2.5 stars. We got the triple roll maki entree with salmon avocado, spicy tuna, and Philadelphia. We also got the fried rice. All the rolls had too much rice. The salmon avocado roll was fine, not enough flavor. The spicy tuna roll was probably the weirdest spicy tuna roll I've ever had, and not in a good way. It was half cucumber, which im not a fan of, and the spicy tuna itself didnt taste anything like the spicy tuna im used to...it tasted spicy but not like fish? The Philly roll was my favorite roll actually, and im not usually a Philly roll fan, but the cream cheese added some nice flavor the other rolls were lacking. The fried rice was very mediocre. Very little flavor. The meal came with an unexpected side sauce which was more than just soy but we couldn't really tell what it was exactly. We went to Banzai Sushi and the service was really disappointing. Our server didn't seem to know the menu well. We ordered ramen to share, but she didn't give us an extra spoon or fork. The sashimi platter was served without soy sauce, and we had to ask for it. Guys, this place is a must go! I'm literally drooling thinking about it again! All of the sashimi pieces were fresh, no fishy odor or taste and the spicy tuna roll was just okay in comparison, but you can't really mess that up. I LOVED that little salad and those noodles, literally oozed umami flavor. You have to go for the fresh sushi and noods! Don't judge this place by the way it looks outside or even when you walk in. The place is small and have 4 tables that can accommodate 4 people to a table. I was skeptical of the food when the chef is not Asian. I was put at ease after being served the miso soup. It was perfect. Not watered down or taste like it came out of a can. The calamari tempura was excellent. I didn't care for the shumai. It was tiny and looked like it came out of a freezer. But the sushi we ordered more than made up for that. Absolutely worth the visit, or delivery - though the staff make going in person to wait for takeout worth it! Location wise, I was a little nervous getting out of the Uber... given it was a holiday weekend the parking lot was empty and the restaurant pretty slow, but I was afraid it was not open and I am so glad I was wrong. Everyone was so nice! You must have the Sushi Pizza - check my photos, I have the before, but more importantly the halfway through shot that shows how delish the inside is. I also tried the Red Bull and the Honeymoon - both so good. I love sushi but what really stood out to me was how creative their menu is - nothing like what I see in Boston - was a nice refreshing change of pace. The fish was on the lower end of sushi-grade, but what do you expect from a "Japanese" restaurant in the Ironbound. I kept it safe and ordered only a couple different kinds of California rolls, and ventured out into the abyss with a tuna roll. I am very particular about my tuna rolls and I should've stuck to my instincts. It was not the best tuna, but I've had worst.
