Jennifer took care of us at Sake House. There aren't a lot of sushi-type places around Watertown that I know of, so it was time to give this a go! Jennifer made some recommendations based on our tastes - even on the beer side, which I was a bit hesitant to try, given my unfamiliarity. Ended up trying both Japanese beers that were offered and they were both excellent and paired well with my meal. Sushi and Hibachi dinners were fresh and filling. Loved the different sauces that were added to the dishes, and others were brought as well for appetizers that were ordered. Splurged on food here, I must say. We were really hungry, and I was eager to try a variety of what Sake House had to offer, so we ordered more than we normally would for a standard outing. It was cool that they even have Boba on their menu! And the taste was fantastic! We ate all our food and had no trouble with conversations, given the quiet environment. Great service! We went on a Sunday night and it was not busy. We instantly got sat to our table. The lady who sat us was friendly. The place was quite small but it had great interior design. Although, we did not sit at the bar, they have one. I bet it will be great to have fresh hibachi from the guy behind the counter. To start, we had ordered gyoza and the hand rolled, spicy crabmeat roll. The gyoza was fabulous! It came with a sweet type of soy sauce. The crabmeat roll was delicious also. We had to ordered another serving (haha!). For our meals, I had ordered the udon soup combination (beef, chicken, and shrimp). It was served with a fried egg on top. The soup was bland so I had to adjust it with salt. The meal overall was very tasty. My dad had ordered the steak bento box. He said it was superb. He also got the side of clear miso soup with it. Too many negatives to outweigh the positive! This past weekend I visited Sake House in Watertown Wisconsin. My sister decided to take me here and it was about 45 minutes away from her place in Whitewater. Should she have used the gas? No. Cause this joint was not kickin yo! Immediately when we come in, we get mistaken for the takeout drivers or people that have pickup orders. In that mistake, we have to stand for five minutes. Which is hard enough for me as it is but looking at all that food being brought out made it worse! We finally get seated, and I'm met with a seat that poked and hurt me. No matter where I moved on the ripped seat, It felt like I was sitting on straight spring. I'm surprised I didn't BOUNCE out of that place right then and there. But, I had to trust my sister. It didn't take that long for them to take our order, but the wait. Oh my goodness the WAIT. We probably waited damn near an hour to get our food. You might think "well man it could've been busy!". It wasn't. There were two other families in there. When I was done plucking the grey hair I grew from the wait, that's when we got our food. I got the steak hibachi. Which ran me up $20. And the shrimp tempura, which ran me up $6. I've had great steak hibachi, this was far from that. The steak was under-seasoned and way overcooked, overall just underwhelming! Me and my sister both agreed that the fried rice was some of the most bland we've had. Even the vegetables were underseasoned. You may listen to this and think this is a 1 star. But oh my lord was the shrimp tempura GREAT. It was the best i have ever had. At the top I said positive, not positives. That was because the ONE good thing about this place was the Shrimp Tempura. Would I come back here again, yes. Because I'm a man of second chances. I think this place has 4 star potential. But, as of right now, it's a 2 star restaurant for me. I guess every time I come to the mid-west I find myself doing real well if I'm just going for meat & potatoes, but as far as getting some type of Asian food out here, not so lucky my friends..........honestly, if you haven't been exposed to real authentic Japanese food, then you really don't know what you're missing! Lol! How did I end up at - Sake House? Long story short, it was the night before my final exam, and after class I went out with one of my coworkers to get a quick bite. Sake House was the place of choice (suggested by my coworker) as we had limited time, as we had to get back to our hotel and hit the books before our finals. Located at a small strip mall not too far from our hotel, I found Sake House to be a very convenient place to go to, for a quick bite. As we walked into the joint we were greeted, and directed over to a booth. After looking over the menu, I decided to get a Hibachi Dinner Combo which consisted of Chicken & Shrimp stir-fry. With my combo meal, I got a bowl of fried rice, some hot stir-fry vegetables, garden salad, & miso soup. What can I say about my meal? I guess I was expecting something else (as far as taste goes)............the Hibachi Dinner Combo was very different than what I'm use to getting back home (I'm from Hawaii). Best way to describe my dinner......it's like someone cooked the chicken & shrimp, then poured a "La-Choy" type of sauce all over the chicken, shrimp, & hot vegetables. Not to say it's a bad thing, as I know some folks would be into that, but as for this Hawaii boy........it would be a "HELL NO" for me! Also, the Miso Soup I got with my meal came out cold, and to make matters worst, it was a very cold day here in Watertown, Wi. as it had snowed a few days before, so having some hot soup on a cold day with my meal would have really hit the spot for me. I guess in Watertown, Wi. there aren't too many restaurants that serve Asian fare, so the few restaurants out here that do serve some kinda Asian fare, get pretty good reviews. But seriously..........when you've experience Asian fare in states where there is a heavy Asian population (like California or Hawaii), you'll clearly see the difference in the food quality. read more

We drove in from Milwaukee to check out sushi in WATERTOWN because our friend went there once and thought it was the BEST SUSHI he had ever eaten. Well, with that glowing review, it was worth the 45-minute commute to find out! When we pulled up, it was a restaurant within a strip mall (essentially) and we were skeptical. Even more so when we sat in the booth and the seats were wiggling with our every movement. I opened the menu to see a plethora of options... even better? The PRICES! Very affordable dinner prices (and lunch too). My eye was immediately drawn to the "Lady Gaga Roll" and of course, I ordered it. It had a wasabi mayo sauce which had me a little skeptical, and though it had a kick of being spicy, it wasn't overwhelming. It ended up being the table's favorite roll! We also got a boat of other sushi options, not intentionally, but the prices were so good we ordered a lot. It only made sense to bring it all out on a boat, haha. They also offer beer and wine. To finish off the experience, I had some deep-fried ice cream, which was spot on. First time trying Sake House today. My mom and I drove in from the Madison area to shop at JC outlet mall. I had Yelped sushi restaurants in the area and Sake House had the best reviews. Well, thank you Yelpers, you definitely got this one right. We could not believe the number of special rolls there were to choose from. They had all your typical ones, but SO MANY creative and delicious sounding rolls. It was really hard to pick! We each got 3 rolls, because we couldn't decide (yay leftovers)! Service was a little slow, but the restaurant was fairly busy, and we definitely weren't in a hurry. The servers were all super friendly. The sushi was amazing!!! The fish was so fresh, and the the flavors were just perfect. My fave was the 007 roll, as well as the Tiger roll that my mom ordered. Came to Sake House on a Sunday night around 6, with a large party. There was definitely enough staff to serve all of us in a timely (and friendly!) manner. I ordered the 'Hot Girl' specialty roll, as well as the vegetable udon. I thought it'd end up being wayyyyy too much food, but i ended up eating it all, right then and there. I was so perfectly contently full at the end of my meal. That said, the udon was acceptable, but really could have been SO much better (i.e. the broth's flavor needs adjusting). Tried for the first time the other day and holy man was it a good choice. I Got the Teriyaki Steak Bento lunch. It came with enough food to make me stuffed, a very good value considering the price was relatively cheaper then I thought it was going to be. Finally! Watertown has a Japanese place! Having had to put up with mediocre Chinese for years, we now have another Asian option in our little burgh. I do not consider myself an expert on Japanese cuisine, but I have had the chance to eat at a dozen or so places around the country during my travels. This restaurant is above average in my opinion and deserves the support of the community. It was also the first exposure to my wife and son to Japanese and they also were impressed. We kept it basic, with a couple of California rolls, chicken fried rice, spring rolls, and a shrimp tempura bento box for me. The family enjoyed the California roll. Like all newbies, they were tentative at first, but I assured them you can't go wrong with California. The bento box was as you expect - more food than one person can eat. It's not the best anywhere, but it's the best Asian in Watertown. And it doesn't cost any more than the places two doors in either direction. read more

I'd like to start out by saying, this place IS in Watertown. Which is not a small town, by any means, but I was impressed the they had a such restaurant. I've also had sushi other places, in larger cities, so maybe this isn't fair, but I found their sushi mostly just ok, if not "meh". The service was great and our waitress was attentive. The prices seemed reasonable. I got a veggie roll and a peanut avocado roll (which, as it turned out, was just roughly chopped peanuts with avocado, rolled up), as well as a miso soup, which was pretty decent, and a salad, which was, well, what you would expect of most sushi restaurants (watery iceberg lettuce, a few shreds of carrots, one slice of cucumber, and some weird creamy dressing. My sister got the bento box. They were very accommodating with her, as she's vegan, and made substitutions without question. Let's be clear. The waitress asked her if MSG was okay in her food. So yeah, they use MSG. That would be good to know. That being said, I realize it's an asian restaurant, but I have yet to see one outright using MSG. The food was so-so, the prices were decent. A total surprise in Watertown, this place is good! I ordered a shrimp tempura roll and an avocado peanut roll, and both were fresh-tasting and nicely portioned. My boyfriend ordered the beef fried rice, which he said was just ok. They also have 4-5 Japanese beers on the menu, which was a cool addition to our meal. Reasonably priced too - 2 beers, 2 rolls, fried rice, and a dessert for $30. Food ranks more like a 3 star place, but I give it 4 stars because of its location - it is virtually the only place to get decent Japanese food in the Watertown/Lake Mills/Jefferson area, which makes this an easy pick to fulfill your sushi craving. read more

Excellent, the quality of the sushi is well above average. This is not a teppanyaki style restaurant, you are seated at your own table and they do not have a griddle in them. You order from a menu and the food is brought out to you. The star of this place is the sushi, they do have a Japanese style sushi bar where one may sit and observe the sushi prepared in front for all to see. My son had pooped and it smelled terrible, like, it smelled like he had just gotten done eating Indian food. But he cant he's only 8 months. One of our favorite places to eat in Watertown. The staff is really great. They always greet us with a smile and make us feel very welcome. This is a very kid friendly restaurant. They have the best crab Rangoon I've found in town and we really enjoy the sushi rolls and bento boxes. My fiancé and I both agreed that this was a good place for "beginners" / those looking to try sushi for the first time. The place is cute and clean - always reassuring when you're going to be eating raw food. The menu itself is incredibly organized. All of the rolls are categorized by "cooked," "raw," and even a "vegetarian" section. I'm no sushi expert myself, so I definitely welcomed this touch. I guess it's somewhat necessary around here, as sushi isn't exactly your typical weeknight meal for most. Our server was very well educated in regards to the menu and eager to help / answer any questions. She seemed as though she was used to (or anticipated, since the place is new) explaining the differences between sushi and sashimi - again, great for those who are trying sushi for the first time. The food itself was good! I ordered clear soup to start and then Boston and Spicy Salmon rolls. My fiancé got the sashimi deluxe platter which was an assortment of 15 or so varieties of raw fish. I'm not huge on sashimi, but I gave some of his fish a try and it all tasted very fresh (or as fresh as it can by Midwest standards, I suppose)! I'd definitely give the raw meat a go-again after eating here, so that's a plus! My rolls were also good - nothing out of the ordinary - though the Boston rolls were a bit bland. I would certainly eat here again to satisfy the spur of the moment sushi craving. It's nice to have something close by in Watertown. If you're looking for a truly authentic sushi experience, however, I'd say save your money and venture a little closer to Madison or Milwaukee. I'm somewhat new to the area but I've heard that there are more promising places (but that's expected). When I opened the menu, I was struck by the first "Side" option listed: French Fries. Stopped here for lunch, on a Wednesday, and was pleasantly surprised! The service was very attentive and friendly. We had the O.M.G. roll, Bamboo roll, crab rangoon, fried rice, and vegetable udon noodles. All pretty good! Udon noodles were delicious!! The shrimp tempura rolls were good but the shrimp was a bit overdone and greasy. The dining room could use a little more light and an update but all-in-all I liked it! Completely caught by surprise! I come to Watertown every now and then on business. On my first trip down I began searching for restaurants nearby for dinner. When I found Sake House, I was a bit apprehensive as I, honestly, didn't expect much from a sushi restaurant in Watertown, Wisconsin (sorry). Well, after tasting their amazing rolls, I had absolutely nothing to worry about. This place is the real deal. I'm from California, so fresh sushi is easy to come by. I must say, however, that I believe that Sake House would do quite well, even in California! I highly recommend this place.
