I got a "create your own," and can I say, underwhelming? You get a choice of 5 "toppings." But they don't have any fresh veggies besides carrots and cucumbers. No meat besides turkey vs ham. No peppers. No pickles. Nothing I would usually get on a salad. I feel ripped off. They need to get more standard shaped bowls and put more focus into the quality of food they provide. I bet the bowls cost much more than the ingredients they used to "create" my TINY bowl of iceberg salad. I get it that this is the airport, but you can do better than that. Really. Horrible service and food wasn't worth it at all. I told the lady making my salad I wanted the Mandarin Chicken Salad that was so clearly on the board and she goes "you chose from the salads in front of you". They all looked like leftover salads from previous customers. None had any meat. I decided to make a salad. I was full on yelled at for not being loud enough and shocked to find out I could not add a protein. After eating pizza and other various heavy foods in Chicago for the past few days I was excited to see Saladworks and have the opportunity to eat something a little lighter. Salad works offers salads with a variety of toppings which can be made into a wrap for an additional cost. I ordered the chicken caesar wrap. To my surprise the lettuce and all ingredients were fresh in a manner similar to the bagged salads many of us purchase from our local grocery stores. The food was expensive but we are in an airport after all di what else would you expect. Even though I wish the wrap was included a few more toppings I was very satisfied with everything and will definitely consider Saladworks as a healthy airport dining option in the future. read more

I expect more from a salad. And you should too. I got the Bently (tm) which is essentially a chef salad. I asked them to switch out the iceberg for spring mix, which they sort of did (leaving some iceberg), for an additional fee. Some of the leaves were rusted (brown). The tomatoes are notional tomatoes (see: food, inc), even in July. On the plus side, there was plenty of meat on it. That this place is generally well reviewed I chalk up to the overall wretchedness of O'Hare food. And airport food in general. Skip it. read more

After getting my salad and realizing I was charged more for spring mix, I inquired and got a nasty response from Marta that I was told about it which is inaccurate and no signs about extra charge if you don't get romaine. After some exchange, Marta proceeds to call me a "whiny little b*tch, making me have to deal with you over $0.89." As I was appalled by her actions, her response was call "the number" and complain as if she felt it would never happen and she'd get away with her actions. I just spent $25+ on 2 salads and a bottled water, ran to the gate (C11) with it, opened both and found the diced chicken in both were rotten - bad- smelled like ammonia. Everything else in the salad was beautiful. I ran back with the 2 salads, forks, and plastic bag and asked for a refund. 5-10 minutes later. Woman said "no receipt no refund". I said "you didn't give me a receipt!" And she said "I can't just take money out of the drawer I'll be short!@ and I said, "I don't want cash, please just put it back into this visa." Just grabbed lunch on a layover and my salad came missing some of the ingredients from the display salad I ordered. My husband took it up to them and they said "oh we were out of those ingredients". For a $10 salad if you are out of an ingredient you need to tell the customer and replace it. The quality of the salad was poor-processed meets and iceberg lettuce. read more

This is the second time that Salad Works has saved the day. No it's not fabulous or noteworthy food, but what it does provide is a healthy alternative when traveling - something that is hard to come by. In between the crappy Pizzeria UNOs and lure of McDonalds and Manchu Wok, Saladworks actually provides a solid healthy alternative for travelers. Personally I'd rather save those calories for a restaurant I truly enjoy or am looking forward to trying, not on throwaway French fries I hastily dig out of a bag as I lick the salt from my fingers clean. Although, that's really fun too! I've had the mandarin chicken wrap with tons of lettuce, chicken, mandarin oranges and some fat free Raspberry twice now - not inexpensive for $10 but not resting on my conscience. Tasty too! I got a turkey club sandwich with creamy ranch dressing. It was made quickly. They have lots of salad options. For the airport, the value is good. The cashier started to put the salad box in a plastic bag, but I said "I don't need a bag." She stopped. I ate the meal at a table in the food court. I've been to Saladworks a couple of times in the past and remembered it as being decent (never did I think it was that good). After being delayed at O'Hare and waiting in Concourse C, I needed some food. There's not a huge selection, so I went with Saladworks. I've definitely ordered it in the past, but this particular Saladworks did not have a Buffalo Chicken salad. I'm not sure if Saladworks got rid of it or this location didn't have it because they do not have a full menu. I went with the Cobb salad. And...it wasn't good. It was put together on the sloppy side, the chicken wasn't very good and they barely gave me any dressing so the salad was on the dry side big time. Needless to say, it wasn't a good dinner. The woman who made my salad was great, but then I got to the register and 3 employees were standing around talking about their phones. This is where I always get dinner at O'Hare; it's at the entrance of the food court near gate C18. It's definitely healthier than other airport food, and the ingredients are good quality. I was planing on ordering a salad, but I ended up going somewhere else. I witnessed the employee who was making the salad first grab the pasta then, with the same glove, grab lettuce for the person in front of me. This is a HUGE problem for people with celiac, like myself, who cannot tolerate any particles of gluten being ingested. I do not plan on returning until I can be assured that cross contamination like this can be avoided. Changing gloves in between each salad might be a start, or even scoops/ tongs in the pasta and one for the lettuce. This is a huge disappointment for celiacs everywhere. read more
