I brought my bff and she gave her an amazing cut with a very cool hot pink streak, and I referred my bf too who received the best haircut he's had in years. Only caveat- she's meticulous, and by that I mean you will be at the salon for a few hours (for color and cut). She's super nice, so just make sure to plan that amount of time into your day. In 2009, I read a couple of good reviews on this salon. My hair was below my waist, and I wanted to cut it to above my neck. I called and the owner asked me if it's okay for Michelle to cut my hair. I guess she did not have that many reviews back then, but I said "sure". I forgot to bring a picture, but she worked with me to achieve the exact hairstyle I wanted. I wanted it plain and simple without any bang or layer (I was weird like that), and she made 100% sure that that's what I want. English is not her first language, but she still tried very hard to ensure our communication goes right. I was not sad about cutting that much hair, but she kept on comforting me. I guess this could be a drastic experience to some girls. I told her I am donating it so she braided my hair before cutting, and then stored it in a bag. Two years later, I desperately needed a haircut, and stumbled upon this salon on Yelp again. I called and Michelle said I can come in right away. I did not realize that's the same lady who cut my hair in '09. After showing her a picture and listening to her professional opinion, we decided to go with layers and a side bang. Washed, layered, dried.. Michelle, "still so thick!" layered, layered more.. She literally spend 90 minutes on cutting my hair when another salon will only take 30 minutes for the style! I do have a lot of hair but her attention to details and eagerness for perfection really wowed me. Salon Finesse is not fancy, but I won't go anywhere else. I went to 2 high-end salons before, and they both disappointed me, so I never thought I will have a go-to stylist. At one of the high-end salons, the stylist told me she could not give me a side bang because it won't stay. Look at what Michelle gave me! My hair is straight out of a Japanese magazine without much styling effort on my part! I can honestly say I love my hair and that I found my go-to stylist. read more

So, I went to Finesse based on all the great Yelp reviews. Had finally managed to grow out a really, really bad hair cut (beware of Allan Salon on Steven's Creek) and wanted to do something fun with my hair. Specially coz I was starting a new job the following week. I made an appointment with Michelle (Grace wasn't available and I went with Michelle b/c some reviewers said nice things about her, as well). I told her I wanted to perm my hair and that I hadn't cut my hair in a long time. I got there well in time. Nice place, Grace & Michelle were both with customers - both very nice & friendly. When it was my turn, Michelle examined my hair, and said that since I hadn't cut it in a long time (as I had already mentioned to her on the phone), she would need to cut my hair to style it. That was just fine with me - I would've been surprised if she hadn't suggested it herself. But she then proceeded to tell me that b/c she had assumed that I would only need a perm, she had scheduled another client for not too long later. So, she said, she would FIRST perm my hair b/c she wanted my hair up in rollers before her other client came and AFTER the perm was done - she would cut & style my hair. I should have stopped and walked out right there. Only Grace (who is the owner, btw) was right there and she told Michelle to cut my hair first and then perm it. This was exactly what I had read when I had researched perms before going - that you should always cut the hair first and THEN perm because it's not easy to cut permed hair well. So, Michelle then gave me a super-fast hair cut - which I will readily admit looked great even while my hair was wet. By this time, her other client had arrived - and so Michelle, feeling greatly pressured - proceeded to roll up my hair at the speed of light. I was extremely nervous about how my hair would turn out, but I was stupid and didn't say anything. While we had still been consulting about which perm (normal vs. Digital - and i went with the latter, btw) - Grace specifically said in front of Michelle that with my lank hair, they would build the curls starting at the root so that I could get volume up top. Well, to cut a long story super short - Michelle finished up my perm. Blow dried my hair and styled it - and it looked GREAT. Of course, I was wondering how it would look when it wasn't salon styled any more. She said it would take about a week for it to 'settle in.' It's been almost 3 weeks now, I can confidently say that this was the most expensive and worst perm I have ever gotten. I paid $205 (incl. a $10 tip, stupid me) in cold cash and half the length of my hair doesn't even look permed. The curls start halfway down - and so the result exactly the opposite of what Grace & Michelle had said it would be. It's lanky on top and has volume in the bottom. I will not be going back to Salon Finesse and I wouldn't recommend it for a perm with Michelle any way. She did a good job with my cut, they were lovely women both of them - but it was a complete waste of a LOT of money for me. read more

So I made an appointment with David for a haircut and boy did I leave happy. I have long hair and when you go to an Asian salon and tell them you want 1 inch off they chop off about 5 inches like it ain't nothing. David on the other hand not only showed me how short he would cut it but asked me if that length is ok before he cut my hair. I felt as though I was getting the super star treatment too. When he was washing my hair he threw in a head massage. After a long day dealing with bs at work, a head massage goes a long way. Lol. I wanted long layers and he did an excellent job. It's so hard finding a stylist who listens to your needs. He is also super friendly and hot. No lie he must work out like 5 days a week. Hahah. I Def will come back to him when I feel like dying my hair blonde. So ladies ask for David because you will leave the salon feeling like a bag of money. read more

When I first arrived in the Bay, they had Onsite Haircuts show up once a week and I'd take advantage of that. At first, it was quite convenient despite the fact that it wasn't the best haircut I've had. However, as I got ramped up at work, I had less and less opportunity to find time to get my hair cut on the one day a week they come, so I ended up having to find a place on the weekend. The place I found was Salon Finesse and I go to Michelle. I like her because not only is my haircut consistently good, but she's good at sensing when I want to chat while I'm getting my hair cut and other times when I just want to relax and stare off into space. I had a cut and color with Grace last week. My hair is a few inches past my shoulders, and it was $45 for the cut and $85 for the color. I think Grace is skilled, but the experience was not overly friendly. While she did my hair she watched a product video, explaining that she always has to learn new things. I think keeping on top of the latest products is great, but not when you have a client in your chair, and not for the prices I'm paying. read more

got my haircut with grace today. i have to say that for $50, i had moderately high expectations. when she started using her shears as a razor to thin out my hair, i had a feeling this wouldnt turn out so well. but i thought, 'hey, i'm already here, might as well power through it, wont be too bad. ' everything was great after she styled it, but that just hid the flaws. after a shower and letting my hair air dry, i can feel the split ends as i run my fingers through what was supposed to be freshly-cut, smooth hair. not to mention the layers that she put in are choppy and messy. overall, not the worst haircut and she did do what i asked, which was thinning out my hair. but it wasnt worth the $50. read more

Grace is the most knowledgeable and skilled colorist I have ever worked with. She was able to turn my salt and pepper hair into a very natural-looking blond, with gorgeous highlights and low lights. No one else has been able to do this. She also fixed a bad haircut that I got somewhere else. She works with me and really listens to what I want. This review is for Michelle. I was in desperate need for a haircut one Friday. I found out about this Salon through a friend, called them the same morning and scheduled an appointment. I had specific instructions regarding the length of my hair as I did not want to get more than an inch of it. At the same time, I did want it to look like I had gotten a new hair cut. Regardless, Michelle worked through my list of requests with finesse :) She worked her way through the 6 months of over grown hair and made sure everything was as it should be. I found her to be extremely thorough as she kept checking it for any misses. At the end, I came out looking great. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a great haircut but doesn't want to pay a bomb for it. One star cut is for the decor. I have been getting my haircut from Grace for about 3-4 years now, even before she and her brother opened Salon Finesse. Back then, I was searching for a good stylist after countless times of other stylists messing up my hair. When I found Grace and Edward, they were working at another salon, along with other stylists. I signed my name up and got Edward. He cut my hair nicely but I wanted to see if I could get somebody even better. The next time I went I got Grace and she gave me the best haircut I've ever had in my life. 4 years later, I'm still getting my haircut from her. I moved to San Francisco but I still make the drive down to Mountain View because it's worth it. Grace is extremely friendly, fun to talk to, and very accomodating. She'll fit you in even if it means she has to stay later or come in very early. She is very professional and takes real good care of you. One time, she washed my hair before the haircut, aftewards, and after she styled it I asked her if she could cut it a little shorter. She actually did, washed my hair again (for the 3rd time!) and styled it again. Another thing I really appreciate about Grace is that she invests in her craft by going to conferences and taking workshops where she gets the latest products, equipment, and learns the latest techniques. A lot of stylists are stuck in their old comfortable ways and refuse to learn new things. Her passion for her craft and for her customers shows in her work. My hair is thick and stiff and hard to style in the way I want. Grace once told me that my hair is one of the hardest to cut out of all her customers. Still, she does an excellent job each time. Finally, her price is reasonable. She charges me $24 which is the male haircut rate. Go to Grace. You won't regret it. read more

DON't EVEN PERM YOUR HAIR HERE!! I went to the perm my hair at this Salon the day after Veteran Day and now it's all gone. My hair became straight again even with all the moose and gel. I found this place on Yelp. After reading all the reviews, I chose to have my hair perm here! Since there was no parking and the perming process took 3-4 hours long. I had to move my car during the process since all the Mountain View parking is 2 hours long! Think about how ridiculous you would feel to run around to your car with the roll and other stuffs on your head... NOT fun at all!!! Michelle recommended to me to cut and style my hair before the perming process which I went for it BUT ended up with disappointment. She only trim like 1 cm or less and charged me $45 for it! Then during the time that she did my hair, she scheduled another man for hair cut. I had to wait for 45 min until she's done with that man so that she can continue perming my hair (45 min longer than the wait time that i should wait for the perming process). From what i know, salon is a type of business that sell SERVICE but the service here is bad! If you have already scheduled someone, then try NOT to pencil another person down! That's not right. A week after my perm, all the curl started to go away but I can still kept some of them with moose and gel. But those moose and gel couldn't keep my curl long enough to pass one month. Since Thanksgiving weekend, my curl were nowhere to be found! My hair now looks like a mess. It looks like i have my hair perm for over a year and my hair already grew out of the curl. None of my friends now can tell that i had my hair perm just less than a month ago! So, as i say earlier and i'll say it again. DON"T EVER PERM YOUR HAIR HERE. IT DOES NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY!!!!! read more

I just moved to Mountain View from Virginia. I regularly get my hair dyed/highlighted and cut. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find a hair dresser that was comparable to the one I had in Virginia. At Salon Finesse I found Grace. She matched the hair dye color I already had perfectly when I went for a root touch-up. Also she does an excellent job with the highlights and styling. The hair cut I got from her was exactly what I wanted and she cut it in such a way that it grew out nicely as well. In terms of price, I'd say it was about average or slightly higher than average, but I am new in the area so I might not know what prices are like in this part of the world. I am certainly planning on going back to Grace for my hair needs. read more

I have fine hair so what i picture in my head doesn't usually translate to real life, but I came out with exactly what I wanted! Have gone here multiple times and always leave happy! Don't be confused - this is not a spa, this is a small hair salon. They get you in and get you out which is fine by me. Both Grace (the owner) and Michelle have cut and highlighted my hair and done a great job. They are extremely reasonably priced and don't cheat you - Grace made some color recommendations that saved me some money. I kind of like that this is a small place (two stylists only right now). I wanted to get a digital perm and found out through Yelp that Salon Finesse offers this service. I called them to make an appointment and I got one within two hours of calling. This is a 3.5 to 4hrs process and I was impressed that they could fit me in on a very short notice. Michelle did my hair and she is fantastic! She was very honest about what my style will look like and the result was exactly what I wanted: soft wavy hair that's not frizzy and super tight curls. The style looks very natural and after two months it's still holding out very nicely. I also went back to Michelle a few weeks ago to get more layers and again she fitted me in within 30min of making the appointment. I really enjoyed my experience and will go back again! read more

I've been getting trims and digital perms from Michelle the past 2 years. She's pleasant, professional, and does a good job. Giving only 3 stars for the following reasons: - They're don't say no to walk-ins, she will work on multiple customers at the same time. As a result, I end up waiting even though I have an appointment and then wait some more as she juggles her customers. - They hike up the price by a lot. My perms went from $175 to $225 to $250 in two years. At $250 I might as well go to one of those higher end Japanese salons in the city! Trims went from $45 (which was high to begin with) to $50. read more

I've been with Michelle for more than 2 years and followed her from Santa Clara because she does such a great job and offers very personalized service. I have a lot of hair with cowlicks in weird places and it's difficult to cut but Michelle does a great job every time. I've had my hair colored, permed (digital!) and cut by her - All her perm and coloring solutions are HIGH quality, and they always leave my hair feeling shiny and conditioned. I am a former client of Grace at Salon Finesse and I recommend her. Grace goes out of her way to accommodate her clients in their busy schedules, and she is a hard worker with lots of integrity. If something doesn't work and the client is less than happy with the results -- which doesn't happen too often -- she will immediately apologize and make amends. Grace is a "people person" who is receptive to feedback. Now that Grace has parted company with her former co-owner, the salon reflects Grace's high standard of cleanliness, order, decorum and good business values. I applaud Grace for the big step she took in going it alone and in hiring Michelle. They are transforming Salon Finesse so that it now more accurately fits its name. read more

Unfortunately, I am incapable of styling my own hair, so my hair never looks as good as when I leave the shop, but I still get complements on my hair for at least a week after I go.
