Little Mr. Big Mister came in for a very last minute fix.

Our little buddy boy, Max was in great need of some overdue dental care. After hearing numerous positive comments from other clients of Salmon Brook Veterinary we decided to bring Mr. Max to their practice. Records were transferred from our previous vet clinic and an initial visit and health evaluation was scheduled. With the current state of the day, Salmon Brook has adapted extremely well to all of the changes. Online registration was a breeze and record transfer even breezier. Prior to the visit email and a call confirmed we were ready to go along with a comforting explanation of the newer protocol! The day of the visit, you park in a numbered parking "stall", and call their number listed on the same sign; announce you're there, and within minuted a friendly tech comes out to you vehicle. With everyone masked, the precious cargo to transferred to their care and in they go. In my case, Mr. Mister was a bit testy, so I was allowed to walk with him to the door. As you wait their prescribed amount of time, you received a call from the attending Veterinarian with a report, prognosis, and or recommendations. In our case, the doctor recommended routine immunizations that were due, the fact he could loose a quarter of a pound - with chuckles shared, and an estimate of the impending dental work (cleaning and possible extractions). We agreed, setup an appointment for a few days later, remotely paid our bill, and out came Mr. Chunkles happy as can be with all previous worries left behind! The teeth and gums cared for the following week with one extraction leaving the old guy with three teeth remaining. A follow-up call from the Clinic and after a couple of days rest he was back to himself. Now we're working of that Quarter Pound!

Can I call my puppy a puppy even if he's 11.5 years old? He's a great dog, and I love him so, so much. He's been going to Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital for most of his life. He usually sees Dr. Violette. Every year when it gets close to that time for his annul visit, they'll send me a reminder email to make an appointment, and also what vaccines he's due for on his next visit. Since the time of the pandemic, there is no waiting in the waiting room, instead they have us wait in the car, they come to the car for him. As of very recently I can go with him to the examining room, or I can choose to stay in the car. Of course I prefer to go in. Dr. Violette is and all the staff are so kind and patient with my boy. They always answer all my questions. A few years ago, my pup unfortunately had to have an important procedure done, where he had to go under anesthesia for the day. Dr. Violette called me through the day with updates and to let me know how things are looking. Even after I picked him up, they called me to ask how he was feeling and to let me know how long his full recovery would be. I appreciate this so much. They are people who really care about the well being of our pets. The one huge downside is how expensive this place is. Just a very basic visit with the doctor, no vaccines no blood work, where he's just looked at on the high table is $86.00. Not to mention everything else that adds up. They do complimentary nail clippings on every visit. I am fortunate that all around my pup is a healthy boy, he doesn't prescribe to any medicine. Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital is a great place for all kinds of animals big or small. They have a great team who truly care for your pet.

We had our first appointment with Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital recently. The nurse Denise was phenomenal! She was kind and thoughtful and most importantly, she was a great listener. We have recently adopted a pet with an abusive past. The nurse and doctor were so understanding of our situation and provided excellent guidance and care. They are collaborative in creating a plan for him to be successful with his future Veterinary visits and with his behavior training. When it comes to our furry family member, it feels so good to know that this team is professional, compassionate and competent to help us with his particular needs. Thank you!

Dr Groshek was very knowledgeable and empathetic, and I found his subsequent lab reports very thorough.

Last spring, he got extremely ill and tested positive for a fatal retrovirus. We thought he was a goner. The conventional vets pretty much gave up on him and told me to consider euthanasia. Finley bounced back after we put the prednisone in the trash bin and instead gave him some Acemannan "inner leaf" aloe and CBD oil from Pet Releaf. He started seeing Dr. Matthews after this (early last spring). She tested all of his food, and medicines to make sure they agree with him. She recommended a limited raw food diet, continuing with the aloe and CBD, as well as monthly acupuncture treatments. Dr. Matthews has a way of communicating with the animal, understanding their backstory and knowing what they need. It seems a little hocus pocus but you can clearly see the animal responding. She was also trained as a conventional vet. She has a lovely side-kick named Dee Dee, who does Reiki and just loves up the animals during their procedures. Dee Dee gives Finley "cookies" and places a scarf over his head so he feels secure, (and looks like a baby babushka). Finley does get very stressed from the travel so Dee Dee's relaxing and loving energy has been especially helpful. The office also provides 'acupuncture' treatments over telehealth. Don't ask me how this works, but it DOES. Since Finley started as a patient, he has been acting happy and healthy, getting into lots of mischief, "helping" around the house, and posting his latest thots to Instagram. He does have a bit of a "herx" reaction which lasts about 2-3 days after each appointment, but I assume this is a good sign.

Our first incident here was when our dog slipped out of her collar when a staff member was handling her outside of the building. Our dog ran into the busy road and narrowly survived. We decided to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was an honest mistake. Last week when we picked our dog up at the end of the day we were informed that she had a gash on her leg and had been limping in the morning. We took our dog to a veterinary urgent care facility and, five hours and 1500 dollars later, we were informed by the vet that she had most likely been bitten due to the nature of the wound and the level of pocketing. Our dog now has stitches, a drain, has to take medication, and has to be monitored in a cone for 10-14 days. The following day I spoke with the owners. I asked why they hadn't called us when our dog was limping in the morning, and why they again failed to inform us that they found a bleeding wound on my dog in the afternoon. The male owner spent the conversation downplaying the event and arguing with me, claiming they had only seen a "little red dot" and that "these things happen when dogs play". He also came up with excuses like, "it's hard to see wounds sometimes because of fur," yet our dog has short white fur. No matter what, the owners/staff should have called us when they noticed that our dog was injured. They refused to help with the vet bill, but did refund our daycare package.
