First, the cute and friendly receptionist will ask you a few questions about the services you want and hair type. I feel a bit bad that I'll actually be decreasing their overall score by giving them a 4-star review, but a 5-star rating must be reserved for only the truly extraordinary. If they are consistently great with a variety of services, I will adjust accordingly. Their website is informative and straightforward, although whomever thinks loud music is ever a good idea for a website should be heavily fined. They state on the site that first time patrons receive a 10% discount, and the receptionist (who may have been the owner) gave me the discount at checkout without my having to ask, which I appreciated. For my relatively simple haircut, I was assigned Justine. By a sheer stroke of luck, she also happened to be Korean. While a competent stylist should be able to handle all types of hair, it's nice to have someone who has hair like my own, so this was an unexpected bonus. Justine was attentive to my request, skilled with her shears and layering tools, and gave me an excellent blowout, all under 45 minutes. I plan on returning to Salon Artigiano for my highlights next time. Justine has managed to turn her own black hair into platinum blond (seriously--Gwen Stefani blond) without wrecking its texture, so she clearly knows what she's doing. The price is fine-45 dollars for a hair wash cut and style (this was before the 10% discount), and I believe Justine was a "senior stylist" which commands a higher price point than some others. Salon Artigiano gets five stars for the only reason I go there: Stephanie! She is more or less the only person who has been allowed to touch my hair since I found her over 10 years ago. I have straight, fine hair that most stylists won't do anything fun with, they just give me mom layers and walk away. Not Steph. She always makes my hair look exactly how I want it to look, even when I don't know how exactly to explain what I want. The best part about her haircuts is that not only do they look great and work PERFECTLY when she first cuts them, but they also look great when they grow out, which I've never experienced before. I don't know how she does it. I don't even live in town anymore, but I make special trips back home to go see her when I need a haircut, because I've tried other places and other stylists, and well, they just don't GET my hair. And it's not just my stupid boring fine hair that she's amazing with. I've sent about four or five people over (my mom, my little brother, and 2-3 friends) and they all have different styles and hair texture, and everyone has always been super happy with her work. As for the salon itself, I do like it a lot. The decor has a fashionable yet warm and welcoming feel. They have a table with an array of snacks (you don't find this in too many places) and comfortable waiting area furniture, which of course is a really nice touch if you have to wait for any reason. I've never had to wait, though, and have always been seen at my appointment time. The scheduling and business side of things is run very well and every person there is a true professional, and they don't seem to overbook the stylists -- and as we all know, it is really important not to feel rushed when you're chopping hair off people's heads. :) This may seem common sense but I've been to places where the people act like they can't wait to get you out of the chair. This place is still very efficient, but in a relaxed and friendly way. I can't say enough good things about Steph and will always recommend her to everyone, but if she's not available when you come in, they have such a wide variety of stylists there that you are sure to find the right one for you, no matter your age or style. I was ecstatic when I called Salon Artigiano the other day and they were able to squeeze me in last minute for a color and cut! I'm not a good planner so when I can get accommodated like that, it's always appreciated. Alyssa is a brilliant stylist and every time I walk out of their salon I stand a little taller--because I feel and look great. Extra touches like a mini-massage after she applies the color and little snacks in the waiting area are always nice. I would also highly recommend Heather whom I have gone to before. Their services are mainly hair as I did not see any indication on nails or other beauty services. I've been coming here for just over a year for haircuts and color. And what keeps me coming back is Justine! She is quick and efficient with the scissors and great with color. I also brought my SD here for a haircut (she (the SD) has issues with saying what she wants) and Justine worked her magic and SD was thrilled with the results. Also the shop is good about contacting you if there is a problem with scheduling. I found this salon on Yelp & because of all the good reviews I made an appointment. I was paired with Justine. She was super friendly and engaging. Best of all, I love my hair cut! After blow drying my hair, she used an amazing steam iron to straighten it. It made my colored, frizzy hair silky smooth and shiny! I haven't loved my hair so much in a very, very long time. Yesterday, what should have been a simple tone and cut turned out horrible. My hair was bleached, which it shouldn't have been. And the hair cut was horrible, absolutely no texture to it. Did not honor price quote. I needed makeup done and I was quoted $60 for regular makeup over the phone. The day of the service, the MUA asked what event I'm attending and I tell her a wedding. After, the cashier asked for $85. I asked about the price discrepancy and she says "wedding makeup" costs more. Makeup brands used were e.l.f. and nyx. I brought my own lashes and glue and I was still charged $5 for application. I wish the salon honored the price they quoted over the phone, more price transparency needed. read more

I have been a client of the salon for a few years. I never had a reason to be dissatisfied. However, my most recent experience with Heather cutting my hair was completely unsatisfactory. Before starting, I discussed what I wanted and showed her a picture of the style to confirm. It was basically the same style that I already had, just a little bit shorter. When she was finished I was shocked to see how much hair she cut off. It looks like a boys very short haircut. She had to use a lot of paste to keep sections of my hair from sticking up and kept saying how great it looked. I'm not sure if she was trying to convince me or herself. I should have complained immediately but I was so shocked that I just wanted to leave. I even paid but in hindsight I realize that I should have refused to do so. This never should have happened. I communicated my expectations in advance and she appeared to understand what I wanted. As stated above, it was basically a slighter shorter version of the style I already had. If she couldn't do it she should have said so. I personally feel that she made a mistake while cutting and wound up cutting it very short to match the mistake. I know that it will grow back. But that will take many months. Additionally, I maintain a professional appearance for work and the way my hair looks right now does not fit that appearance. I'm very disappointed and I will not be going back there which is a shame because overall I feel that it's a good salon. I don't give second chances when it comes to my hair though. read more

I've been coming to Salon Artigiano ever since I moved to Hamilton a couple of years ago. In the past, I've jumped from salon to salon, but this is the first place that I've kept coming back to because of the stylist Alyssa. She has me looking like a superstar every time I leave! The cut and color are both always on point. And it looks great when it grows out too. I always get SOO many compliments! I definitely recommend Alyssa, especially if you want/have short/pixie hair or want great color. Or if you just want something fun and different! She is a talented, creative artist. I usually get textured short cuts and blonde color with light brown low-lights, and recently she dyed my hair pink and it looked awesome! You can really tell that hair is her passion and she truly loves what she does. Alyssa is very knowledgeable about the latest hair trends and what products to use. She really cares about her clients too. And she's so nice and easy to talk to. The salon itself is welcoming, clean and well-run. The Salon itself wasn't the reason for two stars, it was my hair stylist that made my experience the worst and most painful visit I ever had. Heather really worked my head so rough, after two days it's still sore from her nails and the brush she was digging into my scalp. From the beginning her face showed so much dissatisfaction I immediately felt uncomfortable so I didn't talk much. I agreed to everything she told me so she would hurry up and finish, even when she asked if i was okay i just nodded because i wanted it to pass quickly without any more issues. The last couple of minutes I couldn't take it anymore and moved my hair out of face but she insisted that I shouldnt because i was ruining what she was doing. I cried on the way home because my scalp was just on fire! The hair cut itself wasn't bad but it wasn't what I wanted. The price wasn't bad at all it was very reasonable but I will rather pay more to not have my scalp torn up by someone. No thanks... read more

Best haircut of my life, hands down. I had long hair for a few years, and decided to go back to having really short hair. However, I have curly hair and I wanted it just long enough that my hair would still curl (it curls just above the roots) and its always difficult to find someone that cuts curly hair correctly, especially when you're going from long to really short. She really listened to what I wanted and it worked out amazingly. The worst part is that I don't live in NJ, I was there visiting. I approached a new salon with caution for ombré coloring and given an appt. with the owner Alyssa. She seemed friendly, appeared stylish with multiple-colored hair of her own so I immediately felt comfortable. However, after explaining how I simply wanted to recolor my blonde ombré ends, she said no problem. She stared to hi light my hair mid-way down my head, leaving large chunks out and clearly half way through the process was in over her head. After washing my hair out, there were chunky, harsh lines null throughout my hair, not a blended look. She then proceeded to "fix" the lines by taking BLACK hair dye and giving me low-lites. I also should mention that while waiting for my hair to lift the first time, she left me under the heat lamp for 75 minutes... Totally unheard of. I was asked to pay before I was even finished, and charged more than I was quoted because it was so late in the evening that the receptionist wanted to leave. I came back the next day, after a night practically in tears and another stylist who I will not mention her name, did whatever she could to fix my hair, recoloring, recutting (how could I forget the completely uneven trim I had received??) and she did a fabulous job, she also explained that not many of the stylists knew how to color ombré style in their salon.... Even another stylist had come over, and they repeatedly assured me that it was a botched job and helped me through color correction. It is still not 100% where I wanted to be, but I left feeling very confident, but was comfortable enlightened with the stylist herself to give the salon one more try. I made another appt, only to get called back by the owner explaining that they are not comfortable in doing my hair. ARE YOU KIDDING ME.... You destroyed my hair, and now you will not take my money again for the CHANCE at maintaining a customer that in all other worlds would NEVER return to your business... Good riddance.... You shouldn't list a service on your website that you clearly don't offer!!!! Plus, the second time when making the appt I was asked about 4 times for my phone number, 5 times to spell my name, she confirmed my appt for the wrong month. Get some competent people to answer your phone....I reached out to the stylist on my own to make sure the appt. was set and perhaps that wasn't the proper means of communication leaving her uncomfortable but I suppose I should have known I wouldn't be comfortable with returning there. I went awhile back and my experience was mixed. It was in the middle of the day on a weekday. It was very busy and loud with individual customers like myself and a wedding party there for hair and makeup. I was warmly greeted by the person at the reception desk. Things were not so great after that. The wedding party and their guests were either getting hair and makeup done or walking around the salon. The lady who shampooed my hair was so distracted, she stopped and asked me how many times she shampooed my hair as she was about to apply more shampoo. My stylist didn't say much to me during my visit. That's fine, sometimes I just feel like relaxing when getting a haircut anyway. She did however, stop several times mid-cut to talk with someone she knew in the wedding party. She also spent alot of time watching everything else going on in the salon while she was cutting my hair. My haircut was okay, not really anything special. As I left, the woman at the front desk was once again very friendly. I haven't gone back for another haircut. Maybe I will give this place another chance. I used to live in CT and had a dedicated hair salon I used there for most of my life. We recently moved near here and I was looking for a new salon. I don't trust many people with my hair because I have had bad hair cuts in the past from various salons. The reviews on Yelp made me believe I could trust this salon with my hair. My hair is usually dry, coarse, and think. The hair stylist Alyssa knew exactly the type of products I should use for my hair. She seemed very knowledgeable. She also advised me that I should have a hair cut every 12 weeks or so to get rid of dead ends (I usually get a hair cut every 1-2 years and it was good to be told I shouldn't continue doing that). She seemed to know what was best for my hair and I appreciated her feedback. She did a very nice haircut and blow out. She even straightened my hair and I'm usually nervous when hair stylist use straightening irons because I have heard horror stories about ears being burned. Look no further! You do not have to go to NY or Philadelphia for a FABULOUS haircut! Hair and color experts. I have had all shades all cuts for years and I hesitated when I thought about a Salon because I had been going to the same hair stylist for 10 years and was happy. But I needed a change, something different. I had a girlfriend that has gone here and she said how about you try it! I am SO GLAD I did! I came out of the salon looking like someone I didn't know. I mean makeover city.. the hair, the color, the cut! I couldn't believe it. When I left the salon, the customers would say, love your color! Now I have to say, I never buy the products at any salon because I think they are overpriced.. I was told that these hair products are different. That you only need a tiny amount of Colorproof and only to shampoo every other day. I am a creature of habit you can tell by the look on my face so they said, condition every day but only shampoo every other The product was $28 for a small bottle but LET ME TELL YOU my hair NO LONGER falls out..yes I said it, "Falls out".. my husband would say I needed to see a doctor because my hair was falling out. I am no longer shedding all over the place picking off hair on my clothes. Eight weeks later I still have more than 1/2 the bottle I though they were kidding.. THEY WEREN'T. The price was well worth it and my hair is nothing like it was before and the color DID not fade.. Did you read that... DID NOT FADE.. Now lets talk about the stylist. I had Alyssa she was FANTASTIC... She told me what colors to stay away from and let me pick my color and told me what she was doing and the type of cut I would look best... I said work your magic. She did. Now the second time (yes I went back :).. I changed it up a bit went to a DARK Burgundy color and a cut that was choppy no picture just explained what I wanted.... and Alyssa once again did it... I couldn't believe it was me and I was so happy with what they did. Now let me just say you get what you pay for! Let me explain.. Every two weeks I would have to go for trims for my bangs (yes I still wear bangs) with my other stylist. Now when I booked my second appt. with this salon I said 8 weeks thinking I know I am going to go get a bang trim sometime before then. I never needed a bang trim.. and the hair grew in as if I didn't even need a cut but a trim. I didn't think it was possible. I felt like my hair was art and Alyssa took the time for each piece to lay like it should and there you have it.... Thank you I am so glad I found it.. I look at it this way you are worth every penny to have yourself pampered looking like a million bucks. When I leave here and go home, I feel great because I look great. I visited this salon a couple months ago and had high expectations. It was my first visit and they fit me in very quickly. The salon was extremely clean and very pretty. The entire staff was very friendly. I have been trying to find a new hair salon and thought this could be it! When I called to make my appointment, I was paired with Heather. Heather took her job as a stylist very seriously, maybe even a bit too seriously. She spent my entire haircut arguing with me about getting layers in my hair. I spent the entire time telling her I do not like my hair with layers. I had them before and hated drying them and could never get them right. I preferred a straight cut with angles. She would not stop. When she wasn't trying to push me into getting layers, she was teaching me how to brush and dry my hair. I am 33 years old. I know how to brush and dry my hair. I was very uncomfortable the entire haircut. Despite all of this, Heather gave me one of the best haircuts I have ever gotten. I just cannot sit through another one with her.
