I guess the word "salad" in the name caused me to mis-calibrate my expectations. Yes, there were some vegetables - some seemingly fresh and tasty. My boyfriend and I LOVE this place. I live in Monterey but work in Salinas so I had been to the Salad Shoppe a handful of times in the past 5 years. As of a year ago when I introduced it to my boyfriend, a Monterey native, we have been coming at least once a week, if not more! My boyfriend owns a business in Monterey & usually works in PG/Carmel and STILL drives all the way to Salinas just to have lunch here; we are pretty serious about being loyal customers! The selections are always fresh and amazing! I would list everything I love there, but you would be reading all night. I will say though that every other Wednesday is Vegetable Beef Soup day, or 'My Day' as the owner likes to call it. Awesome salad bar!! All the ingredients are fresh! Lettuce/greens are always crispy and green! I have never had an ingredient that wasn't fresh. The chili is great!! Pretty nice(and healthy) hole-in-the-wall of South Salinas I've ever been too. The inside always seems clean and most times I've been in here usually isn't busy. You'd probably spend about an hour in here from what I've experienced the few times I've been here with friends. The staff is friendly and professional, you can pay them BEFORE or AFTER you grab your plate of greens. Also, theres tons of seating inside & out!(: I'll obviously be back soon. Every time I go here, the salad bar is noticeably fresh. The lettuce is always crisp, never browning or soggy. There are many options, including different pasta salad and lots of different veggies and salad toppings. They also have a few different soups available and a lot of different bread and some desserts. Staff is always very friendly. It's definitely my favorite salad bar. read more

Whenever I'm in town visiting my parents, I try to swing by Della-Rose Salad Shoppe. There is one long salad bar that spans the length of the shop filled with fresh vegetables from the local fields of the Salinas Valley. You can have an all-you-can-eat salad for around $6. Plus, you can take salads, sandwiches, and soup to go. This is a great healthy alternative from the strip of fast food restaurants along Main Street. Plus, I don't fork over the Whole Food prices for it. I wish there was a Della-Rose in SF. read more

This is by far the best salad bar available in the area. The vegetable selection is good, although the pasta and potato salads could use some improvement (like flavor!) Plus, transparent cucumbers really just need to be thrown away. What really bothers me about this place is the staff's attitude. Not even the slightest bit friendly, leaning more towards giving the appearance that they are annoyed by customers. This seems to vary greatly, however. They are bubbly and friendly with some, yet avoid even making eye contact with others, myself included. I have my own theories as to why this is that have become more apparent with every visit. I only continue to visit places that seem to appreciate me as a customer. I don't need much as far as attention; I just don't want to feel like I'm a bother. read more

This place was scary when we walked in. They didn't have the lights on and the ambience was depressing. People were eating giant plates of salad composed of ingredients that weren't even fresh. Some lady was picking through the spring mix with her hands because she only wanted spinach and they were out of that. It cost as much as sweet tomatoes but not as clean or with as many options. First time here and it will not be the last! It reminded me of a smaller version of Fresh Choice. There were three choices of soup; I got the tortilla soup. The salad bar had EVERYTHING! The staff do an awesome job in keeping it stocked and clean. The bread section is the best! I loved the corn bread! We got there at 11:20 right before rush hour, there is not a lot of seating, its good to place your jacket on a table before you get in line if you plan to dine in. read more

One of the best choices in Salinas for a healthy and delicious dining experience. First of all the place is one of the cleanest restaurants I have been too. The salad bar is always full and always very clean. The soups are delish and the chicken noodle is the only soup my kiddos will eat when they aren't feeling well. I came here with the BF for a quick bite and the lettuce and fixings were great, fresh and there were a lot of options but the protein options...little to none! $1.69 additional for a tiny thing of baby shrimp or chicken? I am not sure because we were the only Asians were there or because we were there with kids. I was observing her watching us, including the use of their restroom. The lady in the kitchen and the other staff started to stare at us using the restroom while I waited for my friend. I got the 'racist' vibe and the worst restaurant experience. This is my favorite place to eat lunch in Salinas. Fresh produce, great pasta salads, soups and pre-made salads. The salad bar has every veggie you can think of, lots of dressing options and tasty protein options (grilled chicken, shrimp - yum!). The staff is really nice and the place is super clean.
