I've driven past this place many times and had decided today was the day to enter and enjoy lunch. I brought my 4 yr old daughter with me also. The windows are pretty and the ambiance is calming. There is a small sushi bar that is excellent and the food is great! (the noodles are a bit greasy, but it's nice once in a while). What I liked the best about the service here was that they were very catering to the fact that I had a child with me. They offered a half-sized plate of food knowing that she wouldnt be able to finish it, then then offered me a half-sized plate knowing that I'd be eating my meal and helping my daughter finish hers. I'm glad to put another fairly 'upscale' place to take my four-year old, on our 'date' list. It's nice to be able to take my daughter to a nice dinner that is far from the McD's and pizza regulars. Probably my favorite sushi/Chinese place in town. Happy hour specials are crazy, all drinks are 2.75! Jungle bowl is best and biggest option, so get that to really get your moneys worth. Chinese food is half way authentic which is 200% better than anywhere else in town. Sushi is up to par with everyone else in town but not top quality by any means. The ladies who work here are the best! I come just to hang out and harass them! I'm a regular already and keep coming back for the fun and light atmosphere, which is sort of uncommon for an asian restaurant. The food is honestly hit or miss and can be a bit salty at times, but I always leave happy and enjoy bringing groups of friends to enjoy the experience. Top recommendations from my Asian fam and I include: fish in spicy soup, the black pepper beef, cumin lamb, and green beans. This is where the local Chinese families go! The food is always good. It's fresh, and homemade. Some of our favorites are wonton soup, miso soup, beef and string bean, duck, beef lo mein, steamed veggies, sweet and sour chicken (best in the area!), sesame chicken, etc. The service can be a little slow because it's all freshly made, and people sometimes think the service is rude. They aren't rude. They just aren't all "HI I'm Jen!!!! and I'll be taking care of you today blah blah blah!!!!!!!!." They are polite and quiet. We usually love going to Sakura. Tonight we went there around 5:30pm. Even though there is a sign on the door requiring masks the staff didn't stop the people before us from coming in and being seated without masks. When I said something the hostess just shrugged her shoulders. My husbands pork egg foo young was tough and came without the gravy. When the gravy finally came it was lumpy and thick. I definitely would not really recommend this place to anyone mostly because there was nothing that really wow'ed me. Peking Duck is one of my favorite dishes and somehow this place managed to convince me that you can make it dry and mostly tasteless. I do not want to continue to go into detail how utterly bland the rest of the food was (dumplings, fried rice, white rice, miso soup, sushi, Happy family). Mind you the place is not terrible in any respect but again, it did not one thing well. The service was terrible, the girls got sassy with our group and for some reason they did not have any tea pots and big bowls to hold rice (EVERY Asian restaurant has plenty of both of those). By way of context for the reader, I fancy myself as someone who would prefer authenticity over mainstream. I like local and family owned over chain. You get the point. I have to say that Sakura is by far and away the best Asian restaurant in town. (Bento, Sushi Mori, Hoang's Siagon are all good as well). But Sakura is able to consistently deliver sushi, american Chinese, as well as more authentic Chinese. In point of fact, more often than not, I want to eat here, over anyplace else. They have a delicious seafood soup (Chinese menu only). There is much contention over their sushi, it seems, but we like it quite a bit. At the very least it is on par with anyone (and after you try the Crazy Roll and Black Pearl here) you will think they offer the best sushi in town. And I mean that, this is not Seattle, or any big city, but their sushi has always been fresh, and they have a decent selection. I mean if you are eating Uni then you are a better person than I. But we do like raw fish and it's nice that not everything on their menu is cooked. Their Chinese american food is not too greasy and the quality of vegetables and meat are good. I really like their miso soup; it contains seaweed, tofu and green onion, as it should. Many local restaurants skip on seaweed or even tofu (I am talking to you Woo's). I am looking forward to exploring their "authentic" Chinese menu much more. My final comment on their food is their dumplings (pot stickers). I too find the dough too thick, which seems to me to indicate that they are home made but not to my taste. I can only WISH for Xiaolongbao! I want to set this off in case the owners read yelp. Seriously. I would love to try more diversity of bao like Xiaolongbao. Anyway, moving on to the restaurant itself. The service can be a challenge as some of them do not understand my English, but I can say my Mandarin is far, far worse. However both the man and woman at the till are always nice and they are quite accommodating of our very small child, which we appreciate. The ambiance is average, but in a newer building with plenty of space both booth and table. We really like the original art, that is for sale, on the walls. It provides a nice touch. The area they are in however, seems to be cursed with a perpetual wind storm. It can be fine everywhere in the Tri-Cities but you open their door and the wind rips everything out of your hands. When they say use the left door, they mean it. All it all, I find myself nominating Sakura as the best restaurant in town. They are a small business, obviously very hard working, and they cater to a seemingly very picky crowd that wants sushi, american Chinese, and something a bit more authentic. And they do it very well. We can bring a diverse group here and everyone always seems to find something they like and we all leave happy. read more

Upon moving to the Tri-Cities, I wasn't too thrilled with the thought of trying to find a good Chinese/Japanese restaurant, in fact during my quest I almost gave up. Then, one day while driving down Keene the clouds parted and the light from the heavens shined down onto SAKURA. The atmosphere of Sakura is relaxed, it's not pretentious or commercialized like some other well known Chinese restaurants. Their walls are adorned with art from local artists, as well as some traditional Chinese and Japanese art (one of my favorite pieces is the large Geisha on the glass near the front of the restaurant). The service is always great, they're extremely nice and eager to make your experience a good one. Their food is always fresh and delicious. I highly recommend their crab rangoons, egg drop soup, and sweet and sour chicken. Unfortunately, their fortune cookies do not live up to their name...they're proverb cookies. In fact sometimes they're demanding cookies, I had one that actually said, "Go do it." But, other than that Sakura is fabulous and delicious. read more

I've eaten here a handful of times and never really been impressed. Service tends to be hit or miss, menu is a little confusing (generic terms) and lately it's been getting pretty crowded, which I suppose is good for them. This time though, I walked away with food poisoning. Last night, my daughter, hubby and I ate there for dinner. The hubs and I split a chef special, which was a combo of sashimi, nigiri and a roll. One of the nigiri was fish eggs -- the bigger orange ones. I've tried them before and never really liked them, but I keep trying them to see if it's just a quality thing at one place compared to the next. NOPE! Hubby was smart and didn't even try them. That was a good decision. Never eating those little suckers again. Almost immediately after eating them, I knew I'd be sick. I got SEVERE FOOD POISONING. I've never experienced pain like that before. It was horrible. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but was writhing around and balling my eyes out in between trips to the restroom. Yuck!! read more

Excellent food! We've been looking for a good Japanese/Chinese restaurant close to home, and were delighted with our first experience. Everything we ordered was wonderful, and the portions were very generous (enough for dinner and lunch the next day). Prices are very reasonable and service is fast and pleasant. The crab rangoon was a crispy, tasty delight. Mongolian Beef was excellent. General Tso's Shrimp made my ears catch fire, but I'm a wimp, too. I was so excited when my Aunt told me about this wonderful sushi place she found...in the Tri-Cities! I met some family members out for lunch and as we were asking questions about various menu items the waitress mentioned their crab special. A whole crab, steamed, cut and drenched in sauce. We ordered one as an appetizer. The waitress was very concerned about our choice...questioning us about it, making very sure we wanted a WHOLE crab. We assured her we did and off she went to place our appetizer order. She came back with more questions. Apparently the chef was also concerned about our order, making sure again we knew we were ordering a WHOLE crab, that was $21.00. Yes....we wanted the WHOLE crab. Off she goes again. A third trip back to the table brings the crab...on a plate. She lets us know that this WHOLE crab is what we ordered. Confused we asked her if they would clean and cook it. She assured us that yes, they did cook and clean it. We told her that we have gone crabbing off the coast of Washington and eat WHOLE crabs on a regular basis. We sent her off again...this time she came back with a delicious, WHOLE, cooked crab in this amazing sauce. The whole thing was a bit confusing, yet mildly amusing. Then the rolls came. We split four rolls between us and they were amazing. Fresh and creative they were the perfect combination of ingredients. I can't even choose a favorite. Both the Chinese and Japanese cuisine are excellent - I live in LA and return to Richland to visit my family...and we always come to our favorite spot to indulge in a little fresh sashimi or delicious crispy peking duck! I have eaten here on several occasions, and honestly the only reason we are here tonight is because it's Christmas, and literally this was the only restaurant open. The staff was, and always has been, exceptionally rude. Throwing plates down on the table, never filling drinks, and spending most of their time talking amongst themselves. Even got a couple sighs and eyerolls when we would get their attention for something. The food is only slightly better then the terrible Chinese buffets found all over. For Christmas they should have asked for a food thermometer because the level of over cooking EVERYTHING is shocking! Just plate after plate of post apocalyptic vittles. I should have heeded the other reviews in regards to the service (or lack there of). My husband and I came here for dinner tonight It was pretty busy and I had already anticipated issues just from reading reviews online. We were seated immediately (with menus) but it probably took them about 10 minutes to come back to take the order or even ask if we wanted drinks. We already knew what we wanted (having been sitting there with plenty of time to read the menu 50 times over) so we ordered drinks and dinner. My husband's dinner came out first. I sat and waited for mine (nibbled on his)...and waited. ..and waited. Finally, after about 10 minutes with no food of my own or anyone even looking or checking with us I got up and asked a waitress to please check on my plate. She came back about 5 minutes later and said my plate would be out in another 5. It did finally come but I was so irritated by then that there was no way I could truly enjoy the meal. Oh yes, and I asked her for more rice while we were waiting and she begrudgingly agreed (ended up bringing my rice that came with my meal-so no extra rice out of their pocket). The food itself was OK. My husband's General Tsos was a lot tastier than my Sweet and Sour. Nothing to write home about. All and all I would not recommend this place after my experience tonight. read more

BEST Chinese food you can ever find in tri cities! One very important fact to know is always ask for the small Chinese menu, that's where you can find the almost close to traditional food in china, not those Americanize garbage " Chinese food" elsewhere. Find something the same value as that menu would need you to go to Seattle or further to do so. Good Chinese food for the Tri-Cities. I haven't tried ALL of the locals, but I've sampled a good range of them, and this is the best I've found yet. The standard Chinese fare is up to par. The sushi, eh... but I have tried most of the sushi places in the area, and have the same response. The service is nice, the room is an above average place to eat your wanton soup and kung pao chicken. If you're visiting from out of town, there may be better places to check out. But for those of us who need places to go in town for reasonably priced food that is PDG (pretty darn good), it's a keeper. read more

I know in my household there is often a back-and-forth debate over whether or not we should get Chinese or Japanese/Sushi. I'm not a huge sushi fan, and my partner would prefer sushi over General Tso's. Someone always had to give in or we both had to give up and get burgers instead... until we discovered Sakura! As I mentioned, I'm not a huge sushi fan... so my review is based entirely on their Chinese food and that fact that they offer a double menu that makes my house a happy house when we go out to eat. I've had their General Tso's; chicken w/ cashews and sesame chicken and their hot and sour soup. All have been great and the portions were sizable enough to leave me enough to take home a snack for later. Also not to miss.. their lunch specials that include SATURDAY! My partner and I were able to eat a feast of Chinese and sushi plus sake for under $30. Major win! read more

I'm not sure how this place got so many 1 star reviews...being a mix of Chinese and Japanese in a small town, I found the food surprisingly good. The sushi was average, not amazing but not as horrible as the super negative reviews try to make it seem. The egg roll was superb! It was crispy, crunchy and very fresh tasting inside. The hot tea tasted great, it was just the right strength to keep drinking and not feel sick after. The steamed dumpling was a little too doughy, but the meat inside was great. I would recommend getting them fried instead. Overall we had a great meal and we'll be back again when we want a good mix of Chinese and Japanese foods for dinner. read more
