Nice sushi restaurant off Zinfandel Dr. I came here for lunch on a weekday and it was not too busy, but service was a little slow. Although she was nice, it took awhile for the waitress to come and take our order. I ordered the North Star roll, which had shrimp tempura, crab, and avocado on the inside, and plenty of fish on the outside, drizzled in sauces. It was pretty good. Impressively, the Phoenix roll came out on fire! It was pretty tasty too. I tried a bit of the Tiger roll, which was not bad. I also tried a piece of the Korean style BBQ short ribs, which was alright. Not the best, but not bad. The restaurant was pretty casual and the decor was simple. Gave this place a shot since it was down the street from where we needed to be, and we had some time to kill. When we walked in, the place seemed a bit light on customers, and we were politely informed that the food might take longer than usual due to understaffing. We weren't necessarily in a rush, so we proceeded with ordering. To start, we had the Melting Albacore. It sounded similar to a dish we've had at another restaurant, so we just had to get it to compare. The presentation wasn't great. The daikon looked like it was just slapped on the plate with the sauce. Perhaps sauce in a ramekin on the side could help clean up the presentation. The fish quality was alright, and the crab mix was decent. It felt like maybe the sauce was actively there to cover up where some parts of the dish were lacking. Not a terrible dish overall, but I think it needs better execution. The two rolls we got were the North Star and Aspen. Both decent rolls, but the Aspen really shined (ironic given the other name) with punchier flavors from the lemon and jalapeños. Also, the torch helped to make all the flavors more cohesive. The North Star brought in a better assortment of fish, but similar to the Melting Albacore dish, I wasn't a huge fan of the fish quality. Will I come back here? Probably not, but I do have to give it to our server. She was so amicable that it was hard to really have a negative thought about the dining experience at the time. A friend suggested we try out Sora Sushi. She has been here before and since I haven't she figured I would like it. I love sushi so I was completely down to try out a new sushi spot. We arrive and we walk in and I notice the restaurant is completely empty. I started to wonder if this place was good? But, I was like whatever I'll try it. We walk in and are immediately greeted and told we could sit anywhere we like. The waitress brings us water and menus. The waitress was friendly and gave us time to order. I ended up ordering a vegan roll and a Philly roll with hot tea and a Sopporo. My friend order edamame and a veggie roll as well. My tea comes first and then our beer and food. My goodness the Philly roll was so fresh and delicious the salmon was fresh and not the smoked stuff. The star however was the veggie roll the avocado and cucumber were so refreshing. Sora is located in a plaza with plenty of food options. I'd imagine this area can get busy. We ordered: Stuffed jalapeños Phoenix Nova Full house Baked salmon Stuffed jalapeños were just okay. When it said stuffed, I thought it was going to be a whole jalapeño. Instead it was a halved jalapeño. Probably would order this again. Nova, full house, and baked salmon came on a circular wooden board. Loved the display. Phoenix was on fire and continued for almost 2 minutes. Loved the presentation of it all. The service is great, but the food is just subpar. I've been a couple times now when I'm in the area and I may still visit in the future, but I never leave feeling like I had amazing sushi. They have a peaceful environment and many options on their menu though. My husband tried the chicken katsu (pictured) and he's not sure he'd get it again himself. Again, simply because the food is just okay and nothing that makes you want to go back for more. This is my go to spot for good quality sushi. I always order the pepperfin, which comes over their ponzu sauce that hits the spot every single time. I'm also a big fan of their BBQ albacore, but I always ask them not to overcook it, and when they get it right, it's perfect. My usual order includes three rolls: Nova, Phoenix Kuma, and Spicy Paula. The rolls are fresh, flavorful, and never disappoint. I typically do takeout, but my only complaint is that when I place an order for pickup (usually an hour in advance), I almost always end up waiting another 20 minutes once I arrive for it to be finished and packed. This was easily the worst sushi I have ever been served. I previously worked as a sushi restaurant supervisor and have eaten sushi extensively, including in Tokyo, so I don't say this lightly. I visited on a weekend afternoon and was the only customer in the restaurant, with just one chef and one server present. I ordered a torched roll. I could hear the torch being applied for several seconds, and when the plate arrived the rice was literally blackened and crunchy from being burned. The albacore on top was stiff and overcooked, the sauce was excessive, and the shrimp tempura inside was soggy. Every component was mishandled -- from ingredient freshness to execution -- and after two bites I felt sick and could not continue eating it. I considered asking for a replacement, but the chef left the restaurant immediately after serving the dish. The server was polite and understanding when I explained I couldn't eat the food, and I left without ordering anything else. I have given this restaurant multiple chances and this was the final one. With several other sushi restaurants nearby, I strongly recommend choosing elsewhere. read more

I go there for casual dates, lunch and dinner, but I could see it dressed up for prom/valentines etc if they chose to go that way (white or black linen) biggest complaint, get rid of the TVs... this is not a sports bar. Summary: Great food, but an identity crissis. Really bad location (visibility). Update Dec 2025: I think they changed owners (help wanted signs and new B/W menu with no photos). Last time I was there the food really suffered. Baked clams were tough and over cooked; My "date" picked the rice off the roll to get the protein. Their sushi rolls are definitely some of the best, freshest, unique, and most affordable I've had in the area with plenty of toppings and filling inside each one. While they have classics like cherry blossom or dragon, we went for some special ones. We tried the Nova, Polar Express, and Spicy Paula and liked them in that order. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive and during the Olympic season, they have TVs showing the games. There are plenty of tables and their dishware is also really unique! read more

Today was my first time that I tried the food along with some of my friends from work at Sora Sushi in Rancho Cordova. All I have to say in 3 words is GREAT food, GREAT service, and GREAT ownership hospitality!! We were immediately greeted by the owner Sun who was the friendliest person you would ever meet and immediately became excited to hear that we were there celebrate a birthday and that it was the first time for some of us. The variety of sushi rolls that we ordered were packed with flavor as we enjoyed every bite. At the end of our meal, we were surprised with a special dessert made with fresh orange slices and whip cream as well as a slice of birthday cheesecake and chocolate moon pie as we sang to the birthday girl. Sashimi and nigiri is just a grade above your supermarket sushi, some whole foods probably have even fresher fish. Sub par, low quality ingredients, super hot inside (they're probably saving on AC). CA Roll and a few nigiri were pretty much poor preparation and low quality. If you like sauce drenched rolls where you can't make out if the ingredients are actually good and fresh, then it's probably ok. If you order nigiri or sashimi - absolute NO. CA Roll was kind of dry, they don't have real crab for it, and avocado was one of those super unripe ones that tasted firm and like grass. No thanks. read more

Miso soup was good. Shrimp tempura and calamari tasted like old oil -yuck! It's the first time I've ever left tempura anything on my plate. The Kuma roll and Vegetable Tempura rolls were good. The Eileen Supreme roll was overly-sauced to the max and totally disappointing, half was left not eaten. The absolute worst was the Zig Zag hand roll which had brown colored guacamole and virtually no fried crab. On the whole, the food was underwhelming. The service was a bit overly attentive to the point it felt intrusive. It was a Sunday evening and the place was mostly empty. It is also presented nicely and the sushi doesn't fall apart like at some places. They have a fairly large menu and lots of options, which is nice. Always door dashed this place so we decided to finally try it in person. Quick fast service. The employees were very friendly and polite! Food was full of flavor! I wasn't expecting it on a wood block so that was a nice surprise. As for ambiance I thought the seats in the middle seemed too close together but it's not so bad because of the barrier. My first time coming to pick up my order, the service given to me was amazing! I forgot my wallet & they had alternatives for me to pay. I knocked off a star because supposedly soup doesn't come with your to-go order. I had to go back & request for it. My 2nd time I made sure to ask when placing my order. Nonetheless, the 2nd time I came for the same order it was $5 more expensive. I sent my boyfriend to pick up my order & not sure why it was more expensive this time.. I was craving for sushi so we decided to check this place out as my sister briefly mentioned it one day. We came in at around 7:30pm and it was not super busy at all. Since it was my first time here, I asked our server if she had any suggestions and she told me that the Phoenix roll was one of her favorites. We ended up ordering that roll along with the cherry blossom sub with cucumber wrap, Sora's sashimi and a chicken teriyaki rice plate. We also ordered some sake, but unfortunately they were out of the one we wanted. Brandon notified us and brought out the 2 they did have available. We asked for his suggestion to which he suggested the Kigen. The Kigen was really good. Smooth to the taste and definitely paired nicely with our sushi. The phoenix roll was great and it had a nice charred taste to it. Definitely a roll I would order again. The sashimi especially the salmon was my favorite and you can tell it was super fresh and of high quality as it melted it my mouth. 5 stars for their customer service as it can't be beat! Not only did our server checked on us, Brandon did as well and another server who walked by to help another table also asked if we needed anything else. What made it even better was that as we were getting ready to head out, Brandon walked over to us and handed us another bottle of Kigen to take home since we liked it so much.
