Friendly staff and quick service. As far as the food, it's nothing fancy but it is very good Chinese food. In my experience, the quality of rice can be determined the following day when you don't need to re-hydrate it. This hit the mark. I actually really like the chow mein as well because, unlike most places around here, it was mainly chow mein and not a bunch of carrots or onions to fill in space. i was so unhappy yesterday, i went into the china one restaurant 1140 e. clark ave. ste 170 in santa maria ca. ordered the food i wanted and then i went to pay with my debit card, and they tell me they don't accept credit or debit cards only cash! there was no one in the business only three employees standing around, so i guess they did not want my business. my husband was looking at their menu i picked up yesterday and it clearly says on there they accept visa and mastercard! i had so been looking forward to eating chinese food yesterday and they turned my away, no one was in there ordering food and yet they still turned away my business! why did i look shady!!! ha, ha i just thought it was so unfair and we are never going back there again. i am going to tell every one i know not to frequent this business cause they suck!!! read more

Our daughter from China who adopted us was hopeful that C1 would have real Chinese dishes when she visited here but one look and one bite told the story of disappointment. All is not lost. There are still some good things to order. I get the best dish on the menu: Singapore Noodles! Regrettably, friendly customer service does not outweigh the marginal quality of the food at China One. We came to this local establishment because we wanted something quick, and burgers and pizza were far from our minds. This was our second visit here for takeout, and we immediately remembered why it had been about 18 months between visits . . . PROS: Vegetables were tasty; white rice was, well, white rice; spring rolls were small in serving size, but flavorful. The people that work here (own the place, maybe?) are very nice CONS: Szechuan Beef was very disappointing. I am not sure the source of their beef (I am not sure I want to know), but it just did not look appealing. Seriously, its color, texture and look left me perplexed. One taste settled it -- not too good. General Tso's Chicken had okay flavor, but there was way more dark meat than white meat; Hot & sour soup was forgettable, except my burnt tongue, which I am reminded of as I type. I want to like China One: it's location in Orcutt is so convenient and the people that work there seem like great folks. However, the food is of marginal quality. Very good Chinese food hidden in the central coast. Don't let the location fool you. It's hidden in the Albertsons strip mall. This place offers carry out or dine in. No delivery. Those who choose to dine in may be turned off by the spartan décor, but at least it's a very clean restaurant. The seating occupancy is considerably smaller than a stand alone restaurant. Prices are average compared to others in the central coast. Portion size is on the large size. Staff are friendly, and they have what appears to be a good base of locals that frequent the establishment. I'll eat here again, as it's hard to find decent Chinese food in this area. read more

We both ordered the identical dinner specials of SS Chicken and Mongolian Beef with fried rice and spring rolls. The chicken was very heavily battered and the Mongolian Beef should have been named Mongolian Onions. Neither of us had more than 2 thin slivers of beef, no green onions, peppers or pea pods.
