Enjoyed some lunch delivery from China Garden last week! The delivery is directly through the restaurant, though you can order right on GrubHub. Delivery came at the exact time it said it would, which was amazing and such a pleasant surprise. We went with the chicken cashew, wonton soup, fried dumplings, and spring rolls. Everything was hot upon arrival and there were some big wins and some major misses. Overall the cashew chicken was a bit of a miss for me. I loved the veggies included but the chicken was less than choice and the sauce not my favorite. I went with fried rice to go along with the cashew chicken and would recommend going plain white rice in the future. The dumplings were yummy, classic takeout chinese fried dumplings, and the spring rolls were a-okay. I wish the filled was a bit more chopped than stringy, if that makes sense. Wonton soup was lacking that MSG goodness and the wontons themselves were SO thick. The Szechuan chicken was below average. Not flavorful; kinda bland. Ingredients were low tier. A lot more small bits of chicken than actual white meat chunks. The broccoli was more stem than floret. I know cheap takeout isn't meant to be amazing, but even by those standards I've seen much better quality from other similarly-priced restaurants in the area. Also they didn't mix the flour very well into the sauce, so I got a couple odd floury bites. This is the only dish I've tried from this place, so I don't know if they were just having a bad day or the cook was inexperienced or both. If the flavor was at least decent I might overlook the ingredient-quality issues and give them another chance, but probably the blandness is due to their recipe and it isn't going to be better next time. I'd recommend Chang Lung instead -- same prices but massively better. read more

Terrible. The old restaurant was my favorite place for Chinese take out and it breaks my heart that with the new owners the food quality has gotten so much worse. The steamed dumplings were so good before and now they look like look sickly and taste just plain bad. The teriyaki steak has wonderful flavor and is now overdone and bland. To make matters worse after showing up at the time I was told it would be ready I still had to stand around waiting for 15 minutes, which is way too long when you're on your lunch break. Ordered take out. Chicken lo mein and dumplings. The driver smoked and the delivery, as a result, reeked of cigarettes. The dumplings tasted ok, but some were too soggy and fell apart. Had China Garden for my first time. I've been told by many people that's it's very good and I would agree. I went simple and had the sesame chicken combo with fried rice and an egg roll. Everything was very good. I don't know all of the details, but apparently if you order a certain amount of food, they give you something free. They gave us egg drop soup. I didn't try it. I love this place. It's a pretty standard Chinese restaurant so don't expect anything spectacular, but I have to say that I find myself craving their chicken mei fun quite a bit. It's like $8 for a huge portion of food, it always lasts me for two meals. I usually order pick up since I live close by and the food is always ready really fast, within 10-15 minutes of ordering. This is my closest Chinese restaurant, and they deliver. But honestly I feel their food is sub-par. It's usually greasy and lacking in depth of flavor. This place is top for chinese food in Rochester. Extremely reasonable pricing, and also absolutely delicious. I have, quite literally, tried every single chinese food place within the city limits of Rochester, Brighton, Penfield, and East Rochester. Chef King is excellent, but China Garden is my go-to. The fried dumplings here are doughy, and that reminds me of what you get in New York City. It's not the same kind of frozen looking dumpling you can buy at Wegmans, but a doughy, handmade, perfectly sized chinese dumpling. It's full of flavor and comes with the standard garlicky dipping sauce that everybody knows and loves. My favorite part about China Garden, though, is that they'll cook whatever you want. I've thrown them a ton of modifications to my order, depending on what I was in the mood for, and they always cooked a custom dish. Try getting the chicken and broccoli, add baby corn, and have it tossed in a spicy szechuan sauce. It's not on the menu, but trust me. I've turned a few people on to this place through this dish, and the truth is that everything here is very, very good. My husband and I love this place. It is our neighborhood spot and we get takeout pretty often. We used to order the same thing to the point where the woman that works there jokingly yelled at my husband when he came to pick up our food because we didn't order our normal Wonton Soup. Needless to say, he came home with Wonton Soup. All the food is really good. I eat Pork & Broccoli with sauce on the side and the pork is exceptional. Ordered chicken lo mein after a 13 hour work day, girlfriend went to pick up dinner while I showered. What I received was shredded chicken boiled with onions, celery, and a leafy green with a side of those fried noodles you can buy in a plastic bag. Refused to refund or exchanged and were adamant that the boiled chicken I received was lo mein. I used to go in for lunch 2-3/month when my previous employer was nearby, but I will never return. The crab rangoon and my girlfriends' sesame tofu were flavorless, and the rice was congealed and room temperature (3 minute drive from restaurant to house). But the fried noodles were adequate and the beef in stock was good. So if you want fried noodles and beef on stick feel free to swing by, you probably won't be that disappointed. read more

I placed an order last night 1/26/2018. The business is always friendly. Delivery is reasonably quick. However, this morning while I was throwing away the menu that always comes with the order, I noticed that my debit card number and expiration date was written on the top left of the menu!!! Seriously!!! I immediately checked my account and thankfully it was in good standing. However, this is a TERRIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICE. China Garden Kitchen is what I call "Greasy Spoon" Chinese: Americanized Chinese food that while not 100% authentic (ie no braised tendon or diakon salad), it still tasty. I've tried a variety of items from the menu and they are always consistently yummy. My favorites are the shrimp lo mien, egg roll, and fried chicken wings. The food actually exceeded my expectations (which admittedly were pretty low initially). I ordered the mixed vegetables with tofu to go. It came with fried tofu, and while I was hoping for fresh tofu, the flavor was pretty good. The ratio of tofu to vegetables was a little high, but the sauce was pretty tasty. I would have liked a little more sauce just to coat all of the tofu and veggies, but I much prefer too little sauce instead of too much sauce.
