Very genuinely curious as to how this place is so highly rated. Are these reviews purchased or fake? I reside in NYC and stopped by for a brief highlight / touch-up as recommended while visiting LA. Truly one of the most horrific services ever. Took over 3 hours for a simple touch up of highlights from light brown to darker brown for hair just past my shoulders and that is of normal thickness. Never ever had experienced such unprofessional behavior for a service not horrifically difficult. read more

Be sure and stop by the Rejuvenation Lounge while you are there. Run by Brian Birdwell who has a wealth of knowledge in the health and biohacking space. He offers a number of services, but my favorite is the Biocharger. It really keeps my energy levels up, and it's great for me skin. 100% must try. read more

Terrible experience. Had my hair done for the first time and the stylist refused to fix my hair and left half of my hair blank. He refused to be professional and follow up and stopped responding. Beyond unprofessional and way to expensive for no results. The salon itself is beautiful. I shortly went to another salon in valley village and they fixed my hair and did full balayage with light colors in ONE sitting and I'm obsessed. My hair is now less damaged and looks amazing! read more

So THAT was disappointing. I met with a senior stylist about a year and a half ago I had a long unstructured bob at the time. I told her I wanted a shag. She told me to grow my hair and change the color and come back to her. A little abrupt. I did what she said, only because I happened to agree. When I returned, once again I reminded her of when I saw her previously. I told her that I wanted a shag. And I let her do her thing. Well I have to say her technical skills were good, as they should be since she's at least 65 years old, and has been at this for sometime, she did not listen to the customer. She is old enough to have lived through the 70s and the 80s so she knows what a shag is and yet she gave me a texturize Jennifer Aniston cut. She did what she wanted not what the customer wanted. And that cost me $200 plus tip. As you can imagine I will not come back to Sally Hershberger 's. Not even to see Sally herself. Stay tuned to see how many other upscale hairdressers disappoint by not respecting the customers wishes! read more

Love this place. Im a man and I usually see this great pair once a month. Nick Cuts my hair and Holland does Color. Did not get my hair cut for a year due to Covid. I returned a couple of weeks ago , so glad I did . Got rid of the grey and now I look 15 years younger. Thank you Nick and Holland. read more

Colleen and Dai made my experience thoroughly enjoyable. Dai greeted me to let me know Colleen was running a few minutes behind. She was very friendly and gave lots of great tips during my shampoo session on bars/lounges since I'm not from the area. I appreciated the nice, tall glass of ice water she grabbed for me, too. Super parched from the night before. Colleen was very warm and easy to chat with. She listened to what I wanted and also gave me a game plan for what she was going to do next. My main concern were my bangs. My last bang trim went horribly wrong and it took a while to grow out. She was able to revive and add dimension back into them. My other hope was to create more body via layers. That goal was achieved. My hair was easy to maintain w/ minimal effort and I still recognized myself after my first wash. Definitely feels lighter without sacrificing too much of the length. She charges $185 and you tip both stylist and assistant separately. read more

I wish that I had a better experience at Sally Hershberger, it was dirty and the staff were not the most friendly, the stylist who did my hair the way they would talk down to their assistant was shocking right in front of people, it wasn't the experience I had hoped for what they charge. I had a nice haircut but I'm sorry I will not be back. read more

Bizarre... I am a new client so I call and ask for stylist recommendations. They say Andy and Alex $250 for highlights and $250 for cut. I ask for their Instagram and say I'll check there work and call back in -5 minutes. I call back to schedule and ask to confirm the price again. Now it's starting $425. I was on speaker my husband heard $250 too. I hate this industry. Just put your damn prices online and be transparent for fucks sake. I live 2 blocks away and choose to drive to OC cause of shit service/prices just cause of zip code. It's beyond. read more

It is always a great experience going to Sally Hershberger salon. The staff are friendly and so professional. I have never had to wait more that 10 minutes to get to my colorist , Carlos. He is ready when I sit in his chair. I get highlights and he does the whole process in a hour! It's incredible. He paints it on and when it is done I have the most gorgeous blonde shades. After that I move over to Ashley where she is also ready for me. I like a hairdresser that will listen to what you are saying you want. She is so nice and really talented. My time is very important to me and in a about 2 hours I am in and out looking great! I read more

Colorist Nathan Nutter contacted me via Instagram about coming into Sally Hershberger to have my strawberry tones enhanced. While I have natural strawberry blonde hair, I was experiencing some discoloration from the strong sun and hard water out here. Nathan first did a clarifying treatment to pull all of the impurities out of my hair and followed that up with adding strawberry color using a semi-permanent gloss. I had never had any professional color done on my hair so I was pretty nervous but I have to say I am very happy with the results! The color was very intense at first but after a couple washes it is just right: my natural color, but much more even and brightened. 10/10 would recommend working with Nathan for your color :) Lovely and relaxing experience at Sally Hershberger as well with enormous floor to ceiling windows with views of the palm trees. Great location with an easy walk to shops on nearby Melrose Ave made for a wonderfully relaxing Friday afternoon. read more

I am a HUGE fan of Matthew Shields at this salon! I have bee coming to him for many years and don't know why I have not sent a great review years ago. If I go elsewhere I NEVER have an amazing cut like he gives. Plus his cuts are amazing no matter if you curl your hair or wear it straight. Brilliant! Highly, highly recommend. read more

Saw Nathan for the second time at this salon for balayage and he is a Wizard at color. Especially blonde. He listened to exactly what I wanted and nailed it - beyond my expectations. Besides that - the first time I saw him, my grow out lasted for 6 months and still looked great. Sean also gave me a blow out and waved my hair and he nailed it too. I haven't washed my hair in 4 days and it still looks amazing! I've worked out twice!! How!? So happy I finally found awesome hair people i read more

i was very disappointed . i made mistake number one trusting the receptionist pick of hair stylist . 200 plus tip for one of the weakest haircuts i ever had i didn't want to complain on yelp i called yesterday to speak with a manager . we'll she wasn't there and i was told she was going to call back . She never did . i even gave her the benefit of the doubt and waited a whole day more. Nothing . the hairdresser barely trimmed my hair was as fast as possible . I was considering cutting a lot off it's been a while that's why i chose what i thought was a premier salon . But a bald trucker looking hairdresser gave me pause . i still gave him the benefit of the doubt but my gut was right . i have never been to a hair salon that didn't ask if my sideburns needed trimming or clean the hair off the back of my neck i'm still pissed . Don't get sucked into this brand . why are there so many good reviews . First off people want to believe that if they pay more it must be better . Secondly people just don't want to take the time and just never come back . read more

My wife will only get her hair done here. ONLY HERE! We drive from three hours away to get it done....I'm not kidding and there are no exceptions. One time, she went elsewhere and nearly cried with the results she was so disappointed. This place is like hair porn for her--she loves it. I'm not sure if this was valuable, but I have also been in with our toddler to wait for her and the staff were incredible. I was treated like family and I've never met them. If there was a way that I can rate this place less than 1 star, trust me I would! I created a yelp account just to review this salon from how frustrated and disappointed I am with the service. I went to California specifically to get the "top of the line" hair care treatment and coloring that this salon advertises and instead I got played. I had an appointment on August 18th with Sulekha for balayage and olaplex treatment. I made sure I did my due diligence before deciding on the salon, etc. Sally Hershberger is supposed to be the best of the best, but they are nothing but frauds! I had virgin hair before I went in and she completely destroyed and fried my hair. She does not have a "special technique" at balayage, it's all b.s. And to top things off, when I was upset with my results, she did not even care. Her exact words were: "Your results are what you asked for and that's the best I can do." So basically, I need to shut up and blow dry my own hair to see how she's right. She moved on to the next client...I guess I wasn't the type of client they welcome there. I spent about $450 on my hair and my boyfriend who got a haircut spent about $175, that's a total of $625 for the WORST service I have ever received. I should have been reimbursed, or at least had my hair fixed when she saw that I was unhappy. This place is literally trash, and I warn anyone who cares about their hair....Do NOT trust this salon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

First, what kind of unprofessional idiots do you have working at Sally Hershberger? I received a call from the salon and the girl is talking to someone else in the background. After saying hello again she quickly said, "Hi Lily T*** confirming your hair appt for tomorrow at 10am." Uh, no I didn't make an appt to get my hair done. But ironically they got the right person's first and last name and cell phone and that information is all me! I asked the young lady that this concerns me how a mistake on their end can possibly be correct that this is my information that they have. Second time here I decided to come for coloring due to my past awesome experience. I schedule an appointment and came on time. I had my natural color and showed the colorist exactly what I wanted. I was very precise and specific ( as I mentioned before I have a fear of people coloring, cutting, styling my hair, actually I think anyone would be). I showed two different pictures of how I wanted my look to be. I also mentioned that I didn't know what they're process is like to lightening color but I was on a time sensitive schedule and couldn't come back for another session. I gave the colorist authorization to do "whatever" it was to get it to look like I wanted it to. I also mentioned multiple times ombre and did not want highlights. The price was never discussed, which I had already a rough estimate. It was a bit (for me) but I knew that I would be taken care of. Everything I thought was clear and was extremely excited to see the results. As the assistant was washing out my hair I took a glimpse of it and was nothing what I asked for. I wanted a second opinion and ask the assistant if it would look like the "picture" and showed it to her from my phone. She agreed it would and that the colorist would need to add toner to get it to that color. I had a bit of relief but got anxious once the assistant mentioned that she would blow dry a "piece" of my hair so i could be for myself. I anxiously asked if she wasn't going to blow dry my hair and mentioned that their salon does not blow dry unless the client scheduled to do so and it would be an additional $80. I was never informed by this and never had I heard of a salon doing such. End results, my hair did not look anything what I asked for and was unsatisfied. That is when a higher anarchy Andy came to talk and told me she would comp a blow dry so I can have full results and if I was still unsatisfied that I can come in to have it fixed or have a refund. The blow dry made a huge difference HOWEVER, it was not what I wanted. It was not what I payed for, it was not what I asked for. So, Andy said "call so we can schedule an appt". I did just that and played phone tag for the last two days. My second conversation with Andy was today by telephone. She was completely baffled at the situation. She thought because I had a blow dry, " I was satisfied". I was not trying to get a free blow dry and that would be the end. I explained that the services I received at her salon were not what I requested. After that I couldn't get a word in for the next 5 minutes. I began getting accused for being a liar and that I was aware that I had to come back for another session, which was completely inaccurate. I began getting accused of trying to cheap the colorist and her salon. Again completely inaccurate. Andy explained if I were to go back for an " Correction" it would be out of my pocket. I explained I didn't have the luxury to spend another $400 for someone's mistake at her salon. Andy, made me feel so low and stated that if I don't have that kind of money then I shouldn't go to her salon. I began getting ATTACKED, with statements like "DON'T COME BACK TO MY SALON", "LIAR", "you think your getting what you want for that price". As a professional, I was completely appalled at her behavior and the kind of face of her establishment. I of course agreed I wouldn't go back. read more

I wanted to make my 50th review a 5 star so in looking over my recent check-ins, I knew it had to be Sally Hershberger. To set the scene: You walk into the salon and notice a stunning, sophisticated woman, click clacking in her heels with a little dog on a pink leash trailing behind. It's only when you do a double take that you realize it's Jane Fonda. And so it goes. Here you will undoubtedly have many celebrity-sightings (play it cool, team) and that's because the ultra-cool staff here is both super-talented and incredibly kind. (A rare combo.) My stylists and color squad know what they're doing to the point that I don't argue, I just let the pros do what they do best. For color you want Bianca. She'll make magic happen right before your eyes without damaging your hair in the process. (See what I did there? Hair color? Process? That one's free, hair salons.) Bianca can take dark hair to light, back to dark, no wait maybe you want ombre, oh that's over? Then one rich color with some high lights and low lights. Whatever. She can do it all. (And if Bianca's busy, check out Cassondra. Equally awesome, tremendously skilled. Just ask Kate Hudson.) And if celebs and models trust them, it's a safe bet you can too. For cuts and styling you want Paul Norton. He's adorable and sweet and a wizard with the scissors. Does that rhyme? I should have been a rapper. Back to Paul. He tours with Ariana Grande, he cuts Gina Rodriguez. He has a list of celeb clients longer than my list of regrets (and trust me it's long.) He cuts dry, so if you're not used to that, it takes a minute, but his result is picture perfect. Because he wouldn't have it any other way. The assistants are all sweet and make sure you have whatever you want to drink and if you're hungry (and I always am) they'll happily order food for you. Tea or coffee, iced or hot, regular milk or soy or almond (thank you!!), you name it they aim to please. This place is a haven and when you're there, no matter who you are, you're treated like royalty. If you find yourself allergic to spending a lot of money on your hair, do not come here--you will break out into hives. But if you're okay dropping at least a couple hundred dollars--a small price to pay to have the best cut and color in the city--run don't walk to Sally H. And if you consider that Sally herself charges $600 per cut, anything less is kind of a bargain. read more

I am so happy with it! But even so, she made sure I knew she wanted me to love my hair, so to let her know if after living in it I needed anything to be adjusted. I mean come on, what more could you ask for- perfect hair, and made sure I felt I could reach out with adjustments if needed- which brings extra peace of mind. Appointment based and specialized in an upscale edgier vibe, the entire team of hairdressers, stylist and colorists is incredibly talented (and cool). I have seen a few of them in action, including Jess, Angelique, Viper, Georgia, Maeve and of course Lydia and Marylle who have worked on my hair personally, and the results have always been remarkable and have looked stunning on everyone i've had the pleasure to see them work their magic on. I've gotten my color done by Lydia and it was an incredible experience, she's great at what she does as well as very fun to talk to. Owned by Marylle, a queer woman from Holland, who is a master at her craft and an artist with the razor, who I've cut my hair with every time i've gone in for a haircut, and she has never once missed in what will look good. Have left looking extremely chic and to be honest, just hot, when I have gone in for a haircut. It's definitely a place that people who have a little bit of spunk in them will love. It will resonate with those who like or have a more avant-garde, pure rock, edgier upscale vibe or are drawn to it. Although they are undeniably great at what they do and can rock simple and more toned down haircuts, colors and styles, the elevated edge is where they truly shine. This salon definitely calls to people who have a more norm defiant spirit or enjoy the energy of those who do. All who work there have an inspiring sort of fearless energy to them, they aren't afraid to be themselves and embrace being different. Really cool people and very fun to talk to. The salon in itself is well decorated, very clean, which I personally appreciate and just overall has a very cool vibe, it's always a good feeling to walk in to The Harlot and to just look around. Other than the talent and the overall feel of the place, I need to note and highlight their coffee lol it is genuinely just top tier, which personally I really appreciate. Definitely would recommend for anyone who has the budget and is looking for an incredible team for their hair. I would trust all of them to do an incredible job. Obviously, it would depend on what you want, but knowing their extensive experience, and what I have personally seen them do when i've been in the salon I can honestly recommend their quality of work. If you are looking to take a little bit of a risk, are open to trying something new and you just have a general vibe of what you want, I would absolutely recommend asking for their input on what could look good on you and what would work best with your features, have a reference pic for the vibe you're going for, for sure, but they all have a great eye and taste and will thrive on making you look your best. Depending on your style and what you want, different stylists could be the right fit, but one thing I don't doubt is that you will leave looking stunning. Hair is obviously a delicate thing, and for most of us it's a big part of feeling good, not only looking good. And those two are different things, so just in general be mindful of that. Don't ask for something too out there if you're not ready for it, cause even though it might look great you might not feel like it, especially if you're used to your hair looking a certain way for a long time, so, if you do decide to just let them do their thing, be sure to be prepared for it mentally. You will objectively look great coming out of the salon but might not feel it if you're not ready to rock a different look than you're used to, but that is just a general reality irregardless of the person cutting your hair or the salon you go to. Saying this because they are definitely very talented individuals who work at the salon, but The Harlot does specialize on a certain kind of look and hair, so make sure it's the right fit for you like you would with any other place. They're for sure some of the best out here in LA at what they do, guaranteed. If it's your vibe, you'll definitely love it and come back again :)

Every appointment. 1-2 days after getting my nails done, after every visit with her, the gel-x nails would crack or break in half. I've been getting apres gel-x for yearsssss (on a monthly basis at multiple salons all over LA and Canada). This has never happened to me before where they would break, only after visiting this salon.... when i reached out to her multiple times to express my disappointment, for $150+ nails, she deflected, blamed... me? for my nails?! This was my last conversation with her. After I confronted her, she unfollowed and blocked me on social media. I just wanted a refund of the $$ I paid for my nails. As a note, when I get gel-x at Ibiza Nails in WeHo, or Nail'd It in Glendale or Pasadena - those aprex gel-x last me 4-6 weeks, even when I was moving and opening boxes. Sadly, due to how I was treated, and the state of my nails, with lumpy thick coats, and the prep/cleaning of the nails, after every appointment, I cannot, in good faith, recommend this salon.
