas Eve, when we were hungry and everything else was closed. The place was packed. There was a table with what looked to be 20 folks. Knew going in it would be slow to sit and slow to serve. Well I was wrong on both counts. Now the only thing I eat raw is Romaine lettuce so I can't vouch for the sushi other than they had 4 guys making it and it looked like every table but ours was ordering it so it must be good, if that's your thing. I can vouch for the cooked selections though. The Hibachi chicken is one of the best I've had. My son said the same about his shrimp dish. And the soup was very tasty. The rice was exactly how I like, soft but not wet, if you know what I mean, and seasoned just right. This place has great potential. It's very clean inside. They tend to play Jack Johnson both times I have been. I have been twice at lunch, using their online system both times in hopes my food was ready for pick up and I wouldn't have to be away from the office long. Both times I have had to wait probably as long as if I would just walk in and place a to go order. The habachi is okay, the first time it was nice and grilled, the second time it was fried and I was disappointed. The sushi is priced well and I heard that they offer boho offers. Sake House has improved and continues to do so every time I dine there. They upgrade the decor from time to time and improve upon their menu as well. The key thing to remember here is that it's a Japanese joint in the middle of the suburbs. The dishes won't be to risque nor will the selection be that wide. That being said, the presentation is excellent, and sake is strong, and the severs are friendly. Additionally, this Falls River shopping complex is pretty the mold of many others in the North Raleigh area. There are small, locally-owned eateries and bars that have managed to stay open. The more we support locales like Sake House and the others in the area, the more local and organic the Raleigh scene becomes. Oh, and make sure to go on Thursday. You get two for one rolls, but make sure to order some sake or something so as to increase the revenue/tip for the servers. read more

The fish is always fresh, the presentation beautiful and the service always top notch. I always order the sashimi and the Rainbow Roll, the Dragon Roll and the Diablo Roll. Believe me when I tell you that you can't go wrong with ANYthing you order here. (Did I mention you can get real crab here? Try finding that elsewhere in the Raleigh area. I would've given another star but I hated their music and I thought there would've been more of a sake selection. I did come very close to closing so maybe that played a part with the music selection. I went here on a Wednesday night, and had an ok time. Greeting at the door left a little to be desired (as in I was ignored for a couple of minutes, despite the fact that I was standing directly in front of the lady at the register). There were no chopsticks on the table, and they only had one type of soy sauce on the table. I am not sure if it was the regular or low sodium. Salads were served with forks for eating. Sushi came with chopsticks. I started with a small house salad, and it was indeed VERY small. I am used to sushi restaurants serving small salads as part of a meal, but this one was tiny. Half a slice of tomato, few pieces of lettuce, half a slice of cucumber, topped off with the house ginger dressing. Served in a small square plate that reminded me of something you would put under a tea cup. The dressing was different than what I have had in the past, and had a slightly orange flavor to it. The menu is extensive and they have a lot of very original rolls to choose from. Almost every roll had a picture, which I found to be incredibly helpful when ordering. I tried the NC State Roll and the White House Roll (to go). The rolls had good presentation and pretty good flavor. But each piece was slightly stuck together and difficult to pick up. The fish was warm, not cool, but I didn't detect any odor. The rolls were buy one, get one free, so that was a nice plus. However, for $14/$15 per roll they were a little small. I will probably not go again, unless it is for dessert. I saw a fried ice cream go by that looked amazing. I have closer sushi restaurants that I prefer where the fish is just a little more fresh tasting and the service is a little more attentive. read more
