My family has enjoyed eating at Sakura many times, usually opting for their chicken katsu or teriyaki chicken bento boxes. Tons of good food at a reasonable price! Ordinarily I would give them a solid 4-stars. But my most recent experience did not go well. On Friday 3/20/26 we placed a to-go order and I decided to stray from my usual path and try a poke bowl with spicy tuna, shrimp, and krab. It was delicious! On Saturday, however, my stomach felt a bit sour. In the early morning hours on Sunday I was vomiting, and then spent Sunday alternating between sweating through the sheets of my bed and running to the toilet every 15-45 minutes. Not too loud and I love the style of the restaurant. We started the meal off with the spring rolls which came out fresh, crispy and hot. For our main course I had the chicken teriyaki with fried rice which was very flavorful. For sushi we shared the Omar roll (added avocado and Alfredo) which was soooo delicious! Ive had this roll a few times. The shrimp tempura on the Omar roll adds the best flavor. I also tried the incredible roll (added crunchies and spicy mayo) which was also great. Things have changed. We have been regulars at this location since it opened. They continue to have good and friendly service, but food quality has gone downhill. My wife's Greg roll this evening tasted funny, like the salmon was old. And my teriyaki shicken had a weird rubbery texture...like it was frozen for too long. Don't get the chicken teriyaki or beef teriyaki. Horrible. Just horrible. The chicken quite literally taste like plastic, no flavor, the fried rice wasn't flavored at all, had no salt on it. The broccoli was not cooked at all, just raw. The beef was literally rare and inedible. Like WHAT. Got the Volcano and Dragon roll. Presentation was very nice. The flavor was 7/10. Pleas to turn down the lights went unheeded. Management reportedly had already left for night. Boxed up half eaten dinner and left after paying full price. I was hoping there would be more options without meat. The tofu isn't able to be incorporated into any other dishes than what is on the menu. The waiter suggested the tempura which just ended up seeming very oily, heavy and drowned out the veggies. They had a big sign advertising bowls and it would have been lovely if they could sub tofu for meat in one. I've always wanted to come to this location and eat inside because I've enjoyed the sushi (pickup order) but the service I just experienced, was disappointing. I entered the restaurant and sat at the bar for probably 10 mins without being greeted at all. I watched the young lady go between the kitchen and the bar numerous times without even a "hello, I'll be with you shortly". No one else was at the bar but me. The hosts had the same lack of mannerism as well. I've worked at a restaurant before and I'm pretty sure you're supposed to greet everyone that enters and at least see why they're there.
