Hmmm I think a lot of the reviews are hung up on the prices but I think they are pretty on par with these type of places (which there are very few of in the area). A large salad with chicken was $10.95. Everything was made to order and was tasty and fresh. The restaurant itself is really cute. It's looks like a shack with rocking chairs in front and a spot to sit outside in back. Order at the front and grab your food and take a seat. Service was friendly and my salad was made very quick. Overall 3.5 stars but I'm rounding up. I'll be stopping here more often on my way home from Seven Presidents park. read more

Ok so went to this place because the menu looked good. Food was decent when we got it, everything seemed fresh although chicken was overcooked, better than undercoooked. Heres my problem, and i understand not everyone would be bothered by this. A customer was eating inside the restaurant with a dog on their lap. Why? Gross. Keep the dog outside. Even weirder a woman (who im guessing was the owner) walks in with a full grown german shepard and the dog starts getting the other customers dog all worked up now they are barking at each other and we are sitting there looking at each other like why the f are there animals inside this place 3 feet from where the wide open kitchen is? She took the dog out back where there are tables, then 3 times while we are trying to eat she walks in with the german shepard following her to the soda machine where im guessing she is filling a cup with water to bring out for the dog? I dont know but where im from you dont have dogs walking in and out of a food place or sitting on peoples laps in the restaurant. Granted it was a hot day out but maybe keep your dogs home instead of bringing them into an eating establishment.im sure its against health codes. Now this is my personal gripe,i know some people will share ice cream cones with their dogs and let them lick their tongues all up in their mouths and what not but, it just was a turn off seeing dogs in the place. Attention all local lunchers ! This place has gone steadily down hill. Prices are high, delivery is SLOW, and food is amungst the worst quality I've had in quite some time. Today was the icing on the cake, I ordered a grilled chicken wrap with bacon & here was the breakdown : 1. I think the grilled chicken was cooked last month, it was so dry it nearly got lodged in my throat. 2. The tomato's were last weeks leftovers, super slimy and the skin was starting to peel off. 3. Multiple pieces of the lettuce were wilted and brown. 4. Bacon.... What bacon it was almost non existent and it was bits not even full strips ! 5. First time here and we ate in. Lots of tables inside and they have a patio outside for warm weather dining. You order at the counter. Suggestion when you walk in they have menus at the counter to your left. I saw many take one and check off what they wanted which makes it easier to order quickly if there is a line. I had the shrimp Shack which had a salsa on it that I thought wasn't fresh tasting, really didn't like how the tomatoes tasted in it. I liked the seasoning on the shrimp. Everything else in my salad was very good. Order the dressing on the side. My friend had the chicken Caesar wrap which was very good but they thought it needed extra dressing. Compared to Panera bread....this place is more expensive and you get less. Two of us are here today.....For same price 3 of us are at Panera with soup, comparable meals for $1 more. Salad shack used to be my favorite place to get a salad in my area. Unfortunately the establishment is not what it used to be. In the past couple of times I've ordered from there, various items on the menu have been unavailable and ingredients I paid additional costs for were forgotten and not included in my meals (mozzarella, avocado, etc.). We stumbled upon this gem after leaving the beach. Absolutely loved it! They have outside seating which was perfect. Great service and amazing food. I'm not a salad person but I had the Southwest Shack with blackened chicken and it was unbelievably good! Their cilantro dressing was the best I've ever had. I'm pretty torn by salad shack. I have had pretty good experiences here, like last night and I have had terrible experiences multiple times. So I'll merge my overall interaction. Like anywhere service is luck of the draw sometimes. Last night I was welcomed and helped by a smiling, happy associate who made suggestions and was polite as can be. Several times the exact opposite was true, which kept me away for a bit. I had the turkey, bacon, lettuce, avocado salad and my wife had one wife apples and blue cheese. We both enjoyed our meal, the flavors were good and it was a perfectly acceptable meal. The dining room was empty and no one else came in in to 45 minutes we were there. It was very cold I thought which I don't usually think, so my wife was freezing. The place is sadly overpriced. I tried to rationalize it being like Panera with decent size salads, but, the more I thought about it, the more I realized this places sells itself as a step up from Panera and that is only true in its prices. $30 for 2 people sounds more like a decent restaurant or at least reasonable entrees at a good diner. This place is so good! I've ordered lunch here twice and both times my orders were ready in under 10 minutes. Not to mention both times I've gone there, the staff is SO kind and warm and welcoming. And as a bonus, the pup they have in the back is so cute!!! First time I got food, I ordered an Asian shack salad but as a wrap. It was so delicious and filling and huge! Easily could've lasted me two meals. Got a serving of fries too and they gave me so much and then some! Second time I went I ordered a regular Asian salad and small Turkey chili. The salad was soooo fresh and half of it filled me up. They put so much grilled chicken on top and the chicken is seasoned perfectly and tasted delicious. The chili was huge and filled to the brim - even for a small. Definitely got my moneys worth both times. I would say the food is very comparable to Salad Works. It's good for a salad shop. I was impressed by the seating and that there is nice outdoor seating available but on a hot day it feels very stuffy inside here. If you're really into salads you won't be impressed but I would definitely come back but wouldn't go out of my way. Food was fresh and I love how their menu is setup. Visited a grade school buddy that I hadn't seen in years today at his beach house in Oceanport. We only had a few hours to catch up, so we ordered lunch from Salad Shack and brought it home. I didn't see the whole restaurant, assuming there is one, but the pickup area is not even close to the size of a shack. It's more like the size of an elevator. No big deal as we were only picking the order up. Everything was bagged and ready when we arrived, which was probably less than 20 minutes after we initially called. Very nice. My buddy had the buffalo chicken salad which he seemed to enjoy, despite some Yelpers complaints about the chicken being inedible. Not so, at least not today. Continuing my not-so-strict veggie/vegan thing, I ordered the Veggie Shack Wheat Wrap: grilled squash, peppers, onions, fresh mozz, and mixed greens, lightly dressed with cucumber-wasabi. Pretty good, except for some pickled cauliflower that found its way into the wrap. (Cauliflower is my kryptonite.) Salad Shack also boasts a fresh juice bar, so I figured, why not wash down veggies with more veggies? I picked out the 20-ounce "Green Machine" made with spinach, parsley, and apple. The apple made it a little too sweet for my taste, but it was fine nonetheless. I generally prefer keeping veggies and fruit separated like church and state. You'd be amazed how sweet green leafy vegetables are on their own when you juice them. Salad Shack is certainly not the best I have ever had, but it was fine in a pinch today. This magical place is simply another over priced, over hyped way to cash in on peoples "health" and fool them into thinking it's amazing. The veggies were nothing more than you'd find in your grocery store salad bar or salad works. Chicken was dry, not freshly prepared and LOADED with salt. The dressing was average, but for god sakes, this is not vodka... easy on the hand with that stuff. I imagine my journey to the "most amazing salad place ever" cost me the same calories as a cheeseburger and much more that a chipotle chicken salad. AND THE PRICE!?!?! I just DON'T get it???? (Tip: they also have rocking chairs outside and a nice open green courtyard in the back). Food: Full disclosure- I only had their shakes so I can't speak for their salads or wraps. The shake (Bailey Shake Down) was bland and didn't taste good, although it was refreshing. The veggies for the salad does look fresh and appetizing, although I never tried them. I don't really understand all of the negative reviews for this place. I've been ordering from here recently and I've been extremely happy. The "greek shack" salad is awesome. And the trick is to order your salad dressing "mixed in" rather than having them place it on the side. The side of dressing just isn't enough, but when they mix the dressing in, it is just perfect. I'm very happy with Salad Shack and will continue to be a patron of the establishment. No complaints from me. read more

When they were called about this and talked to "The Manager" who was on site 8-5-19 in the afternoon, we were told to "Next time, don't order from the kids section." And this I'm my case as probably case with many -- hurts them. I've only ever eaten here once (got take out a summer or 2 ago & when it was under the previous owners, got the veggie chili which was great), and didn't leave a review then but definitely feel I need to now. After stopping in for lunch with my mom on 1/25, we were left very impressed and satisfied! We both ordered the Apple Shack salad and were surprised when the counter girls brought them out to our table - they were huge! Definitely a great size for the price (I think it was $11.25/each). Plenty of grilled chicken on top, sufficient toppings (mandarin oranges, nuts, craisins, blue cheese, green apples), and the perfect amount of dressing which was clearly homemade! I ate about two thirds of mine and took the rest to go, which was still good later on. Would definitely come back to try some other menu items, and maybe even the Brasilian stews they had lined up in the soup pots. Worst service I ever had!!! Made my quesadillia with american cheese ,proceed to tell me" well that how we make them here". I brought it back asked them to make it with cheddar cheese this time. Get it home and it is made agian with American cheese again. Bring that back and then the owner proceeds to tell me "well that how I and people in this area eat it with American Cheese and Next time I should be specific on what cheese I would like on my quesadilla. I thought I was clear when I called the 2nd time but apparently you need to call three times to get it right. I would even write this complaint if They didn't make me feel like I was wrong. Although I still stand by the fact that the food is very highly priced, the food is definitely much better then when they opened. Total ripoff and snotty rude people who work there. No thanks to this place. How do you run out of avocado before noon at a salad place? Helpful hint... There's a shop right down the block from you. Send someone over for more avocados. And if you're out of an expensive ingredient like that, you should offer your customer a reduction in the price of the salad OR a comparable increase in another ingredients. Edited 12/2012: AVOID THIS PLACE! The owner was gouging local residents during Hurricane Sandy selling $700 generators for $1,500. Obviously he does not care about the local residents. Overpriced salads with very limited selection of salad dressings. All of their salad dressings are vinegar-based so if you like a ranch or caessar dressing, you are out of luck. We found the chicken to be old and dry. They spend little time focused on quality goods as the employees were too busy either relaxing or fooling around. The also don't pay attention to the details. There are always errors on the orders. Also make sure you get there early - they constantly close 15 minutes early, which is quite stupid. I guess the employees want to go home. They should adjust their signs to indicate their actual time that they close to avoid confusion. We confirmed this a few times. read more

I don't get to Long Branch very often but I happened to be in the area 2 days in a row this week. After trying the Salad Shack once, I was so happy to be in the neighborhood again the next day so I could go again. I'm a little surprised by the negativity I've found here because my experiences were totally positive. No negatives at all. I suppose, if you were to come at the height of lunch hour the story could be different but I was in before noon for take out and I had immediate service. The salad fixings were super fresh and the choices considerable. I'm on a healthy eating kick so I ordered strictly veggies but the choices of add-ins were considerable.
