There was about as much sauce as there was fish and you're paying just as much as any other sushi place in town. Service/food here is hit and miss. Went in one day and had great food. Next time ordered the same and was not good. I've been several times because it's near my house, but I wouldn't seek it out if I lived farther away. My kids (5&3) like the sweet and sour chicken and that makes it an easy sell for me. As far as ethnic dining goes, the Tri-Cities doesn't have the best choices, but there are a few standouts and this is one of them. They have a large menu of both Japanese (mostly sushi stuff) and Chinese cuisine. My boyfriend and I ordered a California roll, family style beancurd, coconut shrimp and veggie lo mein. Everything was really tasty and the portions were generous. I was especially surprised at how many shrimp they gave us. They have fast and friendly service. This place is definitely a step up from your typical "american-chinese" restaurant in the Tri-Cities. I know I won't be going anywhere else for local good Chinese food (except my Dad's house, heh). OH and you can't beat the prices here. I almost felt a little bad at how little my bill was so I gave them a big tip. They deserved it anyways. I can't wait to come back! read more

Don't know how to put negative stats on here, but we ordered pad thai this evening which came with an industrial sized staple in it. My wife is eight months pregnant so their answer was to take the pad thai off our bill and charge us full price for the remainder. When we leave three full dishes of food on the table and walk out maybe someone would care. Not the case here so enjoy at your own risk. First off, I want to clarify that I am reviewing their Sushi...not anything else. The rest of their food is meh. But the Sushi is pretty darn fantastic. We waited a little while, but for fresh sushi, I can handle a little bit of a wait. Actually, I prefer a wait...otherwise it reminds me of conveyor belt sushi...yuck. I have not tried their sushi but their teriyaki and Korean food have been very disappointing. They took almost a half hour making our food during a slow part of the day where there was only one other person in the restaurant with us. Coming from seattle where there's tons of Asian food options it was a bit scary moving back to tri-cities but Sakura is one of our go to places when we're craving a taste of Chinatown. The chef is very attentive to our requests, the food is always delicious, and the bathrooms are clean! I came here with some friends recently and the food was great. I'm pretty picky with sushi, but the rolls and unagi here were delicious. Unfortunately, I can only give the restaurant two stars because the service was awful. The only times we saw our server were when she took our orders and when we got our checks. My water cup was never refilled, and we had to flag her down for menus and our checks. It wasn't even busy! I was prepared to order more food, but when I tried to get her attention, she just looked at me, looked the other way and then walked away. Others at my table noticed. My jaw dropped! Food is decent.Service is beyond terrible. Three waitresses chose to serve the customers who were after us first. They have done it to us multiple times when we dined there. Enough is enough. Now we drove15 miles extra to dine at another Chinese restaurant where food is served fast with genuine appreciation of our business. In Sakura, the short, middle-aged waitress with daker skin is especially grumpy and rude.We cannot tell she hates us Chinese or hates her life. Every time I go there is always some issues. I went there a few times thinking about give them another chance since its close to my house and convenient for me but I'm done. People at the desk never smile or say hi or thank you. When I pick up my to go order they charge me full price even though it supposed to be a lunch special price. Another time I pick up my order and they only put part of it on top the counter and the rest down below so I only grab what I see and got home and found out I missing a couple more so I drove back and they said because I didn't grab it all. How would I know some of it are down below. Never have a good experience there. read more

First time going to this restaurant and I was completely turned off by the rude service. No smiles, not friendly, and just plain rude. After our food was ordered, they never came back to fill drinks or ask if we wanted anything else except to drop the bill off and return to run our credit card. The people at the table who had sushi said it was pretty good. Not excellent. I had steamed veggies and shrimp/chicken/scallop combo. Disgusting! The scallops were so fishy tasting that my husband said he could smell them. The shrimp was ok, but the chicken was dry and tough. For $11.99, I felt ripped off on my dish. I'll never go back. Why all the low reviews? First off, lets talk about Sushi. There is a very big misconception of what people think good sushi is. The tri-cities, does NOT have a "REAL," sushi joint and it would be a disgrace to call anything here authentic sushi, because it simply does not exist. Fancy rolls and all that drizzled craziness is NOT real sushi people. That's like taco bell to mexican food. Get the point? Okay so let's move on.... It is a good thing though that there at least is a place that can give you your sushi fix...and there are only two places in all of the tri-cities who can get the job done. Sakura and Sushi Ya. Period. Sakura does offer a few better quality selections in terms of sashimi, for example the sake (salmon) and maguro (tuna) is much better here and the cut is much thicker than the other place, however, when it comes to overall sushi rolls they are both about the same. I do tend to favor Sakura a little more, but not by much. If you're looking for more of a sushi bar experience, you're better off going to Sakura. On a scale from 1 - 10, with 10 being the most authentic (japan, s.korea, taiwan, and even hawaii), Sakura would rank at a 5.5 at best. Sushi Ya would rank at a 5 at best. Now on the other hand if you're looking to get some rolls and to have a good time without the need to experience the real deal, then either place will provide you just that...So for the average Joe, either one of the places will do the job for your casual sushi fix. Chinese food wise, the quality here is noticeably better than most of the worthy places here in the Tri-Cities. If you haven't eaten here yet, you should give it a shot. They do the basics very well and the quality of food is above your normal chinese take-out joint. read more

I am giving this a 4 star only because it was my first time & it was take out. When picking up the sushi the restaurant was clean with a relaxed atmosphere. Staff was very pleasant making me smile. Then I got home & the sushi was fresh & amazing. I got the sushi combo California roll with 7 pieces plus an assortment of a'la Carte fresh salmon, yellow tail, tuna & a couple others. This is one of my top favorite places in all of Tri Cities. The food is FRESH and the servings are large, service is prompt. Ive eaten in most other Asian establishments in Tri Cities and this is by far the best. Some of the best Sushi around as well. Sakura has the best sushi in the tri-cities (on par with Osaka's sushi, but Sakura's prices are better). The service is good, the atmosphere is nice, and there is a large menu with lots of choices. We have never ordered anything from Sakura that wasn't good. read more

The reviews are right. The food is OK but the service is bad. If management just took some time and fixed their customer service issues the place would be better. We ordered take out and still had bad service. When I showed up to pick up the order it took almost 10 minutes for someone to even come to the front stand. Then when they did they ignored me completely as if I wasn't there. I had to literally ask the lately to go find my order. It then took another 10 minutes to get the food. Making it almost 45 minutes from call in to actual pickup. Then to top it all off, when we got home we were missing food. At that point we were too tired of dealing with the bad service. I give this place 2 stars only because the food that we did get wasn't bad and the serving size is decent. Otherwise I'd give it a single star only. read more

I ordered some takeout a few nights ago and found a staple in my food! I couldn't believe it. I called them the next day and they were beyond rude when I told them what had happened. They didn't even apologize , the first guy I talked to said " what do you want me to do about it?" Like it was my problem or something. I asked for my money back and they kept offering me some free food which i don't want ever. Finally some other guy gave me my money back and tried to make me feel guilty about it. I'm lucky my tongue felt the staple before I chewed. I keep thinking about what could have happened if i had swallowed it. Worst service and people ever. I moved out here from Seattle a little less than a year ago, but I've lowered my standards quite a bit. This place just doesn't cut it. Right from the water all the way to the fortune cookie. We started off with an appetizer of crab rangoons, a personal favorite of mine. They tasted like they were frozen and microwaved. They were mushy and there wasn't much flavor. We then had our soups. I had wonton, still tasted microwaved, and my boyfriend had hot and spicy, which was not spicy in the least. They then brought us our food while we still hadn't finished our soups or appetizers. I ordered Shrimp in Hunan sauce and it was undercooked and I immediately felt sick after eating it. My boyfriend ordered General Tso's chicken and it was literally swimming in sauce. The waitress came by and asked if we wanted a box since we had a plate full of food and one with all of the rice (which was stone cold) and we said no. She asked if we were sure and we said it didn't taste good. She said okay and took our plates and brought a check for full price. In short, this place is nasty. The staff is unfriendly and the food is low quality and all frozen. It seriously tasted like it had all been microwaved (especially since we received all of it within five minutes of ordering). By far the best sushi in town. All other dishes are great, as well. This is our go-to Chinese/Japanese restaurant. Reasonable prices, generous portions. The lunch sushi specials are perfect in size and price, great for take out. The staff is not always incredibly warm, but they aren't rude, and provide efficient service. Atmosphere is a little lacking but that's ok with me, and we'll often call in a take out order for dinner and eat at home. They've never gotten an order wrong with us. Customer Order #9448 Order Type: PickUp ASAP 3/25/2016 Our order, 2 Shrimp eggroll, large Hot & Sour soup, Happy Family, and Double Delight with Garlic Sauce spicy. When I picked up food, after paying, the waitress/hostess said BTW we no have Shrimp Eggrolls here. I explained that I ordered online from their menu and she said, oh that old menu, not updated. We give you pork eggrolls. When I got them holm they were greasy. Yuk. The soup was delicious! If you look online, the normal recipe online it shows that a Happy Family dish is a Chinese stir fry typically made with beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, lobster or crab meat and scallops mixed with vegetables. These vegetables often include carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, baby corn, water chestnuts and bamboo shoots... Nowhere does it mention heavy thick brown horrible tasting oily mess which is what we had to throw away. We also ordered Double Delight with Spicy Garlic Sauce. This should have been a light chicken and shrimp dish, with veggies. The average sauce recipe includes: 2 tablespoons rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons granulated sugar,1 tablespoon light soy sauce, 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce, 2 teaspoons chinese rice wine, 1⁄4-1⁄2 teaspoon chili sauce (Sriracha to taste), 1⁄4 teaspoon sesame oil, 1 1⁄2 teaspoons cornstarch, 1 tablespoon water, 1 tablespoon vegetables or 1 tablespoon peanut oil, 3 -4 medium garlic cloves, finely chopped. Ours was so heavy in oil that we could not stomach it. No we will not eat here again. We wasted all of our $30 plus dollars except the $4.07 for the soup read more

Haven't been in a while but I used to love it. I went in today for a to-go lunch order of Cashew Chicken. The guy at the register was really nice and my order came up super fast - too fast really! That probably should have been my sign. I got to my office only to find I didn't get a side, that was paid for as part of the lunch special, and I did not get cashew chicken. I got a weird colored, flavorless chicken dish with peanuts on it. I'm not sure if they really think peanuts are cashews or if they screwed up someone else's order so decided to pawn it off on me knowing I probably wouldn't drive all the way back. Although Ive only been there once, i had such a good experience! Got seated quickly, took our drink order right away. The food came out at a decent time, and the portion size was huge!
