It sucks that my first Yelp review has to be the worst one, but here goes my attempt to saving people from this hellhole. It's been a month since this worst hair cutting experience in the history of hair cuts took place and I was hoping I'd learn to cope with my horrible new style by now, but everytime I look in the mirror I still cringe and want to cry. If I could give this place an infinite number of NEGATIVE stars it still wouldn't be enough.
If you don't want to read my summarized sob story, just know: DO NOT GO HERE and most of all DO NOT LET DIANA TOUCH YOUR HAIR!!
I needed a trim and my usual stylist was on vacation so I turned to Groupon (BAD IDEA) for a deal. This is how I found Salon 1041. There was a Groupon for a shampoo, deep condition, cut and blow out for $25 (at first I thought STEAL) so I called and made an appointment for Sunday, May 18th at 1:30 PM.
Come Sunday, on my way to the Salon there's an accident on the Southern State so at exactly 1:30 I called & spoke to Diana herself & said I was running late. She asked how late & I said it shouldn't take me more than 15 more minutes to get there. I said "1:45 latest" and asked (verbatim) if I should re-schedule but she assured me it was fine and that instead of shampooing, conditioning, cutting and blowing out (as the Groupon stated) that she would just wash and cut. I agreed because I felt terrible for running late.
I got to the salon at EXACTLY 1:43 PM . .13 minutes "late" for my appointment. I later found out through the manager that Diana claimed that I was over 45 minutes late. Even if this was the slightest bit true, what it has to do with her butchering my hair, I don't know.
I got my hair shampooed then Diana took me to her station and asked what I wanted. I said "just a trim" and to fix my side bang. Diana asked if she should bring up my already existing angles in the front and I said yes, to under my chin. I asked her if she wanted to see a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like & she declined.
Obviously Diana was too busy watching "My Cousin Vinny" on the salon's TV (can't make this up) because she completely effed my hair up. I have had people tell me I now have a mullet, have had family members shout "WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOUR HAIR" etc.
I first thought Diana was dropping the scissors and blow dryer towards the end because she was in a rush to finish with me to get to her next customer that was waiting. But no, she must have SEEN the HUGE CHUNK of hair she took off my head and realized "OH SH** I fucked her hair up" and then started dropping all of her tools out of nervousness. It all makes sense now.
Mind you I asked her about 2 or 3 times if she wanted to me WAIT while she handled her other customer but she kept saying no. Diana later told her manager that I told her I was "in a RUSH" meanwhile she was the only one rushing & I even told her NO rush and to TAKE HER TIME.
After the damage was done, (I still couldn't tell at this point since my hair was soaking wet and she ONLY dried my bangs) I tipped her (too well) and left. When I got home at night and looked at my now dry and destroyed hair in the mirror I realized what she had done. I never cry. I saw my destroyed hair and CRIED. Literally.
Instead of a trim with fresh cut angles, I now have BUTCHERED choppy hair. I can't even call it bad angles because the angles are SO uneven and it's a huge misplaced portion of my hair that was completely cut off. It's DEFINIETLY not layers because again, it's just ONE fat "layer." It's basically the whole crown area that went from being back length to literally nose length. She took the crown part of my hair and just chopped it all the way up to where it now sits at a too-short length right under my nose. I don't know what the hell she was thinking or why she did what she did. She literally chopped off about one normal person's head of hair worth from my hair. (I have about 3 average people's head full of hairs on my head, yes it's THAT thick)
My friends all have different theories - maybe she wanted extensions for herself and decided to use my hair, maybe she just hated me at first sight & ruined it purposely, maybe she's really that TERRIBLE of a stylist with NO skills and messed up or maybe she was too distracted by the movie and was rushing and took it out on my precious hair.
There's just no excuse or explanation for what happened to my hair, besides it being a botched job & the WORST cut ever.
I called the salon the next day, but they are closed on Mondays so I called back & spoke to Joe the manager on Tuesday. At first he sounded like he didn't care nor was willing to help, but after a few phone calls he told me to come in so he could "see it" and perhaps try to fix it. Went in on Thursday and he tried salvaging what he could, didn't work. He gave the Groupon money back & offered me a deep conditioning treatment "on the house". No bueno.
