For instance, the butterfly collection is an unexpected delight. Downstairs is the local library with a children's area with all kinds of hands on activities, like Lego blocks and cars and trucks plus you can sit at the little tables and read or build to your hearts content. Admission is only $5 and you don't need to spend more than an hour there, but if you want to spend 3 there's more than enough material for you to engage with.

The Village Green Gallery serves a great niche in Weston. For tourists: The town is in a deadzone for internet, and the cafe offers tables to sit at to check your email. Only, the connection is unreliable in the 6+ times I've visited over the past 2 years. I find the prices for coffee and light pastries to be very expensive, and the service not that great, although there is careful attention paid to keep it all local. In comparison to the tsotchke knick-knacks of the Vermont Country Store and the Weston Village Store, the fine crafted pottery, jewelry, glasswork, and photographs are a breath of fresh air. All the pieces, while expensive, are truly a sight to behold. And there are a handful of intentionally lower-priced items like note cards and glass rings for sale, too. For locals: the Fuji'is host the Weston Film Club for monthly viewings and discussions on foreign and independent films. They also host a book club and open up the space for other community meetings. I highly recommend a viewing (usually during the week) of the Film Club. Pop in to browse! The location right on the West Village Green can't be beat! While this is a favorite, I treat it more like a museum to view the artwork, as there's little there that I can afford there and I've never been wowed by the hospitality of Mrs. Fuji, who's usually behind the counter of the cafe. Look elsewhere for food. Look no further if you need to check your email and want to be inspired by the artwork.

Because we couldn't go on any tour, I only know this... it was built in 1864-65. It was also home to two Vermont governors, and it was visited by President Benjamin Harrison in 1891 when he was in town to dedicate the Bennington Monument. While the mansion may be closed most of the week, one could arrange to have private events held at this beautiful location... like a wedding, as other Yelpers have attested. If we're ever in Bennington again, I hope we could arrange for it to be over a weekend when the mansion is open to viewing.

Learn about how so many "modern household conveniences" from back in the day were designed and constructed to serve a practical purpose from the materials at hand. The paintings on the walls of the drawing room were gorgeous. Depicted scenes of live in that era as well as infamous locals. The ball room up stairs was most impressive! It's a very open and airy museum that has a flow but you can wander in and out of the rooms at your own pace and direction. They have a couple rooms that are "feature" (temporary) exhibits so if you've been in the past... chances are those rooms are different now. There is a short (30 minutes I think) movie that they show throughout the day. They will make an announcement and gather folks up and take you to the "theater room". There are benches along the walls to sit so you don't have to stand the whole time. There are stairs up and down ... but if you have mobility issues, they have lifts that you can use.

My friend and I stopped by when we were in Manchester to do some hiking during the fall. This place was amazing. Incredible views while picking apples in a huge orchard. They have tons of different varieties of apples. Honey crisps are definitely my favorite. Ended up picking a whole bushel of apples. The price is definitely reasonable. The staff is incredible friendly and encourage you to "sample" the apples while picking. They have a shop where they sell apple cider, donuts, maple syrup, and some other items. I'm so glad I found this place. I will definitely be back next year!
