A friend suggested we try out Sora Sushi. She has been here before and since I haven't she figured I would like it. I love sushi so I was completely down to try out a new sushi spot. We arrive and we walk in and I notice the restaurant is completely empty. I started to wonder if this place was good? But, I was like whatever I'll try it. We walk in and are immediately greeted and told we could sit anywhere we like. The waitress brings us water and menus. The waitress was friendly and gave us time to order. I ended up ordering a vegan roll and a Philly roll with hot tea and a Sopporo. My friend order edamame and a veggie roll as well. My tea comes first and then our beer and food. My goodness the Philly roll was so fresh and delicious the salmon was fresh and not the smoked stuff. The star however was the veggie roll the avocado and cucumber were so refreshing. At the end of our meal we were fine complimentary slices a watermelon it's was super sweet and tasty. I will definitely be back for sure. :)

This is our go to lunch spot for sushi!! Always quick and friendly service -- always fresh fish and never overly crowded which makes it a great space for lunch meetings!! quiet and easy going spot!! Plus they have multiple ways you can pay!!

Was in the mood for sushi and to my surprise I had plenty of choices to choose from that were close to the hotel. A couple even walking distance. Sora is located in a plaza with plenty of food options. I'd imagine this area can get busy. We ordered: Stuffed jalapeños Phoenix Nova Full house Baked salmon Stuffed jalapeños were just okay. When it said stuffed, I thought it was going to be a whole jalapeño. Instead it was a halved jalapeño. Probably would order this again. Nova, full house, and baked salmon came on a circular wooden board. Loved the display. Phoenix was on fire and continued for almost 2 minutes. Loved the presentation of it all. All the rolls tasted great and fresh. Service was wonderful and attentive. I had to split the tab for a work expense report and had no problem doing so.

The service is great, but the food is just subpar. I've been a couple times now when I'm in the area and I may still visit in the future, but I never leave feeling like I had amazing sushi. They have a peaceful environment and many options on their menu though. My husband tried the chicken katsu (pictured) and he's not sure he'd get it again himself. Again, simply because the food is just okay and nothing that makes you want to go back for more. I will say I enjoyed their miso most of all, but it's very very salty (so if that's not your thing.. don't get it).

A superb sushi restaurant located in a small strip mall. Their sushi rolls are definitely some of the best, freshest, unique, and most affordable I've had in the area with plenty of toppings and filling inside each one. While they have classics like cherry blossom or dragon, we went for some special ones. We tried the Nova, Polar Express, and Spicy Paula and liked them in that order. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive and during the Olympic season, they have TVs showing the games. There are plenty of tables and their dishware is also really unique!

Food is amazing, staff and owners is amazing, and a very handsome man hooked us up with a free pitcher of Sapporo! Will definitely be returning frequently.

    Special treat

Today was my first time that I tried the food along with some of my friends from work at Sora Sushi in Rancho Cordova. All I have to say in 3 words is GREAT food, GREAT service, and GREAT ownership hospitality!! We were immediately greeted by the owner Sun who was the friendliest person you would ever meet and immediately became excited to hear that we were there celebrate a birthday and that it was the first time for some of us. The variety of sushi rolls that we ordered were packed with flavor as we enjoyed every bite. At the end of our meal, we were surprised with a special dessert made with fresh orange slices and whip cream as well as a slice of birthday cheesecake and chocolate moon pie as we sang to the birthday girl. Between the friendly staff, nicely decorated ambiance and the amazing food, this was a fantastic experience. Nice meeting you Sun and thank you Sora Sushi. I will definitely be back!! Kevin

    Three rolls here. All excellent!

Ask the Community - Sora Sushi

Are dogs allowed on the patio?

Do they allow outdoor seating during covid?

Yes, they do have outdoor seating at the patio. But not a very big area. No reservations too!

    Do you offer AYCE sushi?

No they do not. They serve much higher quality sushi than an ayce place. Their pricing is reasonable.

Is there a happy hour menu someone can post?

Hi! I can't attach a picture here, unfortunately. But I updated my review to show the Happy Hour Menu!! Hope it helps! (The Garlic Edamame, Gyoza, and Cherry Blossom are AMAZING)

This place used to be Nemo Sushi, does it have the same owner?

Yes, this place used to be Nemo Sushi. It's a new owner that runs the restaurant with his family.

Finally a nice sushi place a hop and skip away from my neighborhood!!!…read more We've come here plenty of times and each time has been great. The fish is extremely fresh and every selection is really good! My kiddos love their rolls and Bento boxes, and I love their pepperfin, albacore on fire, large sashimi mix, and their agadashi tofu! We come here pretty often being it's so close to home! We enjoy the service, the ambiance, and everything in between!

Come noon, and checking my ETA to Los Angeles already pushed back to 21:00 PM, I decided to drive my rig in town to get something to eat before making that 10 hour drive down south. And I settled for Wabune Sushi in the Raleys Grocery Store plaza. So onto the review: I ordered a ton of food, and even wrote everything down on paper for the newbie server. Hamachi Kama: felt it wasnt Krispy or charred enough. 3.5/5 Volcano Mushrooms: wasn't what I was expecting, it was just a bunch of shrooms, battered up with some cream cheese 2.5/5 **would skip ordering this Douglas Roll: wasn't anything worth remembering, as in typing this an hour 1/2 later, I cannot recall what was in the Douglas Roll besides red sauce and spicy tuna, shrimp tempura....so it must have been a mediocre roll 3/5 Chirashi Bowl: was ok, sashimi was fresh, but nothing along the levels of Sushi Gen in Little Tokyo Los Angeles 4/5 Uni: I want to allege after finishing both Uni Nigiri that this wasn't the freshest, because of the complex after taste, it was somewhat bitter with a fishy aftertaste and the coloring was a bit dark. If you ever go to a Mitsuwas or Marukai or Nijiya and look for that shining glistening gold packaged air-imprted Uni...yeah. You'll know what I mean. Totally different. 3 2.5/5 Amaebi: Corral Sweet Shrimp Raw Nigiri: probably the only shining star or the 4/5 *Although I suggest next time removing the heads of the shrimp and steeping them with Miso soup for an additional layer of presentation, it would give the Miso soup more Umami And what else am I missing.....yes the Oysters at Market Price ($16.00) Ok aside from the fact the restaurant operators couldn't really name where the oysters were from...I'm assuming it's frozen oysters...I wanted to give this starter a higher score, but Everytime I slurp, I get fragments of the Oyster shells in my mouth, and honestly, I find the oysters that you can get at Wholefoods market Alot of times better quality and taste (being better quality oysters are sweeter and have less of that Seafood aftertaste. So unfortunately I have to give this order a 2.5/5 even though I finished it because the ponzu and chilli sauces they used really masked the natural tastes of the oyster. Mochi Green Tea Ice Cream: Skip. This is just supermarket mochi ice cream, you can pick up better at Sprouts or Wholefoods. 3/5

The chicken katsu is still one of the best I've had--light, crispy, and perfectly crunchy on the outside, with juicy, tender chicken inside. Every visit has been consistently delicious, and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. I also tried the spicy pork again. It's a bit different from the Korean spicy pork I'm used to. Instead of the pork being marinated so the flavor is deeply infused, it seems to be grilled first and then coated with the sauce. While it's not the traditional style I expected, it's still flavorful and worth trying if you're open to a different take on the dish. In addition the chicken gangjeong dish that requires it to be "deep fried chicken" needs additional time to get crunchy like you would expect. I think the sauce may have made the crunch disappear. The consistency in both the food and the service is what keeps bringing me back. I'm looking forward to working my way through the rest of the menu. Other: -plenty of parking -bathroom inside -on hot days it's a little warm in the restuaruant *local family business*

I will preface my review by saying I hate to leave bad reviews. Restaurant business ownership can…read morebe hard enough but when a review is truly necessary, good or bad, it should be left and this is one of those situations. I will start with the good and reason for 2 stars and not 1. The food was good. The salmon was well cooked (not dry/overcooked as many Japanese restaurants can be guilty of) and the rolls were all prepared very well by the chefs. Now for the negative. A lot of Rancho restaurants are not packed at night so it's not a reflection of this place that it was empty upon entry. I'm just referencing that to emphasize there wasnt an excuse for what I'm about to explain. Our small group of 4 adults and 2 kids were seated and greeted upon entry. Drink orders were taken and we were told chopsticks and forks would be brought (they never were). We placed our order before the party of about 10 came in and placed theres and that's when the wheels fell off. The rolls came out promptly, however, the three bento boxes and soup didn't. We waited and waited and waited. 30+ minutes go by and nothing. Finally one of the bento boxes comes after probably 45 out but the server started to give it to the other party. We had to quickly flag the server down to tell him it was ours. More time starts to pass and our remaining 2 bento boxes still haven't come. We see our bento boxes get placed down on the counter where they sat. The server took them to the kitchen and didn't reappear with them until moments later when he promptly gave them to the other party. Before we could flag him down AGAIN, the two members of the other party started digging in (despite one of them telling us outside that his friend knew it wasn't his but didn't want to wait any longer). So now it's been over 45 minutes and while our whole party is basically finished with their food, two of us still have nothing. Here's where it gets worse... We flag down our server, who hadn't checked on us thinking he might recognize, "hey, you don't have your food. That doesn't seem right." Nope. When we ask if our food is coming, he said the kitchen screwed him up and he could only bring out food as fast as they make it. We then tell him we are pretty sure he gave our food to the other table, he looked flustered and said he would check. The stand in sushi chef (very nice guy) came by to apologize and try to alleviate the blame from the server to him. Very kind of him but not true. The server then twice brought us the other party's food, but we did the right thing and said, no, that's not ours. Eventually 1 bento box came out but not the 2nd. When I asked if it was coming, they all looked shocked as in "uh oh, it happened again." I told them to cancel the order because we didn't have another hour to wait for food. The server then brought out the miso soup ordered at the beginning of the night. But wait, there's more. The bill finally comes and what do we see, an automatic 18% gratuity has been applied. I get it, the menu says parties of 6 or more. But in a fubar case like this, I think it's fair to leave that up to the party. The fill in chef adjusted the bill to remove the automatic gratuity to leave it up to us after I asked for such. He again apologized profusely despite it not being his fault. After the server brought our checks back and said sorry, he asked if there was anything else that was missed that we needed. I couldn't tell if that was rhetorical or if he was asking something he wanted to ask two hours prior. Either way, we said no, paid, and got up to leave. Now for the cherry on top. There are two doors. One in the middle of the restaurant with a sign on the OUTSIDE saying to use the other door but nothing on the inside saying it's an emergency exit or broken, etc and a door by the host stand. We watched two people exit out of the door in the middle of the restaurant and since it was closest, we exited out that door. As one of the children in our party was exiting, the metal blinds crashed down on her, cutting her collar bone skin. As we checked on her, the chef said not to worry about the blinds but no one checked on the child. He then promptly closed the door. W....t....f. As we stood outside wondering what just happened, we were approached by a gentleman from the other dining party. He then said, "Was that not the most horrendous experience you've ever had?" We then commiserated for a few minutes, him telling us about the wrong orders at their table and listening to our experience while we told him they ate our bento boxes and we had to cancel one of our orders. Truly a night to forget but a truly good bad story. It's experiences like this that make you wonder if you're on Punk'd. Long story short, food is good, service is horrible. Find somewhere else to go.

Before tip, it's about $40/pp. You best believe we ordered a lot! Our server was kind, attentive, and efficient. She came over right away and took our drink and appetizer orders. I ordered about half of the listed appetizers. Favorites were the shrimp and veggie tempura and the shrimp fried rice. Miso soup served a good hot temperature with seaweed and tofu and not too salty. Good start with edamame and seaweed salad. We ordered most of the teriyaki proteins. Great char on the chicken and the beef was so tender. We asked for mixed sashimi plate. The presentation was disappointing (very plain) and so was the taste. Didn't look or taste the freshest. The hamachi and salmon yama were both nicely fried with crispy skin. Maybe a bit overdone, but was still good. The sea steak salad was very fresh, thinly cut, and had a kick. Another favorite! We also had their dim sum, the shrimp har gow being the best. Soft shell crab tasted like burnt oil. The fried banana for dessert would've been better but was over fried. I suggest ordering fried items early. Ice cream was Melona bars on a stick and our server said they also had mochi ice cream, not on the menu. Oh, and they were out of oysters. Service was friendly and very on point since I came during the quiet mid-afternoon period. The relatively small restaurant in a strip mall is unassuming but welcoming. Richard was busy hanging some banners when I arrived, adding to the ambiance. He is extremely proud of the freshness and quality of his fish as well as the reasonable price point of his offerings, and rightfully so. I enjoyed some hamachi toro nigiri and it was incredibly fresh and delicious. Then I got one of my all-time favorites, the Hole in One roll. He readily made some substitutions to personalize my roll, which I truly appreciated. Lastly, I had the Drops, which I liken to dessert sushi. Sweet and so satisfying. I can't get back here soon enough. Highly recommend that you get here soon, too. Tell Richard, "Pam sent me!"

However, my recent visit was ruined by an incredibly disappointing server experience. My husband, child, and I dined there today. While it was a bit busy, it wasn't overwhelmingly so. Unlike the fantastic service I've received from other servers in the past, this server was truly awful. She seemed to actively avoid our table, and when she did interact with us, it was dismissive and rude. She brought our waters & my three-year-old daughter a glass cup instead of a plastic one, and when I requested a plastic cup, she slammed it on the table without a word. She completely ignored our "thank yous," even when my daughter politely thanked her. However, she was sweet and attentive to other tables in her section. We had to ask another server for water refills and kids' chopsticks because our server was nowhere to be found and never checked on us or our meal to ask if it was good or if we even need anything. NOTHING. I'm usually a generous tipper, often leaving over $20, but this server did not earn a cent from me. Lastly, she sent me to pay next to the bar while other people had their checks at the table. So much more happened but these were the main points that irritable me the Most. While I'll definitely be back for the incredible food, if I encounter this particular server again, I will absolutely be requesting a different one. Her attitude was unforgettable, and it completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable family meal on a Saturday night.

Daniel and Rebecca have consistently been friendly, attentive, and welcoming, even when we are not seated in their sections. On separate occasions, both have shown genuine compassion, care, and a strong sense of community. Most recently, Rebecca made a meaningful impact on our family by praying with us for a loved one going through serious health challenges. Tonight, she remembered us and was genuinely happy to hear that prayers had been answered. Daniel also noticed when we needed a little extra attention and stepped in right away. We also appreciate Alex, who always helps make sure everyone is taken care of, and Andrew, whose creativity always shows in the beautiful and delicious rolls. It means a lot to have a restaurant nearby that not only serves amazing food, but truly cares about its customers and community. Highly recommend!

They have a lot of gluten free options so it's great for those with ceilac! Anyways, the food was very yummy . If you don't like sushi and were forced to come for whatever reason, they do have beef and chicken. Overall, I had a very good experience and hope to come back one day. Arigato, Mikuni!

We had to circle the parking lot and wait for someone to leave. Parking spaces are also very small. We came on Friday night around 5pm and it was about a 15 minute wait for a table of two. They text you when your table is ready. Didn't really like that the tables are seated so close to each other. We could hear the whole conversation of the table next to us. It's also loud and couldn't hold a conversation so I wouldn't come here for a date night. We were told sushi rolls were a 30 minute wait but it didn't take that long. Sushi rolls were yummy as usual! We normally frequent the Elk Grove location and will likely stick to that one just because it's easier parking and never crazy loud inside.

The 3 pc sake sashimi that came in the bento was not that good...thin, lame cuts. Unimpressive. So the second time, I ordered the large 15 piece sashimi bowl for dinner. It came with 4 pieces of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and 3 pieces of albacore. The cuts were much better...larger, thicker, and better parts of the fish. The type of tuna was ordinary and to me, not that enjoyable. I liked the salmon and yellowtail much more. The albacore was okay. The large 15 pc sashimi bowl came with miso soup and salad, which were good. It would be better with a small bowl of rice. I also tried the deluxe bento with Korean BBQ ribs. I enjoyed the ribs and felt their cooked food might be better than raw. The staff were really nice and polite. They brought out items we requested, and never rushed us. Great customer service. The restaurant is large with plenty of seating for big and small groups. They had some weekly specials and a happy hour menu (4-6pm), but nothing on the happy hour menu appealed to me. There's also a sushi bar counter where you can sit and watch sports on the tv. Nice casual atmosphere. Soho Sushi is a Good Japanese restaurant in Rancho Cordova.
