Ramen lukewarm, service slow, and ambiance was cute, but too dark where we were seated. The garlic miso ramen ($18) didn't have a rich flavor and honestly tasted watered down. The eggs were perfectly cooked and I loved the corn. The black garlic ramen ($19) had a strong garlic flavor without being overwhelming. The pork wasn't overly fatty. Both ramens came out lukewarm and took nearly 40min after ordering for them to be served (30 min after the calamari was served) which felt like a long time especially at 5pm on a Sunday with only a few tables seated. Would recommend the calamari, it tasted fresh, but was a very small serving for $8. The ambiance is cute, but very dark, so it was difficult to see what I was eating. We were sat by the window.

Super hip, relaxed inviting spot for a get together. Sushi was beautiful, fresh, innovative & full of fantastic flavors! Ramen was warm, healing & comforting the way it was intended. Neccy was attentive & great, she was very knowledgeable and talked us through some allergies to ensure not getting sesame seeds. Loved this place!

I hadn't been to Kawa since before they temporarily closed due to an unexpected fire in the apartments above, but I'm so glad I finally went back. I tried The Amazing Roll, and it was truly amazing! I love when a roll leans on the fresher side, and this one nailed it--cold and delicious lobster salad on top, tempura shrimp and avocado inside, and a spicy kimchi sauce to bring it all together. I also had the tonkotsu ramen. The pork was great, but I wish the egg was a little jammier, and the portion felt a bit small for the price. I grew up around a lot of great ramen spots, so I'll admit my expectations are high. It's a solid option for a ramen fix, but not the best I've ever had. Our server was outstanding--quick, attentive, and had such a contagious positive energy. Inside it is also very cute with lots of natural wood and it definitely has a modern feel. Overall, a great experience! I'll definitely be back for The Amazing Roll because it lives up to its name.

This place has been on my list and I'm so happy we selected it before a movie at the Oriental! We went on a Monday evening so it wasn't wildly busy and there was tons of available street parking. We were seated immediately and drinks taken (just sodas--nothing wild). The food was outstanding--so beautiful and fresh. I got two rolls, my buddy got soup, sashimi, and avocado salad. My rolls were perfect and my pal said the avocado salad was his favorite anywhere. I can't wait to come back and try the gyoza and ramen. (Oh, also, the aesthetic is super bright and sharp and bathrooms are clean!)

So good, so good! Normally I don't eat outside because I don't want to fight the bugs, the wind, and I especially don't like parklettes because then you're dealing with peds and their dogs or cars blasting up and down the street. But the stars aligned and we had a lovely quiet afternoon that was perfect for sitting outside. Our server was lovely. She was fantastic. We hardly had to wait at any point and she was super efficient as well as friendly. We did four rolls (pictured) the T-Rex, Godzilla, Rainbow, and Ninja roll. Usually I'd throw a California roll in just because my husband doesn't always love sushi the way I do. He dug all of these rolls. I thought the Rainbow roll was a bit fishy, but he loved it. It's hard to pick one roll because the Ninja, T-Rex, and Godzilla were simply divine. The Godzilla has some heat to it which was nice since it's really rich roll. We also had Goyza and Edamame. It was all just so good. What a wonderful experience. I can't wait to go back and try the ramen.

Super delicious, it's been about two years since I've had food from Kawa so I was happy to try them again! I popped into the Third St Market Hall after the Symphony and grabbed food to go! They were one of few vendors still open at 9:40pm. It was a long line but they handled orders very quickly.

So good! Didn't know what to expect. We just looked for a place somewhere in Milwaukee while we were in town. I had the spicy Ramen and it was so good. Three spicy levels and it was the right level spiciness. I asked for an extra wavy noodle and they delivered. It was great to have extra noodles which I like to do. We got rice for the kids. I got some hot saki and it was exactly what I was looking for to go with my ramen. We sat outside and it was a nice, peaceful area (even though we were next to the street). Service was really great, and made it feel like we're the only ones there.

Love this place! This was my first time trying takoyaki; it was warm, soft, & delicious! I also got the Tonkotsu ramen which was rich, flavorful, & filling! Each ingredient in the ramen tasted delicious on it's own (like the perfect soft boiled egg, bamboo, and mushrooms), but together the flavors are amazing! I definitely recommend this place!

Sushi burrito: fresh and delicious. Sauces are not my favorite but I definitely enjoy eating my sushi in burrito form. Would definitely recommend seaweed salad, portion is HUGE!!

Chicken katsu entree and chicken fried rice entree

The chicken katsu entree was pretty good but I didn't love the sauce it came with, it was kind of citrus-y. I loved how thin the chicken katsu was and that it was white meat. The japanese fried rice with chicken entree was really good. The chicken in it was so tender and the rice tasted buttery. The serving sizes were pretty big and plenty to share.

I love the food here every time! Service is alright. But ramen has always hit the spot here. Portions are a little smaller but it's not bad!

If you are celiac or gluten-free, I don't recommend ever eating here. While they have a dedicated gluten-free menu with options for changing things out, on two separate occasions (of the 4 times I've been there) they've made a mistake. It puts you in a challenging and uncomfortable situation when you are curious about something actually being gluten-free. I know for myself, you don't want to insinuate that you don't trust your server! My most recent visit there I had the shittake/vegetable Ramen with rice noodles. I explained that I can't have soy sauce because it contains wheat. I explained that if they have tamari that they could check if it is wheat free because I often can have tamari instead of soy sauce. I explained that I can't have anything that contains wheat. My server informed me that she would make sure that this was gluten-free, that the rice noodles would be replacing the Ramen noodles. While eating I was curious if the noodles were not gluten-free, and I was informed that they do seem to be rice noodles. We were also sure to order the tofu as steamed rather than fried so that it would not have cross-contamination. (Due to first glutened experience) Later that night and the following day I can report that what I ate was not in fact, rice noodles or gluten free, and I have been glutened. On a previous occasion, I ordered the fresh spring rolls with a sauce that I was informed was gluten-free with tofu. While already eating this, the server came over and informed me that the tofu was not gluten-free, and had been fried. I think that there may be some lack of understanding what gluten-free means and how it impacts people generally in most of the food service industry. I believe they did their best to try to accommodate. That being said if you are celiac or gluten intolerant, please steer clear! Very unfortunate because it was tasty. I understand that as someone who needs to eat gluten-free that I am taking a risk by eating at a restaurant that is not gluten-free forward. Although they have a dedicated allergy menu, two out of the four times I've eaten there it hasn't made a difference. Great restaurant, not great for celiac.
