I expressed to Ci Ci the receptionist my concerns and displeasure, and she gladly escalated it to the owner. I don't often use their treatments however they have amazing organic products and recommendations that have assisted in my return to healthy hair. Despite the fact that my hair does grow pretty fast, Yaya (wash tech) and Angela have my hair growing, flowing and Healthy. I'm huge on customer service, and I appreciate that Jeimy the owner has been consistent, she is acutely aware of who I am and what I like. Every chance she gets she shows her concerns to get my hair back to its natural state. This Salon is probably one of the better experiences I've had since I relocated! My go to Dominican salon in the DMV!! They have wash & set specials Tues-Thursday (cash/walk-in only) which is what I always do. It can get kind of packed so try to go early but they always do their best to get you in and out. I always leave with a hair style that I love. They focus on hair care and hair health as well as straightening. I have fine hair and the stylists will stop after the blow dry, skipping the additional flat ironing, because it's not necessary. I tried to give this salon another chance. On Nov 3rd I requested a weave take down and my real hair was cut at the crown. After taking my weave out the stylist took a rat tail comb and tried to comb through my hair. I had to stop her as all I could hear was my hair breaking. I asked for a wider tooth comb she came back with a paddle brush. After I asked for a straight press with flat iron my ends were bumped. I looked like Dora the Explorer. Yesterday I was looking for a new home and I came across a salon close to come which happen to do Hair Botox. They told me it was gonna be $175 and I need 3 treatments which I had to do every 10 days. At first I was like okay, then I thought about it and was like they are crazy. Laying in bed around 1 am I started looking online for Dominican Hair Salon. I came across Salon 809 and read the reviews. Even though they don't offer Hair Botox they do offer Keratin. Honestly I prefer Keratin, if done right and managed it's much better. So on faith this morning I made my way their. I've found a new home. This last visit I came on a Sunday, that had only 1 styles doing blowouts. It was a little packed in there (3 people before me and 4 after) she was moving pretty fast with great results too! I arrived at 12:30p and was out by 2:30p (wash, deep condition, and blowout). At this time I only use this salon for blowout so I'm not familiar with other services. Called this place yesterday and stopped by to get an estimate for a full color which includes a wash, set, blowdry and style and found the receptionist very helpful over the phone and in person and the salon nice and clean. To ensure you know what you're paying up front, it's best to go in person and let them check out your hair. If they feel knots, they charge extra for using a detangler. They even wrap their hand around the thickness of your hair to determine density which can add to the cost. All said, the total cost for the requested services for my hair (thick, wavy, a little past past shoulder length) would be between $195-$220 so I'll get a few more estimates before deciding to come back. read more

If you talked to your staff about how hot the dryers are (bc there's a lot of complaints about that) and how not to talk about how tired they are or what they would rather be doing while doing someone's hair then it's alll cool. Someone recommend Salon 809 so I thought o would give them a try. I went on a Sunday around 1:30 pm. When I arrived I was greeted by Stephanie who was very nice. She told me about the services, all the specials, and the days I could get them. I shows her a picture of what I wanted and she said they could do a version of it and told me how much everything would cost. I said okay and told her I wanted to get a cut/wash/set, which was $70. I was only waiting 10 minutes when I was called back to the shampoo bowl. The shampoo lady Sandra did a good job of shampooing my hair. When she finished, she rolled my hair and sat me under the dryer. Shortly after, Stephanie came over and offered me something to drink. So far so good. About 45 minutes later the stylist Angela signaled for me to come to her station. I showed her a picture of the haircut that I wanted and she said "okay" and that she understood. When I tried to ask questions to ensure she was clear on what I wanted she would interrupt me and assure me she knew what I wanted. When she finished I was styled with lots of curls which is not what I asked for. I'm not sure what the haircut looks like so I'm going to have to wait until I shampoo my hair again to see if it's what I asked for. The salon was clean and the staff was friendly. It wasn't a bad experience; I just don't know if I got the cut I wanted because of all the tight curls. I will say this - they got me in and out in 1.5 hours, which was nice. I brought my daughter in for her annual back to school straightening. We came to this salon last year and we were there for over 6 hours, I'm sure due to the rush/back to school special they were running/time we arrived, etc. This year, I came early (5 mins after they opened at 9:30) with hopes to be out within 3 hours or so. My daughter has long, thick natural hair so I know her dryer time is longer, and last year they tacked on an extra $10.00 because of her length so I already fully expected some extra waiting and to pay a little more for her services. Four and a half hours later, my daughter was finally finished and when I went to pay, I was told there was an extra $25.00 charge due to the length and density of her hair. I told who I assume was the manager that they should probably point the extra charge out to patrons before writing up their tickets (you get a ticket to carry around with you from start to finish so everyone knows what you're getting). She said that the policy was written and displayed, which it was. However, the policy doesn't state how MUCH extra you should expect to pay, and being caught off guard is never fun. I was a little annoyed with myself for not asking what the specific charge would be, but I figured I had a rough idea based on last year's situation. It felt like I was being penalized for her having healthy hair. The end result was decent, but I probably won't return. *update to previous review. So apparently the business doesn't offer up front pricing because they are afraid to offend people. This makes no sense. Give your customers the opportunity to decide what they will and won't pay for, up front. If your "upcharge" for length and density is discretionary, make it plain. Also, my daughter informed me that your shampooer had an attitude and sucked her teeth because she had to detangle her hair...which is normal if you're dealing with thick natural hair. I've been getting my hair done at the same salon since I was 5 and I'm 21. So I be real investigative when trying some place new. I go to school in DC and live in MD, so I tried this place based on the reviews. First impression: really professional, love the jewel walls, color layout everything!! & they gave out a free beverage (even to my friend who was waiting with me) so nice! The wait to get my hair shampooed was real short, but I did wait a bit to get my hair blown out (which is the main reason i don't sit under the dryer) although two people who came after me were done before me I still rated a 5 bc the end product was amazing! IF YOU HAVE THICK NATURAL HAIR STAY AWAY!!! First off the lady at the front desk was very rude to every customer. I found this place browsing on yelp in desperate need of a blow out after my stylist cancelled on me. I expressed to her that this was my first time here and I wanted my hair washed, deep conditioned, blow dryed, and straighten. She responded by saying okay well thats called a blow out I didn't respond to her rude sarcastic tone. She gave me a ticket and I asked how long would the wait be and she pointed to customers sitting down and said all those people are in front of you so I just sat down.. next the shampoo lady just screams next and customers are to just pay attention to the order everyone came in there is no number on the ticket.. well its finally my turn and I go back and start getting my hair washed.. I told her that I detangled my hair as best as I could but she more than likely needs to comb back through it because I have very thick coarse hair in between 4b and 4c.. she combs through and washes it then tries to come it again but from the roots not the proper way which is from the ends to roots.. at this point my hair feels like a tangled mess and she is speaking to the other employees in spanish about my hair. I don't know speak Spanish but as she is combing my hair she kept dropping the the comb then yelling. Next I waited for a stylist to blow out my hair. This is where I got extremely irritated. I was instructed to wait for the next stylist but they skipped over me twice im assuming because my hair would take more work.. so after the 2nd person who came after me went before me I spoke up and asked what order are yall going in and they said based on who came first. I pointed out that I was here before the 2 customers and they said your next and proceeded to talk trash in spanish. At this point I am fed up. 20 minutes later the older lady whose booth is in the corner started my hair.. she blow dried is very rough its like none of them take pride in keeping your hair healthy they just rake the comb from the root to the ends. She claim she had to blow dry my hair through 2 times because it was too thick.. she kept asking to cut my hair. I only straighten my hair once a year and do dusting in between protective styles. She sucked her teeth because I told her she could not cut my hair. I only let my mother cut my hair because people will cut too much and I want my hair!! It felt like she was doing a good job flat ironing but then when she was done she sprayed this wet mist 5 too many times on my hair which is completely natural causing the roots to frizz in certain places by time I got home. I have been coming here for a year and I loooove this salon. Angela is my favorite stylist and I wait for her if she is busy.The receptionist CiCi is so much fun we chat about all kinds of stuff. I try to get in there Tues or Weds when a wash and set is 25 dollars. Today is Friday therefore my usual was a bit more and i got my eyebrows waxed as well. The shampoo ladies recognize me which is really sweet. If you want your natural or relaxed hair in the Dominican blowout style all the ladies do a fantastic job. I am a local actress and I got a notice from a gig that I had to straighten my hair last minute. I had to find a salon that was open on Sundays, found Salon 809 and saw the raving reviews so I made an appointment. The lady at the front desk was really nice but the shampoo lady seemed irritated that she had to wash my thick natural hair. She was sucking her teeth and sighing and all that. I ignored it because it wasn't the first or the last time i was treated that way. I wanted a roller wrap because it tends to be more gentle on hair than the blow out but was told "My hair was rejecting the rollers" i.e. I don't know how to use rollers on kinky hair. It's been done so I know it's possible. So I went with the blow out. I've had a dominican blow out before and know the works and know that my hair can survive it......after being blowed out and straightened by another stylist (she was nice) my hair looked GREAT. Fast forward a week later I wash my hair and it does not curl back up...it's limp and thin. At first I assume it's heat damage but that usually happens on sections of your hair, not your WHOLE ENTIRE HEAD. Fast forward months later and my hair has steadily been breaking off to the point where I now have to cut it off....because my roots are super thick and the rest of my strands look like a relaxer gone wrong. Moral of the story....if you want your hair to look amazing for the moment go here! But just know you may lose your hair in the long run. Your choice. read more

My experience at this salon today wasn't all that great... Reasons: 1. Unprofessional receptionist 2. Long wait time I have read a couple of reviews about the receptionist's attitude and unfortunately I have to admit that it is true. She has absolutely no understanding of what it means to provide customer service. She definitely needs some level of training as soon as possible because she can single handedly cause a business to lose customers. When I arrived, there was a young girl in front of me waiting to get her hair shampooed. After noticing that no one was at the shampoo station and realizing we had been sitting there for about 10 minutes I got up and asked the receptionist if she knew when the shampoo tech would start washing hair. Keep in mind I'm only asking because I'd like to have some type of idea as to how long my visit there will take. Her response was... I don't know when she will be back, I mean she hasn't eaten all day and she is on her lunch break! We only have one shampoo tech today. I was surprised by the fact that she replied with an attitude, because all I did was ask when she would be back. I said, ok, sooooo you have no idea when she will be coming back? She said, with an attitude.... No, I'm not over their schedule and that has nothing to do with me, she hasn't eaten all day! I then said, I don't have a problem with anyone taking their lunch break, but you have people waiting...can you at least try and find out when she will be back and let me know? She reluctantly agrees, goes into the break room , comes back out and purposely says nothing to me, which is so childish and silly. She answers the phone, talks to one of the stylists and when she is done she still doesn't say anything. So I get up and ask her if she had any info on the shampoo tech. She says, I mean she is back there ( maybe she was in the bathroom, bc I didn't see her at the shampoo bowl). I said so you weren't going to follow up with me at all? She claimed she had been on the phone and was busy. She then started talking to another stylist ( Angela) in Spanish... probably about me. I just walked off . I can't even remember the last time I went back and forth with anybody. The sad part is she probably thought she did nothing wrong. However, she was very rude and unprofessional. Apparently she also told the lady that was shampooing hair that I had a problem with her taking a break. I came to this conclusion bc the lady was apologizing to me saying she hadn't had lunch. I had to explain that I did not have a problem with her taking a lunch break it's just that no one knew what was going on bc it wasn't communicated through the receptionist and on top of that she had an attitude! She did a good job shampooing my hair and was very nice. My only complaint would be with certain types of hair you have to start detangling at the ends not the roots. Not doing so could cause a lot of damage. Angela was my stylist. She did a good job on my hair . However, I can't really say she was very welcoming for the "most" part, she was nicer towards the end of my visit though. This may have had something to do with the rude receptionist possibly telling her I was mad because the shampoo tech took a lunch break... which was not the case at all as I explained earlier. This current receptionist has no customer skills and honestly the last one really didn't either. I think that they forget that they are representing a business and they need to be professional even when they don't feel like it, because that is how you conduct yourself as an employee of a business. ;) Additional notes: This place is set up so that clients do not have to wait long to get their hair done. However, every time I have come here it takes 3-5 hours. To get my hair done. Today it took 3 hours and it wasn't even busy. Also, I wasn't informed by the receptionist that regardless of whether you request Angela or not there is a $5 up charge when she does your hair. I was charged an extra $5 and didn't know why until I had the receptionist explain, which was another exhausting conversation...smh This place promotes hair growth and good quality products, but the times I have been there none of the stylists really try to make any type of suggestions regarding how to get your hair healthy or make any recommendations etc. You just sit in the chair, they take the rollers out, style it and it's on to the next ... that's been my experience. To be fair their products are good, I like the organic conditioner but I guess I was expecting more suggestions/ recommendations from the stylists I have gone to there. Anyway, that's just my 2 cents.... I decided that today will be my last time visiting this establishment.
