Sala Thai used to be our go-to Thai restaurant, but our recent experiences have been disappointing. Over the past year, we've seen a noticeable decline in quality. Despite our hopes for improvement, we gave it another chance by dining there three times in the last two months, only to find each visit worse than the previous one. It's become consistently inconsistent, which ultimately translates to a poor dining experience. Here's a breakdown of our recent visits: 1. Satay Chicken: The chicken was disappointingly dry and so tough that we struggled to remove it from the skewer. It seemed pre-cooked and left out all day, resembling more of a chicken jerky on a stick. 2. Pad See Ew: This dish was drowning in a dark brown, overly salty soy sauce, overpowering every other flavor. The chicken was rubbery and lacked any taste beyond salt and soy sauce. 3. Drunken Noodles: Surprisingly, this dish appeared to be virtually identical to the Pad See Ew in both taste and quality. It felt like we were served the same dish twice. 4. Chow Mein: This dish was missing the essential egg component and was soaked in grease, with rubbery chicken adding to our disappointment. 5. Pink Soup: What should have been a flavorful soup turned out to be nothing more than pink-colored water, with the chicken tasting rubbery, pre-cooked and overly salted. 6. Panang Curry: The flavors of the Panang Curry were unfortunately overpowered by an excessive amount of bell pepper and salt. Again, rubber chicken. While we're not typically ones to complain about food, the decline in Sala Thai's quality has become too noticeable to ignore. We genuinely hope that Sala Thai can find its balance and improve in the near future. However, in the meantime, we'll be on the lookout for a new Thai restaurant to satisfy our cravings for authentic Thai cuisine. read more

Let me first say that I am completely biased. We live right around the corner from Sala Thai and have been going there for 6 or 7 years. Although now, after we have had kids, we do a bit more take out than dining in. Sala Thai is defintely my favorite Thai restuarant in the Valley. I typically start out with their Tom Kra Gai (Coconut Milk Soup) that with a "3" level spice is plenty spicey (personally, I would probably go up to a four, but I tend to get vetoed on that level of spice). Next, we have their Pad Thai. Although, I have certainly had better, it definitely scratches that Pad Thai itch. Finally, I typically get their Pa-nang curry (typically chicken). This is my favorite dish and I usually use the left over rice to sop up the remaining sauce at the bottom of the to go container! read more

The location and atmosphere were promising, as was the open kitchen and friendly staff. Initially it felt like we were dining in Thailand (or it was like watching an episode of No Reservations). I actually found most of the food to be bland and flavorless, apart from the Pad Thai, which was just too darn sweet. The mussaman curry with beef could have used some spice, or even just some salt. The fried spring roll appetizer was perfect, but it took quite a while for the staff to take our entree order. In a city where we don't have the wide selection of "good" ethnic cuisine, Sala Thai is a wonderful surprise. I wondered in for lunch today to find the place full. I did not expect that from the unassuming exterior. I had the green curry with chicken and I must say it was the best I have had in Phoenix. Remodeled a while ago and added a nice bar seating area(No Alcohol served here, BUT you can bring your own for a corking fee) And they can really make it spicy. Add rice to cut the heat if its too hot. Salmon Pineapple is always good. Duck is my Fav! But all curries are top notch. read more

It has come to my attention after a very bad case of stomach cramps that Sala Thai has recently (april 2008) lost their health department permit to operate due to repeated critical violations. It astonishes and disappoints me to find that they reorganized and re-opened 1 day later with a new ALMOST clean bill of health. read more

It felt cozy and authentic. This is not an all-you-can-eat restaurant. We ordered the Small Beef Combo, 2 side of rice, Korean dumplings, and the strawberry basil lemonade. The only unlimited items are the traditional Korean side dishes. We were served five different banchan along with two salads. While they didn't bring every available side dish, the ones we received were actually very good. Unfortunately, the service is what ruined the experience for me. Our server, Huy, was also serving my friends' family seated at the table next to us. They had ordered the same Small Beef Combo. When Huy started grilling our brisket, he accidentally dropped one of our slices of meat onto the floor. He paused, clearly noticed it, and so did everyone at our table. However, there was no apology, no acknowledgment, and no offer to replace the piece. He simply continued cooking as if nothing had happened. A few moments later, he placed a Prime Ribeye on our grill. I told him we hadn't ordered that cut--it belonged to my friends' table. He then picked up the entire plate of raw ribeye from our grill and transferred it to their table. Even though they were our friends sitting right next to us, that didn't seem like proper food handling. When I mentioned the mix-up, he simply said the kitchen had made a mistake. Again, there was no apology. Toward the end of the meal, it seemed like Huy realized I was unhappy, but he never addressed either incident. The missing piece of brisket wasn't a significant financial loss, and the food itself was good. My disappointment was with the service. Mistakes happen in every restaurant. What matters is acknowledging them, apologizing, and making a reasonable effort to make things right. A simple apology and replacing the dropped piece of meat would have completely changed my impression. Because of the service, I don't plan on returning, which is unfortunate because the food and atmosphere were otherwise enjoyable.

As much as I have enjoyed eating at Bluewater in the past, that's how little I enjoyed eating there…read morelast nite. Everything about the experience felt like an orchestrated play. Our wait person was the same one we had previously. Her mood was Just pleasant enough to pass the pleasantry test but with a dose of " if I have to be nice to one more idiot..." simmering just below the surface. The food was "fine". My trout almandine had large chunks of nuts overpowering the fish. A different way of serving a dish that usually has a nice crispy delicate coating. This was like a lumberjack was coming to dinner and they wanted him full. Wonderful warm sourdough bread. Fresh, perfect green beans with scalloped potatoes that tasted as if they had been reheated from some earlier conception date. The bread pudding dessert was a nicely done finale but that was soured by our request for some decaf to go o with it. Our waitress said she would be happy to make some. I lifted my expectations momentarily at the thought of a nice fresh cup of steaming coffee accompanying the dessert. She came back two minutes later to deposit two mugs at our table. I thought, "wow, how do you brew pot that fast?" And then I tasted it and I knew. This coffee had been sitting on the burner for at least a few hours. Most of us know that specific taste. Which also means, since she said they didn't have any decaf made...that this was caffeinated. A double whammy for that time a of night. Sad to say, I had nothing last nite that would persuade me to negotiate a parking lot full of gym goers so that you have to park 10 min away,in the heat, for only so-so food served less than graciously.

And Yelp always gives a helping hand when this cravings get the best of me. So I found this gem. Great atmosphere. Great customer service. And a lovely place to enjoy a well cooked meal. I will for sure be back again Royal Pho! Thank you!!!!

I was particularly confused when our waiter Aleena came over was so amazing, got our order knocked out to care of us gave us everything we needed, was kind and professional ... But then the owner started screaming at her? It was awful, the poor girl was nearly in tears, and my girlfriend had to go to the bathroom to vomit, after seeing the exchange. They both were holding back tears and I was ready to fling me plate at the guy Personally I've never been more furious, and felt like correcting a store owner. The nerve! Btw, our order was missing the egg.... AN EGG!! I asked for on the side, that I forgot about once our food came out. ... And I think an appetizer, came a little later?? My girlfriend and I came here for the first time, I've driven by this restaurant many times, and never had a chance to stop by this is the first time that I've was able to go in. As for the food quality.... I got the shaken beef, and the onions and peppers were undercooked ... My girlfriends meal was terrible. We got a vermicelli rice bowl, with grilled beef that looked like day old shrivelled up pork that has been boiled, no grilled. It was pale even . The appetizers, we're ok, the potstickers were burnt and overly chewy. Also the calimari was pitiful... I think they put six small pieces on our plate, and it cost $10 Normally I don't go so scorched Earth on food quality, but if your standards are so high for your employees that you're willing to scream at them in front of the clientele, the food better be five star. Unfortunately I can think of at least five other restaurants in the area that can do much better from the food perspective, and they don't yell at their employees. The servers were doing their absolute best, they kept our waters refilled they cared for our every need, and they even gave me a fresh viatnemese coffee to take home! Btw if you like Vietnamese coffee, I highly recommend the restaurant, just leave after ordering. Aleena made the coffee and it was DELICIOUS, it reminds me of some authentic spots I love to visit when I'm in Seattle. She was fantastic and saved this from being a 2 or 1 star review

The flank is so much more tender than most places. I know that I reviewed this place before and I don't understand why it wasn't there, but this place needs credit. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and made great recommendations* Great portions and quality for the price* The restaurant was busy both times we visited, which tells you everything you need to know One small suggestion: Turn up the AC! With Phoenix summer temperatures in full force, the dining room felt a little warm and could have been more comfortable. Overall, this place absolutely lives up to the hype. The food is fresh, the flavors are incredible, and the crowds prove it's a local favorite. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out. We'll definitely be back!
