I have only ever had 2 other hairdressers I have loved. Diane was AMAZING. She was very concerned about not damaging my hair during the bleaching process and was very sweet. As soon as she washed out the bleach I could tell the platinum was going to come out perfect which never happens. She was also amazing with her cutting skills. She had taken a before and after (I know I was really due for a cut) and I was shocked about just how badly it was needed. Highly recommend her and was very impressed in general. I had to go back home and work and left her in their care but trusted fully and from past experiences, I knew she would be taken care of. My daughter ended up seeing Cristi, and she had such a great experience. She was at the salon for about six hours, and I was worried it was going to be too long, but she had a blast. She watched shows and played games on her iPad, she was offered snacks, and even took a nap as she got her hair washed. Before she knew it, we had returned to pick her up and it was time for the big reveal. They hadn't let her see it until we arrived and she is in love with it. It turned out beautiful, and seeing how happy she was meant everything to me. When I was 16, I used box dye from the store or "Sun in" so being able to give her this experience was really special for me. With my sister and niece visiting from out of town, I recommended this salon based on the reviews and friendliness of the owner, Joan (sp?). (The signage is spelled differently than on Yelp.) There's usually a wait on weekends too so it seemed an easy recommendation. Together we all stopped by the salon and asked Joan for an appointment with her next day for my niece. When my sister arrived with my niece, Joan was still busy with another client, so referred them to Sam. Based on all the reviews here and our family's experience having gone to many, many Chinese owned salons, female haircuts include a wash unless otherwise requested in the $20 price. Instead, for $25, my niece received a few sprays from a spray bottle (my sister was never given an option and would have happily paid more) and a cut way too short, despite being shown a photos and her mom twice confirming with Sam to make sure to give her long bangs mid-nose like the photo. He confirmed he knew how to do it and then immediately proceeded to make his very first cut above her eyebrows! The expression of horror on her face was painfully obvious and it was too late to do anything about it. There's no fixing bangs cut too short. For the rest of the cut, my niece tried to keep from bursting into tears while my sister's heart fell into a million pieces. They paid and left and as soon as possible and once inside my door, my niece couldn't stop crying. My heart broke too as they don't have a Chinese salon close to their home and entrusted me to help them make a decision. Living in the area, I love giving them the opportunity to explore Chinatown and our community here whenever they visit. I even told my niece she'd get to experience a great hair wash and head massage, typical for Chinese salons, and they came highly recommended. I now deeply regret the recommendation. I had seen the photos my niece picked out for herself earlier, and the long bangs should have been no problem even for an inexperienced stylist. I went to the salon with my wife and informed Joan of what happened and disappointment as I had requested an appointment with her and my sister confirmed and reconfirmed with the photo for long bangs. My niece was still crying when I left and still upset when I returned. I would have been too. Joan sincerely apologized and said the next appointment would be better. But unfortunately, after this experience and with the many other salons within a few blocks, we won't be back. I truly wanted to give my niece a good first hair salon experience. I gave 3 stars as the overall cut was good and owner is nice and apologized, but it's not at all what she wanted and no wash. My niece rates 1 star.

I can't even bring myself to post photos of the haircut because that's how humiliating it is. To make matters worse, I was encouraged to purchase a hair product to "keep my hair shiny." Before buying it, I noticed the bottle appeared to be cracked. When I pointed it out and said I didn't want it, both Melissa and the owner insisted it was just the label and that the bottle wasn't actually cracked. When my fiancé picked me up, he examined it, ran his fingernail over it, and confirmed it was in fact cracked all the way around. I got tired of cutting my own hair, so I decided to get my hair cut by him again in August this year. The hair consultation was brief - when I requested a straight bob, he suggested a-line. I repeated that I wanted a straight bob. He asked if I flat iron my hair - I told him no. He looked surprised and repeated my answer in the form of a question "you don't use a flat iron?" I confirmed this. After I got my straight bob cut that I requested, the circumference of my ponytail became less than 1 inch, the top layer of my hair was longest, the ends of my hair underneath were uneven with the middle layers being the shortest (Danny explained that this due to the concave of my head, which is untrue because I know from cutting my own hair that with proper layering that the ends should be blended and gradually appear shorter at the top layer. Danny also explained that the reason for his hair cutting technique was to help my hair lay flat more easily when being flat ironed...even though he was made aware beforehand that I do not use a flat iron). -He first cut my hair to my desired bob length using his professional hair shears. -Then he cut through the bottom layer of my hair with a razor using 3 quick angled strokes. -Then he proceeded to cut my hair layer by layer ONLY using the toothed scissors at all kinds of angles repeatedly (I was unsure if this was his usual technique, as I felt that he did not do that when he cut my hair years ago...if I remembered correctly). 3 stars because Danny is very courteous, he shampooed before and styled my hair after the now $60 haircut, he was nice enough to have me come back the next day and trim my ends to make them less uneven without paying extra, and he advised me that I should have asked for a blunt bob if I did not want him to use the toothed scissors. The haircut alone is 1 star - he cut my hair based on the assumption that I style my hair a certain way despite being made aware beforehand that I do not, my ends broke off constantly for about a week straight due to the damage from being mostly cut with toothed scissors, the layers underneath the top layer remain uneven and my hair looks worse when I tie it back in a ponytail. So I continue to leave my hair down with its hollowed out appearance underneath where the back of my neck can be seen through my hair. 3 months after the haircut, my ponytail circumference is now about 2 inches. So I am likely going to have to wait at least another 3 months for majority of the unevenness to have grown out so I can get the ends cut evenly.
