i like to give every place a try but this place wasn't it. The service was great but the water tasted metallic and when i ordered a sprite it also tasted kinda off. I normally order my sushi from here although I have not ordered from here in a while. This is the first time that I've actually eaten inside the restaurant The restaurant in itself doesn't seem to be the cleanest I did not use the restroom so I cannot speak on that. I ordered a Gingerale, which tasted flat The dipping sauce that came with the spring rolls, and the Gyoza was what I thought would be a spicy mayo And it used to be pretty tasty But this time around it was not It just tasted like straight mayonnaise with spices And it was served really cold like they had just taken it out of the refrigerator The shrimp tempura roll was good. It tasted normal. I didn't find the Boston roll as good as it used to be. This was the first time I had the mango girl roll, and it will definitely be the last. It didn't taste rotten but you definitely did not taste mango. This is still our favorite sushi place in the NOVA area. It's a mom and pop atmosphere with amazing sushi. At peak times the service can become overwhelmed but folks stick it out because the sushi is so good and fresh. Our favorite is the shrimp tempura roll and crunch crab mountain. All their sashimi is fresh and you won't go wrong with the salmon. Also, have the hot sake (forget adding extra flavors) it is excellent with the nigiri style. Family nearby loves this place, selected for special dinner. Super fresh fish, pleasant staff. Lovely interior, we got carry out, served multiple kids and adults. Everybody super happy with everything :) ! We ordered chicken Teriyaki (kids loved this and the sweet potato roll) and edamame. The Lake Ridge area does not have a lot of sushi options. We've ordered from here quite a few times and they've always been pretty decent. It's quick, it's convenient, and we've never had a bad experience until recently. I ordered takeout from here on Saturday and got a tuna roll and spicy crab roll. I got home and ate my tuna roll and it was good as usual. I took a bite of my crab roll and had to immediately spit it out because it tasted rotten. I thought maybe it was just the cream cheese, so I tried that and it tasted fine. I tried the crab and determine it was the crab that was spoiled and spit it back out. I looked at the clock and it was past their closing time so I was unable to give them a call and then had a busy Easter Sunday, and they are closed on Monday which led me to calling them today (Tuesday) I ended up giving them a call today to notify them that I ordered from them Saturday and that my crab tasted spoiled when I ate it and that I was unable to call them that night because they were closed. They asked me if I had proof, and of course I don't. They asked me ok well is there something you are requesting? I said I guess not I just want to notify you that what I had was definitely spoiled, and if you still have that batch of crab it needs to be tossed. They said they throw out all of their ingredients every night and fresh ingredients are used in the morning, and that basically ended the call. I was a little taken back from the conversation and lack of apology from their end. While I guess they did ask what I wanted, I was surprised on how they asked it instead of asking what they could do to make it right, or offering a partial refund for that roll. I think we'll likely be taking a little break from sushi in this house since this is the really the only option within 20 mins of our house. I'm giving them 3 stars because other experiences with them have been good. This one just left a bad taste in my mouth...literally :( read more

Ambiance was meh. I went with my daughter for lunch on a Saturday and it was pretty empty. Which is not a bad thing but the restaurant felt a little old and dingy. We ordered a couple appetizers and I think the presentation could have been better. The chicken gyoza definitely tasted like they were from a frozen box. We ordered 3 different rolls. They were all okay. I don't think I will be returning. Service was decent, the waitress could have checked back a little more often. Honestly, a mediocre experience. Walked in on a Tuesday afternoon, i seemed to be the sole customer. You have to walk through a dark and shuttered bar area to get to the main restaurant. I was greeted and seated promptly though. I initially tried to order the Hibachi Steak, but was told it would take 40 mins. to make (a fact that I feel should have been written in the menu). I opted for the steak and shrimp bento instead. It took a little longer than I think it should have, especially since I was the only one there. The box itself was so-so; not the worst bento box I've had, but def not the best. The teriyaki sauce was odd, broccoli was off, there was WAY too much rice in my box, and I felt the California Roll was overloaded with avocado. The miso soup was also on the watery side. It was okay. I think it was more of a 3.5 but because the place was dark and it took forever to get our food, I am rating it less than a 4 star. The service was average when we walked in and they gave us a huge glass of water. I didn't like how the guests didn't get a default salad and miso. You had to order one of the entrees to get it. Most sushi places just auto give it when the guest orders the sushi. So I started out with the salad that had the spicy salmon. My friend ordered the sashimi entree and a special roll. The food took forever to come out!! That was probably the most annoying part. This would have been fine if they were busy but they weren't busy at all. There was only one other guest there at the time. We placed our orders in quickly and waited so long. When we finally got our food, it was pretty good! I liked the salad, but my biggest complaint is the fact that since the salad was waiting for the sashimi entree, it got soggy and I didn't really like it. If it had been served on the side or if it were fresh, I would have liked it more. The Special Roll costed way more than I thought it should. I don't think I would come back because their prices aren't that good and the sushi is just okay. The environment is just okay as well. read more

Let me start of by saying this place can do so much better if they would actually listen to the customers requests and pay closer attention to the quality of food they're putting out. I ordered Edamame, spicy salmon roll, California B roll, and the spicy dream roll with extra WASABI for the rolls. When my order arrived I was everything but pleased. The salmon roll had several hard pieces that were not edible, the avocado in the California roll was slimy and there was no ginger or wasabi sauce. I called the restaurant and the lady who answered the phone was not phased and her only response was "ok". I ended up discarding the order because I was not going to get sick off of whatever was making the bottom of the rolls slimy. If I am ever in the mood for sushi this place would definitely be crossed off the list. read more

Disappointing. Living close by I was looking to find a new hibachi spot. Ariang is the closest Japanese restaurant to my house and I go here mostly out of convenience. They have a huge selection of maki rolls and have a chalkboard by the door with the daily creations. I have sampled most of what they have to offer and have never been disappointed with the food. But Ariang seems to me like a business that is about to fold. The hours have been reduced to only a couple hours for lunch and evening happy hour to close. They are closed on Mondays. Service is hit or miss depending on who is working at the time. Only half of the establishment is being used as there never seems to be anyone ordering from the hibachi. The chef-show is on the expensive side, but I have seen other restaurants acheive success (i.e. Tokyo Japanese Restaurant near Potomac Mills). If this place was run seven days with good service I would give it four stars because the food is actually pretty good. But as it is, I can only reward them with three. read more

Easily the worst miso soup I've ever had, and how do you mess up miso soup anyway? Food is usually decent. Recently they have gotten really skimpy with their food and their menu isn't updated. The vegetables in their vegetable tempura were cut thinner than a potato chip and their vegetable tempura that says on their menu comes with vegetables now only comes with 4 shrimp and no vegetables.... But they charge the same price. Service is always slow. I think they must be hurting for money, but I think if the service was better , how they presented their food , and if they didn't try to cut down your food portion so much it would be a good place to eat.
