I have come here multiple times for takeout sushi, and Fuji always seems to deliver. I usually get pretty simple rolls, but I appreciate that they give you a decent amount of fish in each roll and don't overburden you with rice to drown out the taste. They've struck a very nice balance and I'm consistently happy with their sushi. I did come recently to dine in, and everyone in the group thought that their sushi was delicious. I do appreciate that they have a dining area way from the hibachi tables as they can get so loud and distracting sometimes. The service was fine but not exceedingly attentive, but nothing where I wouldn't be willing to come back. I've seen this place from the mall nearby but never stopped in until this past weekend. We had a delicious lunch and I will absolutely return! We had the Middleton Roll, the Fancy, then crab rangoons and salmon nigiri. Our server was lovely, attentive but not overbearing. He had a great energy about him. I have been a regular customer here since they opened. I took three family members to dinner on Monday, 5/13/2024. It was a highly disappointing experience. I won't be going back. The chef was not good or entertaining with their standard tricks: flipping broccoli to patrons, banter, and even the fire effects. This could be forgiven if the food was good. Two ordered filet mignon, one chicken, and the last ordered all sushi. We both ordered the filet mignon done medium. It was overcooked, too well done, and had too much pepper. The chef slopped the fried rice on our plates so fast that he spilled it all over. It was like he was working in a military mess hall. They also gave us more than half our plates full of rice. No one could finish it. I tasted the chicken and shrimp; it was rubbery and overcooked as well. The person who ordered the sushi said it was good. Portions have been cut way back. I've ordered the filet before, and it was equivalent to an 8-ounce whole steak. This appeared to be more like 6 ounces. The prices are up, and the portions are down, and they overload you with the rice and vegetables. The salad was not fresh, and the ordinarily excellent ginger dressing was not up to previous experiences. Many of the chairs have significant cracking and considerable holes in the upholstery. Fuji now looks like a restaurant that is going out of business soon. I'm not particularly eager to dump on them because I've been a loyal patron, but I would avoid this place. We had a really fun time at Fuji tonight. I have visited once in the past, and the food was good, the Chef was not very interactive. Tonight was a different story, the teppanyaki master was incredibly personable, entertaining and informative. He was tossing food into our 9 year old sons mouth (and made it), entertained with the iconic onion volcano and lots of fire. I would suggest the Hibachi/teppanyaki seating/selection to adult friends as well as families, our kids love the show and the flavorful food. Remember to ask your host for the hibachi seating, get a Ramune 'marble' soda for the kids and enjoy the interactive experience. read more

Love a good Hibachi. If you are looking for great rolls, fried rice, and a show then check out Fuji! We went at around 6 on a weeknight with a party of 5 and were able to be seated immediately. The hostess was very rude and she didn't speak very good English (she was Latin) she sat our very large party of 13 at a hibachi table and because 2 of the remaining guests were not there she kicked us out of the table and made us wait another hour even though the last 2 guest came 5 minutes later. My mother was verbally accosted and yelled at by the assistant Manager, George, at Fuji in Middleton on Saturday March 8th. We brought my mother there for her birthday and she sat at a table with her husband. Unaware that we are supposed to be seated by a hostess, because when she called someone told her that Fuji doesnt take reservations so she should just walk in and pick a habachi table, thats what she did. She realized she was to check in with the hostest so she went up to the front and once she did Geroge proceeded to yell at my mother in front of the whole restaurant about how she "lacks common sense." She kept apologizing and he talked over her and stormed past her andd threw menus at me and my step father at the habachi table. I told my mom and stepfather to go outside and I will talk to him. I explained to George how i Have alot Followers and I do restaurant reviews all over Madison and how he ruined an entire experience because the rest of the family were on their way and I just needed him to calm down and explain why was he so angry at us. It was humiliating. My mom wanted me to record her and the family trying habichi (Im fasting so I wasnt going to partake) and I told him he should be kinder to people who dont understand how Habichi works. I tried to speak to him and reason with him in a calm tone (Alhamdullilah for prayer this Ramadan) but he insisted on slamming down menus and walking away from me and ignoring me when I asked for the owners name and contact information. Our favorite hibachi place in town. Love the birthday song and dessert they give to the birthday person. Family friendly restaurant with excellent service. Our server asked about food allergies and upon learning that I had a wheat allergy, explained that the hibachi is actually not gluten free. No worries though! He simply sent my order to the back kitchen to be prepared separately. I thought it was nice of him to ask and provide an alternate option. The price is reasonable for hibachi given how much food you get. But the food is really just ok, nothing to write home about. There were a few birthdays the night we were there. Seems like they put more emphasis on their decor than food. Right when you walk in you see great decoration, beautiful setup and intimate setting. One side is hibachi and the other is sushi dining. I went for sushi and was seated in a nice tall booth, very cozy. The menu was large with lots to choose from including non-sushi items. Price range was the usual and Sunday is dinner price/portion all day. We placed our order and after that rolled in the disappointment. Beef negimaki bento box came with soup and salad. But the salad was soaked in thousand island dressing served with super hard croutons. The mushroom soup was flavored with lots of sodium. Not much to it, it was pretty much broth. It took long for the rest of the food to come out which was two special sushi rolls. We started to share the bento box because I didn't want my friend to wait for the rolls to begin eating, the food was going to get cold. Finally the sushi rolls came out. The bento box was near complete. And I don't know why most sushi joints I've experience tend to always bring the bento box way before the sushi rolls, but this wait took way too long. And the wait wasn't worth it. This place lacks a lot in flavor. They seems to be heavy on the sweet or salty side. The sushi rolls even though had multiple ingredients had one flat note to them, no excitement whatsoever. Their wasabi and ginger had no bite. Even the soy sauce had a weird smell and taste to it. I've been waiting for his place a year ago and now finally, it's opened! There are two parts of the place, one is the Japanese restaurant and the other is the hibachi grill. For the Japanese restaurant, nothing special, but they do come in big portions. Tried the udon and regular entrees, tasted good. The restaurant looks great, and watching the bartender light his hand on fire (on purpose) was cool, but...I don't think they've ever heard of salt? Starting off, the miso soup was basically flavorless, and the tofu was over cooked and mushy. I then had the seafood tempura udon, which also didn't have a ton of flavor, until I added a ton of soy sauce. The salmon was horribly over cooked and tough, the shrimp was still cold, and the scallops were flavorless. We Also tried the chicken tempura, which tasted bland and oily, and the tempura breading was...chewy? The onion was also flavorless and chewy, though the sauce it came with was good. The fire island sushi didn't match its picture in the menu and wasn't the worst sushi ever, but again, it wasn't memorable. After eating everything else, we tried the rice that came with the tempura. I don't know how a Japanese place could mess up rice, but it was chewy too? The biggest mistake we made was the tempura ice cream.
