First off, the food here is very good, and the teppanyaki chefs are excellent. That aside, there were some problems with waitstaff, grill area cleanliness, and restroom cleanliness. As we were seated, I noticed some broken glass on the grill top and in the surrounding grill area. Having been to many teppanyaki establishments in the past, I made a mental note to closely observe how well the chef pre-cleaned the grill top. He did a great job, but it still made me nervous knowing that there were small shards of glass there. In the end, I experienced no issues and heard no complaints from the other guests. The lady that came out to take drink and food orders was rather "chilly". There wasn't so much a language barrier as there was an accent barrier. Coupled with the ambient noise of the place, it made it very difficult for some elderly guests and others to correctly place their order. Bathrooms were very messy for so early in the evening. I bit into the lemon wedge on my water and felt something funny. Pulled it out of my mouth and found a fingernail. Yup, a sizable hangnail. I do not bite my nails. I mentioned this to the waiter when he came around with our food. He apologized and took it back to show the kitchen. My date and I had both lost our appetites, so we asked for the check and some boxes. I was surprised when the check came back with the full amount charged. I'm not someone who thinks meals should be comped for things like long waits or small mix-ups, but I felt like this was definitely a case where the meal should have been comped. This place used to be amazing. My friends and I would drive past 20 sushi places to eat here. Fast forward to 2017... my friends and I came here for dinner and the place looked wrecked. The seats were peeling and the glass was dirty. Our tuna smelled awful and they told us that it was still good but it was just a specific kind of tuna, but we still sent it back. Figuring that maybe we went on a bad night we decided to try it again pretty recently. They have remodeled but the sushi and staff quality is nowhere near what it used to be 5 years ago. Sakura is a franchise business and they are well saturated in just about every corner of the United States. You get what you come for, but they really lack any kind of unique flair. I was satisfied with the chirashi, but there is really nothing much to write about. It was chirashi with miso soup and salad - end of story. This restaurant has the hibachi shows for those patrons that want to get the thrill of high grease flames, eggs hidden in the chef's cap and juggling spatulas at what not. Been there done that - just a novelty, but it goes over well with the kids. The service was good, I can't complain. Even though I was at the sushi bar, the waiter made sure my Asahi never went empty. The bathrooms and dining areas were well maintained and clean. The decor is decidedly generic with Japanese prints of squinty-eyed samurai holding on to their swords and such. Ho hum. If you want decent sushi with a Japanese style cookie-cutter experience this is your place. The prices are too high for what you get in my opinion. Don't expect much of a memorable experience from this restaurant, and with Tokyo Japanese Steak House basically across the street you get much more for about the same price. read more

Overall, I feel like their quality has been declining steadily and they haven't really been keeping this place up to it's full potential. I used to come here a lot in high school and I felt like the food was a lot better back then. --Hibachi-- For my appetizer, I'm weird and I like to get chicken livers-- which they cook with soy sauce. One dish that I do enjoy here is the teriyaki salmon steak. I always ask our cook to not overcook the fish and it usually comes out very tender and moist. As for the other choices, I don't think they are really worth it and the meats are usually dry and overdone. --Sushi-- Their sushi was never great, but now it's not even worth it. During my most recent visit here, my boyfriend and I sat at the sushi bar and ordered the spicy tuna hand roll, the spider, rainbow, and spicy salmon rolls. We really shouldn't have ordered that much food. The rice was overcooked, the rolls were poorly made, and the fish did not taste fresh. The greed of the owner outweighs the food. He will quote unrealistic times to seat tables even when his employees are trying to be honest with you. He doesn't want people to leave because of a high wait time so he lies. We ordered to go and we were quoted 50 minutes. We went to the restaurant after 40 and waited ....and waited....and waited.... Everyone we spoke to said "oh we'll check on it" or " oh it's going on the grill now it won't be much longer" we ended up waiting and watching order after order get picked up from people who ordered well after us. Our final wait time was 2 hours. There was no apology or comp given for something that was clearly extremely poorly managed. They clearly do not have the capacity to run dine in and online orders simultaneously. If they got a new owner this place would be way better. read more

We used to dine here at least twice a month before the pandemic. Now we order to go. The food is fresh, cooked perfectly, and very tasty. My wife likes the Shrimp flambé. They give you a choice of sides (Mushrooms or Chicken livers) along with Miso soup and salad ( I cheat and have them put yum yum sauce on mine instead of the house dressing). I was hesitant to try this spot because of the initial star rating being less than 4, but my wife was craving hibachi so off we went. I chose to have sushi while my wife and children had the hibachi. The waiter was great, not hovering but personable and always there when needed. The sushi was perfect and absolutely delicious. The hibachi was well cooked and our chef had a good mixture of humor and professionalism. My family and I will definitely be back for more. read more

My youngest brothers favorite place to eat, so I always seem to eat here when I visit. This hibachi restaurant is nothing special in my opinion. I have had both good and bad service here and the food is always over flavored with soy sauce. Perception is not reality when it comes to cleanliness either. After putting my arms on the table top, my shirt not only stuck but also became stained. What I ate: Steak and shrimp combo (Hibachi) The steak although small was prepared very well, cooking it to order, as asked. The shrimp were overcooked and tasted like rubber with soy sauce. The rice was dry, but after adding yum yum sauce became much better. I also ordered a side of noodles but due to the chef forgetting whose they were, I only got to try one bite due to them being dispersed across the whole table equally. When we got in the wait wasn't long and the host was sweet. However, our server Suk was the most rude individual I have probably met in my entire life. First off, she shouts at her guests AND employees like they are all imbeciles. She was even talking back to customers, not just at our table, but the tables around us. When I say talking back, I mean in the sense of being difficult when I asked her to split the bill, she rolled her eyes. She even stooped so low as to saying the "F" word under her breath as she walked away. Funny thing is that she thought we didn't hear. Now it's about to get BBB serious! At one point I was getting up to make a business call and as I'm walking from the table I see her walking into the kitchen and another server walks out with a tray and she got hit in the head. What happened next was downright abuse. She screamed at the server to the point where the server was crying for a simple mistake that was honestly Suks fault for racing into the kitchen like she's in a damn Ferrari. The guests were shocked and scared. How is Sakura going to handle a situation of this caliber? I've been to many Sakura's in my life, and this is by far my WORST experience. We were told that the service would be slower there, which was fine considering we had business to discuss. Overall, the wait wasn't very long. But the food we ordered came out looking less than appetizing. It tasted nice, but looked like it was scraped together from leftovers from one of the teppanyaki grills that were cooking up entrees for the other guests. We really liked Sakura and will return. We are very familiar with Benihana and like Sakura better. The soup and salad were delicious. I had the salmon and my husband had filet and shrimp and all were perfectly cooked. The fried rice was freshly made in the hibachi. I had the chicken liver appetizer and it was super good. I've eaten at many Hibachi restaurants. This is one of the best. They offer a couple options I've never seen before like a free appetizer (though the selection is limited) and both noodles and rice. (At other Hibachi restaurants you normally only get one or the other.) The service was very quick and the food was excellent. My wife and I both got steak and shrimp. The steak was very tender in the shrimp was flavorful. From start to finish it was an excellent meal. I will definitely be back. read more

Our chef was halfway through cooking the dinner by the time it arrived, and he didn't arrive for quite some time after being seated and having ordered. I picked up an order on Friday September 17th, 2021, I had a lot of leftovers that I planned to have the following day for dinner. As soon as I took it out of the fridge, there was a overpowering, funky smell coming from the box. To make sure, I warmed up a piece of meat and tasted a little piece and it definitely had gone bad. I called and management said that they could not do anything about it because I purchased the food the day before! So essentially, they served me meat that was already going bad, which I am sure they knew. I have never had leftovers from any restaurant go bad the very next day. Sakura has changed immensely in the last 5-8 years. They have remodeled but not well. They have changed staff which has been disappointing. In general the food quality is not what it used to be and the Shows and chefs are lackluster. I wish it was as good as it used to be, but unfortunately it's not. This place never disappoints. Everyone is friendly and I always sit at the bar to watch the sushi being made. Today I got the Minion beverage. Simply delicious! I also got salmon ceviche, a roll I forgot the name of, and a seaweed-squid salad half and half mix. So good! I crave the ceviche and that is what brought me in today. I came here on a PROM night. Enough said on how the crowds were, let alone, how long the wait would be. So I approached it with an expectation of an hour wait, and to leave to go somewhere else. Surprisingly, it was only 20 mins and was more organized than I had read in the previous reviews for this place. So my family and I stared and critiqued the fashion show in the waiting area, wondering why these kids didn't pick a restaurant out of in the city of DC (since they had a limo drop them off). Then, I figured they aren't as savvy as my husband and I were at their age. So to speak, my family and I were decked in jeans and hoodies (it was pouring) and sitted right smack in the middle of two parties of prom goers. So I wondered then, by the way we looked, we aren't as savvy as I thought we were. I even contemplated on being seated with the casual commoners on the other side but we were hungry and at this point, ready to eat. Anyhow, checking out the prices, I see that it is the same price as we would pay out in DC so these prom goers should've really went out and splurged on true gourmet. Let me tell you, the onion flavored soup was mild and watered down, the salad and the dressing left a bitter taste in your mouth and was watered down halfway through the salad. The chef was a great performer, my husband and I ordered the Lobster, Scallop and Shrimp platter, and the seafood was not overcooked -even for being grilled (hooray!). The lobster tails were cut into smaller pieces, and our scallops were huge. Overall, I had too much food on my plate, that I couldn't even find my seafood under all the veggies, rice and lo mein. The taste of it all was great. So one less stars only for steep price (in the middle of Hoodbridge!) and the soup and salad. But I truly enjoyed the lobster here better than Red Lobster who always tend to overcook my lobster. read more
