I love this place. Words or a review can't describe how much I love this place. I love all the farmer's cups hanging near the register and coffee machine. This place is a hidden jewel. This place has your classic breakfast/brunch items with no sugar-coating. They had great french toast, omelettes, chicken fried chicken (yes it was actually called chicken fried chicken), and breakfast burritos. I came here with my cousins and we all thoroughly enjoyed what we ordered. The service was so great and attentive. My cousin is a vegetarian and ordered the breakfast burrito with no meat, but the kind waiter offered to fill her burrito with veggies instead and she was so happy that was an option! My only small complaint is that the syrup was kind of slimy looking. It didn't taste bad, but it was really thick and looked different. I know my church comes here one Saturday once a month at 8 am. With a 6 year old and a 2 year old in tow, it never happens, so when the Pastor asked me to go to lunch with him I was pleased to be walking here. With such a large menu it was hard to decide. But I went with the Grilled Chicken Wrap with grilled chicken, lettuce, cheese, and tomato with Ranch dressing for my lunch yesterday The chicken was good and fresh, not like it had been sitting out, it was very filling. I asked for fresh fruit as my side and it ended up being canned peaches... We are in the Central Valley where there's fruit stands a plenty, and there's no need to serve canned fruit. MEH! As soon as I walked in I was greeted by 2 employees - I have hip surgery next week and walk with a bad limp. Employee showed genuine concern for my condition and got me a seat right away. I was happy to see breakfast served all day - SCORE! Ham and egg scramble with country potatoes and toast. It was amazing! I hate when chain restaurants put pancake mix in eggs to fluff them up. The eggs here we're au natural and perfect for an egg lover. The ham was good quality and not the cheap fatty ham you get elsewhere. The food was served hot and fast. The prices were reasonable. The owners retired and sold to what is there now and it is basically a vietnamese donut and sandwich shop. The breakfast is horrible. So sad that a Salida icon is gone. What a hidden gem! It's a mom-and-pop restaurant in Salida with a very wide and varied (and I mean really wide) menu. They offer American diner food, Asian doughnuts, Banh Mis, Boba drinks, quick breakfast run items like croissant and bagels, etc. But don't let that multi-cultural menu trick you, their dishes and food items taste delicious! We went here on a Wednesday at 10AM and the place was packing, it was unbelievable. Dine-in and to-go customers were in and out the whole time we were there! Must be a popular local favorite. We ordered their famous chicken fried steak, cheeseburger, waffles and country biscuits and have no regrets. The food was so much better than any American diner chains in the area. Even the Colombian coffee was legit! Best part of it all was the service from the couple (who I assume were both owners), and the $30 tab (for all that food!). Comes with your choice of hashbrowns or country potatoes and three eggs. And choice of toast or biscuits and gravy. This is a farmers/working mans breakfast. Being inactive, I could not eat this much very often. Maybe once a month. But I was craving it today and pretty much finished it off. The place is for sale. Sad. The current owners have been there for 10 years and want to retire. The chef has been there for eight years! Hopefully the new owners will not change a thing because this place is a gem. Stockton has Chuck's, Salida has Salida's Kountry Kitchen! My breakfast was not inexpensive... $17 and change. But you get what you pay for here. The average person probably could not finish the meal. The owner offered me a to go box halfway through and I told him no, I think I can do it. lol and I did a pretty damn good job! The Salida Kountry Kitchen is a locally owned restaurant in downtown Salida. We usually go early because it gets pretty busy in the mornings. They are also open at lunch time but closed in the evenings. This is a great place to go for breakfast on a Saturday or Sunday and are home to the famous "Chicken Fried Steak." It's a very casual place, and it's nothing fancy but it is fantabulous! Their Chicken Fried Steak is huge and by huge I mean it comes out on it own plate (small oval platter). Either my husband or I order it and we usually don't even eat half of it... (it can easily be spit by 4 hungry adults) I did get smart though and started asking for the Country gravy on the side then we reheat it at home and it's almost as good as in the morning, The meal comes with a biscuit (the size of a baseball), potatoes and eggs and is a little under $14.00. They have a lot of traditional breakfast foods on their menu that are equally good, but if you like, really like or love Chicken Fried Steak, give this place a try. read more

Bacon and eggs isn't called 'The Susanna' or 'Piggly Wiggly and the Sunny Side'. It's call Bacon and freakin' Eggs. This is the kind of place Ron Swanson would be proud of. This is the place that the old guys meet at in the morning to swap stories, where they have plates the size of bistro tables, and where they look at you funny when you ask 'Is this organic?' This kind of place gives Michelle Obama chills. If you ask for a kale and egg white omelette, the 300lb. cook just might come out and slap you silly. I'm not sure if you've put it together yet, but Salida's Kountry Kitchen falls soundly into category #2. Food is great, waitresses call you 'hon. You probably grew up going to a place just like this.
