I got the package to get rid of some hyper pigmentation and sadly I don't think much changed. However, when I got there I asked Elizabeth about it but she let me know her machine doesn't do that so I'm a little bummed but it's okay! I've been going to Salon Elizabeth for over 15 years. I am a fan. Elizabeth and Yelena cater to my needs and make reasonable recommendations that I've never been disappointed in. Today I decided to try their new machine that uses IPL (intense pulsed light) technology. I'd heard good things about it, but never thought it might be for me. I've got to say after having tried it, it IS for me. I went in with Yelena for my usual eye brow wax and eye lash tint along with a facial. (She does an excellent job.) With her darling Russian accent she explained quite clearly how IPL works. I opted to have two settings, one for rejuvenation and the other for enhancing pigmentation I think it was called... basically working on getting rid of some brown (age) spots that are annoying and something I've been thinking I'll just live with. Not anymore!! Ideally, they recommend 6-8 treatments I think, but just one was enough to show improvement in my overall skin tone. I really liked the way my skin felt and looked. I'm not exactly sure how it works scientifically... but from everything I've read, it's pretty darn safe (way better than going under the knife), and... it didn't hurt. Here's how it worked... first Yelena put a type of cream on my face to act as a buffer between the applicator and my face. Then there's a paddle type thingie she placed on my face segment by segment while pulses of light are "zapped" onto each segment until my entire face and neck are "zapped". My eyes were covered but I could see the light flashing through. It's bright, but no biggie. The applicator thingie was slightly warm with each pulse, but never hot. Honestly, now that I know what it's like, I could easily doze off during this treatment. And the best thing was that it took only about 10-15 minutes. I'm including a photo of the IPL machine... pretty boring looking really, but it gets the job done. I'm definitely going back for more. read more

Contemplated Groupon, called the Salon for some clarification, and ended up going to this place twice since October. My next visit is in January. Yelena is a like a lost old soul-sister, and I just freakin love her! Just hit my mid forties this October and decided to start paying attention to agespots, sun spots, hyperpigmentations, and other ghoulish curses that start exploding on your face once you hit the fourth decade of your life. After just one treatment, my husband (who normally would not notice if I grew one additional head) actually noticed my glowing skin. Two treatments and no more concealers, just moisturizer sunscreen and lipstick and I can step out the door! Facials seems like such an extravagant expense to some people. To me, I think it's a must, particularly when you've moved on past your 20's back when you could drink a bunch of booze, smoke, sit in the sun and not slap on any moisturizer for 6 months and still probably look pretty good. Now that I'm older I feel like my skin is drying up like a prune no matter how much I moisturize so skincare to me is essential. I've been a customer at Salon Elizabeth for the last couple of years now, maybe longer who knows. I started out by trying some fancy pants spa in Palo Alto which charged me a lot of money and then basically slapped some cream on my face and left the room for half an hour and then slapped some more stuff on and sent me on my way. I don't care really how 'fancy' the spa is as much as I care about the services I'm getting. I'm just going to lay there with my eyes closed the whole time anyways. Yelena has been doing my facials since I started there and they're fantastic. She does all the usual skin cleansing, extractions, masks and the additional collagen mask treatment. She also adds in a brief hand and foot rub and spends a considerable amount of time doing a shoulder and face rub. That REALLY adds to the experience in my opinion. I really feel like I get my money's worth every time. I've also had the body glow done here which is basically an all over body scrub and moisturizing. My skin looks fantastic after this is done. It's probably something you could do yourself since it's just an intense scrubbing but it's nice to treat yourself sometimes. I had a pedicure done here once. Myle (I think she's the only one who does them but I'm not 100% sure) does perfect pedicures. I hear she does nice manicures too but she doesn't do things like acrylic. She just does basic manicures. I wouldn't recommend doing regular pedicures here though if you're on a budget, it's pretty pricey. I think I paid $50 with tip the time I got it done. The spa itself is a bit on the smaller side and probably less flashy then a big Palo Alto day spa but the ambiance is nice even if the rooms are smaller. They make it classy and comfortable. I buy all my skincare products here now too. I used to buy Clarins primarily but I like the Russian line of moisturizers they have and while they may be pricey I feel like I'm getting more of my money's worth then I did with other brands. My boyfriend even goes here now for his facials on a regular basis! I'm sure he's super excited all of Yelp knows this now but his skin looks great so who cares. :) Yes guys don't get facials (or a lot don't), but they should! His only complaint is how long his service takes. Mine seem to be okay time-wise though. Overall if you want great skincare for a reasonable price with people that are very personable and lots of extras check this place out. read more

I didn't particularly appreciate being told that my good skin was due to genetics, rather than my degree in Biochemistry (which I didn't mention to her), ability to read product labels, and 30 years of consistent use of sunscreen. I looked at the labels of the brands she selling and noticed the acids weren't as good as what I currently use. I can't really tell if the IPL did anything, so either my skin is unusually good or it wasn't worth the money. I'm going to stick with my $40/year skin care regime. read more

She really tries to understand client needs and gives best recommendations when it comes to services! I did a couple of treatments at the salon: 1. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this place. I was looking for affordable IPL treatments for brown spots. This is the place. Their prices are reasonable, but more importantly, they're focused on giving you what you need. My last IPL was at a fancy dermatologist office where they were stingy with their machine despite the high cost of that appointment. Like night and day, my treatment with Yelena was wonderful. She's so warm, caring and attentive. Looking at my complexion, she noticed a white head and took care of it. Then she used the machine on 4 different settings for to rejuvenation, general pigment improvement, revisiting specific brown spots, and then capillaries. I have been going to Yelena at Salon Elizabeth for the Intense pulsed light technology (IPL) treatment. Before I started going, I had bad acne which would not go away, regardless of the product I used. Even after a few weeks of IPL treatment, my skin was already getting better and my acne was starting to disappear. After six sessions of full treatment, the results turned out to be great and flawless, and my skin was smooth and entirely clear of any forms of acne. I have found that this is the most effective way to treat acne. I would highly recommend the IPL treatment for anyone who has severe acne to any trace of pimples, and wants to look completely better. read more

I got introduced to this place via groupon. I got IPL done with Yelena. She is wonderful person. Loving, warm and motherly. I met her first time and she was like ur eyebrows are wrong let me fix it no charge. I said ok and she changed the whole thing( amazing) My IPL treatment, I was very skeptical because I got chemical peel done at other salon earlier and it ruined my face with discoloration patches. I was scared of getting the treatment done but Yelena said as this was my first IPL treatment ever, she will do mild IPL and let me see the results. I am still on my week one post treatment and o absolutely love it. Discoloration is lighter and skin is super soft and much even tone. I have already booked my second appointment. Yelena is such a sweet, patient and positive lady - I love her!!! I had two IPL sessions with her: 1) No pain at all! If you've used Tria hair removal laser at home before, it sort of feels like that except it's not laser and it's for your face hahahaha 2) ....ONE caveat, the procedure really hurts when the light zaps your hair (eyebrow or hairline), so be sure to tell Yelena to avoid those areas! 3) Results-wise, it didn't work miracles and I didn't notice big changes, but I think my skintone was more even and post-acne pigmentation was slightly reduced... or maybe it's the lighting :-/ either way, I heard you need to get multiple IPL sessions done every 10 days or so to really reap noticeable results :-) but I was happy regardless! PS: the space is bright and spacious :-) and the treatment room has a navy starry night ceiling - so whimsical I LOVE IT! read more

I absolutely adore this place, and Elizabeth! I've seen Elizabeth for IPL quite a few different times and anytime I even have a pimple I can go in there and they will extract and zap it away for me. Elizabeth and Yelena will make time even considering their busy schedule and make me feel that my skin is important to them. A GroupOn for IPL brought me in but, what I appreciated about Salon Elizabeth is the owner's facial and products. Apparently IPL is not a regulated term and can mean many things. I knew this in advance but, did not yet know how to distinguish which treatments called IPL work to lighten sun damage spots & which do not. After speaking w multiple IPL clients, IPL technicians and a doctor who offers it, I learned that the sun damaged spots should scab up within a week and push out of the skin. None of this happened with my treatment for IPL at Salon Elizabeth yet, she was convinced it was working while she was working on me and she was happy to tell me she could see my spots were lighter. I could perceive no difference at all. Since then I have tried two treatments with the aforementioned doctor who owns a 100k new laser machine for IPL & laser hair removal. She used setting 18 which is the highest for where I am on the Fitzpatrick scale, I think. Still no results two weeks later. No scabbing. It's possible that IPL does not work on everyone's skin & I am one of those people. The owner at Salon Elizabeth graciously converted my GroupOn to a facial which brightened my skin. Primarily, I come here for eyelash tinting, a scary experience for someone who has never gone through with it before. Hi- I usually don't review much. But I thgt I should for people considering IPL. IPL did NOT do anything to my skin. It was like someone flashed a light on my skin and charged me $160 and said that that I would see major results in a couple of months. I feel there was ABSOLUTELY NO improvement. I've been going to Salon Elizabeth for several years and have enjoyed my every visit there. The place is very well kept - very stylish and well maintained. They offer manicure/pedicure and massage in addition to facials. They also sell skincare products. I've been getting my facials from Yelena who is quite amazing. I always feel welcome, pampered, and well taken care of. She has over 25 years of experience in this business and knows what she is doing! In addition to facial, I also get a special wrinkle treatment using a state-of-the art European machine. It makes my face look years younger! The entire session takes over an hour, and it's something I look forward to after a stressful day at work. I am in my late 40's so feel that it's a must to take care of my skin regularly. It's "me" time that I truly enjoy every month. My son has also been a regular client for the last several years. He is a teenager, and breakouts are common. My mother has been getting IPL treatments and her sun spots from tanning when she was younger have disappeared. I recently came here for my first IPL treatment and although I don't have sun spots (yet) the IPL machine noticeably reduced the size of my pores and reduced redness on my face.
