The staff is , incredibly kind and professional. They met my boyfriend's shepherd mix when I brought her for a nail trim. Lacy was very anxious but not only did they take their time, they were so kind and truly gained her trust. I just brought her for another nail trim & a Lyme disease vaccine (several months later), and Lacy was not shaking this time. They were again patient and loving towards her. I will be bringing her again for her second Lyme vaccine next week. I recommend PAW very highly. They will love your pet and are in this for the right reasons.

One of my cats is diabetic and Dr. Kim Rio provided him with top notch care. She and her staff assisted me in getting comfortable with the Alpha Trak 3 and conducting a glucose curve in the privacy of my home averting a lot of stress for me and my cat. Dr. Rio accessed the results and advised me as to the proper dosage for my cat. My other cat was unfortunately diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. He was biopsied and treated by Dr. Corey Shagensky. Dr Shagensky allowed me to set him up with home hospice care and supplied me with flavored medicines that could be put in his food. Allowing me to treat and sustain a very difficult terminally ill cat for several months. when the cancer progressed as I knew it eventually would PAW accommodated me with a rather urgent euthanasia and cremation to quickly avert my cats suffering. They treated my passing cat like royalty! The service and treatment at this medical facility is optimum. I am very grateful and pleased with the care that Progressive Animal Awareness offers. I finally found the right veterinary facility and the right Doctors to treat my pets. I LOVE this place!

I have never in my life experienced such an unprofessional and careless veterinary office. I had to…read moretake my 6-month-old puppy to another emergency hospital less than eight hours after leaving this one because his condition rapidly declined. My dog was having a clear negative reaction to a toxin, and we were in this hospital for less than 30 minutes. The "doctor" took him to the back, glanced at him, and made a guess based on something they assumed was from his past. There was no additional testing, no further investigation, and no effort to confirm the diagnosis. I learned later that day that their assumption was completely wrong. By the time we reached the second emergency hospital, my puppy was experiencing tremors, seizures, instability, and could barely walk. Even worse, his gums were pale while we were still at the first hospital, and they didn't even give basic supportive care like IV fluids. What makes this even more disappointing is the interaction I had later that day with the receptionist. When I called--scared, confused, and simply trying to confirm the doctor's notes--she was inconsiderate, defensive, and extremely unprofessional. Instead of listening to a worried pet parent, she acted like a snarky child, cutting me off, speaking short, and giving attitude as if my questions were an inconvenience. It is terrifying that this is one of the only emergency hospitals within a reasonable distance, because the level of care we received was unacceptable. As a pet parent, I rely on trained professionals to guide me--especially when I'm not educated in veterinary medicine. Having to fully trust a medical team that provided such minimal, dismissive, and incomplete care of a 6-month-old puppy is beyond concerning. For an emergency/surgery-focused facility, you would expect attention to detail, urgency, and compassion. What we experienced was the exact opposite. This could have cost my puppy his life.

At the first appointment Dr. Hilliard barely examined my cat in fact she barely looked me in the eye. I spent most of the time in the examination room with the technician. Dr Hilliard had blood and urine work done and diagnosed my cat with diabetes. She prescribed Lantus Insulin and insisted I put my cat through an 8 hour curve in their facility to check his blood sugar levels In a few weeks. Every time I bought my cat in there the technicians were so incompetent they got my cats weight wrong. When I mentioned this to Dr. Hilliard she said I should get over it and move on. Dr. Hilliard claimed my cat was very ill and in dire need of fluids and should be hospitalized. I suggested giving him the fluids myself. The fluids were pricey but I picked them up from their pharmacy and began giving my cat fluids. When I showed up with my cat for the curve, which was rather expensive. The technician was rude and told me she had a lot of patients and did not have time to answer any of my questions and that my cat was due for a rabies shot. When I asked if my cat was well enough for a rabies shot and if Dr. Hillard had authorized it they had no answer. Then the manager Ann-Marie started telling me horror stories about how they may have to euthanize my cat if he bit someone on the staff. Mind you my cat is sweet and docile and has never bitten anyone. Dr. Hilliard later admitted that this rabies shot fiasco was her mistake and that my cat was not well enough for it. They decided not to give my cat a rabies shot and performed the curve. Dr. Hilliard typically communicated with me by email and treated me as if I was an annoyance. When I complained about her indifference she accused me of "threatening" her and suggested that I find another Vet. The Manager Ann-Marie said no other Vet there was willing to work with me and that they really prefer Dogs at that hospital. Everyone that works at Roaring Brook is White which normally wouldn't matter except that most of them seemed a bit sheltered and didn't seem to want to interact with someone outside of their race at all and labeled me difficult because I had standards and expected them to be competent. The Manager Ann-Marie was caring enough to suggest some other facilities one of which was PAWS in Avon and so I have been taking my cat there and what a difference the doctors and technicians there are wonderful. I found out Dr. Hilliard recommended to high an insulin dosage for my cat after that curve, which is downright dangerous. PAWS allows me to do my cats curves at home with an Alpha Trak 3 (which I purchased from them) and they review the results for me. Everyone answers my questions and treats me with dignity and respect. I can check my cats blood sugar levels with the Alpha whenever I want. I will be taking all my cats to PAWS. I would steer clear of Roaring Brook. I find it hard to believe they have any good reviews. The only thing they are good at is getting paid for substandard treatment. Everyone there goes on and on about how many years experience they have and how busy they are but the treatment is riddled with careless mistakes.

They were able to do the routine stuff however their ability for anything beyond yearly check up is severely lacking. We had 2 pets there, first a chocolate lab that was a senior, over 10 years old. They were alright, however Dr Dan saw him once and scared us so bad said he had some kind of heart issue and we may need to get him to an emergency vet ASAP, then came back and said he was fine. We did have him looked at an emergency vet and they could find nothing wrong with him. We let that slide, unprofessional and poor bedside manors but whatever. Then about a year later, just this past February, he was very lethargic and having issues, we called and they said it didn't seem like an emergency and they can get him in about 3 weeks. We decided to go to the emergency vet and in a matter of hours he was gone, I understand how busy it can get but the amount they just shrugged us off was disappointing for being with them for so long. Also he was on prescription food, they refused to give the prescription to Chewy and required we go through their own online store. We did, after he passed we got another delivery of his food, a few weeks later we called and asked about a refund in which they said they do not have a process to refund orders for pets who have passed. I explained to them how Chewy handles that situation, I spoke with Devon, he seemed nice however never actually called me back and gave me an answer one way or the other. I called him back again, he said he was "still working on it" and would get back to me by the end of the day. That was 3 days ago and no word at all. Mind you I was asking for a $130 refund after spending $3160 with them in a matter of 4 weeks. Not long after this our other dog, an 8 year old boxer mix needed a mole removed. They performed the operation and from there it went down hill quick. He developed a severe infection close to where the operation was, we brought him back, they did a quick test and gave us an antibiotic. He did not get better at all and kept getting worse, we went back there paid over $600 for additional tests were given a different antibiotic but still having issues. We called this morning to ask about a different form of medicine, maybe a compounded liquid. You would have thought I asked them to launch a space shuttle, nobody had any idea and "needed to consult the vet and get back to us". It took 3 hours to get a call back and they said try hiding the pill in a marshmallow, that was literally their only response. I expressed kindly that I feel my pet is not getting the care he needs and expressed my dissatisfaction that they seem to just just guessing at things and effectively throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. After I expressed that they then said they can send over a prescription to a pharmacy in southington but I was not able to get the prescription myself. They then followed up with an email giving me the pharmacy info and the info of other emergency vet offices and said we should consider a different vet. This was not an issue because I was already looking for a different one. Overall they seem like at best the practice is poorly managed, the doctors and also front desk associates seem to never actually know what's going on or provide any kind of useful information. Honestly the techs that work there are the only bright spot and must be what is keeping them in business. If you need just a basic checkup and "tech" appointment they are alright, if you need an actual vet / doctor appointment unfortunately they seem to not have the skill and ability to properly care for pets beyond the very basics. Overall a very expensive and disappointing experience and worst of all I believe both of my pets received poor care which created more issues and suffering for them.

Our main doctor is Dr. Tanya Battiston, who by far is the best we have ever come across. What is even better than that is the fact that if we have ever needed to come in and Dr. Battiston was not there, we have always had the best care from each of the Dr's and Techs working at Star Meadow. I can't recommend this practice enough. They truly put the care of the animals ahead of everything else. Let me explain: There was an incident where we had an emergency with our Chihuahua at 6:00 pm. We called Star Meadow and Dr. Battiston was getting ready to leave. After taking our call, walking us through a few things to check and assessing the situation, Dr. Battiston did not recommend for us to take our dog to the Emergency Vet. Instead, realizing the severity of the situation, she told us to come in immediately so that she could see our dog. We got there and within minutes she had diagnosed our dog with blockage in the bladder. After tests to confirm she managed to dislodge the blockage and empty the bladder. The very next day she performed successful surgery! She saved his life! This is the type of care and attention she and the rest of the Doctors and Staff at Star Meadow have always shown all three of our dogs. I have read some of the other reviews where people complain about the wait time, etc... To me that seems a bit ridiculous. I look at it as a positive. This practice is busy at times because they are that good! I would rather wait a few extra minutes (which rarely happens) because I know the Doctors are making sure the animals are being well cared for than enter a factory that pushes the animals in and out to simply make money! This is TOP NOTCH PRACTICE!
