Absolutely love this place! Salad is always fresh and crispy, and soups are hot and made to order. It is a bit pricey, but all you can eat so definitely worth the price. It is a self serve restaurant, so really no service to speak of, but cashiers are pleasant and ambiance is nice. Definitely a popular lunch spot, so if you decide to go there go early or you won't get a place to sit down. It seems like salad bar places like this are a dying breed, but I don't think this one is going anywhere any time soon. We go there on a regular basis for lunch and it appears that a lot of other people do, too. Get there early or a little later or risk having to wait awhile for a table to clear out. The salad bar is clean and well stocked. It's not particularly fancy, but it is consistent in its offerings. There are always at least a couple of starch based salads (pasta/potato), chopped egg, ham, and bacon for those who feel they need a little more than straight veggies. My favorite thing at the Salad Shoppe, though, is their homemade roasted beets. They are delicious! You get to select a piece of bread to go with your salad and afterward, there's a soft serve ice cream machine that you may want to try and avoid if you are trying to adhere to a diet. read more

The price, variety, & service make this a good choice.

Hands down the best place to get more than soups and salads! The salad bar in itself has enough pizazz to dress up the loneliest greens. They have pasta, veggies, meats, cheeses, and an assortment of nuts and lettuce to choose from. The soup bar also includes a variety of soups and carbohydrates (yum!). If that doesn't tickle your fanny, then head over to the fridge for a quick grab n' go type lunch, such as wraps or a Poke bowl (which are also yummy). If you want to top off your meal with some ice cream, well that's available to you too. The place will make you pinch your nipples with excitement. Used to come here all the time for a really good salad after getting out of class. It's kind of like a buffet where you can go down a line and choose whatever you want on it to make it perfect! Time with my wife is a treat ,She took me to The Salad Shoppe in Salinas Today. . I don't know how to say this yet Ill try. Round Table has a better deal for the 6.95 vs the 10.95 is a less than worthy value. My family and I have been coming to the Salad Shoppe for years. It is my favorite place and the only one I ever crave. I love the wide range of choices for lettuce choices and veggies (jicama!) and dressing. The quality doesn't disappoint, the price is right, and the staff is helpful. I know that we have a winner when my 3 sons ages 6 and 12 request Salad Shoppe for dinner. I'm sure the muffins and soft serve ice cream included are a bonus as well. read more

Enjoyed lunch here this week... Expected it to be good and was not disappointed... Arrived after the lunch crowd (about 2:30) and the salad bar was as fresh and inviting as if they were expecting an upcoming rush.. An ice cream cone after the meal was a nice touch.. OK so if you open at 10 be ready at 10. Dont be putting out tables, and utensils and cleaning around me while I am getting my salad at 10:15. AND have all the food put out and ready to access Went in to get a salad to go and 4-5 food containers were empty. Was I expected to wait while they filled them? And wait how much longer? Very unprofessional in my opinion. Also put away the fruit for sale that was sitting in the frig after a 3 day weekend. I had not been to the Salad Shoppe for many years, but recently thought of them when I needed to have a luncheon catered for a work event in Monterey at Ryan Ranch. Josh and Chuck were so thoughtful with helping with my order and advised me to not over order for the number of people we were catering for. I met them in the middle of their suggestion and they were sooooo right! Even cutting back my original order I still over ordered, but now our staff will have lunch again tomorrow if they want. So many members of our staff were delighted with the variety and taste of the salad creations The Salad Shoppe offered. They also provided bread and butter just as they do when you get a salad in their lovely little place of business. Josh and Chuck both made the delivery perfectly timed which was also so appreciated. I will definitely call upon them again when the opportunity presents. I highly recommend them for catering!! I've never had a caterer tell me I should cut back my order! Their honest and excellent service was certainly not lost on me. BRAVO guys!!!! I need to get back to (my roots) Salinas more often. What's wrong with me? read more

I've been coming to the Salad Shoppe since 2004. But today, I decided to write a review. Usually, the salad shoppe is pretty full, so if you are looking for a place with a quiet atmosphere with ambiance, this probably isn't it. Many days, It's so busy that people have to mark their table with their keys.. or something signifying that it's theirs because if you don't you'll have to take your meal to go - but don't let this deter you, it is absolutely the number one sign of a successful business! Which means someone knows what they are doing here! One thing about the salad shoppe that stands out is 1. freshness and 2. consistency. Sure, you can find salad buffet or to-go salads at other locations, but you won't find the kind of freshness that salad shoppe has - it is hands down, the highest level of salad freshness you'll find in Salinas - which says a lot, considering our location in the "salad bowl". Spinach, red cabbage, kale, beets, tomatoes, cooked purple and orange roots... deep color, fresh.. sprouts, peas.. a homemade hummus.. a bit of house dressing.. an oil mix.. with blue cheese and fat free honey mustard.. that's what I had today. But I have something different depending on my mood and what my body tells me it needs. They also have the non salad items.. soups, chili, muffins, soft serve, breads, potato salad, noodle salads, etc.! Meats, ham, egg, chicken... Wraps, and poke! Yes, poke! It's not the poke lab with someone serving you like subway... but who cares, it's POKE and it's fast and fresh! Please don't make the poke go away Salad Shoppe! Thank you for being consistent and charging a flat price vs. a weighted price (Like Nob Hill) -- We appreciate it! Epic FAIL salinas! For a place that is nothing but a salad bar, I was greatly disappointed in a VERY limited selection. Plus this place is lacking a few basic things that should be a no brainer. First of all; Non of the 4 choices of greens were dry! Come on, you're a salad bar, you really ought to have a few industrial size lettuce spinners, DUH! Second, a small plate as opposed to a bowl, is just stupid in my book. Most folks would prefer a tossed salad instead of being forced to glop think dressing on top (at least have containers by the dressings to have an option of putting it on the side). Or have a salad chef behind the bar tossing and making custom salads. Third, No selection of any other salads other than a potato and macaroni, too BASIC! I hated the cheap cutlery, and found it awkward to use. The thin paper napkins are also cheap and so tinny that you need a 6in stack to get threw your meal. I also didn't notice any trash or recycling receptacle so your forced to put everything into a messy bus tub (sucks for who ever has to bus and wash dishes). If these little changes were made you'd have a really great place. read more

Great selection of veggies! And the price is very fair considering it's all you can eat or a flat rate if you choose to take it to go. The Salad Shoppe is such a wonderful place to go for a fresh healthy option. My girlfriends and I always love coming here. The staff is helpful and efficient. Lisa is great! Josh, the owner, always greets me with a smile, and he's always out on the floor with the rest of the staff cleaning tables and ringing up orders. So refreshing to see an owner doing that. This restaurant is always clean and well stocked with fresh local produce. Try Simi's beets... amazing!!! I love that they show appreciation to their staff as well by giving them holidays off. I've always really loved eating here, the loads of fresh crispy local vegetables on offer are 'so' tasty. i just want to write now and say that I love the outstanding new soup recipes! Keep it up guys! Those new additions are delicious, and the new line of scrumptious cupcakes and cookies are the perfect treat after a healthy salad! Almost couldn't be better... I wish the Salad Shoppe was closer to where I work or live-- that is my biggest "complaint". This place is in a sort of strip mall. So, there is ample parking but it is kind of small. Still, it is very very clean and I think the decor is classy for a very casual place, Besides being a great salad bar, there are also freshly baked muffins (love the blueberry) & bread. I mean, they are still warm from the oven when I get there. There are also soups and chili offered, but I have never opted for those. Besides building your own salad, you can pick up one that they have made. A variety are available every day and there is always a daily special salad. I've only had these a few times. They were always excellent but I enjoy building my own salad here. They used to offer pre-made sandwiches but I'm not sure if that is still true. You can also purchase a variety of chips, cookies, fountain drinks, and so on. The salad bar ingredients are usually very fresh. I like that the lettuce is not wet like some places so it doesn't dilute the dressing. In addition to several side salads (potato, pasta, etc. which are not what I am here for) they usually offer the following for your self-built salad: a variety of lettuces, shredded carrots, sliced radishes, beets, green beans, garbanzo beans, peas, corn, sprouts, sliced red onions, chives, broccoli, cauliflower, kidney beans, jicama, cucumbers, tomatoes (not always as red & ripe as I'd like), olives, cheese, ham, chopped or sliced hard boiled eggs, cabbage, bell peppers, tofu, etc., etc., etc. Then you can top it with crumbled bacon, shredded cheese, sunflower seeds, croutons, won-ton strips, or crumbled blue cheese (or is it feta?). Dressing choices are the usual-- including some lower cal or lower fat versions-- plus a wonderful mustard dill that I usually mix with ranch because I love both. If that is not enough you can usually purchase a little side of salad shrimp or cubed chicken to throw on top. I can't recall the prices (I'm thinking about $8 for the salad bar, which includes a muffin or bread), but I wish they were lower. Still, that hasn't stopped me from going there because I still think it is worth it. The place gets full for lunch most days, so I usually hit it in the late morning and bring my masterpiece back to save and savor for lunch later. I just wish they were in walking distance of downtown Salinas! read more
