Salie's Place located in National City in a small shopping center so parking is easy. There is not a lot to this location, fairly empty store with just a few items to purchase. I purchased Cheese Balls and Spanish bread. Cheese balls - not too bad, it seems to have a powder type texture outside but, it is not powdered sugar. It was more like uncook flour. Not a big fan of their cheese balls. Spanish bread - AMAZING! Soft and not too big with the just the right amount of sweetness in the middle. If in the area, I do recommend you stopping by to try their Spanish Bread. read more

Cheese rolls here are probably the best in San Diego. Bread is soft, not too sweet, but they are smaller and the bread you cheese ratio is off (lacking in filling). I'd still come back for more though. read more

FYI, They posted a sign effective August 1, stating that prices increased due to rising costs, supplies, and the usual "same as everywhere else" explanation. But with the higher prices, you're actually getting less product. Take a look at my pictures, where's the cheese?! And honestly, why even call it a cheese ball if there's barely any cheese? After being in Hawaii for 8 days, I suddenly had the craving for filipino baked goods . I randomly yelped and found this local hidden gem ! It's located in the heart of National City, on good old plaza blvd . There's plenty of parking and the ambiance is definitely mom and pop shop . Here's everything we ate-- CHEESE BALLS are everything everyone says . They're fluffy, chewy, and so addicting to eat . They're filled with the perfect amount of slightly melted cream cheese and the top had a slight crunch . SOO GOOOD . Im totally going to have these at my kid's next birthday parties lol SPANISH BREAD was even softer than the cheese bread ! This was super pillowy and such a sweet treat . If you're looking for a savory dessert, this it it ! Filled with butter and brown sugar . SHUMAI was the perfect one-biter . Id definitely pair this with the chili soy sauce as it balances out the porky aroma . PORK ASADO BUN BAO was a nice snack . Love the flavors of adobo and the hoisin sauce dip gives it a nice sweet balance . Overall, this is a place I will revisit for sure again in the future ! Being Filipino, we are always looking for a good Filipino Bakery and Salie's Place does not disappoint. We came specifically for Cheese Ball Bread and Siomai. I really wanted to try their Pandesol bread, but at 12pm they were completely sold out. They said you have to come early when they open at 7am because they sell out fast daily. Very simple menu. The Cheese Ball bread is just as good as everyone says and is right up there with the best I've tasted. The Siomai and Siopoa are my favorite!!! Everything is reasonably priced. They also cater large trays of pancit noddles. The inside of the bakery has a little store with Filipino snacks/chips and other cooking ingredients. You can also pick up your weekly lotto tickets here! lol! Great addition to the Paradise Hill area. I'll definitely be back to try and get my hands on some pandesol! read more

Favorite place to get siomai. Our usually order is the cheese balls, siomai, and siopao. Cheese balls are so good fresh. It still tastes good the next day, I recommend warming it up. The siopao are medium size, not too big and not bite size; and the meat to bread ratio is proportionate. The flavor of the siomai combined with the dipping sauce is just heaven. Before Salie's, I would never go to a place just to buy siomai to go but for salie's I'll make the drive. Salie's is located in a small strip mall with a decent size parking lot. When I walked into Salie's, I honestly felt like walking into a relatives house kitchen. It felt home-y. There was only one lady doing register & cooking the front part. I believe her kid was there too and an older gentleman way in the back probably prepping. They were all wearing masks and were professional. I ordered dozen cheese balls, dozen Pandesal, dozen lumpia Shanghai, & the reason I came for was a dozen shumai. The lady had a very "auntie/ate" like feel to her. She was super nice and friendly. She gave me FRESH Pandesal from the back even though there were quite a few in the front already plus I didn't even ask her. Cheese balls: wow. Just wow. They're a lot smaller than the ones I've come across here in SD but they're the perfect portion of bread-to-cheese ratio. The cheese? So creamy & delicious. IT IS A MUST. Pandesal: I mean wow, too. The Pandesal were also on the smaller side but I actually prefer it. They're the perfect little size and it has a perfect sweetness to it. Lumpia: these were SO NOSTALGIC to me. I remember my mom & my mama use to make it just like this growing up. The other lumpia around SD can get really stuffed, big and with thicker wonton wrapper that I don't feel is THAT good. It was the perfect amount of filling and crunch. I really enjoyed this, too. Shumai: Delicious. Delicious. Delicious. If you like shumai, get it. Don't forget the sauce & the spicy side that goes with it. I can't really explain what the sauce is because I feel it's a mixture of some sort that I can't quite put my brain on. It's mildy sweet with a salty vinegary taste to it. Just try it. It's freaking amazing. In conclusion, just TRY EVERYTHING. I loved the atmosphere, the customer service, and most of all the food was authentic, true, and everything you look for when you go over a relatives house to get that comfort food you crave. A hole in the wall you gotta visit if you're a fan of cheese rolls and siopao!! I love cheese rolls.. I always grab some when I'm out running errands or grocery shopping. I never knew this little bakery shop had the best cheese balls!! They make it fresh. Whenever I visit, the bread is nice and warm. I can eat a dozen by myself.. so bad, I know.. but it tastes so good!! They also make Spanish bread here as well. Fresh from the oven. I have tried both flavors of their siopao. The bola bola and asado.. it is delicious and fluffy. I love it. And the size.. super cute!! This is made fresh daily in their bakery as well. The price is unbeatable. A little hole in the wall Filipino bakery. Super duper small. I dont reccommend eating inside due to the small area. But, ordering and picking up and walkins would be best. You can always call ahead, they always answer. I love that their always open sooo early. Not alot of places are open early by 6am or 7am. The staff is super friendly. They are always ready, fresh and quick. If or when i need too I always call at 630am before work and order something. This is alwasly convenient because I can get food and still have time to be at work on time. Ill order big portions for potlucks or for kids school parties. They not only serve bread but, also food. You can walk in and buy and choose from sweet breads. I reccommend their cheap yet flavorful cheese rolls. Its a bread with a cream cheese filling. They also have the cutest tinest siopao for 1$ each. Siopao are a white soft semi sweet bread with meat fillings. They have 2 flavors which is the pork asado and bola bola (meaning meatball). Its alittle pricey for 1 tiny siopao teehee. BUT HEY ITS CUTE AND PRETTY ON THE EYES. I always get the pork asado because, its usually what they always have on hand. Sadly, ive never tried the bola siopao. I know they sell the boneless cebu lechon only on the weekends. Must call ahead. Its a bonelss pork roast stuffed and rolled with seasonings for flavor with a crunchy pork skin outside. I reccommend this place for service and food. read more

But the cheese balls here are really great with a slightly crunchy exterior and a soft fluffy interior filled with a not too sweet, very light cream cheese filling.
