Second, the portions of absolutely authentic Persian food are HUGE. Hummus may not sound exciting, but it's the best around. And the saffron ice cream for desert was out of this world. First, I didn't realize it was a sit down and order restaurant, I was used to short order. I was quickly seared and within a couple minutes one server had brought me water as well as fresh tandoori bread and a delicious spicy green sauce to go with it. A second server appeared quickly to take my order. I explained I was used to short order, and all I wanted was their version of chicken and steak (not ground beef.) The waiter explained how he'd do the combo on the menu and off he went. Having looked at the menu, I feared this might be an expensive option, and it was. But a few minutes later I was presented with a platter of delicious looking steak, chicken, rice, onions, tomato, and event a char-roasted jalapeño. It was enough food for my wife and I have had for dinner between us, so the price was well justified. Every thing was delicious. At the end of the meal, I asked if I could order another tandoori bread, and get a small to-go container of the green spicy spread to bring home for wife to try. They brought me both a generous helping of bread and the sauce, and charged me for neither. This service, combined with a delicious meal that, while expensive, will end up being three meals, means this is definitely a spot I plan to go back to as well as recommend.

(1 of 5) Disappointing experience at Alborz Restaurant,…read moreVirginia On February 8th, around 8 PM, our koobideh kebab sandwich arrived completely cold. After a long wait for a replacement, the second sandwich was even colder. The manager explained that it's usually cold due to the vegetables, but neither the bread nor the meat was warm. After another long delay, the replacement finally arrived, but the experience of cold food and repeated delays was completely disappointing. For me, this experience wasn't worth returning for or recommending. Here in Virginia, the customer's time is the cheapest thing to lose.

Walked in and decided to order for take out. The restaurant was clean and staff were very welcoming even though it was 30 mins until closing. The host took our orders and even offered us complementary tea which was delicious. Reminded me of Habesha tea. My sisters both ordered the chicken kabobs and they loved their dishes. They also ordered an appetizer of some kind of yogurt dip and that was the dish my sisters raved about as she recommended this spot. For me, I ordered the fish kabobs that came with dill rice and flava beans. Which consisted of a bunch of rice and 3 pieces of salmon. Was very dry in my opinion and really could use some kind of sauce/dressing to jazz it up. If I ever ventured back here I'd probably sub the rice for salad. The baklava was pretty good too! For that and the tea, I would definitely venture back. Happy Yelping!

There are several reasons why I would choose this restaurant again for my wedding: 1. Food quality was amazing. Both our Iranian and American guests raved about the food, saying it was the best food they have had at a wedding. The meat was tender and juicy and the rice was delicious without being oily, which is very hard to do. Our guests went for seconds and thirds and majority of the food was finished even though we ordered extra! Even my mom, who is a very harsh judge of Persian food, loved it. 2. Service was excellent. Wedding planning is a really stressful process, so choosing a caterer is really important. Coordination with Mr. Sanaei was very smooth. He gave us his personal phone number and texted us everything we needed within hours (including COI and business license). The business is very organized. The delivery was on-time, and all the food arrived well-packed. 3. Most importantly, the staff at the actual restaurant is just really kind. I initially just went for a meal and after being treated with such kindness, I decided to use them for catering. Honestly, I get a feeling that the staff are more like my cousins. The ability to run an efficient and organized business, while still giving us a homy/comforting feeling is what makes this Maman Joon so special! 4. Price is great! I got a quote from several Persian restaurants in the DMV area (and even other Maman Joon branches) and this was lower for the exact same meals. Overall, I highly recommend Maman Joon at McLean as both a restaurant and catering!

I didn't even get a chance to take a before picture because my family started devouring it straight away. The meat was very tender and I loved their hummus. It was super smooth and garlicky. Everything was cooked to perfection and I will definitely be coming back!

All three of the dips were a generous portion and the bread accompanying them is delicious. The bread was refilled 3 times during the meal. Very, very good. Each of the dips was different and very tasty. The Hummus was smooth and flavorful and the Spinach (served warm) had a garlic flavor. I took a lot of the dips home - the bread was so delicious, I filled up quickly. My friend thought the salad (Salad Alamut) was ok, but the soup (tomato based) was very good. We each had a decaf cappuccino, which were also very good. The service was outstanding. The bread basket was refilled several times and our water glasses were tended to very well. The place was not crowded and we had a leisurely lunch that lasted almost 3 hours. There was no impatience to present us with the bill, and, after we paid, we were still offered refills on water as we lingered for a few more minutes. Excellent service! We felt very welcomed here. The restaurant has a traditional Persian restaurant appearance. It's nice and light, a bit fancy in appearance, but not stuffy.

We would be having a vegetarian luncheon on the following day, so Moby Dick House of Kebab, with many Persian entrees with meat, seemed like a good choice. While Moby Dick is a chain, none of us had eaten at any of their locations. In addition to other offerings (such as sandwiches only or salads), the restaurant offered many entree plates that include your choice of (1) meat, (2) either basmati rice or salad (lettuce, tomato, red onions, feta crumbles, dressing), or half-and-half of each; (3) a 1/2 pita; and (4) must-o-kheyar (cucumber yogurt). The menus at the counter had photos of each of these options. Two of us ordered the Barreh Kebob entrees, which featured lamb kebabs, with the sides mentioned above ($17.99 each). One ordered the gyro entree, which featured slices of beef gyros ($12.99), and I ordered the Joojeh Kebab, with marinated and grilled chunks of chicken ($14.49). The girl who took our order was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed sitting outside with two tables pushed together. Overall, the restaurant was moderately priced. Our bill for the four entrees and two sodas was under $90. (April, 2025). We would eat here again. All of us were very pleased with our meals. In fact, the quantities were more than suggested by the menu photos, and they arrived hot and tasty. The weakest parts of the meals were the pita bread and the yogurt sauce. In both cases, they didn't seem to be restaurant-made. The pita was flavorless and the yogurt sauce came in a plastic tub.
