After several "meh" and a few horrible haircuts in the city I came to Salon Bohemia at the recommendation of a friend. Karen did a great job with my hair, it's very fine/thin but curly. She identified my problem areas - heat damage, stretched curl pattern due to tight buns - and was able to show me some tips on how to get my bounce back. I was happy to see she didn't cut bluntly and gave me some shape. I'll definitely be back! I also loved the small space and the variety of clients. They really do all types of hair! read more

I am happy with the color treatment I got here; PM color treatments are low-impact, and the salon only charged for a touch-up. But honestly, this is the worst cut I got in a decade. I have the easiest hair cut ever--the bob (it's the first cut hairdressers learn). But it's not straight and looks choppy. I know they'd try to fix it if I went back, but then it would be even shorter, and even more of a hack job. I won't say which hairdresser did this, b/c she was a nice lady w/a big family to feed. I came to this salon last minute on a week day evening. As I walked in, the whole place was "smoked up". It was condensation from a blow dryer one of the stylist was using. I waited about 10minutes and one of the stylist (can't remember her name anymore) just asked in a lackadaisical manner what I wanted. I answered: "simple trim of 3 inch". She cut fine but when she started to blow dry my hair, she was rough and hurting my scalp with the comb. She held the blow dryer at one spot far longer than is needed till my scalp burned and I yelped! In general, there was little care or concern and she just went about as if this is just another job. I do not believe she enjoys her work much. In the end, the "trim" and blow dry cost me $60. In reality, it was worth much less. read more

I got my haircut here into a tapered cut. I have thick african-american curly hair, and it was cut nicely, like I really love my haircut soooo much. The stylist was nice, and she was cool, I can't remember her name, but she was patient with me because I was so scared to cut my hair, and I haven't went to a salon in years, so I was being annoying asking a bunch of questions. They offered me tea, or water. Even the girl who washed my hair was nice, it was a good experience. I liked it alot. read more

I love Salon Bohemia, all the stylists are really nice. I have very curly hair and they always do a good job, and thanks to their suggestions my hair isn't nearly as frizzy and dry as it used to be. I've had Alisha (I am not positive on the spelling of that), Raquel, and Wendy (the owner) cut my hair and they all do a great job. I only wish they were open slightly later (hard to get back from work in manhattan on weeknights), and I suppose it could be cheaper. I mean, don't get me wrong, no $100 trims here. A cut is usually in the $40-60 range, then add tip (you can pay for cut with your card, but bring cash for tip). read more

I went here for a quick color touch-up and was pleased with the price and the flexibility of the staff. I called earlier in the day and they could fit me in by 5:30-- which was good because this was kind of a hair 911 for me! While I was there, to my pleasant surprise my stylist also said she could do waxing, and I go my eyebrows waxed to boot! Unfortunately, the job cost $13 and my stylist did it slowly and painfully (although very attractively)... I would not come here again for a wax, but my color touch-up only set me back $70, which I think is pretty reasonable. I just moved to the area, though, so I'm not sure what the going rate around town is. All and all, though, I would recommend this salon to others. read more

It's always hard to find someone to cut my hair well but Karen did a really great job. She put in some nice layers to keep the curls bouncy and cut some side swept bangs which I had wanted. I love this place. I have been going since I was 11 years old and I have extremely curly hair so it is very difficult for me to find a good stylist. I used to go to ouidad but it gets extremely expensive after awhile. Aisha is the only person allowed to touch my hair. I got my haircut elsewhere for the first time last year and she had to fix it. She is a curl genius. Aisha knows what she is doing I can't say anything about her job with blowouts and things like that because I strictly have her cut my hair but if you want someone who knows how to cut hair go to Aisha even if you just watch her cut hair she looks like she is a surgeon she knows about curls all about them. I have a family of 6 people with Afros and we all see her and I do what she does with my hair to style it everyday and it looks fabulous. read more

And then proceeded to give me a great curly haircut. Then came last minute to Karen (didn't know anything about her either) for highlights, and they came out perfectly--and I am usually really dissatisfied with the coloring I get. A bit pricey for Brooklyn, but reasonable compared to Manhattan and for the quality. They also spend less time pushing their products which was my only annoyance in the past. My hair is a total disaster! It had grown out quite a bit because I hadn't had time to cut it, and when I showed up, I admittedly said, "as long as I can pull it back into a ponytail, you can cut it as short as you want." HOWEVER. The woman doesn't seem to be able to follow directions. For one thing, she gave me side bangs. You know, the kind that you can't pull back into a ponytail? It looks atrocious. More importantly, there are small wisps of hair at the back of my neck that are a good inch or more shorter than the rest of the haircut (except maybe the side bangs.) And this isn't some kind of complicated layered number: most of the rest of the 'do is more or less the same length. Oh yeah: it cost more than $70! read more

I had my hair done my Kiki! Seems knowledgeable in hair in general. I have natural hair. It's not too difficult. I liked her! Everyone was nice, and I've booked to go back. The salon seems to cater to a handful of different types of hair. I saw someone getting a relaxer, highlights, myself and just the general trim. It was affordable too! I highly recommend Kiki, but if you were interested in someone else, I feel that anyone would do a good job. read more

First of all, I must say that I'm a loyal and longtime customer. Since 2008. I came to this place through a word of mouth recommendation. Pros: - I love that they cater to a multi-ethnic clientele: (I have mixed curly hair, and it's hard for me to find someone who will know how to cut my hair without charging me a fortune or trying to straighten every strand. This is the place.) - I am loyal to my hairdresser and she always leaves me with a good professional cut. I even travel from another borough since I moved a few years ago. - The price is right: (Always fair and the additional treatments that they recommend are always on point.) Cons: - The place needs to be cleaned more thoroughly: (When you're sitting in the chair you notice everything, and it would do the salon well to remember that. I see hair on stools and stations and lots left over from the previous clients; I see cakes of dust on the ceiling fans and other high places. It just feels icky and it would take a once a week cleaning service to fix this thing if the staff is not up to it.) - The staff could be a little more professional: (I like the laid back atmosphere, but sometimes the conversation is loose in front of clients to the point that I think they forget we're there. We hear everything. It would be great to be a little more catered to in general - offer me water, sell me on new products, just include us more in conversation, etc.) All in all, I love this place, and I like to recommend it, especially to my mixed friends; however, I've found myself hesitating lately or giving a disclaimer about the atmosphere and professionalism. It feels like it's declined a bit over the past few years. If this review was based solely on the hairstylists and cuts, I would give this place a 5, but atmosphere is also a part of my experience and this is where the place could use some help. BEWARE, CURLY GIRLS! I'm upset because I really enjoyed this salon, it is clean and the staff is very friendly, for the most part. I've gone here 3 times- first 2 for a blowout and the third for a cut. I have very kinky, curly hair and I was surprised on how well Karen blew it out, in such a short amount of time! However, the third time I came, for a trim, Karen butchered my curls. I asked for a simple trim, and instead I left the salon with layers so short that I now have a mullet. I'm thankful that I paid under 70$ but I would not risk getting a cut here. read more

My African-American ladies, when they say they do all hair types they mean it! I know there's always a fear when getting our hair done at a salon that is not predominately A-A but that doesn't need to happen here. After having my hair in a weave for 3 months (yikes!), I made an appointment here for a relaxer with Aisha. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the receptionist and then Aisha with all smiles. I had a HUGE fro going on and Aisha assured me that all would be fine. An assistant came over (who was very nice but I forget her name) and she sectioned and based this mane with no problem and was very conversational. Aisha then applied the relaxer and left the very root for last, which is great when you have a sensitive scalp and you don't want to feel the intensity of the burn for the entire duration. I was then washed with a plethora of hydrating shampoos and conditioners including a mint wash to help thoroughly cleanse my scalp. I was then blow dried (not sitting aimlessly under the drier for hours) and trimmed. KEY WORD TRIMMED!! I know sometimes hair dressers get scissor happy and you end up with half your hair on the ground and tears in your eyes. I was then flat ironed out and sent on my merry way in about 2 hours time...on a SATURDAY! My hair was fabulous and healthy. As a picky person and someone who is new to NY, I was very happy and will definitely return. read more

Ok took me long enough! I love this place, I was in search of a new salon after the fiasco with my old salon. So I found myself on a rainy Sunday morning in Park Slope at Salon Bohemia. When I walked in I was greeted right away, I told them what I would like done, showed them the disaster that was my hair and Melody got to work. The outcome was wonderful. I got my hair flat ironed straight. She asked me questions about how I normally wear my hair (curly), the reason for the style. She also didn't judge based on my at home cutting (a total disaster) and somehow managed to cut into a style, it still needs to grow out from my novice work but I trust Melody to do it. She answered all of my questions especially about color which I am itching to do, didn't try to push me into a color and sincerely advised that because my hair was so dark that it may be in my best interest to do a gloss if I didn't want to bleach and then color my hair. Also she answered questions about the products they had but didn't try to sell me anything. My hair which is normally coarse and super thick felt like silk running through my hands. I am going back to my new salon. Also the price is definitely right especially for NYC and Park Slope. read more

Last haircut I had here was medium expensive, but super disapointing. Their website talks all about how they're pros at dealing with multi-racial hair and curly hair, but in the end I got someone who had no idea what to do with my super curly yet fine hair, and ended up making my head look like a giant mushroom. I have gone several times and my haircut and color were fine but not really what I wanted. The prices are decent and they have promotions. The stylist I went to did not keep notes on my color and it is annoying to have to explain what you want each time and having it still be off. The cleanliness is a factor too. The floor is not cleaned in between cuts and there is no where to put your bag without getting hair all over it. I'd rather spend a little more and have a more professional experience. read more

I went here for a relaxer, rinse (PM Shine as they call it), and trim. Kiki did my hair and she did a great job! I was impressed with how quickly the stylists worked. No customer that I saw come in (including myself) waited more than 5 minutes before someone got them in a chair. I came 15 minutes early and I was in her chair before my appointment time and within 5 minutes of my arrival. (She was in the process of giving someone cornrows on natural hair.) At all times while I was there hands were in my head or I was under the dryer. The second the dryer was done, someone was tending to me. Very efficient, very clean, very professional and I'd definitely go back. I must say, I think they are very expensive. For my services, I paid $188 not including tip (to stylist and hair washer). This service at my neighborhood place would've cost me $70. If it's within your budget, I'd definitely recommend stopping by! read more

I was waffling between two and three stars, but I'm going with two. After I spent hours getting my hair washed, blow dried, and flat ironed earlier today, it's already puffed up to the point that it was a complete waste of time and money. I've had stylists in the past be able to guard my hair from the humidity in the middle of summer, so I'm really disappointed that my stylist at Salon Bohemia didn't use the correct products/technique to make sure I was getting what I wanted (and now I'll need to flat iron it again on my own). read more

If it were possible to give zero stars then this place absolutely desreves it. Customer service is fine but let's face it, you go to a salon because of their actual cutting skills. Its so wrong to advertise that you are professionals with multi racial hair. I'm asian and our hair is pretty simple to work with but apparently it seems like they have no idea what they are doing. I had Karen over this past weekend and she gave me a haircut that was very stereotypical of asian movies... from the 20's. it looked like she put a bowl over my head and cut around the edges, which frankly she should have just done considering the ends might have resulted in a straight even cut. Bangs came out completely uneven and short. I had asked for side sweep bangs and what she cut was short and extremely uneven. Now imagine the hair covering your forehead. Starting from the left 1/3rd it is up to my eyebrows, the middle 1/3rd above my nose bridge is short, then the right third is up to the height of your eyebrows. I had asked her to fix it because it looked odd and she tells me that "its side sweep bangs, it's supposed to be like that." wtf? I'm sorry but what website did you print your license from? very unlikely that she was educated AT ALL in cutting. Now as for the rest of the hair. This is Karen's method of cutting. Let me grab all your hair into a low pony tail and CHOP. Again I ask where were you educated? Then she just trimmed all around to "fix and align" the ends. I left miserable with teeth like bangs and had to get it fixed the next day. I would not allow myself to be seen another day with that wreck she did. And to charge $60 dollars for something a 10yr old can do is just unbelieveable. I never write reviews but I had to sign up just so that I can WARN people to not go and throw good money away on a dump. read more
