We stopped in during a week day lunch. We really enjoyed the crab rangoon! The rest was all good, but not great. I'd like to go back to try other sushi rolls. I had a filet mignon hibachi meal and was pretty disappointed with the meat quality. The rest of the meal was great, so I'd probably get it again but try shrimp instead. read more

We picked up some "to go" sushi from VIP last week and have to say we were impressed at the improvement of quality in our food over our past dine in and to go experiences. We tried a couple new rolls and the sashimi was incredibly fresh with seriously good knife cuts. We will definitely return for a dine in dinner soon! read more

My first trip there last year was fantastic, unfortunately this trip was less than fantastic, service was good. The food missed the mark. The tempura wasn't great, it was doey and not fried all the way through. It was disappointing. I will go back, next time I'll stay away from the tempura. The ambiance is great when I am able to dine in but typically I will do carry out. Carry out is always packed perfectly and fresh. But the bento and hibachi are equally filling and delicious. My personal recs -- -shrimp temperura roll (always fresh) -salmon & avocado roll (so fatty/buttery!) -spicy girl roll (a special roll but so so delicious! Instead of nori it is wrapped in soy paper and packs just the right amount of flavor with just enough going on) The crab rangoons are gernously filled and the seaweed salad is standard favorite. Soooo good!! We got the Out Of Control roll and the Kobe roll as well as the chicken hibachi. Miso soup was delish and the side salad was crisp. We've closed down a lot of restaurants as we are late eaters. Other than the good food, another thing to note is that I've never seen any restaurant pull out the booths - yes the entire booths - to clean behind and under them. These guys did! My mom and I stopped in for lunch the day after Thanksgiving. The decor is fun and modern. But the booth seats are set oddly far back from the table. It made eating a bit tricky. We opted for the bento box lunch special. I had the tempura shrimp and my mom had the shrimp. The tempura was light and flakey. I particularly liked the broccoli. The spring rolls were good as well. The dipping sauce had a little kick. Yay! The California roll was a California roll. Hard to screw that up. The service was fine. Nothing spectacular but nothing wrong, either. And the prices were reasonable. I'm happy Oconomowoc finally has a sushi joint, but I wouldn't say there was anything outstanding about this place. Although one may not gravitate towards a sushi joint in lake country Wisconsin, I wanted to see if VIP was a hidden gem in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately, my gut has to honestly report that this was pretty fair Americanized sushi. Although the creativity in the names alluded me to try out the menu, the slices of seafood did not seem as fresh or showcased as to other sushi places. I think I should have also went for simpler, traditional rolls the first time to objectively rate the place better. I would be interested in how their hibachi grill fares because those usually are never disappointing. read more

The chicken hibachi wasn't my favorite as I didn't care for the sauce but I had never had hibachi before so I can't rank the quality. But it came with soup, salad and fried rice which were all great. First time there 7.21.2018. Starters were very good. Spring Rolls and Crab Rangoon. We both had Bento Boxes. One Shrimp and one Chicken Tempura. The veggies that came with it were quite good. I enjoyed the seaweed salad. Miso soup was a first for me, and good. House salad with ginger dressing was good. Our server, Ryan - sorry if the spelling is off, was good and seemed to know the menu well. She was very enthusiastic. One problem was that the restaurant was not very busy and the timing of when food came out was too quick as courses were brought out. We'll be back again to explore more. read more
