This was my first time going to a Saladworks and I plan to go back, I just won't be getting the same salad I chose on this trip. I picked the hot honey chicken salad. Overall, it was a very good salad. The lettuce and vegetables were fresh and crisp and the dressing was the perfect amount. The hot honey chicken was an odd flavor. It was sweet, but didn't taste like any hot honey chicken I've had before. It tasted more sugary than a rich honey flavor and there wasn't any heat to it. The service was quick and friendly. After scooping the lettuce into the bowl, it was then quickly and thoroughly gone through to remove any pieces that weren't the best. I was also asked if the amount of dressing put on was good or if I'd like more, to make sure the salad was to my taste. I got my salad to go and was given utensils and plenty of napkins in my bag. So first time for me and I liked the food choices. The service was good, my wife had to tell the young man that just emptied the trash, to change his gloves before preparing her salad. He seemed a bit "put out" by this request. But he eventually got over it. My server was a delight and was very helpful for this first timer(me ). Thank you for that! Saladworks moved into its Merchant Square location earlier this year. They offer both dine-in and take out salads and sandwiches, as well as cookies and brownies. They have a small seating area, which is good for visitors to Colonial Williamsburg looking for a healthy quick meal. While the menu offers some yummy combinations, you may also tailor your order to your liking. The staff are friendly and happy to help customize your order. The restaurant is part of a national chain, and they have an app where you can acquire points toward future meals. Among the salads we have enjoyed, we really like the bbq chicken salad with corn and the cranberry chicken salad. For sandwiches, we recently ordered the chicken salad sandwich. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to get some lunch. They weren't busy so we went right up to the counter. Being newbies, we needed a little extra time and the young man was very friendly and knowledgeable. I opted for the sandwich soup combo. Their BLT avocado sandwich was good. The only thing that could have made it better was if it was toasted. I chose the New England clam chowder. I liked it very much. It was very flavorful. The salads are really good, as was the soup we had (clam chowder). There is a choose-your-own Subway-style salad counter. The BLT sandwich was terrible. Ooof. Where to begin? This place is basically on par with hospital food. It's like Subway, but for salads. It's all low quality. The "grilled chicken"? If it doesn't come packed in plastic tubs, I'll buy some ocean-front property in Arizona. The apples were squishy. Not in a "oh, is this supposed to be applesauce" sort of squishy, but in a "this is at least a week old and possibly already chewed upon" sort of way. They were out of two of the dressings. There are signs up which offer allergy-free alternatives, but when you inquire, it takes four employees to think to ask the manager, because nobody knows the answer. The size of the salads is on par with a side salad, not an entree. With that in mind, the pricing might align more around $6 or $7, but $12 for a tiny, gross salad? Absurd. Perhaps most telling was my exit: the (I assume) owner asked me as I was carrying my trash from the table, "how was everything?". I shrugged, frowned, and said, "Meh." He nodded, turned, and walked away. This place is just another example of Williamsburg restaurants that capitalize on tourists, knowing that they don't need high quality when visitors aren't likely to return. As a resident, I can tell you that we won't be returning. Perhaps most telling is the fact that after spending $30 on sad salads, my wife and I went to the Cheese Shop to grab something else to eat, because our "lunch" left us still hungry. read more

This is my favorite spot for a take-out lunch in Williamsburg, well worth the jaunt to Merchant's Square in Colonial Williamsburg. It's not fancy, since it's a counter-service place, but the featured salads are excellent, with flavorful options from sweet to savory and light to hearty for health- and calorie-conscious customers. They also offer tasty soups and sandwiches. My favorite is the Farmer's Market salad (it includes roasted turkey, roasted butternut squash, roasted Brussels sprouts, bacon, red grapes and feta cheese), but I haven't had a disappointing experience yet. The ingredients are fresh and you can customize all you want. Portions are large and the salads include a roll. If you want to dine in, there's space for that, but I recommend getting your food to go and taking it outdoors. You'll be just a few steps from DOG Street, a great place for people-watching. Good salad spot in Williamsburg. They just opened, but the salad was great! It's also one of the only spots in CW open on Mondays, so props to them for that. I tried the avocado cobb, with a roll, which was yummy, since I didn't feel like creating my own, but they had a lot of interesting toppings I'd like to check out in the future (like roasted brussels sprouts ). I finally made my way and was so excited because I love fresh foods and healthy choices. I decided to splurge and try a variety of items to get a feel for their menu (and no, I didn't finish them all ). Unfortunately, I left disappointed. The tomato, mozzarella and basil panini ended up with spinach in it and was greasy and soggy. The chicken noodle soup was okay, but nothing to write home about. The salad bowl has tasteless grains and a green goddess dressing that was just buttermilk ranch with food coloring (thank goodness I got that on the side and tried it before dumping it on my salad). Add in the $29 for the three items (tax and tip brought that to $39), and you have a recipe for non-repeat customers. There are much better salad places with tastier options in Williamsburg. read more

Ok, these folks know salad and how to please salad lovers. I got the Greek and it was great. Plenty of veggies and lots of chicken, the balsamic dressing was nice also. My wife got the summer fruit salad and she loved it. An amazing assortment of fruit and everything was fresh. These salads will fill anyone up and there will probably be a take home tray. This was our first visit. We arrived at 6:30 pm. I ordered soup and a half salad, and my husband just got soup. As we were paying, we were informed that they close at 7:00 pm but they "weren't rushing us." The broccoli and cheddar soup was very good. The salad was tasty and most of the ingredients tasted fresh; however, I found several pieces of lettuce that were bad. As we neared the end of our meal (close to 7:00 pm), another employee came over to inform us that they close at 7:00 pm. My friend and I decided to try this location as it just opened near our dorms. Safe to say we were NOT impressed. When we got to check out, the cashier, April C was very rude. I asked if I could pay in cash and she said yes, when she handed me my change it was 80 cents short. I asked about this and she rudely brushed me off by saying that she was out of change. As a vegetarian, I stopped in this place to grab something quick that wasn't a side dish. I got the tomato mozzarella Panini - they actually put a small amount of shredded mozzarella on bread with a whole bunch of spinach and tomatoes. It was kind of like having a salad... squished inside two slices of bread (it wasn't even on a Panini roll). I assumed it would be slightly more hearty, using fresh mozzarella. I was going to get a can of seltzer until l learned the price- $4.50 (not including tax). I only bought the Panini, which was almost $13 and totally not worth it. I will say, the staff was very friendly, they had a large selection, and everything appeared clean... but it's not worth the money. You are better off at Panera Bread. read more

Terrible, terrible, terrible customer service. I was standing at the front of the line and the attendant went directly to the customer behind me. It was the weirdest thing. I waited a bit longer and she continued to ignore me and help him. I was thinking to myself, "is she just going to let this guy go around me?" I eventually spoke and told her that I was waiting in line also. The customer behind me was very, very apologetic and wondering what was going on. The attendant just looked at me totally confused in some sort of daze. Perhaps she thought I was there to provide some type of service because I'm Latino. I had the Grilled Chicken Mediterranean and she hastily through it together without ever addressing me once. I know she screwed it up, because the person before me had the same thing and it was significantly different. What a horrible experience! I probably shouldn't have to mention it, but the salad was terrible as well; it's amazing what a few screwed up ingredients will do to a salad .
