I'm back Yelp! My buddy and I decided to come here for our last weekend here in Meridian and since he's going to Japan, I wanted to introduce him to sushi! First off, the decor in here is very nice, they have a little room where you have to take off your shoes and sit and cross your legs together and eat, like a traditional Japanese experience but you have to reserve the room. They also have hibachi which I didn't get to try! But it looks good. So my friend and I ordered the Out of Control and the Rock n Roll to start off with the basic special rolls so he can get an idea what a sushi roll is. Then we ordered the maki rolls (spicy salmon and spicy scallops) and they weren't bad! Also ordered the salmon and yellowtail nigiri and the taste was very fresh. Seems like this place knows what's up. The service is super friendly and the atmosphere is great. Would definitely be back if I end up in Meridian again! I miss this little town! read more

After waiting 40 minutes for our food at lunch while everyone around us was being served the server finally told us there was a problem. Our order was incorrect and they were having to remake it and it would be 5 more minutes and she would see about a discount. I told her I expected a discount. We got our food and the server brought our check with a 10% discount. I told her I was insulted and to tell the manager I would not be back. After being there 55 minutes we got a $3.20 discount. I didn't expect to find a Sushi place in Meridian, Mississippi, let alone a good one. The sushi is fresh and a lot better than I expected. A little pricy though, because I'm used to finding good cheap sushi in California. The atmosphere is also nice, I didn't do Habachi, but it was still pretty inside. Finally a decent Japanese Restaurant in Meridian! Authentic, cool atmosphere, friendly wait staff, reasonable prices. Special Bento is the best deal: two entrees, CA roll, soup & salad for under $20 dinner & $10 lunch. Haven't tried the Love Boat nor Hibachi Table, but will soon! Be adventurous and try Chicken/Pork Katsu, any of the yummy appetizers and Red Bean or Green Tea Ice Cream. They also serve decent sake, cold or hot. My hubby and I love Sake Sushi. It is soooo good!!!! I love the handmade rolls. We've been twice so far and has the feel to your typical Benihanas or Shoguns. It is pretty good. There's no way Sake is worth four or five stars, my husband and I had hibachi & were completely disappointed. I had vegetable hibachi dinner & he had the chicken dinner along with a California roll which is the only reason why they get three stars. Not only was our hibachi "chef" a ass but after setting the onion on fire (aka train smoke) he squirted water at three adults who asked him not to. Also while serving the cooked chicken, he asked if we want to catch chicken which we didn't want to. He threw bits of chicken at us. Being the only sushi place in Meridian, it's good for it's location. But overall, being good sushi it is not. California rolls here are half the size that I'm used to. I had the beef teriyaki, and although I've had worse, I've also have had better. The sauce was weak and the meat was rubbery. The miso soup was also too watered down. Overall, I would have given it a 2 star but because this is the only place in Meridian for "authentic" japanese cuisine, I'd have to give it a 3. I think that I've just had too much really good Japanese food and this place just wasn't impressive. I stopped here on a cross-country road trip because I saw good Yelp reviews as well as a billboard and thought that I'd give it a shot. I was really disappointed. I ordered a Special Bento Box for dinner and split it with my mother knowing that it would be enough food. First of all... I've never paid $20 for a bento box and I think that's really overpriced. The salad dressing tasted like Thousand Island... and if you didn't know, that's not typical Japanese style dressing. The miso soup had those fried onion strings in it... also really odd. Where's the tofu!? The waitress was nice, but seem disinterested in us and her job in general. The atmosphere was cute and as I walked to the bathroom I saw a closed off room with a lowered table and special chairs. I think it would be fun to have a private party and sit in there. Ok... honestly I knew that I couldn't expect much from a Japanese place in Mississippi, but I can't give a restaurant a high rating just because I started off with low expectations. For sushi, I'd wait until you got to someplace you knew and liked. For service, Sake Sushi was above and beyond great! Lots of silly rolls with cooked food and crawfish and mayonnaise. Serviceable at best. Powdered miso soup and a green salad overpowering with some sort of mayo based dressing. My mom, my sister, and I decided to come eat here the other day, we are from here in Meridian and we always enjoy coming here but last month we came in and their air conditioning was broken and when we came in last week it was still hot inside. When I am paying to sit down somewhere and eat I would really like to feel comfortable and not like I am sitting in a sauna. Anyway, there wasn't a wait but we were sat at a table right next to the wall separating the different dining spaces and our waitress just kept peeping over the wall to ask us what we wanted to drink and eat. It just felt very awkward because she could had walked around the table rather than hanging her head off the side of the wall. The best restaurant in Meridian. However being the best place in meridian is kind of like being the only kid in tee ball that knows second base comes after first. If you're passing through it's right off the interstate near bonita lakes mall and you can count on good sushi at a reasonable price and ok hibachi. Expect to wait 20 min or so for a table on Friday or Saturday night. I don't think Sake could survive in a town where good sushi is common like Seattle, San Francisco or even Pensacola but it gets the job done for Meridian. read more

I can honestly say that this was the worst sushi I have ever had. I usually order spicy rolls and was happy to see that Sake had a decent assortment of spicy rolls. I was however, very disappointed once I got my sushi. The contents of the roll were mashed into some sort of a paste, something I had never seen done with sushi before...something that should never be done with sushi. It looked and tasted unappealing. Even worse, was the spicy tuna roll. It smelled and tasted like CANNED tuna. Fresh tuna should never be that way. It made me feel sick. I would not recommend this place at all, especially not to first time sushi eaters as it will most likely make a bad impression for sushi. Definitely won't be returning. Out of options and feeling adventurous, we decided to give it another shot. We were greeted enthusiastically by Enrique, who provided excellent service. He ordered the steak hibachi and I ordered the tempura udon, along with the salmon sashimi and some crazy salmon rolls to share. When our food came, we were pleasantly surprised by the sushi! The quality of the fish was pretty good and there wasn't too much rice. The only reason this place is not getting five stars is because my udon was slightly soggy. I stopped by here, after reading the review, with two of my friends; first let me start by saying- all of the reviews about the sushi being so great had me incredibly excited. (I spend way too much of my paycheck on sushi on a regular basis-I am addicted.) We got there and it was fairly busy; we opted to wait for a table instead of sitting at the bar so that we could all face each other. When we got out table, I immediately started perusing the sushi selection-it was minimal and didn't seem to offer much in the way of traditional sushi. I ordered the spicy tuna roll, some tuna and salmon sushi pieces, along with a signature roll they had on their menu. Disappointed doesn't accurately describe how I felt.. the spicy tuna was gritty and had NO flavor- it looks like it had been frozen cheap sushi with no spice whatsoever. The roll itself was lacking as well-it was just average with no real flavor- I'm surprised at how many people review the sushi so highly- I am not one to judge to harshly on food but dang.. Very good sushi - fresh salmon and tuna nigiri are wonderful. My wife and I usually add a spider roll and shrimp crunchy roll to our raw order, and both are consistently excellent. Absolutely terrible. I would not feed their sushi to my dog. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the food, just absolutely terrible. Their tuna rolls tasted and smelled like canned tuna, a tuna roll should NEVER taste like canned tuna. Their rolls arrived at my table warm, warmer than room temperature, sushi should not be warm. It was below sub-par, the sushi chef must have been an amateur at best, because the rolls were falling apart as I ate them. The only reason I finished the rolls was because I paid for them. This is not a sushi restaurant, it is a bunch of amateurs playing sushi. They really need to learn what they're doing. I've never had a spicy roll with fish which had been shredded into a paste and tasted like canned fish. Who knows, maybe they use canned fish in their rolls. Meridian is limited in Japanese cuisine and they know it. I used to like this place a lot! It's still a very nice restaurant for the area. On Friday or Saturday nights, it's packed! I still eat here because my options are limited and the food is generally good. I usually get either: salmon teriyaki, love boat (this is for 2 people), filet hibachi, or Snow White roll. The prices keep ticking up and the portions and quality keep going down (FYI, they own the yogurt shop next store too). The soup is broth with a sliver (they must be using razor blades) of mushroom and green onion (sometimes a couple fried onions). The fried rice is rice and a hint of egg. The veggie portions are tiny!!! The salad is made of iceberg lettuce and topped with ginger-mayo dressing (a sliver of red cabbage, if you're lucky). The water sometimes tastes soapy. They'll fix it, but it makes you wonder. The service is generally good. Certain waitstaff are better than others. One of the better restaurants in meridian. read more
