This pharmacist (Paul) is a crook. When I went to pick up my wife's prescription, I was told (by Paul ) he couldn't get the medication from any of his wholesalers. As an alternative, he told me he could obtain "the powder" and he could compound it but he would have to charge me $300. I reached out to the doctor who immediately transferred the prescription to another pharmacy. The new pharmacy immediately filled it. I looked into the old pharmacist, and apparently I'm not the only person he's done this to. read more

I had a very concerning experience picking up a prescription at Salem Drugs in Port Washington last night. The owner, Paul Schimel, declined to process the prescription through my insurance and insisted that I pay out of pocket, even though the prescription had already been filled and the pharmacy accepts my insurance. I was told I would need to pay cash or credit card rather than have the claim submitted. During the conversation he also referenced a friend at the DEA who, according to him, could provide immunity if he ever got into trouble. Hearing something like that from the owner of a pharmacy was alarming and unprofessional. Patients rely on pharmacies to handle prescriptions transparently and responsibly. This experience raised serious concerns for me, and I believe others in the community should be aware when deciding where to fill their prescriptions. read more

I moved to the area last November. I would rather support a small business than a CVS. I choose Salem for this reason. That was a mistake. This pharmacy should be shut down. When I went to pick up one of my medications, I was told it was out of stock and they didn't know when it would be back in stock. This is not one of the medicines that are part of a shortage. As an alternative, the owner told me he could compound it for $300. When I told my doctor, he switched it to a nearby CVS. The promptly filled it. Yesterday I called to order a refill of another medication and was told it was out of stock. I then went to the CVS app, to request a medication transfer. Thereafter, CVS called, and asked me to contact my doctor. Apparently Salem is difficult to work with and when CVS called to have it transferred, they said their computers were down! After making more calls, they transferred it. Then I found out Salem billed my insurance company even though they never filled it! Be careful dealing with these folks. read more

PAUL AND HIS STAFF ARE NOTHING SHORT OF SPECTACULAR.yes at times the register gets backed up, but we must be patient as he is incredibly patient . Unfortunate I had to change drug stores to my wife's Union card to CVS. Paul swore he could service me but other Union members told wife , yes he can but after a couple of months the ins co sees and refuses coverage if I don't use CVS Paul is a WONDERFUL MAN & we became friends for 10 yrs . Although not enemies the warm friendship is regrettably over but Please use him as he's much more than a dispensing pharmacist. read more

Salem Drugs was a good drug store back in the day but no longer. They are incredible rude. They not only made mistakes with orescriptions and delivery they are extremely overpriced. We were a customer for over 40 years and tried to remain loyal but, no more. The way our elderly father was spoken to and treated was absolutely disgusting! Would never recommend them!!!!! read more

With so many pharmacy choices in port, it is hard to pick one over the other. However, Salem Drugs does stand above others. They are rather quick in filling orders on spot or ordering them if backordered. The pharmacist behind the counter always has a smile and usually says hi, so the care factor is there. I've said it before, little things like a simple hi do go a long way... I haven't really checked out the nearby alternative, Rite Aid, but I always prefer a neighborhood pharmacy. This one's got most of your basic over-the-counter needs (occasionally you will need to venture elsewhere) and does a pretty good job of handling prescriptions. They can seem a little disorganized, but I had to change my name and insurance when I got married and they managed to get everything up-to-date quickly despite my concerns that it would go otherwise and I'd be heading to aforementioned Rite Aid. A-OK with me. And since most of these smaller mom-and-pops types aren't able to stay in business anymore, an extra star for still being around. read more

I will never use a rite aid/cvs again in my life! I don't know how many times I ran around to 10 different pharmacies looking for my medication only to hear "I have it but I don't have the full amount", or "I would have to order it and I will get it next week". Come on people, this is medicine we are taking about! It isnt like I'm looking for candy or for a book. People NEED their medicine. It's a life or death matter in some instances. The problem is, the big chains just don't care. They can give you 10 pills today and the other 20 when the order gets in but they wont be bothered. They can use a distributor who can get them the order the next morning or the same day but it is too expensive or troublesome. That is a travesty. At Salem I NEVER worry about going without my medication. If he doesn't have it in stock, somehow he makes enough tablets appear until the morning when the order comes. If my insurance is giving us problems and they need to talk to the Dr before being able to pay for it, or medicaid has documentation lost, I get my meds. That is because at salem they actually care. After going there once, I transferred all my medications there. I would highly recommend anyone else do so. read more

My family has been in this town for over fifteen years. I cannot express the loyalty that I have for this pharmacy and the owner. Yes, sometimes things are just crazy in there, but if you are good at what you do, you are busy. The staff is always ready to assist, if we need something from the pharmacy, the longest I have waited is a half hour...OR they will order it and get the necessary medications usually by the next day if not in stock. Horrible. Tried to be a customer for years only to be basically abused through denying me my meds, refusing to actually put my copays through my insurance, saying to "take it or leave it" with the out of pocket price. Will insist that dr did not call in meds when they do not have meds ready. Will not look for prescriptions due to sheer laziness, 90% of the time left empty handed, missing meds, or over charged by 300% because they will not take the time to do their job and put it through insurance. Was belittled, left without necessary meds for days, had to have drs call to make them fix mistakes on their own end because they will not listen to me. I believe this constitutes as negligence on the part of their patients who rely on their pharmacy to supply them with their medication, and this establishment should no longer be allowed to operate. read more
