I was in the mood for a yummy, filling salad and Salata hit the mark. I went here Friday May 8th around 530pm, it was busy but they were getting folks out in a timely manner. The veggies were crisp and fresh, they are not stingy with the toppings and like some salad places you are not charged for ever single ingredient. The regular salad, I was able to eat off of for 3 days, dressing on the side made that possible. Love the crossiant and the protein option of the seafood mix is very good. When owning a franchise that specializes in serving salad, it would be advisable to hire staff who understand concepts of "serving" and "salad". Absolute chaos, clueless inattentive staff, visibly high and indifferent. The one person who seemed at all interested in helping customers was so overwhelmed by three people in line that they had no ability to get through an order. Three or four other people working there seemed uninterested in helping, and when they finally did, they were pretty much useless, could barely communicate, and had no clue what was going on. God forbid more than five people show up -- the place would collapse. I'd pull the franchise if i were the franchiser. This was my first time coming to Salata's. There was a line, that's fine, that usually means that the food is good. My issue was they were out of so much that they were out of. Also, the people helping customers shouldn't have to leave the line to get more food to restock the line. I know that there was a prep person in the back that should have been helping. This slows down the line. My next observation was the cleanliness on the line. Food servers if you waste something clean it up right away. Do leave tomatoes sitting on the side of the tomato container. By the time we got through the line they were out of a lot of stuff that they weren't going to refill, like eggs, bacon bites, probably more and lastly the BREAD. That is a part of the meal that we are paying for. They gave no discount or anything. The gentleman taking the payments said the bread was that's a part of the ambiance. But the sign indicates that it's a part of what we're paying for. I want my bread! If I try Salata again it will be at a different location. Please do better. I went for a quick lunch and being this was my first time at Salata I took in the scenery by observing the menu and the decor before starting my order, then turned out that one of the servers was a former student of mine . Natavion made me proud by the way he handle the guest and me while still mainline a profesional decorum . I order a wrap and it was a turkey with all the fixings and I even dropped my wrap and they remade it and that one them the 5 stars because I had them at 4 because of the time I went they were closing and they didn't have everything available but they recovered by showing customer service to me and my friend . I stayed away for a couple years due to the continuously awful experience. Today, I thought I'd give it another chance. My salad is missing several ingredients. The area is extremely busy. I had to ask the line server several times to please remove the wilted piece of spinach from my bowl, and she removed every piece except the piece I was referring to. I couldn't blame her because most of the greens were wilted. She was also very stingy with her portions. There was also a lady there who seem to be a lead or a Manager. She was kind to the customers, but seemed very agitated with the staff. Her mannerisms towards them were rude, and she seemed very overwhelmed with something as simple as a salad bar. I also couldn't blame her though because the rest of the employees were moving like zombies, but it made the atmosphere very uncomfortable. She just gave off the energy that shouldn't get everything she wanted to tackle done all by herself and her staff gave oblivious. I don't agree with the rating for this place and feel Ike they deserve better even though our visit left some room for improvement. I enjoyed my salad dinner here with my folks and kids last night very much. They have a ton of salad options to choose from and you get a big bowl for the price you pay. In retrospect, with the cost being so similar, I would have just gotten the large if I could do it again. Ingredients were fresh and servers were friendly. The homemade dressing was good. The server recommended I combine the garlic herb one with the lime ginger and it was delicious. I may have liked to try some of the meats but they were extra. Still, there's many other extras that are free and the accompanying multi-grain croissant is surprisingly good. A few of the salad prep people were wearing headphones which I don't love (although I recognize it's probably a nicer work environment) as service was very slow for certain things and it didn't seem like they were always listening (maybe I'm old fashioned but this also seems less professional). I asked to try a soup and it took about 5 minutes for them to follow up (same thing when we tried to get extra dressing). They need to have real plates and silverware in my opinion. The salad bowls for dining-in are also huge/deep and not the most esthetically pleasing. It felt wasteful and less appealing also to split a few items in to-go plastic wear. My other complaint was that we waited awhile for the soup because it wasn't warm and when we finally got it, it still wasn't warm. This hurt the quality of an otherwise seemingly good tomato basil. They did not start making the mobile orders (placed 20 min before arrival) until after 30 min of waiting. They prioritize walk ins. In my salad they left off broccoli, tortilla strips, avocado (paid extra) , my dressings (so I had a dry salad) and my pita chips. I would get this everyday if I could. For under $10 you can build the biggest salad with topping galore. They have so many amazing options for toppings. Protein costs $3-4 to add but the portion is amazing they add --I personally love the shrimps and my hubby loves both the chicken options. The herb vinegarette dressing is our favorite. And you can choose a whole wheat croissant or pita chips to add to your meal at no cost. Yes and yes! It's order at counter assembly line style so it's super efficient. Well I must say being at Salata on Bill Kennedy Way ended up being an enjoyable experience. From even walking in the door the workers were very cordial and friendly by helping with suggestions because there are so so many salad building options to choose from. The staff were super patient with each customer. The 2 workers Rodney and Bree were very helpful. Rodney made a great suggestion to blend two dressings together which really gave the salad a pop. It had a kale base, topped with radish, walnuts along with proteins such as salmon and also flalafel. GOD bless the entire staff for willingly going above and beyond to make the customers happy. In the world of clean eating, this place is downright squeaky. Salata is a mix-your-own salad bar headquartered in Houston; their stores are identified by a friendly but not health-oppressive vibe. They follow the "pick your base then protein then topping" model common in a lot of upscale fast food. Interior is swoopy and modern. That being said, they do make a nice salad. My family heads here when we're in the Bill Kennedy area or on a health kick. The location is really convenient, with BeltLine access and a Publix nearby. It's easy to end up there when you're doing other things. Never had an issue with ingredient quality; there are apparently some dressings that are exclusive to the stores. Things are about as fresh as advertised. They have a beer tap that dispenses various iced teas. On the other hand, Salata presents a kind of choice paralysis. Part of the value added by a restaurant is the recipe that I cannot prepare myself, the creative vision that extends beyond my own choices. It seems that the staff do use a basic recipe reference book, for when someone asks for a Cobb or a Caesar, say. It would however be more awesome if they would develop some recipes that are openly displayed in the store, that are signed off as their particular creative product. Usually this is a good experience but today not so much. The store is supposed to open at 10:30am they did not open till 10:45 and I don't want to hear anything about being short staffed because there were three people working. I sat next door at Eden smoothie till they opened. The only reason I waited around Is because I had a $7 reward from always coming here. The employees were not welcoming at all. The girl that took my order was not very customer service oriented. Nobody said welcome in or nothing no greeting or anything. Usually I tip but today no. The girl was not very focused. I clearly said I want to use my reward but she was not paying attention. The Manager needs to retrain the morning staff. Next time if I decide to return will be in the evening when the staff is more welcoming. Kind of like a moe's or chipotle for salads and wraps. Lots of topping options. I think that the restaurant was clean and the staff were nice, but just wasn't wowed by the food or dressings. Nothing new in terms of flavors that I haven't had before. I got a wrap and soup, and that was around $17. Proteins were $2-3 to add. However there many items you can add as many of as you want, for no extra charge, so you can make it such that you get a fair portion size for the money. I made my own chicken wrap with chipotle ranch dressing. The chicken was fair in portions and tender. I also got the tomato soup, but wasn't the biggest fan. It's pretty acidic and also very thick. It was way too sour to just drink on its own, but also a bit too thick for dipping my wrap in. Parking is pretty easy to find. I went on a Saturday afternoon, and there was parallel street parking available, as well as a ton of parking in the adjacent garage. There are a few outdoor tables you can sit at, as well as booths inside. Pretty much no one was there. There was one other customer eating inside when I went. Probably an ok place to drop by and get something to go if you're in a rush and in the Madison Yards area, but not a destination I'd plan to go to with friends or for any occasion. read more

This place is alright. The food is fresh and quantities are good but there's just something off. The place was empty when I walked in on a Friday evening. I wasn't a huge fan of their dressings - I thought they could have done a better job potentially. The server I had was extremely unattentive and kept adding the wrong ingredients to the wrong person's bowl. This location seems to be understaffed as well. The salad containers seem to be very cheap and flimsy. It was hard to keep it straight and my dressing got stuck in the ridges at the bottom. Also; employee didn't use the utensils - just her hands to add the veggies to the bowls. She took the utensils out of the food pods and just served with her hands. And she didn't switch gloves in between people. This was incredibly alarming. What if someone had an allergy?? It was pretty good for my first time here, but it doesn't necessarily beat Chopt. It's a quaint lil place, and besides the cashier, every body else carried this energy that they would rather be anywhere else. The first two people putting my salad together had headphones in on the job, and couldn't hear me when I speak quite loud and articulate behind a plexiglass barrier. In fact, the first woman messed up my mother's salad because she misheard "peas" and put "beets" instead, and the second woman needed me to point to my toppings because she couldn't hear me. Salata is a new salad shop that is part of the newly added Madison Yards complex off of Bill Kennedy Way SE and Memorial. This is a big complex that is being added to the Grant Park area that includes and AMC theater and Publix. I was super happy to see a healthy option like Salata was being added to the mix of options in Madison Yards. It is located on the Bill Kennedy Way side of the complex next to Jamba Juice and First Watch. It is close to the I20 exit. Salata is very similar to a chipotle set up, where you walk in and all of the ingredients are laid out in front of you. It is your job to decide which ingredients go into your salad. I was a little disappointed that there was no "suggestions" or pre made salad options that Salata would provide as a reference. Instead you make everything yourself from scratch. While I do like the option to do this, I found myself so overwhelmed with all of the options in front of me to choose from. You choose your base mix, the main fillings of your salad, add toppings and then choose your salad dressing. Pretty simple and effective. In places like Salata they are not only just in the food industry, but in the Customer Service industry. The people who are behind the counter making your salad are the face of your brand and are one of the mating images of the opinions on your brand. While I thought the food/salad at Salata was great, the customer service was awful. When approaching the counter to order I was greeted with a "What do you want"? Not a great start, and as I continued to order the woman making my salad tapped her nails impatiently waiting for me to choose. Too bad there was nobody else in the store besides me, so I didn't understand her rushing me. One cool thing about Salata is that they have 8 or more teas on tap for you to purchase to drink. When checking out the woman asked if I wanted a tea. I asked her if they were sweat, sour and just some more descriptions of some of the flavors I was interested in. She replied "I don't know, I don't drink any of them". So when I asked if I could sample some of them, proceeded to laugh at me and say "No, but you can buy one". When I asked what happened if I got a flavor that was nasty, too sweet or I didn't like she replied "Oh well, I don't know". Needless to say, not the greatest first impression at Salata. Will I try Salata again, sure if I'm in the area and craving a salad. It's convenient to where I live. But is it any different to Chopt or other salad stores, No. But what will differentiate these stores is the service I get and thus far the service at Salata has been poor. read more
