Mayra is pure magic! I came to her with a full hair project--I was bleach blonde with major grow-out, and I wanted my roots to blend in better and the blonde to look more natural and darker. Mayra went to work and brought my vision to life. Before my hair was even dry, I could tell it was going to look amazing. Very genuinely curious as to how this place is so highly rated. Are these reviews purchased or fake? I reside in NYC and stopped by for a brief highlight / touch-up as recommended while visiting LA. Truly one of the most horrific services ever. Took over 3 hours for a simple touch up of highlights from light brown to darker brown for hair just past my shoulders and that is of normal thickness. She told me to grow my hair and change the color and come back to her. A little abrupt. I did what she said, only because I happened to agree. When I returned, once again I reminded her of when I saw her previously. I told her that I wanted a shag. And I let her do her thing. Well I have to say her technical skills were good, as they should be since she's at least 65 years old, and has been at this for sometime, she did not listen to the customer. She is old enough to have lived through the 70s and the 80s so she knows what a shag is and yet she gave me a texturize Jennifer Aniston cut. She did what she wanted not what the customer wanted. I LOVE my hair! This review is for Steven Ford. This is the first time it's worked in over a year and I am so happy I cannot even put it into words. He gave me a sexy choppy piecey beach babe fun haircut that works with hardly any interference from me! I can rough dry it half way and throw product in it and it just looks hot! It even looks good when I wake up in the morning. Colleen and Dai made my experience thoroughly enjoyable. Dai greeted me to let me know Colleen was running a few minutes behind. She was very friendly and gave lots of great tips during my shampoo session on bars/lounges since I'm not from the area. I appreciated the nice, tall glass of ice water she grabbed for me, too. Super parched from the night before. Colleen was very warm and easy to chat with. She listened to what I wanted and also gave me a game plan for what she was going to do next. My main concern were my bangs. My last bang trim went horribly wrong and it took a while to grow out. She was able to revive and add dimension back into them. My other hope was to create more body via layers. That goal was achieved. My hair was easy to maintain w/ minimal effort and I still recognized myself after my first wash. Colorist Nathan Nutter contacted me via Instagram about coming into Sally Hershberger to have my strawberry tones enhanced. While I have natural strawberry blonde hair, I was experiencing some discoloration from the strong sun and hard water out here. Nathan first did a clarifying treatment to pull all of the impurities out of my hair and followed that up with adding strawberry color using a semi-permanent gloss. I had never had any professional color done on my hair so I was pretty nervous but I have to say I am very happy with the results! The color was very intense at first but after a couple washes it is just right: my natural color, but much more even and brightened. 10/10 would recommend working with Nathan for your color :) Lovely and relaxing experience at Sally Hershberger as well with enormous floor to ceiling windows with views of the palm trees. Great location with an easy walk to shops on nearby Melrose Ave made for a wonderfully relaxing Friday afternoon. read more

My wife will only get her hair done here. ONLY HERE! We drive from three hours away to get it done....I'm not kidding and there are no exceptions. One time, she went elsewhere and nearly cried with the results she was so disappointed. This place is like hair porn for her--she loves it. If there was a way that I can rate this place less than 1 star, trust me I would! I created a yelp account just to review this salon from how frustrated and disappointed I am with the service. I went to California specifically to get the "top of the line" hair care treatment and coloring that this salon advertises and instead I got played. I had an appointment on August 18th with Sulekha for balayage and olaplex treatment. I made sure I did my due diligence before deciding on the salon, etc. Sally Hershberger is supposed to be the best of the best, but they are nothing but frauds! I had virgin hair before I went in and she completely destroyed and fried my hair. She does not have a "special technique" at balayage, it's all b.s. And to top things off, when I was upset with my results, she did not even care. Her exact words were: "Your results are what you asked for and that's the best I can do." So basically, I need to shut up and blow dry my own hair to see how she's right. She moved on to the next client...I guess I wasn't the type of client they welcome there. I spent about $450 on my hair and my boyfriend who got a haircut spent about $175, that's a total of $625 for the WORST service I have ever received. I should have been reimbursed, or at least had my hair fixed when she saw that I was unhappy. Second time here I decided to come for coloring due to my past awesome experience. I schedule an appointment and came on time. I had my natural color and showed the colorist exactly what I wanted. I was very precise and specific ( as I mentioned before I have a fear of people coloring, cutting, styling my hair, actually I think anyone would be). I showed two different pictures of how I wanted my look to be. I also mentioned that I didn't know what they're process is like to lightening color but I was on a time sensitive schedule and couldn't come back for another session. I gave the colorist authorization to do "whatever" it was to get it to look like I wanted it to. I also mentioned multiple times ombre and did not want highlights. The price was never discussed, which I had already a rough estimate. It was a bit (for me) but I knew that I would be taken care of. Everything I thought was clear and was extremely excited to see the results. As the assistant was washing out my hair I took a glimpse of it and was nothing what I asked for. I wanted a second opinion and ask the assistant if it would look like the "picture" and showed it to her from my phone. She agreed it would and that the colorist would need to add toner to get it to that color. I had a bit of relief but got anxious once the assistant mentioned that she would blow dry a "piece" of my hair so i could be for myself. I anxiously asked if she wasn't going to blow dry my hair and mentioned that their salon does not blow dry unless the client scheduled to do so and it would be an additional $80. I was never informed by this and never had I heard of a salon doing such. End results, my hair did not look anything what I asked for and was unsatisfied. That is when a higher anarchy Andy came to talk and told me she would comp a blow dry so I can have full results and if I was still unsatisfied that I can come in to have it fixed or have a refund. The blow dry made a huge difference HOWEVER, it was not what I wanted. It was not what I payed for, it was not what I asked for. So, Andy said "call so we can schedule an appt". I did just that and played phone tag for the last two days. My second conversation with Andy was today by telephone. She was completely baffled at the situation. She thought because I had a blow dry, " I was satisfied". I was not trying to get a free blow dry and that would be the end. I explained that the services I received at her salon were not what I requested. After that I couldn't get a word in for the next 5 minutes. I began getting accused for being a liar and that I was aware that I had to come back for another session, which was completely inaccurate. I began getting accused of trying to cheap the colorist and her salon. Again completely inaccurate. Andy explained if I were to go back for an " Correction" it would be out of my pocket. I explained I didn't have the luxury to spend another $400 for someone's mistake at her salon. Andy, made me feel so low and stated that if I don't have that kind of money then I shouldn't go to her salon. I began getting ATTACKED, with statements like "DON'T COME BACK TO MY SALON", "LIAR", "you think your getting what you want for that price". As a professional, I was completely appalled at her behavior and the kind of face of her establishment. I of course agreed I wouldn't go back. read more

I wanted to make my 50th review a 5 star so in looking over my recent check-ins, I knew it had to be Sally Hershberger. To set the scene: You walk into the salon and notice a stunning, sophisticated woman, click clacking in her heels with a little dog on a pink leash trailing behind. It's only when you do a double take that you realize it's Jane Fonda. And so it goes. Here you will undoubtedly have many celebrity-sightings (play it cool, team) and that's because the ultra-cool staff here is both super-talented and incredibly kind. (A rare combo.) My stylists and color squad know what they're doing to the point that I don't argue, I just let the pros do what they do best. For color you want Bianca. She'll make magic happen right before your eyes without damaging your hair in the process. (See what I did there? Hair color? Process? That one's free, hair salons.) Bianca can take dark hair to light, back to dark, no wait maybe you want ombre, oh that's over? Then one rich color with some high lights and low lights. Whatever. She can do it all. (And if Bianca's busy, check out Cassondra. Equally awesome, tremendously skilled. Just ask Kate Hudson.) And if celebs and models trust them, it's a safe bet you can too. For cuts and styling you want Paul Norton. He's adorable and sweet and a wizard with the scissors. Does that rhyme? I should have been a rapper. Back to Paul. He tours with Ariana Grande, he cuts Gina Rodriguez. He has a list of celeb clients longer than my list of regrets (and trust me it's long.) He cuts dry, so if you're not used to that, it takes a minute, but his result is picture perfect. Because he wouldn't have it any other way. The assistants are all sweet and make sure you have whatever you want to drink and if you're hungry (and I always am) they'll happily order food for you. Tea or coffee, iced or hot, regular milk or soy or almond (thank you!!), you name it they aim to please. This place is a haven and when you're there, no matter who you are, you're treated like royalty. If you find yourself allergic to spending a lot of money on your hair, do not come here--you will break out into hives. But if you're okay dropping at least a couple hundred dollars--a small price to pay to have the best cut and color in the city--run don't walk to Sally H. And if you consider that Sally herself charges $600 per cut, anything less is kind of a bargain. read more
