I wanted to post an update to my review. I did rehome my dog that day that they tried to charge me a $55 no show fee. I didn't show because I didn't have the dog anymore. It's They are terrible people at this vet- don't even go there if you are looking for kindness, compassion, reason, human decency, and respect. So disrespectful, especially the front office staff- there's like two people that are absolutely horrible, not sure why they work there. They come across like they completely hate their job and hate humans, but perhaps they do love animals, but they really hate the caretakers over those animals. read more

My Maine Coon kitten was under treatment for some undetermined vestibular issues and suddenly became very disoriented one morning. My local vet was on vacation so I called Salmon Brook in a panic and within the hour Thumper was at the facility in Granby. Dr Groshek performed a battery of tests and X-rays, and sent Thumper home with some oral and topical antibiotics, and long term steroid pills to treat what is suspected to be an inner ear infection, with suggested consultation with neurologist in a few weeks. Thumper has responded quite well to the prescribed medications, appears well on the way to full recovery, although it is a long process with this type of affliction. Neurologist at Pieper Memorial recommended continuing with the oral steroids and topical antibiotics, with another follow-up in a few weeks. I am eternally grateful that Salmon Brook was able to accommodate in such short notice and under these stressful circumstances. Dr Groshek was very knowledgeable and empathetic, and I found his subsequent lab reports very thorough. Treatment costs were high as expected given the extensive testing, but I highly recommend this facility for prompt and exceptional care. read more

Our little buddy boy, Max was in great need of some overdue dental care. After hearing numerous positive comments from other clients of Salmon Brook Veterinary we decided to bring Mr. Max to their practice. Records were transferred from our previous vet clinic and an initial visit and health evaluation was scheduled. With the current state of the day, Salmon Brook has adapted extremely well to all of the changes. Online registration was a breeze and record transfer even breezier. Prior to the visit email and a call confirmed we were ready to go along with a comforting explanation of the newer protocol! The day of the visit, you park in a numbered parking "stall", and call their number listed on the same sign; announce you're there, and within minuted a friendly tech comes out to you vehicle. With everyone masked, the precious cargo to transferred to their care and in they go. In my case, Mr. Mister was a bit testy, so I was allowed to walk with him to the door. As you wait their prescribed amount of time, you received a call from the attending Veterinarian with a report, prognosis, and or recommendations. In our case, the doctor recommended routine immunizations that were due, the fact he could loose a quarter of a pound - with chuckles shared, and an estimate of the impending dental work (cleaning and possible extractions). We agreed, setup an appointment for a few days later, remotely paid our bill, and out came Mr. Chunkles happy as can be with all previous worries left behind! The teeth and gums cared for the following week with one extraction leaving the old guy with three teeth remaining. Our local veterinary group practice in Granby takes great care of our furry pup when he needs a checkup or for the occasional ear infection. Dr. Wolfe has seen him primarily, and the staff always welcome him back and give him plenty of hugs and pets even if he decides to be a nervous wreck each time we visit. Also notable and appreciated is how much Dr. Wolfe cares for her patients and their families. When discussing an allergy and treatments for our boy, she spent a good five minutes on the phone considering different options and had a deep, educated conversation that felt more like a partnership rather than someone giving a list of things to do and hanging up. My dog got sick with cancer in her eye. Her health went down very quickly. I called this Veterinary Hospital and they were over and beyond the call. I knew it was her time and we had to let her go. They were so kind and understanding and explained everything before they did anything and let us take our time to say goodbye. When we left, we were let out a side door so we didn't have to face anyone and were told that they would bill us after. I just never thought that this would be an experience that I would be thankful for. Every nurse and doctor were so kind and helped my children and I say goodbye to our best friend for the last 10 years. I would highly recommend this office for all of your pets needs. read more

Can I call my puppy a puppy even if he's 11.5 years old? He's a great dog, and I love him so, so much. He's been going to Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital for most of his life. He usually sees Dr. Violette. Every year when it gets close to that time for his annul visit, they'll send me a reminder email to make an appointment, and also what vaccines he's due for on his next visit. Since the time of the pandemic, there is no waiting in the waiting room, instead they have us wait in the car, they come to the car for him. As of very recently I can go with him to the examining room, or I can choose to stay in the car. Of course I prefer to go in. Dr. Violette is and all the staff are so kind and patient with my boy. They always answer all my questions. A few years ago, my pup unfortunately had to have an important procedure done, where he had to go under anesthesia for the day. Dr. Violette called me through the day with updates and to let me know how things are looking. Even after I picked him up, they called me to ask how he was feeling and to let me know how long his full recovery would be. I appreciate this so much. They are people who really care about the well being of our pets. The one huge downside is how expensive this place is. Just a very basic visit with the doctor, no vaccines no blood work, where he's just looked at on the high table is $86.00. Not to mention everything else that adds up. They do complimentary nail clippings on every visit. I am fortunate that all around my pup is a healthy boy, he doesn't prescribe to any medicine. I had used them as a client, once, when I first moved to the area. I have a background in vet med, tech for 16 years. I wasn't working anywhere at the time. I had a dog with a presumed brain tumor. 16 years old. Brought him there for care. They refused to write a rabies exemption, even though I've seen proof that they do offer one. That was nothing compared to when the time came to euthanasia. They don't use propofol, which, if you research is NOT the norm. It led to a traumatic euthanasia that didn't need to happen. Others on google have shared same experiences. No reason not to use it. Never went back and went on to work for a hospital that is actually decent. Fast forward to today, when I was driving and witnessed a cat be hit by a car, on my nearby 50 mph roadway. The whole thing was very traumatic and I scoop the cat up and he was Shirley dead by that point, and brought him over to Salmon Brook. When I got there, I was met with questions why I didn't call- and woman who was super cold to me and refused to give me any more information and basically shooed me out the door. It was so bad, that a client who was checking out, actually said something to me in the parking lot about how they didn't seem to care and he thanked me for what I did. I only went to salmon Brook because it was 4 min from the accident scene. I tried to call them back multiple times, so that I can talk to somebody and give the person the cross streets of where the cat was found to no avail. Finally, I went on social media and posted on their Facebook page asking someone to contact me and instead they decided to block me. I proceeded to call the clinic and ask for the manager who was the only decent person to me. She was nice enough, but did not really take accountability for her receptionists action. But she did provide an update to me; and we ended the call. Now I know: living or dead, don't go here. And salmon brook: when someone gives you feedback and asks you to contact them, blocking them is ridiculous. read more

We have recently adopted a pet with an abusive past. The nurse and doctor were so understanding of our situation and provided excellent guidance and care. I am a 35 year customer of Salmon Brook Veterinary hospital and they have treated 1 cat and 6 dogs during that time. They were here to provide home euthanasia for our beloved pets, the last one a 14 year old papillon. i always trusted Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital to be there for me at those very difficult times. As I write this, I am home listening to the labored breathing of my 15 year old girl Shadow who I don't think will make it through the night. I called my vet to request home euthanasia only to be told that they no longer provide this service. Instead they referred my to a mobile vet that said they could provide this service with an elaborate cremation for $1200. I'm angry that Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital didn't tell me of their policy change. I would have changed years ago to another veterinary hospital that has a heart. I hope the hospital's current customers read this and make other plans for their pet. Update: my sweet girl passed at 3:11am after hours of suffering...no pain meds, no response from any of the mobile vets that SBVH gave me except the one that wanted to charge $1200 for the next day (she didn't last that long). Beware: in my Google search for mobile vets, Salmon Brook Animal Hospital came up as providing in home euthanasia. False advertising. I am devastated by grief at losing my girl, with the most sadness that I was unable to ease her passing, other than comforting hands and being with her through the end. SBVM is not the same as it was. No loyalty or heart. please save yourself a lot of sadness and consider other hospitals for your pets. read more

About 15 years ago, the founder of the practice passed away. He'd been one of those great old-style traditional vets who actual observed and examined pets, and he mentored most of the vets there. It was a great practice then. Fast forward to a few years ago. Each visit - different vet and we couldn't specify who we wanted to see. Just like a clinic - impersonal, quick in and out, little exam, write a script, run a few labs, see you later. Still, the staff was great, and it was ok for vax and pulling porcupine quills out of curious dogs' snouts. Then we had a series of awful experiences with them. One day, Dog developed severe separation anxiety. Quick exam, here are antidepressants for Dog. Um, we've had him for six years, and nothing has changed? "It happens" - take pills. Returned a month later, no change. Repeat - minimal exam, different meds. Then we boarded him for a few days there. Dog went nuts, chewing the cage, trying to break out. They said we didn't crate him properly. What? Not at all our first rodeo. We'd been with them for more than 8 years at that point. He's my pup, I'm his mom, I advocated for him. Something is WRONG. They wouldn't listen. Insisted I bring him in for another visit before they'd board him again. I tried one last time. Quick exam, meds not working - referral to Tufts in Boston for their dog psychiatric services. That was the last straw. Finally I asked a friend whose dog is actually has been a little crazy her whole life. His response was instant - you have to go to Simsbury Vet Hospital, Dr. Korten (and his now-retired partner). ONE VISIT - Dog is suffering from severe pain. Dr. K showed me how he could see it the minute we walked in the door, why it explained behavior change. We were hooked and never went back to Salmon Brook. Multiple vets missed it because they weren't looking at Dog, just his chart. For quick fixes, sure, they're fine. For a regular vet who knows your pet - go elsewhere (like down the street a little to Dr. K & his new partner Dr. Humphrey!). Two dogs later, they've helped us out more times than we can count. Salmon Brook just doesn't have that personal touch. When it came time to say goodbye to each of our pups, our experience with Simsbury Vet was hands down kinder and more considerate than our experience with Salmon Brook. Lack of coordination between the veterinarian and office staff resulted in an appointment getting cancelled. The message was NOT passed along to me that my dog needed to be medicated prior to the appointment, despite the vet telling me so at the previous appointment. Previous experiences were good except for the exceptionally high costs for their services, therefore they earn a 2nd star to get to 2/5. I will be looking for other vet offices for future appointments following this below par experience. read more

Brought our 2 year old 140 pound Bernese in for a checkup. We knew the veterinarian from when she was at another clinic and our dog was a puppy. Haven't been happy with them, so we decided to try Salmon Brook. The waiting room was very well laid out with individual area while you wait. The vet saw us, was very thorough, helpful, and friendly. The staff were all the same, even when our Sophie was being difficult. And to top it off, they were about 60 dollars less than the previous place. We will bring all our animals here for sure. A little long, but I have so much to say!... I wish I wasn't moving because I love this place. I took my cat to two vets in the 6 months before I found Salmon Brook. He was a very difficult patient and the previous places refused to really treat him. They would give a generic diagnosis and send us on our way. Salmon Brook vets were incredibly professional and found a tumor, that I'm sure would've been treatable if we had taken him to a competent vet the first two times. Unfortunately, it was not treatable by the time I found Salmon Brook. They gave us meds and he was able to live another 6 months with good quality of life before we had to say goodbye. Every time I called with a question about him or the RX, or anything related to his condition, they ALWAYS helped me. In the end, they recommended two home vets for in home services. I chose an amazing vet (Dr Lisa Peterson) who was so incredibly respectful of us and our pet. read more

on monday feb 26th i brought my 4 month old, 3 year old and 6/7 year old dogs to the vet to get their shots. on thursday feb 29th i brought in a 6 month old puppy. on march 2nd my 4 month old dog started getting diarrhea, i didnt think much about it due to dogs poop fluctuates all the time. march 5th she had vomited over night. so i had put her downstairs while i went to work so she was separated from the other dogs. i get home at 3:00 to see that there were 15+ vomit piles and 2 piles of diarrhea. she was very not herself. i called the vet, Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital they told me to rush her in right away. indy and i waited in the lobby for about 5-10 mins talking to a tech about all the different possibilities i told her when she chews on toys and foreign objects she spits the pieces out usually. i told her i have poisonous plants but i pretty much trained her to leave them alone. i wasnt sure what was going on but i gave her every possibility. they took her in the back and sent me home. at around 6:30 they called to say that if they cant figure out what's wrong with her by 8pm then she'll have to be transferred due to them closing. at 7:30 my boyfriend and i still hadn't gotten a call from them so we went there. the doctor put us in a room to talk to us about what they did. x-rays blood work fluids. but they didn't have a parvo test so they didn't test her for parvo. but she had a mild stomach ache. if she throws up at home bring her straight to an ER. not even an hour after being home she vomited so we rushed her to piper memorial. they told me to have my boyfriend sit in the car while i checked her in. so i checked her in. they then called me and said to go straight into a room with her and they INSTANTLY tested her for parvo and went from there. 10 minutes later the test came back positive and we have the choice of putting her through intensive care with zero guarantee that she will be okay. 8000 dollar minimum. if she needs longer to recover, even more money. i left my vet and went to salmon brook because i heard nothing but good things. they didn't take proper protocol with our dog with parvo. why am i supposed to trust them that another dog didnt have parvo in the lobby february 26th. since her diagnosis they have also back tracked and said that they did have tests march 5th, and they just didnt believe that indy had parvo when she had clear parvo signs. they have also admitted to my boyfriend that they're parvo protocol will be changing going forward. But here i am with one dog still in the ICU since march 5th and my other 6 month on puppy is at home suffering slowly dying because we just don't have the money to try and save both dogs with 0 guarantee that she'll even make it with intensive care. and the most that salmon brook vet can do for us is band me and my mother in law and give my boyfriend back 200 out of the 1000 they charged us for un necessary tests. they failed us as dog owners, failed indy and most importantly failed cali. please share and get the word around to stop using salmon brook. they don't clean there facilities enough to guarantee your dog won't catch anything while they are there. they won't give you the proper treatment your dog NEEDS to survive because they "don't have the test" so they'll rack up your bill with tests that won't even tell what's wrong with your dog and send you on your way with a larger bill then is needed. salmon brook you really should be ashamed. read more

This is not my usual dog vet but I am tempted to switch after my recent experience. My dog got bit by a raccoon and she needed to be seen asap. Salmon Brook was very accommodating, provided great customer service and explained everything in detail. I spoke to 2 doctors and a bunch of techs for the 2 days my dog was there. Everyone was so nice and informative. Beyond thrilled with their team and how they treated my Luna during this traumatic experience. read more

I was very happy to locate this Veterinary Hospital in Granby Connecticut. I had been searching for a couple days for a doctor who would handle pet chickens. When they told me that there was a doctor there who treats poultry I immediately made an appointment and I was seeing the next day with my sick bird. The place was very clean and organized. The examination rooms we're good size. There were three adults in the room along with myself during the examination. The Doctor who examined and treated my hen was very professional and very excited to be able to help me with my her. I would not hesitate to call on them again should I have a problem with my backyard flock. The office visit was fairly reasonably price and comparing that to other veterinary hospitals that I use for the family pet dog to, the price average is about the same. read more

Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital is fantastic! They have extensive hours, the vets are excellent and I my pets have always gotten excellent and timely care. It is very easy to speak to a vet and to get prescriptions filled and refilled for my pets. When my beloved 15 year old Great Pyrenees was ready to pass away, one of the vets came to my home to euthanize him in his familiar surroundings, which was so comforting to us. Completely disappointed with my recent experience. My dog is a rescue and is very anxious at the vet and i always make sure to make that known ahead of time. We had a pleasant experience last year and my dog was able to stay calm with a little treat bribery and the patience of the doctor. Now a year later the same doctor (knowing our situation) tried for only about 10 minutes to go about the exam and the second my dog got upset and difficult to calm down proceeded to tell me there was nothing else we could do and we'd have to reschedule for a different day to finish her vaccinations. This appointment was time sensitive for me as I needed these updated vaccines in order to board my dog at the kennel in two weeks, which was also stressful because appointments usually are made weeks in advance at this veterinary hospital. The only suggestion I got was to medicate her for the next visit with anti anxiety medication and "hope that we get it all done next time otherwise we'd have to keep coming in." I'm so disappointed especially because this doctor knew of my dog's nervous energy while at the vet and she simply gave up without trying any alternative methods to finish the appointment, all while being extremely rude to me. I will not be returning to Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital and do not recommend if you have a nervous or anxious dog. read more

This place has totally worked with me regarding my finances and what my pet truly needs rather than sell me a bunch of crap. I've never met "Jeffrey" but the staff I've encountered is totally into pets and seem to live their jobs! I never felt rushed while asking questions during my appointments- which is huge for me! This week I brought my rabbit Gus in for a neuter and it was by far the best, most seamless experience I have ever had with a vet! First off, it's difficult to find a vet that specializes in rabbit care, as they are considered 'exotic' pets. The surgeon here has a great deal of experience with rabbits, performing 20+ surgeries a year. It also helped that this place only charged $200 for a neuter, whereas all of the other places I called in the greater Hartford area were charging upwards of $400 for the same procedure. Sold! He brought me in for a consultation before I left Gus for the day and was more than happy to answer every question (and I had many), was peppy, enthusiastic - overall good vibes. I picked him up after work around 6 -- also a quick and easy process. Took a total of maybe 5 minutes to fill out the paperwork, pay and have him brought out. The vet techs were extremely helpful in letting me know some things to watch for when I bring him home and to make sure he eats right away, etc. The icing on the cake for me was that they even called me at work the day after to check on him! Really impressive. This vet office truly treats your animal like any other member of the family. I will be bringing my bunnies here moving forward! read more
