I usually order the kubideh platter with half rice and half salad, and across multiple locations, the food has been impressively consistent. One small note: for to-go orders through UberEats, some locations offer the salad on the side, while others don't -- but it's never been a dealbreaker. The white sauce is excellent -- flavorful without being heavy like other halal spots -- and if you like a little kick, don't forget the green sauce to elevate the flavor even more. We ordered the grilled marinated chicken breast (Joojeh) and seasoned ground beef log (Kubideh) with basmati rice & tomatoes. The rice was so light and fluffy a kinda oily from the butter. A little saffron for yellow color on top. The meats were cooked perfectly. Hot, juicy and flavorful. Always add sumac to give it a little sour tang. The pita was hot and fresh dipped into the yogurt sauce (tzatziki). Ask for the green sauce (for some fresh & spicy kick, jalapeno peppers with parsley & yogurt). I want to give them 4 stars but the inconsistency in service & food from location to location & day to day is disappointing as well as it is on the moderate side on price. This was my first time trying Moby Dicks House of Kabobs based off a coworkers recommendation and I must say it was well worth it. The rice was so soft and fluffy and the chicken was nice and tender, for anyone who has not been here the chicken will be yellow but don't worry it is good. I got the combo which included the rice with butter sauce *good combo*, chicken and beef. You can get lamb instead of beef but I chose beef instead and it was just ok. The beef didn't really have any seasoning and once it sat for a few minutes it began to get tough but in my opinion that is all beef so no bad review on that just not my cup of tea. The chicken was tender and had mild seasoning but paired great with the rice. This dish also comes with a tomato sliced in half so if you like tomatoes with this dish then there you go however I did not eat them. For someone looking to get a quick bite to eat or sit down and enjoy your food I would recommend this place. It is cooked to order so your food will be hot when you get it. The food was good, as always. But, the service over the phone was borderline rude. I ordered several dishes with Uber Eats and, when I found out the order was missing items that were promised in promotional offers (one free hummus with each joojeh), and I called to ask about the missing hummus, the store say no refunds and there was nothing they could do. They told me to contact Uber Eats. I already messaged Uber Eats though and the help feature stated that uber couldn't offer refunds. I mentioned this with Moby Dick and they pretty much bluntly said they couldn't do anything and goodbye. The interaction felt incredibly uncaring and there was no effort at all to help me fulfill an order that I paid for. Also, it wasn't just the promotional hummus that was missing. I was also missing a large chutney that was not free with the meal as an extra - I paid for that separately and they just didn't pack it in the delivery. When do you ever order food from a place, not get what you paid for, and they just say they don't offer a refund for the item or anything to make up for it? I get if they couldn't refund because the sale went through a secondary service provider like Uber Eats, if that was the issue, but what about just offering to give me the items if I came in person? They just basically said 'tough luck, I guess you don't get your items you paid for.' For such a good maker of kabob, and I've been going to them for years, why would they treat a customer so poorly? read more

Our family really enjoys the chicken kabob sandwiches and platters with rice. Their spicy green sauce (chutney) is a superb addition that enhances the flavor of any chicken kabob sandwich. The pita bread is delightful in combination with juicy chicken cubes, feta cheese, and lettuce. Takeout orders are easy to place in advance by phone or online. I was impressed by the short turnaround time as our family order was ready in 12 minutes. In early January 2022, I made my first visit to the Tysons location due to the recent closure of the Merrifield restaurant which was closer to our home. The Tysons location is just off Route 7 and in the same complex as the Walmart. To reach the entrance, you need to walk a short distance outside the Walmart store. Garage parking is free and convenient. I would try to avoid peak hours when the Walmart is crowded (maybe on a Saturday afternoon) as it makes picking up your order more difficult at Moby Dicks. The friendly, professional staff at the counter made my first visit here pleasant and quick. We'll be back soon! read more

I haven't been to this location of Moby Dick in a few years now, however, you could get a good meal in the past...freshly made kabobs, rice, salad, etc. A healthy meal. There are so many more kabob joints these days in Tysons so we haven't been back to Moby Dick until we decided to order catering for a New Year's Eve party. And boy was it disappointing...we were scheduled to pick up at 6:30pm and arrived a few minutes before that. We were told that they were behind and the food was being prepped. We ended up waiting another 20-30 mins, got all the food, and headed home (10 minute trip). When we get home the food is cold as a brick. Our guests don't say anything but I notice the food must have been sitting around for a good 30 minutes. Now I understand if they are busy we have to wait for our order but how is the food stone cold? If they are busy making the food and they are running behind at least the food should be hot/warm. Am I missing something? I can only deduce that something else wasn't ready (the rice? the sauces?) and they let the kabobs sit. Very disappointing. One last comment, do NOT get the falafel...it was the worst falafel I've ever had...stone cold, dense bricks...I think if they served falafel at the local Fairfax County High School, it'd taste just like this. So many fond memories of going to the Falls Church location when I used to work in the area. First time getting MBs from this location, and just as good. We ordered the family platter, and it was enough for 6 servings! Lots of diff kabob options (wish I could choose), and plenty of rice as you can see in the photo. Wish they added onions with their tomatoes. They also have a very generous helping of their bread, but it was not as soft as eating in the restaurant of course. I did ask for their in-house hot sauce (always had it in small containers at the location in Falls Church), but they only had Texas Pete's in packets. A bit disappointing, but maybe they don't have their delicious vinegary hot sauce at every location. It also came with two options of apps or desserts, and yogurt sauce. The cashier was superrr patient with me, walking me through all the options I could customize from in the package. It came with three ground meat kabobs, which you could mix and match from options of beef, lamb, and chicken, one chicken kabob, one beef or lamb kabob, and 2 appetizers or desserts. I ended up ordering one of each of the ground meat kabobs, a chicken kabob, a beef kabob, and the falafel and dolmeh appetizers. The package also came with sides of rice or salad (or both), as well as pita and yogurt. Overall, this was a lot of food for the price! Definitely enough to last multiple meals for my family. Our favorite was the chicken kabob - large juicy chunks of chicken which were complemented well by the sauces and sides - but everything was yummy! The service was also just absolutely incredible. Money Dick is located right near the Walmart. There's a bunch of other restaurants within walking distance, but this is the only kabob place. The cashier was really friendly and the food was really good. There's plenty of tables inside the restaurant, so even with the lunch rush there were enough tables to go around. Tastey food. Let's start with the customer service : Extremely friendly , passionate , and helpful. My husband and I have never been before so the gentleman (I think his name was Kaveh ) explained everything and helped us order. He even asked if we've been there before and since we hadn't we got the run down. Food : Very fresh and flavorful. We love Mediterranean / Greek/ Middle Eastern and this restaurant really hit the spot. The spices weren't over powering but well balanced. Cleanliness: I was pleasantly surprised how immaculate everything was and the bathroom. I was comfortable with my 12 week old being in there and not worrying about germs and sanitizing everything. This is a solid option in the Tysons area. It took me a while to try this out because I didn't quite understand why there was another Iranian place literally a block from Shamshiry. However the setup of this is a lot more convenient. I'd say Shamshiry is more of a sit-down place to go with family, but Moby Dick is better for faster meals. There are a lot of other fast-food places in the area that offer middle-eastern food, but I was much more satisfied with the sandwich I had from here--sandwiches here don't have too much of any one topping. I also have tried the kabob platter and I recommend the chicken--it was a lot more juicy and flavorful than the steak. The rice here is good, as well as the bread. Takes a bit of time for them to prepare, but overall the food was flavorful enough that I didn't think the sauces they put on the side were necessary! The platter was definitely enough for two people though so I don't recommend it if you're eating alone (unless you are REALLY HUNGRY). Don't go there during lunch. It's packed. read more

I lived in Old McLean for 30 yrs & I remember MBDHOK opening there. Phyllis Richmond, the Wash Post Food Critic RAVED about it. My friends & family would get take out from there regularly bc it was so delicious. Now, when I am in the area, I go to their Tysons "Express" location. Same consistently flavorful, moist, delicious kebabs. I generally stick with the Chix, Steak or Lamb kebabs with rice. The bread & hummus is to die for! So happy they have multiple locations to choose from! I do wish the staff would be more friendly & gracious. They never smile, or greet you when you order. It doesn't take that much to do either & you are a paying customer. That's always disappointing & mgmt shld address that asap. Especially with Shamshiry so close. Food is usually acceptable but certainly not as good as the average street vendor you'd find through the Middle East, New York, or Istanbul. My score would be higher but their prices have become so high that they charge sit down restaurant style prices for what really is a food court level quality of food and experience. Service is usually of the quality of a teenager who would work at a food court, so taken together hard to recommend going to Moby Dick's these days when you could just actually go to a family run restaurant with higher quality of food and service for the same amount of money. A common thread ran through today's lunch, providing different definitions and applications of the word 'cold': The cold reception I received when I walked up to the counter, where the order-taker made me wait a full three minutes before taking my order, and only then in a quite unwelcoming fashion. The same disengaged order-taker who threw some already prepared bread that was sitting out on the counter back into the bread oven, but not leaving it in the oven long enough for it to actually heat up, serving it to me... still kinda cold. Why did she even bother going through the motions? The absolutely flavorless rice that was served along with my grilled chicken kebabs that had obviously been sitting around for a while, served... cold. The tomatoes that were also on the joojeh platter, outwardly showing grill marks but, again, served... cold. Put this all together, add in a 20 minute wait for my food to come out (even though there was only one party before me waiting to be served), and it all made for one of the most unenjoyable lunches I've ever had. The only thing on my plate worth eating was the chicken, which was prepared to order and came out hot and juicy. The chicken was very flavorful but the beef and rice were a little bland for my taste - had to add some additional salt and pepper. I do like the side of pita that comes with the meals. Moby Dick was off to a rough start when my yelp check-in offer coupon for a free drink was rudely refused when I ordered. Though I was roughly told they no longer accept the yelp check in coupon (note- then take it down on your business page!), they still gave me a drink on the house. I frequent Moby Dick for many years. Been to many different locations, DC, Georgetown, Arlington, Ashburn, Mclean and Vienna. This was without a doubt the worst excuse for Persian Basmati rice I have every seen. They always serve some of the best rice but not this time. They combined "some Basmati" with regular short grain rice. If this is the new practice of this chain then I suggest you change your prices because this is not the standard long time customers are use too. The chain cut corners and reduced platters from an entire piece of bread to half. We as consumers let that slide. But to combine cheap rice with Basmati is not acceptable and most of all not authentic. UPDATE: Moby Restaurant group reached out to same day and they help to gain my business back. The food itself was reasonably priced with large portions, however the foot itself was really lacking of any flavor. I ordered Moby's Combo I, which was a combination of one Kubideh and one Chengeh. (Ground Sirloin & Beef Tenderloin). Overall the meat was rather bland without much flavor. The sauce was good, however it really wasn't anything memorable. I have had meals at other Kabob houses and if anything this was just an average meal, nothing was wrong with the food it just wasn't enough to make me want to come back. Went to this place on a Thursday night for takeout. We got the Moby Super combo (Lamb and Chicken kebab) and a Chicken kebab with rice. TIP:: if you get takeout and do not want your bread to be all wet and mushy, MAKE SURE TO ORDER TOMATO ON THE SIDE!! or say no tomato! They put this tomato on the bread and the meat inside and wrap it in a box.....the tomato made my bread really soggy, I think they should pack the bread separately for takeout orders... But good food, the chicken was my favorite. It tasted VERY well marinated and spiced. I would go back there just for their chicken kebab. The lamb kebab was,,,,,mehh. I thought the lamb was a little too tough and chewy for my liking. The cucumber yogurt sauce they give you is really good. I have had it a few times when it was watery but i think they got the recipe down now....I liked the bread with the sauce a lot. The whole meal came to about $26 and we had leftover kebab (about 4 pieces, and an extra piece of bread (we ordered one extra). So it fed 2 people and had enough for one person to eat lunch the next day. It is an average price i think for kebabs. I like the location of this place as well. It's been over a year since I last set foot in a Moby Dick's. The regional Persian chain has always been "just fine" but I'll generally choose a Mom n' Pop instead. The new location in Tyson's West (North?) isn't revolutionary, but it raises the bar about one star's worth. The immediately obvious change is in the logo and overall graphic design of the large menu above the counter where you order. It's all very modern and stylish. The menu is largely the same as I recall, but with an intriguing addition; they now offer family platters. We ordered the smaller of the two sizes and found it to be a good amount of food for the price, but depending on appetites it might not feed as many mouths as claimed. The food was flavorful as expected, with the chicken a notable standout. The only real disappointment was the eggplant (baba ganoush) which was just wrong.
