Say what you want about "strip mall sushi", "hole in the wall sushi joint" etc... In the end, it's all about the sushi. When you walk in, the Ambiance is what it is, and it's not a place to go with anyone who's idea of sushi is a glam date night spot. This is a casual, no frills place to take care of the Sushi cravings. Most importantly, you will still crave it when you are done!. The sushi is spot on. It's always well made and delicious. So if you are into sushi, this is a must try! I've taken a number friends here and everyone had left Saying it's the best sushi they've had, and they all go back. I strongly suggest the hurricane roll and off menu is my personal favorite the "Angry Tomachi" it's on the spicy side but it's a must try. Go a few times and they will learn your name, learn what you like, and treat you like family. It's often not packed but they do a lot of take out. Trust me, you wont be disappointed.

This is my go to spot in the Eastlake area for sushi. The owner is usually the behind the sushi bat making rolls. They have a huge variety of fresh rolls that are good for any veteran or newbie sushi eater. I eat here at least once a month and often drive an hour to eat here unless Im in the area for business.

Wonderful little sushi place, on par with my favorite sushi place in Tampa. Everything was very fresh. Ambience was nice for a casual date night. Service was good as well. Prices are reasonable, but no weekend specials. Nice special roll options with combinations you don't see elsewhere. Highly recommend the 1960 roll.

At 6:30 on a Tuesday night, it wasn't very crowded. My favorite seats, at the bar in front of the chef, were available. The chef was very friendly and didn't mind answering a few question and making a few dietary modifications for us. The service was pretty fast, even with a single server, as there wasn't much of a crowd yet. Drinks came quickly and we were attended to perfectly. We selected a few rolls, with the help of the chef on his house specialties. I was impressed with his speed and efficiency. I was not as impressed with the accuracy of his cuts. The portions were uneven and the end pieces were fairly loose and almost too large to eat in one bite. The taste and presentation was spot-on and the fish was fresh tasting. As we were at the bar and sharing the rolls, I appreciated the rolls came out in intervals instead of all at once, so we never felt crowded at the smaller dining area. I love this place. My brother has been going here with my mamma for years and it is fantastic. When I used to live in the area or when visiting my brother and I always enjoy a meal here. Everything is always so fresh and delicious. Fran always welcomes us with a warm sincere smile and the service is excellent I cannot wait to go back. I tried taking a picture of my lunch but remembered as I was half way! It is just so good! read more

This place is similar to Jimmy's. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that they serve Sunomono, an authentic Japanese salad of cucumbers, rice vinegar, sesame oil & sesame seeds. It's a refreshing choice on a hot day! Sadly, you never see this item on most sushi restaurant menus. The sushi was very fresh and tasty. The miso soup was very good, too. The staff were very engaging & friendly. Definitely worth it. read more

This is my new favorite sushi bar. It had the best spicy tuna sashimi. Taste like tuna tartar. The food is really fresh and amazing. We ordered the Mexican rolls, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, the spicy tuna and salmon sashimi, and we ordered something called the poom roll that had krab meat on top. That was the best dish. The customer service was impeccable. You get the overall sushi experience with the hot towels and the edamame to begin with. The cold sake was good but it wasn't cold enough. read more

This place is pretty good, nice welcoming at the door. Menu is a little higher then others in some food areas, not by much. I had the spicy tuna & white fish sushi rolls, they seemed to be ok, not as neat on plate as other sushi places but not bad either. Wife had the dumplings, they were soft & not chewy. Both had salads I had 2 Sapporo beers & wife had some wine drink. We would return. read more

Im afraid to even give this place a good review because its my MOST FAVE sushi place on this side of the bay and would love to keep it a secret but just cant. This place is amazing, love the staff, owners, CLEAN, AMAZING, fresh sushi. Never disappointed. We go there every week and so glad we found this gem 2 years ago. MUST GO. You wont be disappointed. This place is GREAT! I have only been there for takeout, but every time I walk in I get greeted with the biggest smiles. They are so kind and welcoming, that they are the only local place were I will have sushi. The quality of the sushi is EXCELLENT! I'm fond of their soft-shell crab roll, and have never ever been disappointed. If you are anywhere near East Lake, give them a try. You will not be disappointed! read more

My husband and I visited here for the first time tonight & it was excellent. We had the salmon sashimi (so fresh & buttery), miso soup, seaweed salad, the XXX roll, & the No Drama roll. Everything was delicious, fresh, fantastic! I've had sushi all over the U.S., including when I lived in Los Angeles, and I can't say I've had better than Sakura Sushi. Unimpressive meal experience. Waitress was nice but food was so-so. Sushi chef kept conversation with friends at the counter but never said hello or goodbye to us. Sushi and sashimi dinner was unremarkable. Yakitori and kushiyaki tasted the same, too sweet. read more

I see soooo many great reviews, but when I came in for a lunch, everything seem to be fantastic, except no one was there. I had a couple of simple rolls and they were the worst job making sushi I had ever had!!!...they all just looked like shit! And they fell apart as soon as u tried to grab them. I won't go ever again unless someone can convince me that it was a fluke read more

This place is amazing! The staff were welcoming and friendly, even a little humorous. The sushi is out of this world good. I had the Pineapple Express and Crunchy Eel. My boyfriend had the Red Dragon and XXX. All were delicious! The garden salad and seaweed salad were also great. Best ginger dressing salad I've had in a while. Price is moderate... we paid around $60 for the two salads and four rolls (not small rolls). It's worth every penny. We will definitely make this one of our go-to's! read more

We have been looking for a good sushi place in Tampa for over 2 years now. WE FINALLY FOUND IT! The sushi quality is great -- for me, it's all about the rice; the consistency (holds together but melts in your mouth) and balance (sweetness and vinegar) are just perfect. I will say this is the best sushi place we have found! The food was amazing. They had new rolls with different combinations and had some very good sake. The owner Bill was the sushi chef and just added that aspect of personality that made the entire evening even more enjoyable. If you like sushi and haven't been to this place you have no idea what you are missing. Regardless of where you live it is well worth the drive to visit this restaurant. We've enjoyed Sakura for over 14 years. Over those years, we've tried many other sushi restaurants, but always come back to Sakura as our favorite. The Junior Roll is a great roll to start. My husband always ends with the Sumo. Whenever we bring guests, even international fine diners- they all agree their sushi ranks with the best ever. read more

The texture and flavor of the sushi rice were spot-on -- lightly seasoned and balanced, letting the fish shine. The service was excellent, but what stood out even more was the atmosphere. The place felt warm and joyful. People were laughing. A couple walked in and the chef/owner came out to shake hands and hug a regular. My server was kind and professional. It just felt good to eat there. They've officially gained a lifelong customer -- I usually eat sushi once a week when I'm not traveling. Go treat your taste buds. You won't be disappointed. P.S. The two pieces of escolar (chef's choice, my foot - cheap is more like it) were butchered like Tetris pieces. Why does it look like a croissant - for the love of Pete! The salmon maki wasn't properly rolled and was falling apart and the fish was cut improperly. The pork Katsu was okay. The other table was served frozen sashimi. What a poor performance. Service was poor. The wait time - an hour and fifteen minutes was appalling given the lack of quality and poor presentation. Thankfully, my 9 year old son and I entertained ourselves during that time, but they never brought him out his California roll. I cancelled it after we finished the bento box, but come on, what the heck, how do you not make a cali roll and not serve it to a hungry child immediately. I haven't left a 15% tip in quite some time, post pandemic, but this was beyond the pale. 1/2 star for the ambiance. It had me fooled. I don't like seeing businesses fail, but this one needs to be put out of its misery.

We didn't have any expectations, and the place is a hole in the wall, but the food was good. Their Cuban Sandwich was amazing! Perfect Cuban flavors. It was odd that the pretzels were on a small plate, but that is probably cheaper than single bags of chips. I get it. It was just unconventional. My hubby had their big sandwich and he said it was fresh and delicious and the presentation was nice too. We will certainly come back!.

Where to start?... Walked into this restaurant and was immediately greeted with warm smiles by the staff. Sat at the bar area and within 5 minutes, was given Edamame and warm towels. Drink orders were also taken at this time! Talk about efficiency! Edamame was fresh and you can tell that it was picked out carefully given its quality. Ordered the Spicy Tuna, XXX, Super Crunchy, Softshell Crab. Seriously so good that it was all gone in less than 8 minutes LOL Ordered more --- No Drama Roll, Volcano, Salmon Avocado. Coming from New York City I have experienced a wide variety of food especially that of Japanese Cuisine. Sakura Sushi has become my all time favorite sushi spot in the Tampa Bay area and even surpasses the ones I've enjoyed in NYC. Their sushi is so fresh I swear they get a new shipment in everyday. Besides the exotic and delightful sushi, they also grill up a delicious steak teriyaki amongst other items from the kitchen. From their friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere to their incredibly amazing food. Sakura sushi is hands down the best I've had and will continue to go there for years to come. read more

Went here for the first time tonight and was blown-away with their fresh sushis. I travel for my business and have been to 34 countries all over the world (including Japan). I must say that Sakura's sushis are of utmost quality. Staff is warming. Their ambience reminds me of some restaurants in Japan as well: small but inviting. INCREDIBLE, Shades of Cali :o) Went there with some friends and have to say that we were very happy we did!! Ask for the palm Harbor roll, not on the menu but WOW! Everything was OUTSTANDING; Soup, Salads, FRESH fish, and service beyond compare. Did I mention how child friendly they are? Dumb founded on the taste of the food. When the cream cheese doesn't taste fresh, that's not good. I've never not finished my sushi! I bought three rolls, ate two combined, tossed the rest. Tried their because the other place was closed today... We will not return. read more
