We stumbled upon Zachary's after having a hard time finding a restaurant we wanted to try, and decided to give it a shot without reading any reviews first. The restaurant itself is pretty basic and a little on the older side. It's definitely no-frills and nothing particularly special about the atmosphere. We went on a Tuesday and caught their $17 all-you-can-eat ribs special. The ribs were tender, flavorful, and really delicious. The meal came with fresh bread, salad, and a choice of mashed potatoes, baked potato, or fries. The sides were just okay--the mashed potatoes needed more seasoning. We also ordered the disco fries separately, but they weren't really our favorite. The clams casino, however, were good. Service was friendly and prompt, and there's a decent parking lot, a bar area with TVs, and clean bathrooms. Overall, it's an okay, no-frills spot, but I'd definitely come back for those ribs if I'm ever in the area on a Tuesday. The ribs are definitely what makes this place worth a return visit! read more

The pizza was very good. The French onion soup was horrible. The broth, onions and bread all tasted like chemicals. The cheese tasted as though it was browned using a butane torch not put under the broiler. I wish i could delete the photo i posted previously when the soup was good. read more

Come here with my family for holiday meet ups. The owner meets you at the door and seats you. They have ample seating; dining room and then bar area depending how large your party is. The dining room has a nice fire place in the middle making it cozy. Service is always good! They do brunch on the weekends and have a specials menu that's got some great stuff on it. Tried their Caesar salad with steak over the weekend and it was so good! Big pieces of steak and generous as well! Espresso martinis are very good. Sandwiches are a big hit there as well with my family. read more

Came in post Monmouth with some friends a few weeks back. Fantastic service and great people. The French dip was a little on the underwhelming side for me. Needed some flavor in it to me. The bread and au jus were good and the fries nice steak fries which are my favorite. Def will come back and try something different next time read more

This was our first experience. I had high expectations- given that Portnoy gave this place a good review. We Ordered a large sausage pizza for pick up. First off I love a good thin crust bar pizza, but this is more like a limp cracker. It reminded me of an easy bake oven pizza from my childhood. The size of the pizza was not what you would typically expect for a large pie.... More like a medium. As far as the toppings ..there was very little sausage on the pie. This is for the miserable service we received at the bar and it's the second time this year. The bartender I believe her name is Dianne could not be any less friendly or any more unfriendly. We haven't seen her smile yet in two visits and she seems miserable the entire time. it's obvious she attends to the regulars more than people like us who may only come two or three times a year. Just to get our check to leave we had to flag down another bartender even though Dianne was merely steps away, but refused to look our way. ordered two take pizza's, a small plain and a meatball. Both pizza's were over cooked to the point they were an unappetizing brown. A plan was for the grandkids, which they refused to eat and a meatball that had very little meatballs on it. Both pizzas were lacking sauce and were dry with a distinct tastes of cardboard. My wife thought both were leftovers and reheated. We ended up throwing the pizzas away. I been going to Zachary's for at least 25 years and I noticed over the last few years their food has been slipping to the point I will no longer frequent that establishment. So be warned. read more

This is a fine restaurant that is going downhill. I have been visiting Zachary's for a decade or so, but I have noticed a definite decline in their food preparation lately. Serving staff and bartenders are very good, but the kitchen is going downhill fast. Management obviously doesn't care. They would rather do schedules than interact with loyal customers who have been let down by poor food preparation. Their sirloin steak traditionally have been prepared to my liking, but not tonight. I like my steak rare and prepared "Pittsburgh " style. The first steak was neither rare or Pittsburghed. I sent it back. The waitress returned with another steak. It was rarer, but nowhere near prepared in the correct Pittsburgh style. There was no taste of cracked pepper and sea salt, and the exterior of the steak was not seared. Frustrated, I returned that steak as well, and refused to order a less-desired entree. Their signature dish has always been pork dishes prepared in different ways. Their pork chops were always thick and satisfying. Suddenly, theor pork dishes were prepared with much thinner pork chops. They were not very good. It is a shame to see a good restaurant decline because of poor management. read more

This is a great place, I am not frequent to this area and had limited hopes for my dinner tonight however the food at Zach's was amazing, I had the French onion soup which was out of this world, this was not the out of the can stuff but you could tell they actually cooked it from scratch. For my entree I had the smothered steak sandwich and a swear it must have had 2 complete steaks in it, all of the steak was cooked medium and was juicy and full of flavor. We were sat promptly by an older gentleman who was very nice our entire visit. Our server had a terrible attitude was not very attentive to us our entire visit. I never caught her name but she had a lot butterfly tattoos. Me and my sister's food came out ice cold which I had to tell a different server because we couldn't find her. The other members of our party were not checked on once after we sent our food back. We both had empty wine/beer glasses which we would have loved a refill while waiting for our food to come back, but once again server was nowhere to be found. After waiting awhile we tracked down yet another server to find our waitress to cancel our re-order as we had limited time. Omg ! This place was awful ! I dined here for a family reunion and I ordered the Prime Rib It came to the table and we immediately smelled fish The meat was Rancid It Was No Good ! When we complained the supposed manager came over and pick up the meat with his hands Twisted it over my plate and told me there was nothing wrong with it . There where several other people Who also had the bad meat . He then sent out some pizza to make up for it but by then it was too late Everyone was complaining no one wanted to eat anymore . A few of us got sick later.Thats not the only thing This guy was harassing my cousin pinching har cheeks and calling her cookies like what the f... We always enjoy Zachary's! Their classic New Jersey thin crust pizza (pepperoni or sausage and peppers are our favorites) and their Zachary's Salad are our go to meal. I like eating on the bar area, the service is great and their is a good selection of beer on tap. Cozy intimate booths for privacy and TV's has sports and horse racing which is a must with Monmouth Racetrack right across the street. We always go back for more! read more

Absolutely disgusted. Used to come here all the time but the food and cleanliness took a huge nosedive. Boneless wings were raw the last two times, there were little hairs in the sauce on my burger. And the sausage on the pizza was rancid almost green-ish color. We used to go here all the time but each time it got progressively worse and worse until we could no longer overlook the carelessness and filthiness of the service staff and kitchen. Also the bathroom looks and smells like a rest stop bathroom. Never toilet paper and always all manner of bodily fluid all around the walls and the floor. The older man at the front desk is very rude too and would always stare at our 16 year old daughter and would always try to hit on other under age girls in the waiting area. We love thin crust pizza and theirs was cracker thin and incredibly crispy all the way through. Not a soggy center at all. Our salads were fresh and crispy. Loved it. Absolutely delicious. It's been a few since I have been here. I noticed it hasn't changed that much as far as food items go. But I guess you go with what works. I was greeted by Kelsey, my server, who by the way seemed very cool , confident, and friendly. I ordered a house salad with balsamic and a medium pizza with mushrooms, peppers, and eggplant. Keep in mind it is a very thin crust pizza. Some people would not opt for this type. The menu is mostly Italian fare. A lot of people were sitting at the bar. I would assume this place is frequented by locals during the off months and as soon as the track season opens in May it'll be crowded. ( this establishment is directly across the street from Monmouth Park racetrack) What I did not like about Zachary's was the add-ons for pizza were too expensive. $2.25 for each topping on a medium pie, would make almost $19. The house salad was $5, not large and nothing special in it So what I had was good & tasteful but no pizazz. Went to Zachary's for a large group dinner prior to our annual conference. Was recommended by a colleague and they did not disappoint. I am so bad with names, wish I could remember our server's name who was a rockstar dealing with about 30 of us! She got everything down perfectly for all of us. We were out of there in beyond a timely fashion. Food was fantastic. I had a personal buffalo chicken pizza which was amazing. Thin crust was delicious and the chicken was awesome. Nice spot for lunch right off route 36 in West Long Branch. I have been here a couple of times. Fried calamari appetizer very good. I have tried the thin crust meatball pizza, excellent, the chicken salad sandwich very good, and the coconut cream pie for dessert definitely would order again. Server very friendly works both the bar and tables so if it gets busy lunch becomes casual not fast paced. The place is walking distance from my office and I have found my new place for business lunch meetings. I highly recommend this Restaurant. read more
