For a Saturday dinner, a friend took me to Alborz. At 9:30 pm, the establishment had a few patrons, so we easily received seating. I ordered the koobideh kebab ($18.99) - two skewers of charbroiled seasoned ground beef served with basmati rice. After ordering, the table received the usual flatbread with butter and green chutney on the side. The flatbread was a bit too flat and a touch stale. The chutney didn't have much herbal flavor, and what little it had ended up overshadowed by citric acid. The koobideh kebab plate arrived shortly thereafter. The skewers seemed well seasoned, though a bit lean. The rice proved extremely fluffy and light. The atmosphere seemed nice and relaxed, not quite white tablecloth but on the higher end of an accessible restaurant. read more

One of my sisters recommended this place after leaving the Maverick City concert at Wolf Trap. Every place was pretty much closed and we were hungry & this place just so happened to be open. Walked in and decided to order for take out. The restaurant was clean and staff were very welcoming even though it was 30 mins until closing. The host took our orders and even offered us complementary tea which was delicious. Reminded me of Habesha tea. My sisters both ordered the chicken kabobs and they loved their dishes. They also ordered an appetizer of some kind of yogurt dip and that was the dish my sisters raved about as she recommended this spot. For me, I ordered the fish kabobs that came with dill rice and flava beans. Which consisted of a bunch of rice and 3 pieces of salmon. Was very dry in my opinion and really could use some kind of sauce/dressing to jazz it up. If I ever ventured back here I'd probably sub the rice for salad. The baklava was pretty good too! This is one of my favorite restaurants, and they never disappoint! I recently tried their New Year salmon and kuku sabzi. The kuku sabzi was a little oily, but honestly, it was still one of the best. The salmon was great as always, though I think it would be even better with a bit more lemon or if it came with extra lemon/ Narenj on the side.Overall, I love their food. After a long wait for a replacement, the second sandwich was even colder. The manager explained that it's usually cold due to the vegetables, but neither the bread nor the meat was warm. After another long delay, the replacement finally arrived, but the experience of cold food and repeated delays was completely disappointing. For me, this experience wasn't worth returning for or recommending. Here in Virginia, the customer's time is the cheapest thing to lose. read more

I stopped by Alborz in Vienna late in the evening (around 9:30-10:00 pm) after my original dinner plans fell through when the neighboring restaurant closed early. While it was late and I wasn't dressed for a formal night out, I was still a paying customer and expected basic courtesy. Unfortunately, my first interaction set a very uncomfortable tone. I was met by a female waitress whose facial expression and body language were openly judgmental. Being stared up and down with what clearly read as disgust made me feel unwelcome immediately. No guest should feel judged the moment they walk through the door. The experience improved once we were assisted by a male waiter, who was courteous, professional, and attentive. His service was the only reason the night didn't feel like a total loss and he deserves recognition for doing his job well. The food itself was excellent and honestly, that's the reason I would even consider coming back. However, good food doesn't excuse poor front-of-house behavior. I strongly hope management addresses professionalism with their staff because guests should be welcomed not evaluated regardless of attire or assumptions made at first glance. read more

This restaurant used to be very busy and food was better than our visit today. The Chicken kabob was very dry. The kubideh was just okay but the flavor was good. The food quality went down in my opinion. The ghormeh zabzi was okay but the meat was dry. The bread is old and stale. It's not even made in this restaurant. It comes out warm as though it was microwaved and hardens up to a dry old tasting bread. Overall the quality of the food went down although the flavor was good the chicken and kubideh was drier than before. Since the flavor is still pretty good. Food has deteriorated significantly since we began eating Alborz several times a year for the many years since they opened. To me their chicken kabobs were some of the best I've ever had, their rice was fragrant and amazing and their green spicy sauce was to die for. All that's gone sadly .... Got take out - chicken kebob was like tasteless dry rubber, rice was just meh, the green spicy sauce, even though it was the same color as before, now it was basically a watered-down apple sauce. What a disappointment!!!! On top of that, we tried their eggplant dip and it turned out to be an overpriced tiny tub of warm awful grease. If we were eating in, would've sent it all back to the kitchen. Don't know if the owner changed or the chef changed or what, but we won't be coming back. read more

Our meal at Alborz was a mixed bag.  The location is convenient with a big lot out the back.  The interior is comfortable and light.  The kabobs were good and the portions of rice very generous.  The biggest disappointment was the lamb shank.  Although the meat was nice and tender, it was served in a clear broth with barely a vegetable floating in the bowl.  We were surprised that they bothered having the broth/water.  The service was friendly but a little disjointed.  We had to ask for our tea twice after ordering it before it eventually came.  They were out of the baklava so we tried the roll cake which was refreshing but really nothing special.  I wish we had enjoyed a more positive experience. read more

Came here with some friends on a weekday evening and the restaurant was decently busy! There is also plenty of seating for large groups. The service is incredibly nice, and the complimentary flatbread is delicious. I ordered the sandwich, and the portion size was quite sizable. I came here one night after work. Got unwelcoming looks from the waitresses as I walked in. Granted, they were closing and maybe they didn't realize I was only picking up. So let's skip that. As for the quality of the food itself, it left much to be desired with the other Persian restaurants in the area. I had the ice cream and there was white bits on it. Now sure whether it was dry ice or wax but I had to stop eating f and toss it. The warm bread wrap usually served in other Persian restaurants was kind of a cracker at Alborz. Everything was excellent, especially the chicken, and seemed authentic. The service and ambiance were fine - it had a busy diner feel to it. But the food def made up for that. Consistently good food, generous portions. Over time, a few favorites and preferences emerge. Ordering a la carte makes sense on occasion, staff are happy to accommodate. However the price for customizing orders is borderline prohibitive. A side bowl of lamb shank broth cost $5, a Tandoori/Barg combo $35. Better to order dishes separately as they are obviously a better value. Overall, I recommend Shamshiry as they at least show long-term customer appreciation. read more

Upon the recommendation of a local I decided to try ALBORZ PERSIAN RESTAURANT. They have this green sauce that is made of jalapeños, tons of garlic, cilantro, and lemon juice...I can have 10 of those little containers lol no exaggeration lol As you can see from the photo I put it on my FISH KABOB that I ordered. The grilled salmon was cooked just right to the point where it was still juicy inside. No one likes a dry salmon so this cooking was appreciated. The fava beans gave a great touch to the dill rice that was topped with saffron. Huge plate for only $20.99. It was 78° out today so it was nice that they had a patio area. This was my first time ever eating Persian food and I regret waiting so long to try it! After a long day of travel, I checked into my hotel and was so excited to see this gem just a short walk away. I ordered Panir Sabzi (feta cheese) as an appetizer and the chicken kabob (half salad/half rice) for a main. Unfortunately my waiter came back to let me know they had just run out of the feta app...I was bummed, but just meant there was hope I would have room left for dessert! The pita the waiter brought out really hit the spot while I waited for my food. I was confused why my rice looked so dark as my food came out, and then realized I lucked out by getting crispy rice on my dish. The saffron rice was incredible; I could not stop eating it, despite being painfully full. The chicken was also flavorful and cooked well -- not at all dried out. The portion was huge and it was great having some crunchy veggies in the salad! For dessert I tried the Alborz Mix, a combination of Persian ice cream and paduleh. This was unlike anything I had ever eaten and was such a fun experience. The paduleh was really tasty with the lemon juice on top and an entirely new taste/flavor/texture for me. Service was quick and so warm & welcoming. Even on a Monday evening, Alborz was packed by the time I left. I had a very solid meal here for a reasonable price and will definitely be back in if I am ever back in the area! read more

I had tried Alborz twice. First time I have tried the food was through delivery at work- Nightshift Nurses love food. It was really good, especially eating it at 1am (food was delivered earlier in the night). It was awesome that the restaurant was open for delivery and was able to deliver during quarantine- I think we had it in May. The second time I had Alborz was take out in July. We ordered the cornish hens and koobideh dishes, and Tadig on the side. The Tadig was actually really hard to eat, to the point it hurt to chew. The Koobideh and cornish hens were delicious and the rice was so fluffy. However, the rice felt a little greasier. It was hard to compare to Shamshiry because I love that persian restaurant and I don't recall my rice being greasy. Overall the food is good and the portion is generous. I definitely want to try the restaurant again and try dine in once the pandemic is over. read more

All-around good experience with large portions and good service. --- Needed a sit-down dinner spot late on a Wednesday night near the hotel. My part of 3 arrived at 9:30, and we were able to be seated and still order dinner before the restaurant closed. The restaurant sits next to a Subway in a strip mall-like area, but the interior was well decorated, spacious, and welcoming. There were a few groups still at the restaurant that late, but we were served quickly and efficiently with bread, water and our order. As it was late, we each just went with an entree - myself getting the Barg Kabob and some hot, Persian tea served in a large kettle. Our table also ordered stew and a Chicken Kebab wrap. The tea was lovely and a great nightcap after a long, busy day. All of the dishes are served with an ENORMOUS bed of saffron rice. I did not grab a picture tonight,, but my Barg Kabob (marinated skirt steak) did not come out looking the most appetizing in color or presentation. That said, it was still very tasty and simply, yet well, seasoned. While not a stand-out dish I feel the need to get again, it was a solid choice and good meal for the night. My group also enjoyed their food - the chicken in the wrap especially was well prepared. It's a bit tricky to park. You need to go around back and then Turk all the way right to leave again. First impression is that it was drab and pretty dead. Staff was friendly but it wasn't a genuine welcome vibe. Good took a good 30 minutes. The rice was delicious and the food was decent. None of us were wowed by the entrees. He got the barg soltando and mom for the barg and I got the chicken soltani. The chicken was tender and very buttery. The koobideh was ok. Massive rice portion. The barg was also OK. It was tender but not much flavor. The bread was very bland. None of us cared for the bread. For me, the winner was the hot condiment. That was delicious. Would I come again? Maybe. It wasn't in my top 3 for the DMV area. It was decent but the quality didn't match the ambiance and price scale. It's authentic Persian food without the oomph and love you would normally get when you've had the real deal and full experience. The food was decent but nothing spectacular. Bathrooms were ok.
