This wasn't the worst experience but it wasn't my favorite. The service was okay, he seemed disinterested in taking care of us but still did the job. The place was clean and so were the menus. Unfortunately there weren't that many diverse options for sushi, my partner isn't a big fan of tuna and likes salmon but there weren't many salmon rolls. Mostly tuna and shrimp tempura rolls. We tried 3 rolls for 31, the 9 nigiri sampler, shrimp tempura and the salmon teriyaki bento. This wasn't our favorite sushi as all of the fish tasted very fishy and maybe not as fresh. The salmon in the bento was good though. We did not like the Subaru roll at all, extremely fishy and the daikon enhanced that flavor. We even tried squeezing lemon on our fish but it didn't help too much. The screaming o and piano were okay. The rolls also weren't rolled the best, especially the California. Completely fell apart when you picked it up. This wasn't a horrible experience and we ate everything but the Subaru but I probably wouldn't come back. read more

I stopped by for lunch today and they have some AMAZING deals for their lunch specials! I got the Wolves Bento which comes with a good selection of sushi + tempura (including shrimp!) + seaweed salad + miso soup. All for $17! The sushi is quite decent quality, especially for the price. The tempura was delicious too and held up even after a 45 min drive. Food was ready within 15 min and staff were friendly. I'm surprised to see it was pretty quiet on a Friday at 1pm. Highly recommend! Tip: If you order online, there is $2.50 convenience fee but if you call and pay in person, there won't be a fee! You can put that extra money towards a tip instead :) read more

I hadn't been to Hayashi in years! It was always so fresh and delicious, I can't think of why we stopped. Perhaps the pandemic, and then lured into our usual spots. Well welcome back into my life Hayashi! Visiting at lunch, my husband and I took advantage of the 3 for 31 roll deal. We got a Rainbow roll, the Subaru roll and Crazy David. I hesitated in ordering the Subaru roll as it was described being twice rolled in radish, which sounds good but I still wasn't certain I'd like it. It turned out to be my favorite of the three! Good amount of salmon and refreshing. We also ordered garlic edamame which was very flavorful. We sat up at the sushi bar which was comfortable and fun. Hayashi isn't fancy, but it feels special. They do have a spot to sit kind of ground level, and many tables have a little quarter stone wall to give a little privacy. I saw a bad review of the service. I'm not sure what happened there but our service was great and I recall for years before it was consistently good. Excellent spot for sushi. Give it a try! read more

Dined here recently on a Saturday night. They seem to do a lot of take out/ to go orders. The rolls are huge and priced great! The place is small and a large group would definitely need a reservation. We had the avocado salad to start. It was topped with seaweed salad and fresh sliced avocado. It was delicious and very fresh. We ordered 6 rolls total. More than we could eat. The service was excellent. Our waitress described everything and brought the food out as soon as it was rolled. I followed the stars and this place loved up to its hype. First, let me say the place is super clean which is important to me. Second, I had a signature roll of the menu which was delicious. Third, the service was awesome and fast. I couldn't have asked for a more attentive and pleasant server. I also ordered the yakisoba with chicken which was good, but couldn't finish. Interior seems a little tired and a/c needs work - it was uncomfortably warm on this late-August night. They do a robust to-go business here, so the kitchen is hopping while alternating between in-house and takeout prep. Service is friendly and quick. Not more than 10 minutes for food to arrive. Ordered edamame and gyoza as appetizers. Both were on point - edamame warm and nicely salted with big-crystal salt. Gyoza perfect, savory pork steamed in a thin dumpling wrapper. One of my favorites, with that garlicky dipping sauce. Tried the Wakefield Roll and the Rock n' Roll. The Wakefield Roll is shrimp tempura, lobster salad, cucumber with masago & wasabi sauce. The Rock n' Roll is eel, cream cheese, crunch roll topped crab meat w/eel sauce. Even though the ingredients are similar, the tastes are very different. Proportions are right, not too much sauce or spice. Everything is well balanced. Each slice of sushi is bite-sized. Time to add Hayashi back into the regular rotation. Will need to try this at home sometime. (3 roll combo for $23.95:) -S16 Hayashi Crunch Roll (Hot or Mild. Spicy mixed fish roll topped with salmon, avocado, crunch & spicy sauce) Nice salmon and avocado flavor combination. -S13 Crazy David roll (Hot or Mild. I went in with my family and friends for the first time and I absolutely enjoyed it! We ordered the large boat which was for 4-5 people. We had a bigger party but we also ordered appetizers so it worked out perfectly. First of all, sashimi and nigiri we're both really good! My brother ordered don katsu and the portion was very large, he couldn't finish it by himself. Miso soup in my opinion was too salty? It was still good. If I had written this review three months ago, I would've given them five stars. I order the yakisoba noodle bowl as takeout at least once a month. It has always been a very flavorful dish and my absolute fav. Unfortunately, this time the chef must've forgotten to actually season the vegetables and chicken. The only thing that remotely had flavor was the noodles. Everything just tasted like the oil they used to stir fry. I actually had to use soy sauce and Sriracha just to get it down. They entrée had broccoli this time which I realized they had omitted in the past even though it is listed as an ingredient for this dish. It did not seem fresh, so maybe thats why they left it off in the past. I also had an order of hibachi chicken for my husband which was decent. I decided to call after the dinner rush and let them know that they botched up one of their dishes. I didn't want other people to end up with the same experience. I explained that it was takeout and I wasn't able to bring it back, but they didn't seem concerned either way. As much as you pay to eat out or take out these days, do you think that restaurants would be more accommodating and try to make things right somehow. We got the Crazy David, Hayashi Crunch, and Spider rolls, and Sunomono salad. The rolls were delicious. They didn't put too much rice, and the rice wasn't soggy. The Sunomono salad was good, but I didn't feel like the portion was worth the cost. Deducting one star due to reasons unrelated to the food. Their website https://hayashijapanesecuisine.com/our-menu/ lists a "Roll Combo" where you get 2 rolls from select choices for $10.75. When I called and asked for this, they said they didn't have that, but they have 3 and 5 roll combos, which I didn't see on their website. So I got the 3 roll combo for twenty something dollars, which I thought was a pretty decent deal in lieu of BOGO. They need to update their website to reflect these. Also, when I walked in to pick up my food, several employees saw me standing at the To Go table and walked right past me without saying anything. I had to catch someone and ask them where to pay for my food. Despite these things, I would get pickup from here again due to the good food. I want to try the ramen next time! read more

The hibachi is different than some may expect, my rice was not packable which made it difficult to use my chop sticks (I like to use them, if you don't, a fork will do just fine). We have tried every sushi restaurant in the Raleigh/Durham area over the last 30 years. Hayashi is by far the best for quality, portions and price. Kai and all others are over priced and not as good of quality (chewy fish). We have only ordered sushi, so we cannot speak for the dinners. When my family visits from Hawaii, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Austin, Asheville, Chicago and Minneapolis over the last decade They are always impressed by Hayashi. If you are lucky enough to be at the sushi bar when Kim is there it is always most memorable. read more
