Visited this restaurant for the first time, and we were not disappointed. My wife ordered Eggs Benedict and I ordered their famous Chicken Fried Steak. The service was quick and friendly. The inside of the restaurant was mostly clean, but nothing fancy. Your typical small town shop with not too many frills. The food was delivered fast and hot. My CFS was HUGE and delicious. I chose the biscuit and gravy, and they were homemade goodness. The breading on the CFS was a tiny bit thick for my taste, but very tasty. Went here for breakfast and we tried a lot of things. The raspberry iced tea, linguica and eggs, hash browns, bacon, pancakes, and corned beef hash were all really good. Country fried steak was huge like other reviews say but it lacks in flavor and tenderness. This is a real piece of steak dipped In batter, fried, and drenched in gravy which I guess some people like. Home fries needed to be crispier and have a tad more seasoning, and the biscuit and gravy were ok but I wouldn't get it again. Went there a few times- 8 employees and I went for breakfast about a month ago- at 10 am roaches crawling on the wall in the board that separates the top/bottom part of the wall. I'm shouldn't give this awesome breakfast place a 5 star. But i love it so much. There food is so great and i love the coffee so much. It's a small place in the main street of salida. Mom and pop joint that has a great cook doing his magic. I would eat there every morning if calories didn't count. But they do so in don't. The question is why it don't want to give it 5 stars? This little restaurant is a hole in the wall...I went here for the first time about a month ago and I ordered biscuits & gravy (the biscuits are so big you could get away with 1 and maybe a small side) my husband ordered the kitchen omelett (sp?) It was huge with pretty much everything suffed but mostly egg! This place is famous for there Chicken Fried Steak (you better either come straved or maybe bring a friend help you eat it!) It comes out to 1 POUND!!!! I thought at first it was a joke and the person next to our table ordered it.... We went there today for breakfast and it wasnt that great this time, I got french toast and it was a little skimpy....my husband got philly cheese steak and when he got it, it had no cheese on there so we asked for them to put cheese on top and brought it to him not melted so we asked for them to put it on the grill and melt it....they then put more cheese than meat! Great spot. Normally I will stop by 1 or 2 x per month here on Saturday or Sunday. Place can be very warm in the winter so if you shiver like a chihuahua you'll eat comfortable. Breakfast meals are large so you might get food comma after your done. read more

Today my fiancé and I stopped here for breakfast. When we walked in we saw an elderly man with his Veterans hat on eating by himself. This young kid, who was our waiter, stopped at that mans table and asked him how long he served our country for. The man told him and continued back to his meal. We watched this young waiter then walk to the register, pull out his wallet and pay for that mans meal, without making a scene or saying a word. He put the receipt on the mans table and told him his meal was paid for and thanked him for his service. My fiancé and I were completely blown away by his kind gesture. We don't normally pass through this area but if we do again, this place will be on our itinerary. I didn't read the Yelp reviews before stopping so I guess we got lucky by ordering the CFS, the bacon, and the biscuit with gravy since everyone on here seems to rave about those particular items. DELICIOUS!!!! The service was also exceptionally friendly. There was a small mix up with our order so it took a little more time than some people might find acceptable but since we both have done our time in restaurants we were understanding about the whole thing. If only it were appropriate to throat punch your coworker when she steals your order and serves it to her table......but these things happen and we weren't in a hurry. I was definitely impressed with the food and the service.. the waitress was very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions.. the food is priced just right and the plates are huge! I could not finish my entire plate.. I even overheard two grown men sitting next to our table order a meal to share.. I ordered the chicken fried chicken and it was delicious.. this isn't a typical menu item I would go for but since it was recommended as their specialty I figured I would splurge..
