Me and my wife recently bought a boat from them about two weeks ago. The boat was in great condition and looked well taken care of. They had just just serviced it before the sale. I have been around boats most of my adult life but never owned one. Brian went over everything on the boat with us. Even took the time to make a checklist for my wife when launching the boat if she has to do it alone. We did run into some trouble early on after the purchase, which is of no fault of the dealer or their work. Shit happens and things fail. I am a mechanic by profession and know this all too well. We reached out to Brian for guidance and help. He went well above and beyond to help even to the extent of picking the other staff at the shops brain to help us out of the situation. I am happy to say the boat runs great and we are enjoying our time on it now. Everything is as it should be. These people are great and hope to see them again in future for my servicing needs. Aside from having reasonable prices, their customer service was great. We could always get a hold of someone when we called, and they were always quick to answer any questions we had. Tim had great communication throughout: He broke down pricing, notified us when he received our motor, gave advice on how we should mail in additional parts, and let us know when the installation would be ready. There "PRO SHOP" is a joke! They have nothing that resembles a pro shop. Just a few dusty items.

I had the Yamaha outboard serviced on my boat at Salinas Valley Marine as they could take the boat in a couple weeks time whereas Nelson's in Prunedale was booked several months out. I can see now why the difference. The Yamaha two-stroke motor would run at lower RPM's fine but at higher RPM's it would run for a few minutes and then the engine would die as though starved for fuel. I had Tim at Salinas Valley Marine go through everything on the motor and he provided me with a bill for $1400 and said the boat was fine. First time out on the water the problem was the same as before I left the boat with Tim. Now I need to wait for the schedule at Nelson's to open up. The new location on Spring Street is also extremely difficult to get into and back out of with a boat trailer. Part of the problem is the narrow entrance and tight turn required to get in and out of the yard. It is made worse as Tim had me move my truck when picking up the boat and trailer so I was lined up wrong for getting out of the yard. Tim said it was so customers could get in easier as they otherwise could not make the turn with their trailer. So he made it much more difficult for me to exist so a possible customer would not have a problem. The situation on Spring Street is unusual in that it is an old narrow street and the city has removed any parking restrictions and their is not even a restriction for fire safety as the red zones have been painted over by someone. Fast Cash for Cars, a small used car dealer at the corner of Spring Street and John Street, lacks enough off street parking for its cars to it parks many of them on the public streets for weeks at a time. This is in violation of the city's ordinances for this type of business but the police department has not bothered to enforce the laws. The end result is that this two-way street has become a one-way street and heaven help anyone exiting from Salinas Valley Marine when someone is approaching on Spring Street. This is not a remote possibility as customers of the Harbor Freight store have to come from John Street and down Spring Street to reach the store's parking lot. Recommend for the reason mentioned that anyone needing work done on a Yamaha outboard go instead to Nelson's in Prunedale or to Monterey Bay Marine, the Yamaha dealer in Santa Cruz near the harbor. A very great advantage with Monterey Bay Marine is that they have access to the bay and can do a much better job of testing any installations or repairs before handing the boat back to the owner. read more

We've been getting a boat serviced here for almost 20 years. We first had a Reinell purchased from Salinas Valley Marine, we now have a Robalo. We had a switch go bad right before a big trip. James got us in, fixed the problem, then set it up so we could easily access a panel in the future. This is well beyond what is expected. They even cleaned the boat up nicely. Just had to post a review for Tim and Salinas Valley Marine due to the excellent customer service I received the other day. Had an electrical problem which I thought was due to a damaged circuit breaker. Called them and spoke with Tim, who said I should bring the boat in and they'd take a look at it. He personally took the time to investigate the problem and spent well over an hour checking things out. The problem turned out to be just a faulty battery. I have access to batteries so I didn't need to buy one from them and when I asked what the damage was he said "no charge". I'd hignly recommend this business to anyone needing any work on their boat. read more
