Hidden gem! FOOD: I had a wonderful drunken noodle dish. The noodles were unlike anything I have ever had. They were fresh and thick cut. Sala Thai is a good Thai restaurant in Rancho Cordova (off Zinfandel) with a very quiet and peaceful atmosphere. I have been here twice for lunch on the weekend and both times, it was not very busy. We were able to get a table right away. Although it wasn't too busy, service was a bit slow to start. The workers were in the back mostly and it was hard to flag someone down when I wanted to request something. Previously, I've ordered the Duck Curry, which I thought was okay. There wasn't too much duck and the curry was not bad. I wanted to try a different dish next time. On my most recent visit, I ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice, which was really good! It came with large shrimp and chicken, which were really nice. I loved the pineapple chunks and the flavor of the rice dish. I also tried the Green Curry with chicken and the curry was really tasty. There was some inconsistency with their dishes. One time I tried the Garlic Lover with chicken and it was outstanding. Another time, I tried the same dish, and it must not have been cooked right because it lacked flavor. I ordered the Thai coffee and did NOT like it. I probably should have gotten the Thai Tea. Overall, my experiences at Sala Thai were not bad. The food was some hit and some miss. The service was sometimes good and sometimes a bit slow. The Pad Thai was great. I asked for extra sauce. Yum. The green curry was very tasty. It is in and industrial looking shopping center with a bunch of other restaurants but nice and easy access on the end corner building. The lady working was very pleasant. Had a good dinner here on a Saturday night. Was seated quickly and the peaceful, dim lighting created a relaxing ambiance. Went to eat at Sala Thai again today and it was delicious! We haven't been here in a long time. We go here 3 or 4 times a year. I always order the cucumber salad; it is sweet and sour and the cucumbers are crunchy good. Tip: The cucumber salad is not listed under "salads", but is listed under side dishes ($3.99). There are a lot of items on the menu. I don't like really spicy food, so I'm careful to check the heat level. That being said, you can ask for a "mild" spicy level on many of the dishes. One of the dishes I enjoy is the "Garlic Lover", which is garlic and black pepper served over steamed vegetables ($14.50). I have been happy with every dish that I have had from this restaurant over the years. The only complaint I have had is that on a few different occasions, the vegetables have been a bit sloppily chopped and left in large pieces, so maybe a bit more attention to food prep would be nice. The servers are friendly and welcoming. The inside is pleasant with nice decor, but the seats are worn and should be replaced. So although we come here and enjoy it, I would be hesitant to bring others here just for that reason. Doesn't give a very good impression. read more

Went here for lunch a couple times when I had to be in Rancho Cordova for training. The good thing was that the service was super quick and the food was pretty good. I had the chili basil chicken on one day, and the red curry on the next, and both items were great, and the chili basil dish (or was it the spicy basil? The only reason why I'm giving this four stars is cause there's a couple things I think that they could've done better on. I have lived next to this restaurant for years and had yet to try it mostly because it always looks dark and like there's nobody in there but today, I thought I would give it a try. I was craving some good spring rolls. The spring rolls were pretty good and fresh. They were not wrapped properly so the shrimp kept falling out and it looked like the shrimp was cut in half but it was still very tasteful with the sauce that it came with. I also had the lunch special pad Thai, which was 1199 on a scale of 1-10 I gave it about a 7only because I asked for extra beans, sprouts and for extra cilantro I expected it to be cooked into the pad Thai unfortunately it was brought out on the side like it would if I ordered still thought it was pretty tasteful. I added some dry pepper to it and some lime. The reason for the four stars is because even though the place was nice inside, the service was not so great. The people were not talkative and seem like they were bothered if you tried to ask them for anything, but I will be back to try other stuff on the menu. Also they charged me an extra $1 for bean sprouts that probably cost .15 cents and n extra $1 for 3 lil branches of cilantro probably worth .5 cents $2 bucks may not seem like a bite deal and it's probably not but let ur customers know you will be charging extra !! ended up spend $35 on 2 items read more

I went to this restaurant for lunch by myself and ordered Pad Thai. The food was good but it was a bit soggy for me. If they can reduce the sauce then it would be perfect. There was no wait since it's lunch and during weekday. The interior design is special which bring up some kind of vintage vibe. I haven't tried other food so I am not sure about them. But so far, would recommend if you come here for Pad Thai and, if possible, ask them to reduce the sauce a bit. I came from Southern California where there are more Asian foods so maybe that's why I have a bit higher expectation, but I think overall this restaurant is still very good. read more

I almost missed this place because it looked closed. I wonder how many others did the same? I am super glad I do not. The place is gorgeous inside with a unique hand craved Dragon. The service, take out, was friendly and knowledgeable for my first visit. I had the Duck Curry and it was delicious and has a unique flavor that excites the senses. And the quantity was perfect. Now I poured mine over sticky rice. I normally only get steam rice but wanted to venture a little bit. Definitely worth the try, for me, I will stick to steam rice (no pun intended). The fresh rolls were heavenly, light and refreshing. The best I have ever had. And the peanut sauce was incredible. Do your taste buds a favor, and yourself, and try this place. It's worth it. Friday, 5/19/2023 - Tried Sala Thai restaurant for the 1st time. Address is 3101 Zinfandel Dr, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670. This restaurant is located just right across from Lowes, Chili's, Starbucks, on the same side. Walking distance. Upon arrival: Pros 1) large parking lot with plenty of spaces to park in. 2) restaurant is small but cute. 3) we got seated right away for lunch. 4) our server was nice. 5) their mild spicy is pretty spicey in their food dishes. So be prepared. Unless you are used to eating spicey spicey, then this may be perfect for you. But for those of us who only eat black pepper spicey, it's pretty hot. I asked them to make mine as less spicey as possible. No spice is even better. It still came out with a pretty good spicy kick. But I liked it. 6) all of our food dishes were still pretty good. 7) love the Cucumber Salad. A little on the sweeter side. But still good. 8) water tasted great. No funky or metal taste. They don't refill water for you. However, there is a table with a few jars of ice water. I got a jar and fill our water cups myself. 9) the seated us in a darker area by the bathroom. 10) tables, chairs, utensils, cups, plates, bowls were all clean. Cons 1) some of the dishes we pretty spicey for my friends. I eat spicey foods and it was pretty spicey for me too. But my dish was prefect. Had just enough spice kick and I can still taste the flavor. Conclusion Not a bad little Thai restaurant. Pretty cute. Servers were nice. Cashier was nice. Foods were good. I usually don't write off a place but I will have to monitor the reviews to see if they made significant changes in order to give this place another try. Parking is ample and free. It is a cute set up. Booths seem to have seen better days. We were greeted and seated right away. Customer service was good. Prices are reasonable. Most of the time when I go to a Thai restaurant for the 1st time my go-to order is Tom Kha soup and Pad Thai. It is usually a safe bet. I did find both of this dishes a disappointment. The soup itself was so sweet I could hardly eat it. The pad Thai was made with thin noodles, it was over cooked so it turned into starchy mush when I tried to eat it. The egg that was part of the dish was a egg placed to the side which I usually have the egg mixed into the dish. The tofu was room temp, tough and flavorless. The flavor of the pad thai was off as well. I had almost 2 full plates of food at the end. Our nice server did ask if we wanted to-go containers and we politely declined. She asked if something was wrong. I hesitated to say something but I did end up telling her it wasn't good. I tried to describe the pad Thai but I am not sure if she understood what I meant. We did pay for the dishes and tipped of course. I hope that they figure out whatever is going on as I love Thai food. read more

Thai restaurant in Rancho Cordova had rat droppings, pink slime Sala Thai, 3101 Zinfandel Drive, Suite 148, in Rancho Cordova, had 12 violations on Wednesday, Aug. 27. Inspectors shut down the Thai restaurant in Rancho Cordova aftering finding approximately 50 rat droppings below the water heater in the back of the kitchen and about 15 to 25 droppings throughout the corners of the cook's line, the front counter in the lobby and the back of dry storage area. "Pink slime" was on the ice machine baffle, the report said. Three 5-gallon containers of protein lacked covers and a mesh bag of onions was stored directly on the floor inside the walk-in refrigerator. Multiple areas were in need of cleaning, including on and below the cooking equipment on the cook's line and inside the true freezer by the walk-in refrigerator. Pots of red and green curry on a metal shelf by the deep fryer measured outside of the temperature range considered safe. Other "potentially hazardous food" items inside the walk-in refrigerator measured at unsafe temperatures, including brown rice, ground pork, bean sprouts and chicken satay. Sala Thai Restaurant had yet to be reinspected as of Thursday, Aug. 28. The Bee called Sala Thai Restaurant on Thursday afternoon but was unable to reach a spokesperson for comment. read more

The Pad Thai had an unappealing flavor not like any other pad Thai I've ever had and all of the noodles were stuck together. The fried rice was bland and some of the rice was a bit over cooked. They come with peanut and sweet chili sauces. The fried tofu wasn't good. Fried tofu should be hot and fresh. This was cold (not even warm) and leathery. It reminded me of French fries that have been sitting out for a few hours. I ate a couple pieces and threw the rest away. My hubby said the pad Thai was WAAAY to salty. He had to mix it with the white rice to cut the salt and only ate half of it. I tried a bite myself and honestly don't know how he ate as much as he did. I order the eggplant tofu here almost every week--it's definitely one of the best in Sacramento! Occasionally, the quality isn't as consistent as usual, but overall it's delicious and I'd highly recommend giving it a try. read more
