Water tasted like dirty pipes. Food was disgusting. Pretty sure the caterpillar roll had teriyaki sauce and not eel sauce. I don't know why, but their ginger was sour, as if it went bad. I had lunch here with the kids today and I suspect our waitress was new. Among rolls, we ordered a Korean ramen. Prior to ordering, I asked our waitress the difference between the Korean and Japanese ramen as both were on the menu. She explained the difference was that it came with a fish cake and we opted for the Korean one. Once the bill came, I pointed out that we were charged for the Japanese one (about 4$ more) and asked them to adjust it. After a long wait, I got a new bill that still had a higher price tag than the menu. The other waiter told me it was their mistake and they served us the Japanese one. I am not sure what's going on but I haven't had another place ever charge me more than the menu listing price for an item I ordered. The young man was condescending, literally saying " look lady, you got the more expensive item". The whole thing was embarrassing and condescending and I couldn't wait to get out of there. There has been a marked improvement. We had not visited in a long time but decided to give it a try because we like supporting local. While some of the wait staff can still use a little work, the atmosphere is way better. I know some of their wait staff are young, maybe their first jobs but they are at least polite and helpful. Waiters make only a tiny fraction of their earned tips and the boss illegally steals your tips if you "make a mistake" without your consent. The ambiance is pretty basic and it is often understaffed. I genuinely think that Haha Sushi is the best you're going to get in this general area. I actually refuse to revisit most sushi restaurants here besides Haha Sushi. My rating is more so 3.5 but I've decided to round up because I've never had issues with service! The food is alright. They are very very generous with their portions so you'll definitely be getting more for what you pay for. I got the Hwaedupbap, Chirashi, and miso soup. You could kinda taste the fish through the chojang (spicy sauce), but I didn't mind it too much. The miso soup was good though. We just picked up the food for today, but we never have issues with service when we're dining it. Usually the servers are pretty prompt since the floor is very small. We've been coming here for years. It's been a rollercoaster of a ride. There have been times when the food seemed extra special and there are other times where it seemed somewhat average. The last time we went we had very nice customer service. The portions were good. I had the awesome sushi and asked for double tuna instead of salmon. I have ordered this many times and this time it came out with snapper in place of salmon. Not what I asked for. Too bad. The sauces we asked for were good, the service was good, the fish (not so much). The albacore was tough. The snapper was not to my liking. We'll explore other places now to fill the void. The worst rolls I have ever had. Fishy smell and too much salmon and shrimp (the 'easy' raw fish) on a Rainbow Roll. Caterpillar roll had bruised avocado. First off I used to come here all the time I even used to work here 10+ years ago. WOW have things have changed. Our usual spot KANPAI SUSHI IN SHELL BEACH was closed so we decided to try this place instead it had always been clean and decent. I was wrong. First off gnats galore we had to constantly swat them away. We ordered beers and I didn't even use my glass because it smelled like mildew. The soy sauce containers still had water in them. The table and menus were sticky, This restaurant just looks tired. We still ordered three rolls. The rolls are HUGE which is 1. Unpleasant and messy to eat but 2. Scary because it feels like they're just giving fish away before it goes bad. We each took about 1.5 bites each and it was an immediate NOPE. The real crab had shell in it, the fish was not fresh it everything just had this funk about it one roll that had fried tempura you could taste the oil was stale and old. These owners just don't care. We complained the waiter who was actually the best part of the experience , owner came out and basically yelled at us and told us we wouldn't get more than a 20% discount (-$7) and then continued to he argued with us, I don't know what more I can say besides the fish was off and everything was dirty? We didn't not care for it, and we weren't going to finish anything more than what we had already eaten which we regret. I would gladly pay $70 to never eat here again. I had to come back and add to my review. My husband and I both got sick! $70 worth of food poisoning this restaurant. I called to tell the owner and it's some answering service? Let me start off by saying this is closer to a 3 and a half rating than a 3. We've dined here quite a few times and this past weekend we were craving sushi so we called Ha Ha and ordered. Awesome sushi- the menu said 2 pieces of each fish but we got 3 which was great. Overall the meal wasn't bad but it was far from great. The cuts are way too big so the ratio of fish to rice is off. The fish quality itself is just ok, not terrible but still not great. I do appreciate the value as you get quite a bit for the price but I would rather get less with better quality. The fact I needed their zesty sauce to eat the nigiri isn't good. This also came with a spicy tuna roll which was pretty good. Miso soup was a nice addition as well. I will say that I have gotten their imperial and Cajun tuna roll and the quality on those is so much better. It seems their premium rolls are what you want here as they're definitely worth the price. If you're just looking for a value in sushi then this is the place! They have a bunch of basic rolls for half price and most of their combos come with a lot more food than the price would dictate. Their sushi isn't terrible but it's also far from the best. Their premium rolls are worth the money but their nigiri and sashimi leave you wanting better fish. Value led me to this rating. read more

Just had my worst meal ever from Ha Ha Sushi in Orcutt. I tried calling them to express my disappointment but only got their answering service. This was take out. I almost always get the same thing , so today I again ordered my favorite roll the Golden Ha Ha Sushi roll. So I know what it is supposed to taste like. It has Tempura shrimp in the middle that had to either old or way overcooked. Plus the Tuna that is usually so fresh was very chewy. Plus the edamame jumped from $4 something to $7.95 for a very small portion. Over $26 for the 2 items. The most I've paid for these dishes with the least amount of quality.
