I had searched for several months trying to find a really good salon. I spoke with the owner and she was really nice and knowledgeable. we agreed on an appointment time on a Friday afternoon. I have to say that was mistake #1. The actual salon is very small and crowded with chairs and stuff. No where to comfortably wait for your appointment time if you are early or on time. My stylist was a really sweet young woman who presented herself nicely. I am older and I am careful about my hair. I have a base color with purple highlights. My first visit didn't go well and I should have paid attention to that. I sat and waited while my stylist also did 2 other people while she was working on me. Unsure of what she should do to help me within her limited time, I ended up leaving with my hair wet and not being able to actually see what she had done. I got a decent base color but with caramel colored highlights. I did not like this at all. I was very dissatisfied. But, I gave them a second chance to be sure. My second visit was better because I went during the middle of a weekday. My results were even more disturbing to me. My base color washed out the first time I washed it and my now purple highlights of only 7 foils turned to a light purple which is not becoming to my skin tone. My cut was something that I could have done myself because there was no layering and just a straight bottom cut which does nothing for my curls. The biggest shock was the amount I was charged. $230! The most expensive I have ever paid anywhere in the US for a simple hair service. I will not recommend this salon. read more

Where to even start? I called same day and made an appointment with Whitney for a cut. (I had called two other salons and they had no availability ) I was a few minutes late on account of being the mama to an 8 month old, and running behind on my day (as always). When I walked in I was greeted with a smile and a warm welcome nonetheless. The Salon was absolutely adorable, and the staff were so friendly. The building itself isn't too large, but it is decorated and staffed to make it feel absolutely delightful. I hadn't cut my hair for well over a year and it was at my waist at this point, but I didn't want to be away from my baby too long (feeling mom guilt) so I washed it myself before going. When I sat in the chair and explained this to Whitney, telling her about the guilt I was feeling for being away from my little one to treat myself like this, she then insisted that I get the full experience. "You can't pour from an empty cup" she said, and that is one of my very favorite quotes. So she shampooed, cut and styled and at the end of it I couldn't be any happier. If I could give 10 stars, I would in a heartbeat. Thank you so much Whitney! I have been what I thought was a valued client and customer of this business however I was just proven wrong and treated POORLY! Mainly by a very unprofessional receptionist who's name is Haley!! My job has hectic hours and it is sometimes an on-call basis and I had an appointment here and had to cancel. It was on a Monday so of course the salon was not open HOWEVER I did Leave a very detailed message that I would not be able to make my appointment the next day due to being called in to work! The following day at my appointment time they are calling my phone asking where I am and when I had a chance I called them back and said what do you mean I left a detailed voicemail that I had to cancel this appointment and that I would reschedule when I had a chance! And then she(rude Haley) proceeds to tell me that they would be charging my credit card anyway for half of the balance because I missed my appointment!! Excuse me I did not miss my appointment I had to reschedule it due to work - which is how you pay for appointments by going to work! They told me because of their 24 hour cancellation policy that they would be charging my card! Which I canceled it through voicemail on their 24 hour policy however they say that they did even get my voicemail! At any rate they charged my credit card for half of the payment of a service that I never received nor did I authorize payment on this credit card! Very shady business and very unprofessional *the owner was supposed to call me this morning to try and figure this out however I haven't heard from her either! Which is also very unprofessional! At any rate I have filed a legal claim with my bank and they will be investigating them and the fact that they did an unauthorized charge of my bank account which is illegal! And also I'm leaving this review here and comment to hope that this doesn't happen to anyone else! And I will get my money back! And they will be getting several bad reviews on every site I can express my opinion! And I also will be calling the Better Business Bureau to let them know that they charged my card without approval! Also I wish I didn't even have to give them one star!!! And it's too bad for my hairdresser because her name is Ashley and she's amazing! read more

I have been going here since a year now, and I'm still experimenting with all of the hair stylists. However, Elisha has by far been my favorite so far. She did a cut and color on me, and I absolutely loved it. She is a great conversationalist too and makes your visit relaxing and enjoyable. She is a skilled hair stylist and is always willing to listen and work with your style, while patiently answering any questions you may have. The salon itself is very welcoming, cozy and relaxing, way different than any of my previous salons where you wait outside in a waiting room flipping through magazines, waiting to be called in. Instead they have a little table you can hang out at INSIDE the salon, and it gives the whole salon an inviting and warm vibe because you just get sucked into conversations (unless you prefer to just sit buried in your social media, then that's perfectly acceptable too!). It is conveniently located near the West Cabarrus Y, across from the Wine Room with lots of convenient parking. They also have timings that work with most schedules. Kim and her team are doing a great job with this salon. I see myself coming back for years if they remain this way. read more

I so wish I could give the Salon five stars. However, after three visits, I feel overcharged when I leave. Dianne is fabulous but not upfront about cost. Dale Smith is simply the best. I was referred to him about 5 years ago. He has transformed me. My hair is beautiful now but best of all, HEALTHY. No more frizzy hair. You can see the curls. Be prepared for big surprises at checkout! This was my second visit. Same stylist, same partial highlight and trim (I have long, thin, straight hair). Last visit it cost $110, this time it cost $170!!!! Online when I booked it said it would be $110. I informed the lady at checkout and she basically said "sorry, this is what you are going to pay." I have never paid this much for a partial highlight and trim. I didn't get any fancy products or treatments or anything. I will never go back, which is a shame, because I liked my stylist and thought she did a good job. read more

I first found Anna from Salon Afton on TikTok after several weeks of watching her videos on the amazing hair transformations she does and researching her salon, I finally decided to contact her on Instagram to ask a few questions. She responded really quickly and made it clear that she would be happy to answer any and every question I had and I had a lot of them. Keep in mind I was looking for fantasy mermaid hair, if you aren't familiar with this type of hair service, I am attaching photos of my hair after the fabulous Anna worked her magic! Any hair color can be complicated but mermaid hair is super complex and can become a mess really quickly. Hence all of the research and questions for Anna. After a few messages back and forth Anna completely put me at ease and I called Salon Afton to book an appointment. I arrived at the Salon just a few minutes before my appointment time at which point there was a note on their door that explained all of their COVID-19 precautions, which I really appreciated! Their receptionist opened the door for me, checked my temperature and checked me in. She was really nice and showed me Anna's chair. Anna quickly came and introduced herself, after my messages with Anna I felt so comfortable I asked her to chose my colors herself and surprise me. SHE DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!!!! MY HAIR IS INCREDIBLE!!!! One thing I didn't share with Anna is that I'm super hard to please when it comes to my hair. I kind of just deal with being unhappy as I feel I'm just super picky and it's not really my stylist fault. However EVERYTHING Anna did was perfect from the color to the cut. I have super sensitive scalp and this queen even directed me toward hair products that don't irritate my scalp! I don't know what kind of sorcery she's into, but I'm here for it. Aside from being amazingly talented, I appreciate her personality. She's really kind and extremely professional as was everyone I interacted with at the salon. The salon it's self was very clean and nicely decorated. I felt the prices of the products were extremely reasonable, I also felt that the prices for Anna's services were more than reasonable. Omg.. Kim brought the beauty and vibrance back into my rapidly graying hair. I always used to maintain beautiful red hair until pregnancy ruined my locks. When I was finally ready for color again I went to Salon Afton because I was so impressed by the perfect and adorable haircut Elisha gave my 4 year old son who has autism (in under 9 minutes!). It was his first haircut and she provided a wonderful and quick experience for him. While I was there I noticed how clean it was and how professional all the staff were. So I booked Kim to color and highlight my hair Auburn red again and also to do my makeup and an updo for a wedding I had coming up. The base color, the highlights, their placement and the overall dimension of my hair now is quite literally a big attention getter. People notice my haircolor wherever I go and I am always getting compliments! As if that weren't enough, i was having a wardrobe crisis the morning of the wedding and was forced to go out and look for a brand new formal dress to wear, same day, in under 3 hours. Needless to say I was extremely stressed out when walking into my appointment with Kim for updo and makeup an hour late! Well she accommodated me no problem and made it happen! She listened to my wardrobe woes, handed me a beer and gave me a special head massage! Now if that wont make you relax and unwind, I dont know what will! Then we discussed my vision and her recommendations for my hairstyle and makeup that day and she got to work! I have to admit though, I am VERY picky and will comment and request little additions or changes constantly. Kim never missed a beat and obliged my every desire for my own personal look. Turns out, the makeup didn't quite come out the way I had hoped and i just wasn't happy with the look. Not Kim's fault at all! She did precisely what I asked of her, just so happened that the look I first had in mind just didn't suit me. Did she let that bother her? NOT ONE BIT! She took the makeup remover, wiped my face clean and with renewed inspiration she let the creative sparks fly. All along mind you, with my remarks and requests for a touch of this, a touch of that, in order to guide her toward my preferences. The result was absolutely stunning. An absolutely gorgeous application of makeup for a formal occasion that was flattering, age appropriate, and complimentary to my dress. I explained in detail what I liked, didn't like, my vision and ideas, and the look I wanted to portray: Mature but not Old, Classy & Elegant, Not too Bold but Soft and Attractive. Then she gave me a loose asymmetrical part and a side swept bang that showcased the amazing quality of my haircolor and highlights, and her expertise as the colorist who applied them. The rest was a sexy chic cascade of ringlets on the right side of my hairdo flowing luxuriously down to my shoulder. Having the back of my hair lifted off my neck revealed even more dimension in a darker pallet of garnets on the underside of my hair (the sun brings this out beautifully). From top to bottom my hair now has a very attractive summertime fusion from a touch of gold and caramels blended expertly into coppers and auburns all resting upon a deep crimson underlay. What I've noticed after playing with it is that this combination of colors has neverending versatility! All I have to do to change the look entirely is brush it a different way, move the part, spread out the highlights or draw up the hints of dark burgundy from the roots and I can create several different layers, textures and looks based on my mood or my wardrobe. I have never been so pleased with the interpretation and execution of my requests when having my hair professionally colored. Too many times I've felt like I've wasted a ton of money by having a colorist dye my hair the way "they" envision it, or what "they" want to give me based upon what "they" think I need. Kim listened to every request and concern down to every detail and she focused intently on utilizing her skills and expertise in order to create the look I desired and an amazing salon experience. read more

I'm new to town, and searched yelp for a trendy salon, as I enjoy playing with my hair color. My previous salon had not been doing my color any favors, and I've hated my hair for a while. Yes, hated. Salon Afton was so inviting. I arrived early, and was greeted by a super friendly receptionist. Every stylist had gorgeous hair, and they all looked well put together. The salon itself is very cute, different, and fun. I was scheduled with Whitney. She listened to my concerns, and I even showed her pics of the colors I wanted. I knew it would be a process to go from a heavily highlighted blonde with lots of dark brown hair underneath. My goal is strawberry blonde ombre. She made me feel comfortable the entire time, making conversation, and walking me through what she was doing. The owner, Kim, even stopped by my chair at one point, and had a conversation with me. Everyone was so nice. I really felt relaxed, and well taken care of. I wanted to cry tears of JOY when everything was done, my hair looked and felt amazing. Whitney definitely got the process going well underway. I ended up much lighter, with a beautiful red at the top of my head, masterfully blended into blonde. It's seriously gorgeous, and the complements haven't stopped. I can't wait to go back. This place is top notch, and prices were super reasonable. I called and got an appointment. I did not request anyone by name. I did read the reviews on yelp to get a feel for the place. I was given an appointment with Anna. She was very pleasant, listened to what I wanted, asked questions, made suggestions. I left with the exact cut I had been trying to get for the last 15 months. How happy was I? Absolutely the worst experience of my life. I arrive and the stylist I book with said she had to go but I'm in good hands. So I'm with this new girl who is very unsure of herself and winds up making me look like a skunk when all I asked for was a simple brunette balayage. Adding insult to injury she made my hair the frizziest nastiest mess of product so I need to go wash it right away at home. Let's not forgot the MASKLESS child screaming in my face and having her bloody tooth in my face.
