I really wanted to like this place. The service is always kind. The food is generally quite fresh and generous portions. The first half dozen times I came, was during 2020 and 2021 and they did not allow anyone inside beyond a tiny 3'x3' space at the far door. Take out only. I recall my review mentioned service time quoted wrong and inconsistent spice level. Well, those two were problematic tonight. I didn't ask and wasn't told how long food would be. Shortly after placing my order a group of young people walked in like they owned the place and sat at a long table that had dishes added to it as they were coming in. My food took 30+ minutes. The Tom kha seafood... I think the seafood may have been frozen and re-thawed a couple of times as it had a strange combination of textures within a piece of meat and pieces were very chewy. The spiciness, asked for medium but not too hot, like mild-medium. My liquidy yellow curry chicken was barely mild. The soup, was just sweet. Tbe rice was abundant but soggy/clumpy. The inside is absolutely lovely. I took tons of pictures for my first visit inside. I was told most was imported from Thailand. I believe it. This place has comfortable seating, gorgeous Thai decor and courteous servers. I feel where things fell short were the rice itself, which was undercooked, lack of rice fragrance, and super mushy. Bad tasting rice completely ruined the curry dish. The restaurant should invest in sourcing better rice in my opinion. The pad kee Mao was underwhelming and overly seasoned in sweetness. Maybe I asked for mild spice which might have threw off the balance of the flavors? I did like the tom kha (coconut soup) and that was probably the best dish out of the whole meal. This place seems to attract older clientele such as retirees. And that will be the kind of energy to expect when dining there. Amazing! I was craving Thai food and stumbled upon this place! The interior is decorated in an amazing way that really lights up the Thai culture and cuisine! The staff speak Thai and English and are some of the friendliest people I've met! The food (the most important) came out in a very timely manner and was good portion sizes. We were in town to get my car's tires rotated and I was craving Thai food. It's been a hot minute since I've had Thai food and Takieng caught my eye quickly while browsing for local Thai restaurants. I was drawn to the beautiful decor, the lovely plates, and the cozy atmosphere. Takieng is tucked away in an older strip mall and has an unassuming exterior, but once you step inside, it is a whole different experience. I haven't seen such amazing decor at a Thai restaurant in a while and they even had some beautiful collectibles and a dining set in a glass case by the front! We were seated quickly. There were only a few individuals dining in, since it was after the lunch rush. It was a nice quiet day and we felt relaxed dining here. We were already eyeing the lunch specials, and I decided on the pineapple curry while my husband decided on the Thai chow mein. I also ordered a Thai iced tea (I always have to try the Thai iced tea when I visit new-to-me Thai restaurants). I liked that it came unmixed (since I always like to see how much milk they put in the drink and mix it myself). It was the perfect strength as well! We were given large glasses of water almost immediately, and our waitress was very attentive to refilling our waters. She topped our glasses off quite often. Our food arrived pretty quickly. First to the table were our soups and salads, which were simple yet good. The mushroom in my soup was undercooked (but I am also used to cooking my mushrooms until they are soft). Regardless, both the soup and salad were a good portion size. Shortly after, our lunch specials arrived, and both dishes were sooo flavorful! I loved the kick of spice that my pineapple curry had, and the garlic was prominent in my husband's Thai chow mein. My husband gave me most of his small ball of rice since I felt that I didn't have enough rice for my curry. We left full and satiated, and I took the rest of my Thai tea to go. Takieng is one of the Thai restaurants that I'd highly recommend and while we don't frequent this area often, I'd definitely make a trip to go back and try their other dishes! read more

I didn't know what to eat all day. But I found this place was really close to my house and the pictures looked good so I came to try it out. The service is great the food came out very fast. I got the tom yum soup that's always my go to, it was good. She gave me some spices to make it spicier. But it's fine just the way it was. An I tried pad Thai for the first time. It's very sweet but good. I had the combo with shrimp and chicken and tofu but I just noticed I got literally one shrimp. Haha it's okay. Great spot and atmosphere is beautiful. read more

I went out for dinner with my boyfriend and we loved everything! It's in a great location and the service was so attentive and friendly. We had Thai iced tea, calamari, beef and basil, and some noodles. Ended the night with some dessert- fried bananas with coconut cream and it was sooo tasty. 10/10 loved everything. read more

This is a regular place I order food to go; sometimes pickup or delivery. Food is always fresh and piping hot. Large portions, everything tastes delicious and seasoned well. You can choose your spice level (even no spice at all ). The staff is always friendly and efficient. When I order, it is ready before the posted time. I typically order the potstickers, steamed (nice they have this option- most places are only fried); pad see ew, pad thai, chicken satay. I have ordered many other dishes and everything is really good. Even though I have not dined in. It has a welcoming and relaxing ambiance when I go to pick up my order. Highly recommend! read more

We went on a hunt for a different thai spot, we found this hidden spot in fair oaks. We were greeted with smiles and sat down in a beautiful oasis full of amazing sculptures and traditional decor. The food was impressive, it actually had amazing unique flavors. Definitely try the Thai basil you won't be disappointed! Red Curry (6 / 10): The red curry is similar priced to other red curry in the bay area, and it wasn't as good as most Red Curry in the Bay Area Takieng Combination (5 / 10): It was a good combination of a few of the appetizer, but I didn't like the friend vegetables that much. In addition, the Egg Roll and Spring Rolls are average. Pumpkin Curry (7.5 / 10): The Pumpkin Curry was pretty good; pretty similar quality to other Pumpkin Curry I had in the bay area. I wouldn't go out of my way to get this Pumpkin Curry. Mango Stick Rice (8.5 / 10): It was surprising good. They mixed the stick rice with some condensed milk. While staying at a different hotel during my visit I came across Takieng Thai Cuisine on my way home from the grocery store and I'm glad that I gave them a try without looking at their reviews or their menu. Tucked away in a small strip mall the restaurant doesn't stick out like a sore thumb but I had no problems locating this hidden little gem. I ordered the Larb Chicken Salad and the Red Curry with Tofu plus a side order of their rice. I waited less than 15 minutes for my food and was on my way. By the time I got back to my hotel room I was pleasantly surprised at how much food they have given which was enough to feed an army. I started with the larb salad which was delicious with the variety of different ingredients including lettuce, red onion and cilantro and the well balanced chilis and lemon juice. The dish had a nice kick to it and I was delighted by my choice. The red curry dish didn't disappoint either and I loved the taste of all the fresh vegetables and the sliced bamboo shoots. 5 stars for reasonably priced and tasty food and friendly service. Walked out. We were sat on a side they usually keep closed. We waited for 20 minutes, no one bothered to come get our drink order. One of the waitresses brought an appetizer to another table. Made eye contact with me, and then walked away. Walked up to the register to return the menus and explained we were leaving since no one wants to help us. Never knew this places existed. The authentic decor inside makes you forget where you are. Went in for lunch and shared the appetizer platter. It had chicken skewers, fried shrimp, vegetable spring rolls and vegetable tempura. It was all good. The peanut dipping sauce and the sweet dipping sauce was a nice touch. This place has some very cool artifacts and art to look at and experience. I caught myself just walking around the restaurant to appreciate it all :) The service is great, everyone has a smile and is so helpful! We ordered the Spicy Beef Salad and BBQ Chicken. I ordered an extra order of Beef for the salad and a side of rice for the chicken. Everything was pretty much okay, my 4 stars is because the meat was cooked unevenly with some pieces overcooked and some under and chewy. The BBQ chicken says it comes with vegetables but it's just a bed of lettuce and random sweet and sour sauce. For $15, I thought it could at least come with rice.. I just have to up the star rating to five for Takieng when the food here is so consistently fantastic and every single time I try another Thai place I am underwhelmed and wondering why I didn't just go here in the first place. And it's just not the Thai in and around Sacramento that keeps letting me down either. Recently I was taken to lunch at a different Thai place (rhymes with Shmoconut) and even though I was enthralled in a conversation with my dining companion, with every bite of blandness I kept wondering why I wasn't eating at Takieng more. My go-to favorites are the pad see ew and pad kee mow. They know what vegan means here, happily accommodate, and the flavor is never lacking. They also have adjusted the spice levels to where if I'm not sharing I can get 'hot' and be satisfied with the spice, or if I'm sharing I can go 'medium' and then add in more from their spice condiments available on request. The service is always friendly and prompt and the restaurant is tastefully decorated so it's not a hole in the wall even though it's in a quiet little shopping center. I am thrilled they survived the pandemic. I go out of my way to have Thai food here so it's 5 well-deserved stars for me. read more

Solid Thai food in Fair Oaks with a great lunch special selection and healthy portions! Flavors are great and their ingredients feel fresh and well picked. Noodle and curry dishes are always a favorite of the family. We haven't dined in yet (usually takeaway for lunch/dinner), but the ambiance is family friendly and cozy. Plenty of adjacent parking. We didn't order much food since it was around 4pm and we weren't that hungry after lunch but we enjoyed the chicken pad see ew and pork pad kee mao. Also the mango sticky rice has a lovely presentation and delicious as well! The portions were on the slightly smaller end for ~$15 a plate but not unreasonable. I went back on the advice of a friend and ordered some new dishes. Wow! What a difference eating it fresh versus DoorDash makes. Also being out of the pandemic helps. There was a group and we had a few starters. I don't know what two of them were called. The third was larb. We had it extra sour and it was so good. The one with crispy noodles and a tamarind sauce was on point too. I had the drunken noodles with pork. They were so good and flavorful. So much better than my DoorDash experience. The service was good and the place was nicely laid out. There were a few big parties but the layout prevented the noise from traveling. All six of us had no issues hearing each other. read more

The restaurant was expensive though, and the portions weren't very big. Would I eat there again? Sure The food was OK but I don't believe I'd go out of my way considering the prices and the food was just all right. my tofu pads you wasn't that great however, my tofu pumpkin curry was better The pumpkin was good. Takieng Thai Cuisine is located at a shopping center on San Juan near Winding Way. The decor is beautiful and they offer a great variety of food on their menu. We tried the Tom Yum soup (chicken, galanga, keffir lime leaves, mushroom, tomatoes, chili paste, cilantro, green onion in a hot and sour lime soup broth), Pad Kra-Prao (bell peppers, zucchini, green beans, carrots, tofu, and Thai basil in a spicy garlic chili sauce), and Pad Kee-Mao (aka Drunken Noodle, stir fried flat rice noodles with chili, green onion, bean sprouts, bell peppers, Thai basil, tofu, in a spicy garlic chili sauce).
