I should've split it with my friend as we both struggled to get through half of each of our bento orders. The bento comes with salad, steamed rice, miso soup, mixed tempura, and 4 pieces of a California roll. Luckily, the server had given our order packed to-go so I could easily take it back to the hotel and stick the leftovers in the fridge. They have some seating indoors, but you can grab a table inside the mall if you're meeting up with others grabbing food from another eatery. Solid spot. I liked how low key the place was. It's located at the main entrance of the mall and across from arguably more competitive options, but this place feels and is a hidden gem in my opinion. I got the veggie ramen and burned my tongue. I was pissed but also happy that the ramen was hot and fresh. The broth was not too salty and just right. I went to order only a tempra . I waited about 20 minutes. (Only person there besides a couple ) . I specifically asked for the sauce on the side. After 20 minutes I got my food with the sauce on top . The lady says " sorry I know you asked for it on the side but they put it on top, would you like for them to REMAKE them ?? Stopped by for dinner while in the Town Center Mall. Seating is a little chaotic as the 2 waitresses are busy serving tables but we found a table within minutes. Our waitress was very friendly and had our drinks & order taken quickly. We ordered the spring rolls, Chicken Teriyaki bento, Beef Teriyaki bento & Chicken/Spicy Pork bowl. The Spring rolls were perfectly crunchy but rather tasteless. The bento meals are plentiful & delicious! You get miso, white rice, green salad, California roll (4 pieces), tempera (excellent!!) and your main dish. We had to wait a bit longer for the bowl but it was really good. I ordered a pickup from DoorDash and on the menu it does not say that the seafood tofu stew comes in spicy. When I went into the store to pick up the girls told me that the menu does show that it's spicy. I told the girls at the register and they said they couldn't give me a refund because it was through DoorDash. So I reordered another one without spice and they couldn't even discount or work with me somehow to make my experience better. Being someone that comes from food service I expected more. We really liked this place. Reminds us of home. Rice was not overdone, so was the trimmings that comes along with it. Very equally proportioned! I'm surprised of the negative reviews maybe but it's their experiences so I will validate it. The staff was nice and approachable. We've gone twice already! First one was a take out during rush lunch hour. It took a long time to get our food but we had time. The second we dined in around 1pm and tried a different menu as well. Customer service is horrible you have to ask the staff to bring you refills they don't check on you. My boyfriend's order was messed up and he told the correct order the first time there was no apology just seemed as if we were an inconvenience for the waitress. I wish I could of given a higher score but when it comes to food I think it is important to be honest as you can. First off, the establishment is beautiful, everything looks new and clean. They have music videos going on but I wish they could of toned it down, when eating you want to mellow not chew as fast as greyhound. Customer service was great, I wanted Ramen or any noodles with chicken and the associate offered a Japanese bowl, when we got our food it was exact as the bowl I had at their other location in Lompoc, so I was expecting a great meal. Well, the noodles wasn't totally cooked and the chicken was tough as a leather heel (old chicken) or the chicken should of boiled longer. The food is not authentic high quality Japanese food, check out Ichiban or Yamato in Arroyo Grande. However- for fast and cheap ramen/ gyoza/ japanese fixins 4/5! Their ramen is decent and in the santa maria valley that is hard to find! Their tonkotsu had a delicious charsiu They add corn which is an interesting add but they are accurate and chill with their substitutions. Check though because my gf and I both asked for no corn on our mobile order and hers still had it. Their gyoza and edamame are for sure worth adding on every visit. The service is... meh but these are young adults teens working a food joint in the mall- i don't expect much and they meet the bare minimum- they are clean not rude and willing to be helpful- we had a mobile order for instance once but forgot to add gyoza to it; they rang us up and had us that appetizer to go with our ramen within 5 minutes- They knew we didn't want our food to get cold so they asked the chef to rush us out the app and it was gasoline on the fire good. The prices are moderate so you can walk out with food for two (no apps or drinks) for 20-28$ which is hard to come by these days. I regularly go here its a nice spot. This is more of a "fast food" quality sushi. We ordered 5 different rolls. Sexi girl roll, California, shrimp & crab roll, Rainbow, and spicy tuna roll. Honestly, I would not drive out of my way to come here. If they step up their quality maybe would try again. The fish was definitely not fresh, anyone who's had good sushi knows the difference. The tempura tasted as if their oil had not been changed. The only roll that was Ok is the spicy tuna, and again I stress it was OK nothing special. After their online system did not give me all options when I ordered a poke bowl, I added the extra info to The comments section. I go to the restaurant to pick up 20 minutes later just like the app said, and the cashier / worker told me that I didn't fill out all the information online. I filled out an order sheet in front of him with my name, handed it to him and he said he would have the sushi chef make it right away. After 15 minutes and seen others get their food who had arrived after me, I asked to speak to the owner as I noticed him talking with the sushi chef. The owner came by and I told him the problem with their online ordering system and he just said okay and walked away. He did not go check on my food that I still did not have, nor did he apologize. After seeing yet another order go out, you can only imagine how upset I was getting. The chef saw me and asked me my name because apparently my name badge on my shirt wasn't enough. He turned around and handed me my bag with my food. I asked him how long it was sitting up there waiting and he said 5 minutes. So basically nobody paid attention about an order that should have been marked urgent. Very disappointed. It will be a long time until I go back. Aaaaaand now after finally getting my food and getting back to work, over half of my tuna in my poke bowl is no longer bright red and raw because the rice was hot and after sitting for so long, It's cooked! The town center was already closed so the security guard told us to drive around passed Sear's and go through their side door. When we came in, no one greeted us initially as the place was empty. An employee (I am assuming the owner) stuck her head out to see if someone came in. We asked if they were still open and she said they were. We told her we wanted to dine in, so she pointed to the booth by the silverware counter and said to sit there (I thought it was odd that she did not offer for us to sit anywhere we wanted). Because the town center was closed, there are no public restrooms available for use (according to the employee). My husband had to use the restroom so we ended up deciding to make a to go order. We ended up ordering: Cucumber Salad (taken to go), $4.95 prior to tax- The portion was smaller than what I was expecting. The salad had a savory marinade which surprised me because I was expecting it to be sweet. My husband really enjoyed this salad and I thought it was just okay. Chirashi Bowl (taken to go), $15.50 prior to tax- A large portion of different fresh tasting fish, served with sweet sushi rice, ginger and wasabi. My husband and I shared this entree and enjoyed it (definitely a real large portion for 1 or a small portion between 2 people). The white rice was nice and sweet, not too sticky. It was cooked right. -------------------------------- (Total= $22.14 after tax, prior to tip) Unexpected Japanese restaurant found in a mall that surprisingly had great food. Todays visit was extremely disappointing. Our tempura appetizer was super small and not cheap. Much less than we received a few weeks ago. The tofu seafood stew was 90% tofu and 10% seafood. It tasted good with the exception of the 3 shrimp in the stew. Very tough and bitter tasting. The worst part was the lack of service. We never ordered any rolls because no one came to check on us. Another customer had to go up to counter to ask for boxes and we had to go ask for utensils. This business seems to focus on the many takeout orders and they forget about the dine in customers. Really liked the convenience of this spot. It's more of a Japanese-Korean fusion. Really diverse menu with ramen, rolls, Bento lunches, create your own poke bowls and some Korean sides and staples. Fish quality was good. Everything on my Bento was excellent and featured Miso BBQ/ broiled Salmon, crisp tempura, salad, rice, miso and 4 pc CA roll. They also so do some Korean dishes that loooked amazing. Kim Chee Fried Rice, Bulgogi, Bento Lunches -- I'd like to go back soon and try some other menu items. They even have Calpico beverages.
