We usually frequent here often but had a horrible customer experience today and $300+ later, 1 1/2 hours of wasted time we are done with them. We ordered online off THEIR website and were given the time to pick up and confirmation. I arrived to get our food and was told by the owner that our food was not ready and they had no orders. They thought maybe our card didn't get charged so charged us there. While they were prepping our order I realized I had 3 charges from them for our order and showed the owner that they indeed charged me multiple times. She said there was nothing she could do about it because she has no orders. I showed her the website, confirmed it was theirs and their ordering online system. She said again she couldn't do anything and to call our bank. We tell her our bank isn't going to do anything because she just charged us. Instead of figuring it out she gives us the number to call from their website people (third party) who apologized profusely that the owner of restaurant didn't call themselves and confirmed that we had an online order and paid. I had the man on speaker and still the owner was not the kindest for their own mistake. I then decided I want it all cancelled out of frustration that we had been charged various of times, no food for our family in town waiting, and wasted time sitting in a restaurant with no positive outcome. When the owner let the cook know not to cook our food he gave me a lovely snarl. I understand they were cooking but again this was the most unprofessional service we've ever experienced and very sad because again, we have frequented here often. We will no longer be returning and truly hope they fix their system and maybe just remove the online ordering option overall. read more

I think they have dine in service, but i went for take out. I ordered a bento, which included chicken teriyaki, tempura, gyoza, salad, rice, and cali roll. It was pretty reasonable for the amount of food you get. I added another roll to my order because i was really hungry. The food was really good. Hot, fresh, and tasty. I was pleasantly surprised. The only thing that was a little lacking were the sushi rolls. I think they use regular rice for the rolls instead of seasoned rice. It makes a difference.. But overall, great place for take out. Very good teriyaki place. Food seems to be cooked to order most, if not all of the time. Normally a 15 minute or so wait for two entrées and a roll or two, not too bad! This is not a "restaurant" so don't expect fancy seatings. It is a little bit expensive but food portion is bigger too. Service is great and very friendly. We thought it was a mistake but girl said "it is supposed to have rice" so not sure what the name is all about. Very limited on fish options. Tuna, salmon, shrimp or fake crab is it. Rolls only, no sashimi or nigiri. Service is bleak at best but did notice full service treatment for an Asian family that came in. Seemed inappropriate to take their orders table-side while the rest of us had to walk up to the window. No beer. read more

Went to have lunch with a friend yesterday and we'd both never been to Sake Express so we decided to try it. The first problem was the floor was sticky beneath our feet. While the waitstaff were wonderful, it's a shame the place is so dirty. It's not just messy. It's actually filthy. It was clear no one sweeps the floor as under our table was littered with crumbs, plastic little cups and such. The salt and pepper shakers were covered in grime as well as the soy sauce containers. Really gross. It doesn't even matter if the food was good (it was very eh) or that the staff was great (they were). This place needs a health inspection. I have no clue what their kitchen is like, but if it's as nasty as the rest of the restaurant, I would assume it's not clean. I will never go back. read more

I realize that this is the only sushi place in the area, but I'm so confused about why this place gets high ratings. We went there as a family today and all of us were pretty dissatisfied with what we ordered. I got the phoenix burrito, which was supposed to be katsu, but was just grilled chicken. I have no idea why this place is getting bad reviews. It was absolutely umami!!! The Seattle roll was the bomb; never ever have I liked cream cheese in my sushi, but I liked this one! The smoked salmon in the roll reminds of sushi in local style sushi in HI. The combination of the spice tuna, smoked salmon and eel that complements each other and just melts in your mouth. Owners gave a complementary full size entree of general tsao chicken. I believe people in this area are so spoiled and feel entitled are only used to eating at accommodating chain restaurants. And when they want their food, they want it now, if not have an adult tantrum. The best kind of restaurant in HI were the mom and pop shops, hole in the wall eateries, a window in the wall where you order take your food and go, or where you walk up to the window, order, take a seat and wait for your food. It's no different than eating at Bruchi's or Five Guys, you order at the counter, take a seat and wait for your food. I whole heartedly support small businesses like this. I want to see more small restaurants like this thrive in the area. My family will be loyal customers from this point forward. We're so glad you moved to the area. read more
